Governance is a continuum. The late Buhari's legacy I really loved
Buhari's pipeline was through the Sahara which is not feasible given the insecurity and zero markets along the pipeline path.

This is an entirely different project which makes more sense since the pipelines will be built by countries along it's path and the gas sold to them.

Every country will have a share in the gas revenue generated

Politics › Re: I Woul Have Detained You If You're Igbo: Police Checkpoint Extortion Goes Viral by FSBoperator: 10:32am On Jul 24
IGBOPHOBIA1:
Abuja | July 24, 2026

A disturbing incident at a police checkpoint along the Akure axis has once again raised serious concerns about the growing culture of ethnic profiling, extortion, and discrimination against Igbo Nigerians within Nigeria's security institutions.

According to the victim, who recorded the encounter on video, officers stopped his vehicle at a routine police checkpoint while he was returning from Akure. The officers carefully searched the vehicle and thoroughly examined all of his documents. Finding no offense, irregularity, or legal basis to detain him, one of the officers allegedly demanded that he "settle" him with money before he would be allowed to continue his journey.

The motorist refused.

What followed was even more alarming.

Unknown to the officer, the conversation was being recorded. As another officer—who happened to be an acquaintance of the victim—attempted to calm the situation and persuade the officer to allow the motorist to leave, the officer reportedly made a revealing statement:

"I just wanted to check if you are Igbo and I would have detained you, but just settle me so you can be going."

The remark strips away any pretense that the interaction was about law enforcement. Instead, it points to something far more troubling: the apparent normalization of ethnic profiling and the suggestion that being identified as Igbo could itself become a reason for arbitrary detention.

If authentic, such a statement is not merely offensive—it raises profound questions about the conduct expected of law enforcement officers and whether ethnic identity is influencing policing decisions.

Beyond One Officer

This incident should not be viewed in isolation.

Over the past several years, numerous reports from travelers, transport operators, traders, and young professionals have described encounters in which individuals believed to be Igbo were allegedly subjected to heightened suspicion, repeated searches, prolonged questioning, arbitrary detention, or demands for money at checkpoints across various parts of Nigeria.

Many victims recount a familiar pattern:

Questions about their state of origin before any alleged offense is identified.
Immediate assumptions that young Igbo men are involved in criminal activity.
Arbitrary detention despite the absence of incriminating evidence.
Pressure to pay money to secure release.
Threats of fabricated charges if payments are refused.

Whether every allegation is substantiated or not, the consistency of these accounts has contributed to a widespread perception among many Igbo travelers that they face disproportionate scrutiny based on ethnicity rather than conduct.

From Public Prejudice to Institutional Bias

Ethnic stereotypes are unfortunately not new in Nigeria.

What makes incidents such as this particularly concerning is the perception that prejudicial attitudes are no longer confined to social discourse but are finding expression within institutions entrusted with enforcing the law impartially.

The Nigerian Constitution guarantees every citizen freedom from discrimination based on ethnic origin and promises equal protection under the law. Police officers swear to uphold these principles regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation.

If an officer genuinely believes that identifying someone as Igbo creates justification for detention, that reflects a serious departure from those constitutional obligations.

Even if spoken casually, such a statement risks reinforcing public fears that ethnic identity—not evidence—can influence interactions with law enforcement.

The Cost of Ethnic Profiling

Ethnic profiling has consequences that extend well beyond the individual victim.

It erodes public confidence in policing, weakens cooperation between citizens and security agencies, and undermines the credibility of legitimate law enforcement efforts. Communities that believe they are being singled out may become less willing to report crimes or assist investigations, making policing more difficult for everyone.

When citizens begin to fear that their surname, language, or place of origin may expose them to arbitrary treatment, the principle of equal citizenship is diminished.

A Call for Accountability

The video should prompt an impartial investigation by the appropriate authorities to determine the full circumstances of the encounter, verify the statements made, and, if misconduct is established, take appropriate disciplinary action.

Accountability should not depend on whether a citizen happened to be recording. Professional policing requires that officers act lawfully and respectfully in every encounter.

Equally important is the need for continued ethics and anti-bias training within the police service, coupled with stronger oversight mechanisms to address allegations of extortion, discriminatory conduct, and abuse of authority.

Nigeria Cannot Afford Institutionalized Ethnic Suspicion

Nigeria's strength lies in the equal dignity and citizenship of all its peoples. Law enforcement must reflect that principle.

No Nigerian should fear detention because of an ethnic identity. No officer should suggest that tribe could determine whether a citizen is deprived of liberty. And no demand for an unlawful payment should accompany an otherwise lawful stop.

The reported statement from this checkpoint encounter, if confirmed, serves as a reminder that public confidence in security institutions depends not only on combating crime but also on ensuring that every citizen is treated with fairness, professionalism, and respect—regardless of ethnicity.

This govt is just busy doing nothing, acting as if they are active while docile.
Do you even understand what a Military Division is?

A Division is composed of 4 to 5 brigades .

A brigade is composed of at least 10 companies and is headed by a Col/Brigadier.

A Company is composed of 8 to 10 Platoons and is headed by a Lt Col/Col .

A Platoon is composed of 30 men headed by a Lt/Major.

A Division is at least 15, 000 men strong .

And these Divisions are meant to concentrate on securing specific regions/states.

INVESTIGATIVE REPORT: Shady Aspects of Karl Von Batten’s Lobbying Operations

1. ILLEGAL USE OF TAX-EXEMPT CHARITIES (FARA VIOLATIONS)
One of the most serious legal allegations against Karl Von Batten involves his use of a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization to conduct political lobbying, which is strictly prohibited under US tax law.

- The United Somali Alliance: Von Batten utilized this organization, registered as a tax-exempt charity in Minneapolis, to lobby against the US recognition of Somaliland [2].

- Legal Violation: Under IRS rules, 501(c)(3) organizations are forbidden from engaging in "substantial" lobbying or political activity. By hiring Von Batten to lobby the US Senate on behalf of the Somali government through this vehicle, both the organization and Von Batten potentially violated federal law [2].

- Undisclosed Foreign Agency: While Von Batten registered as a foreign agent for the Somali Embassy, the United Somali Alliance itself did not file a Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) statement, despite appearing to act as a front for the Somali government’s diplomatic efforts [2].

- "Pseudo-Charitable" Label: Investigative reports have labeled the United Somali Alliance a "pseudo-charitable organization" because its primary activity appeared to be political warfare against Somaliland rather than charitable work [2].

FRAUDULENT CLAIMS OF POLITICAL INFLUENCE
Von Batten has a documented history of making false or exaggerated claims about his ability to influence US policy and legislation.

- "Blocked Bills" Myth: He frequently claimed on social media to have blocked the "Somaliland Partnership Act" and other legislation. However, Congressional records and staff confirm that he has virtually no access to Capitol Hill and that these claims were fabrications [2].

- False AGOA Claims: After the US removed Ethiopia from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), Von Batten claimed credit for the decision on social media. In reality, the decision was made by the US government months before his firm even filed lobbying paperwork for the client [2].
- Military Policy Fabrication: He publicly announced that the US would "expand military cooperation" with the DRC, a major foreign policy decision that was never made by the State Department or Pentagon. This was described by journalists as him "selling illusions" to gullible clients [1].

- Lack of Real Access: Congressional staffers interviewed by investigators stated they had never heard of him, and his social media posts received no engagement from actual policymakers, suggesting his "influence" was entirely performative [2].

3. FINANCIAL IRREGULARITIES AND MONEY FLOW
The financial structure of his operations raises significant red flags regarding how funds were moved and reported.
- $1 "Contract" Terms: In one FARA filing for the Somali Embassy, Von Batten listed a contract value of "$1" for a one-week engagement, a tactic often used to obscure the true value of services or evade standard reporting thresholds [2].

- Shifting Client Base: He allegedly pitched himself to Somaliland as a pro-democracy advocate, only to turn around and lobby for Somalia (Somaliland's rival) once he secured a contract, suggesting a "pay-to-play" approach devoid of ethical consistency [2].

- DRC Scandal: The DRC government paid him millions of dollars, only to discover that his "lobbying machine" had produced no results. When US Senator Ronny Jackson exposed the DRC's corruption, Von Batten’s firm collapsed, and the DRC realized their money had been wasted on a "fraudulent operation" [1].

- Atiku Contract Signature: In the high-profile $1.2 million contract with Nigerian politician Atiku Abubakar, the document was signed by a third party (Fabiyi Oladimeji) rather than Atiku himself, raising questions about the contract's legitimacy and transparency [6].

4. POLITICAL MANIPULATION AND PARTISANAL EXPLOITATION
Von Batten has been accused of leveraging political affiliations to create a false sense of legitimacy.

- Fake GOP Ties: He claimed to be the "Chairman of the Development Committee of the D.C. Republican Party" and a delegate to the Republican National Convention. While he posted photos with GOP figures like Nikki Haley, these roles were either exaggerated or entirely fabricated to suggest he had deep connections within the party [3].

- Exploiting Political Divisions: He reportedly used his alleged GOP connections to cozy up to "Never Trumpers" while simultaneously lobbying for foreign governments that may conflict with US interests, creating a complex web of potential conflicts of interest [3].

- Weaponizing Allegations: In 2026, his firm began submitting documents to the Trump administration alleging drug trafficking connections involving Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. Critics argue this was a tactic to destabilize a political rival of his client, Atiku Abubakar, rather than a genuine legal effort [3].

5. OPERATIONAL PATTERNS OF DECEPTION

- Identity Shifting: He frequently changes his name (Karl Von Batten, Edward Ikemefuna, Karl-Marx Edward) to confuse background checks and create multiple "identities" that seem more established than they are [1].

- Fake Credentials as a Sales Tool: His entire business model appears to rely on a fabricated academic and professional bio that he uses to secure contracts from African governments who cannot easily verify his claims in the US [1].

- Silence on Failures: Despite public scandals where clients (DRC, Somalia) received no return on investment, he has never publicly accounted for the missing money or admitted to the failure of his lobbying efforts [1].

CONCLUSION
Karl Von Batten’s lobbying career is characterized by a pattern of using legal loopholes (like 501(c)(3) abuse), making false claims of influence, and exploiting the information asymmetry between African governments and the US political system. His operations have been described by investigators as a "scam" that preys on nations desperate for influence in Washington, leaving them with millions in lost funds and no political results [1] [2].
