IVF TIPS, CYCLE DO’S AND DON’TS

Always consult with your physician or RE before during and after an IVF cycle. IVF.ca accepts no responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of any material contained herein. BEFORE you start your IVF Cycle:



Eat a balanced diet.
Exercise in moderation.
Reach a healthy weight. A BMI over 30 could affect the outcome of your cycle in a negative way. An ideal BMI is between 20 and 25.
Speak to your RE about all the medications, vitamins and/or herbs you’re taking. This is very important and unusual interactions between prescribed drugs and others will be more easily identified.
Try to avoid caffeine or reduce it to 1-2 caffeinated beverages a day.
Do not smoke. 
Avoid alcohol or limit your alcohol intake to ½ a glass of red wine a day maximum.


DURING your IVF Cycle: 



Continue eating a well balanced diet.
Try to reduce caffeine to 1-2 caffeinated beverages a day.
Make sure you get adequate sleep: a minimum of 8 hours.
Continue light to moderate exercise.
Don’t smoke (male and female).
Don’t drink alcohol (male and female).
Don’t diet during treatment (losing 10% or more of your body weight can compromise the end result of your cycle). But do diet before if your BMI is greater than 30.
Always avoid fish high in mercury. 
Don’t take any medication, even over-the-counter drugs like allergy or cold medication, without talking to your RE about it. 
Extreme heat can reduce fertility in both partners. 
Drink lots of water, especially during stimulation.
In case of OHSS, drink lots of fluids. Drink Pedialyte instead of Gatorade. It’s just better for you! Drinking 3-5 liters of water per day can prevent OHSS is some cases.
Speak to your RE about baby aspirin. It’s a blood thinner that increases blood flow to the uterus to improve implantation.
Last but not least, try not to stress and be positive. High stress levels are known to reduce fertility in both men and women and compromise the outcome of an IVF cycle.


AFTER the Embryo Transfer:



Don’t eat food older than 12 hours. 
Don’t eat fish high in mercury.
Avoid excessive exercise. Don’t over do it.
Moderate walking is a great exercise during the 2 week wait. Helps to keep stress levels low.
Make sure you get adequate sleep.
Do not lift anything heavy. Some professionals believe anything over 2 pounds is too much; others, anything over 10 pounds. Bottom line: everything in moderation.
Drink lots of water to prevent constipation. Water is also crucial for cell development.
Extreme heat can reduce fertility in both partners.
Practice relaxation techniques like meditation, breathing exercises, acupuncture or yoga postures that improve fertility. What’s important here is to do what you enjoy and what helps you relax. Some research suggests that lowering stress levels may improve IVF success rates.
Think POSITIVE!!!!


Tips for Male Factor Infertility & IVF



Speak to your urologist about Serophene (Clomid). It helps improve sperm count and quality in 30% of males. Please keep in mind that this only applies in certain cases.
Vitamins and supplements which may improve male fertility: (note: speak to your urologist or physician before starting anything)
A good multi-vitamin
Vitamin E
B12
Selenium
Zinc
Flax oil
Fish oil
Vitamin C
Beta Carotene
Reducing the stress in your life is very important. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation, breathing exercises and/or acupuncture. Walking is also a great way to help you relax. De-stress in whatever way is good for you.
Get adequate sleep.

@zaramum av done it before .will I say its as painful as hsg ? I don't think so cos I was given pain killer and valion(spelling) to make me drowsy.

A dye was also used and a small cut on my navel and a camera inserted into to see while u watch the dye move in the television screen..

I did mine at the teaching hospital it cost plus medication was less than 35k can't remember precisely.but didn't pay upto 35k I tink like 32k sha.....

I just knew it that God has been baking sweet testimony for us on this thread during the long silence.

@arisolama I feel IVF is luck and like you said in your earlier post that once it is time even if you don't pray abt it, it will happen just trust God that he will perfect all that concerns u.

Another thing is to enhance the success of ivf some factors has to be considered
1.Age
2.Nature of fallopian tube(hydrosalpinx)
3.Your womb I.e fibroid ,polyps endometriosis etc
4.Your response to medication
5.Chromosonal effect
6.The expertise
And so many other factors to be considered.
The favour of God and also time of God.

Another reason I said luck is some people might not be a perfect candidate for ivf but they will get a bfp

I av not actually met him but we have been speaking severally on fone sent his questionnaire to me and told me to do some stuff before I will be a good candidate for my cycle which we have been talking abt and he has really been following up with me to make sure I do it well and baased on what I have read abt him on this thread I assumed he shld ...

Nogen: They never tell you anything. I used them twice and it wasn't all pleasant, especially with most of the nurses they have. They forget to tell you the important things! Imagine a woman wasn't told she should continue with her suppositories till she came for her pregnancy test. After the one they gave her at the hospital finished, she didn't do anything. The day of her pt came, that was when they informed her. Can you imagine that? I was didn't take my tigger the day I ought to because of their nonchalant attitude. I even asked their matron, she said I wasn't due for it and that was during my second IVF attempt. I knew I was due judging from what the doctor said but didn't understand why the matron said I wasnt due. I went back to work. Then she called my husband to come pick up my hsg trigger.
One was even asking me for money one time. ( aunts, pls you will see me today o before you go) oh my! I was still crying then that I was back for a second attempt. They are simply not empathic.

The doctor is good but he has a lot of patients. Doesn't have time for detailed explanation to his patients. That's his only minus. they don't just carry their patients along and it is disheartening.

What did your RE say was the cause of the BFN and also which centre did you use.

Well I don't knw too much abt endometriosis,But if u can take out time to read tru this ivf thread u will really gain allot with pikinnmama post.she talked abt blocked tubes extensively.I tink castor oil therapy will help with ur blocked tubes.

God is still in the business of doing miracles their is nothing he can't do so don't think ur condition is out of it.
Also if u read the ttc thread a lot has been said concerning natural ways to shrink fibroid.

The ultimate is prayer talk to ur God he will lead u tru all ur fears.

My consultant has scheduled me for a laparoscopy to check my hydro tube.

I did an appendisectomy like 5yrs ago which I developed infection after the operation ,don't know if it might be the cause for hydrosalpinx

This just the begining of BFP's in the house for the month of august.

Been a while.I have been hybernating just decided to come out of my hidding.

Safeo6,omonikiba,mummyf,and every other fruitful mum in the house I hail o.

Nothing much is happening to me right now my hormones are balanced now .My hormonal assay come out perfect did an abdominal scan that also cameout fine.

But devil has raised his hands and my God will cut it down again and I will triumph

Did hsg which shows right hydrosalpinx and left tubal collision which shows no patency I have googled somany tins on this but they said the only solution is removal of hydro tube and ivf although I have not shown my result to my consultant I hope to see him by thursday and get his own opinion /refferral.

If truelly I have hydro on my tube I feel It could be as a result of my past abdominal surgery(appendix) which troubled me for sometime and was on antibiotics although no cause for alarm my God still lives

I am very happy cos I am getting an head way.am sure solution is close to me.

My husband is still very understanding he told me thank God there is an alternative and to an extent God has been faith[b][/b]ful to us to meet our needs.I just pray if at the end the solution is still IVF God should take charge.
