Hemm, I can understand why people might get a bit paranoid on the forum. Thing is with what went down with one of the trusted members of thread who wouldn't. Nobody is to be trusted. The reason why people keep on getting scammed is because of backdoor mentality....not wanting to do things for themselves looking for shortcuts.....

With the info on this thread you don't need a bloody agent. Keep on asking the same questions over and over again. All you need to do is spend some quality time on this thread and you will be well informed. So when a "friend" "brother" "cousin brother" "cousin sister" tell you to bring money and you will get job that will earn you millions YOU TELL THEM TO FO OR SHOVE THE LIES DOWN THEIR THROATS AND CHOKE.

monchouchou: True….but I was looking for the easy way to get the info.
Same here that's why I suggested you contact them and then pass the message across to us fellow forumites grin
TravelRe: QATAR And UAE General Visa Enquiries by frostmate: 10:29am On Aug 11, 2014
monchouchou: Thanks smiley Most of the sites only give information about the fees. They don't say anything about how it will be implemented and what it entails huh huh
You can call immigration directly on their hotline.

Sir, try Egypt airlines, maroc air, air France/klm, Lufthansa. You can compare prices on opodo website. But don't bother buying from there, return tickets cannot be modified from experience and also failed online transactions.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by frostmate: 12:49pm On Aug 08, 2014
You should be able to get laptaps under 600 from curries/pc world Argos. Also check Dell's UK website, you can get units under 600 that will suit your needs.
TravelRe: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by frostmate: 11:33am On Aug 08, 2014
On the return ticket issue, you might as well buy the return ticket if money is not an issue. Some return tickets can be even cheaper than one way. You will have to search and compare to see which is best for you. If you have plans to come back to Nigeria during the Easter or summer break, the return ticket will work out well for you.

However some of these one way tickets can be obtained at ridiculously very cheap prices depending on the time of the year.

I also concur about not being able to modify some return tickets. You'll have to verify if its the modifiable one when buying it.

Isn't that why there is a moon sighting committee. Are they not the ones supposed to decide. It's only Nigeria you see this happening.

justi4jesu: yes oh palmoil is expensive even yam.
Please which African shop will you recommend? Thank you
TravelRe: QATAR And UAE General Visa Enquiries by frostmate: 3:42pm On Jul 19, 2014
HAH: Food is very cheap in dubai if you are going to cook, transpotation is also cheap if you are using the metro and buses. What is expensive in dubai is accomodation even that one. Has some places that are ok like international city, and al nahda atleast you can see a studio apartment for AED35k that is like N1.5M.

Alternatively you can move to sharjah which is not more than 30 minutes drive where you can get a studio for as low as AED18k

Accomodation are not paid in full you can give post dated cheques may be quarterly

So if you are for instance staying average in Abuja moving to dubai will not be a problem

These suggestion are for average working class but as a hustler e no go easy o,
I very much agree. Accommodation in Dubai is very expensive compared to other things. Even in international city prices are going up. Some agents/landlords use expo 2020 as an excuse for the price
increase.

justi4jesu: When you are told food is cheap in Dubai means Food like KFC,WENDYS,MACDONALDS, rice, parata, biri yani, fruits etc

Food is not cheap when it comes to African food, whether you want to cook it by urself or not.

African food is expensive both to buy in the restaurant and to buy the raw ones.

List of items i bought from the African SHOP yesterday:

1. 1 small tuber of Yam that i can finish in 1 meal = 60 Dirhams i.e 2,700 naira

2. 1 litre of Palm oil = 75 Dirhams i.e 3,375 naira

3. 1 carton of Malta Guiness(12 cans) = 2,700 naira

4. Fresh Naija very hot pepper(like 15pieces) = 10 Dirhams i.e 450naira

5. stock fish and Dry fish dont even go there.

Now lets go to eating at the restaurant.

Biggie's African restaurant vegetable soup with pounded yam = 55 Dirhams i.e 2,475 naira

For other soup i dont know actually but just know it is more than 1,000 naira.

You can also get cheaper from other restaurant but the prices are slightly different.

It all boils down to African food is not cheap here except you will be eating rice everyday or biri yani or parata or fruits then you can call it cheap.

So hold all the money you can because nobody will be willing to buy food for you especially those guys at deira, they will be willing to drain you as you are fresh to the hussles.

Goodluck
Palm oil is expensive shocked

I sometimes see yam in Carrefour, but I nefa bother to find out how much.

eazylion01: Hello house,
Pls i am in a dilemma,i need advice from experience Nigerians here in UAE,i am working in a private company owned by arab, but they have been making me work like Hebrew slave,i started working since february,i told them i want to quit since beginning of this month but they told me to pay for their visa, which is 3k dirhams,my basic wage is 1200 Aed,no how i can get that kind of money, they even make us(labour)work 9hours and again today my supervisor is forcing us to come work tomorrow which everybody know to be off here in UAE,for 6 hours,i am tired of working like a slave with no freedom,i am thinking of going to ministry of labour, but i someone told me its rare before a man can win complain at the ministry of labour,i even meet with the general manager that i have an emergency in my home country,he told me i should find some people that will sign for me that i will come back to resume my duty and if i don't come back the people will pay for my visa, pls i am a bit naive about UAE labour law,i need help.
Pls help a depressed brother out of this mess.........Dubai is not a rosy place, forget all what u hear about dubai,if u don't have a foreign certificate, they treat most blacks like slave, most jobs are hard, intending Nigerians that want to leave nigeria to come here for greener pasture should have enough money or secure job before leaving..Just my 2cent. I am patiently waiting for advice from this forum.
Thanks in advance
I found this article through Google. Have a look at your contract what does it say about if you quit. Nobody can stop you quitting

I am on a limited two-year contract and I have worked for one year and eight months. I have now resigned, giving 30 days' notice, but my employer has not paid me for January and has told me that I have to stay for three months. What are my rights? SK, Abu Dhabi

Article 116 of UAE Labour Law states: "If the contract has been terminated on part of the employee … the employee becomes liable for compensating the employer against losses incurred by him in consequence of contract termination, provided that the amount of compensation, may not exceed half a month's pay for a period of three months or for the remaining period of contract whichever is shorter, unless the terms of the contract provide otherwise." In this situation, this means SK must forfeit pay equivalent to one and a half months on leaving, as he has broken the terms of his contract. He is not obliged to stay for three months.

justi4jesu: You can't come to Dubai on a tight budget.

Prepare well before coming because this is what turns people into Teco because they use their last penny to come down here and at the End of the day they get disappionted and join the lots in Deira.

Budget from $80 per night and above for hotels around Deira.(blue diamond hotel, deira park hotel) atleast i know this they usually have breakfast.

Deira is the best place for cheap items and also inside the Malls they usually have Sales for Cheap but quality stuffs.

Goodluck
They get misinformed by the GREEDY LOTS that if they come here they will get a well paying job of five figures within very few days..so they spend all their money coming here. Dat is the problem.

frankben: I've been longing to ask this question but it some how sounds silly.... I've heard that the weather in UAE isn't like that of europe... Is true that it doesn't snow there but i would like to know if the weather there is better than the weather here....

I hate intense sunlight

dehonourable, what was the weather like? Is it hotter than Nigeria?
It's like hot oven this time of the year. Current temperature is 37 degrees and it feels like 45 DEGREES. Weather in Nigeria I think is better. It can get cold in winter from October but nothing compared to winter in Europe. Winter here is like summer in Europe. You can have temperatures in the early 20s at night/early morning in December. But it can also be really hot in afternoons angry.

worry359: What about husslin round on streets looking for work, no funds to go in shops!
What about all the people working on construction jobs! No air con there! shocked
Then go home to sleeping with ten men in a room, how hot is that going to be?

We hear of 100 Nigerians in those conditions for every one in an air conditioned office?
This is the thing.....people need to be aware it's not all rosy in Dubai.

Anyone coming here need to know it's difficult getting job. Security job don't pay much. Construction job don't pay much and you will suffer under desert heat during summer. Temperature of 45 degrees is the norm in summer. October to March you still get temperatures in the mid 30s in afternoon. So imagine doing construction or security job in these conditions.

If you want to come and hustle for job come from October and if you are the private type be ready to come with enough money to rent studio apartment short term. I like all the points you mentioned in your post...let people know the reality in Dubai

and a few others. DONT RELY ON AGENTS. Read through this thread, people have been victims of scams by agents. DONT GIVE ANYONE MONEY FOR JOB OR VISA. And the truth is that its not easy getting a 'good job'. a lot depends if you have the necessary skills and experience. You can begin by applying online from where you are.
