cap28: No need to go on the defensive. My post was merely a response to your obvious attempt to crow about the acheivements of Ogundipe - i felt it was necessary to put you in the picture about Ironsi's achievements as well - do you have a problem with that? You seemed to be basking in the sycophantic praise showered on you by one of your followers and i thought i might as well balance out the facts. For a man who claims not to do comparisons between tribes you seem to spend an awful lot of time getting embroiled in yoruba v igbo debates in respect of the nigerian civil war, hardly the mindset or actions of a non tribalistic person!! I am not ALWAYS angry and emotional , i just get irritated when people like you twist and distort facts in order to suit your bigotted agendas. Apology accepted! Now that we know that Ironsi is not your kinsman, we forgive you for your obvious but unnecessary mistake. Have a great day! |

cap28: And what do you call a man who was the most decorated soldier of his generation.
A man who spoke all three of nigeria's major languages (igbo, yoruba and hausa) fluently. A man who commanded a UN peacekeeping force in the Congo ( the first african to command such a force)
A man who took on the rank of major general while in the Congo (again the first african to attain such a rank) but who humbly reverted to brigadier upon his return to Nigeria.
A man who was awarded a medal for gallantry by the Austrian govt for his bravery and courage in the Congo.
I tell you what you call such a man, you call him Johnson Aguiyi Ironsi - a man who was brutally cut down in his prime by barbarians because of his honesty and sincerity.
Katsumoto you are not fit to kiss the feet of his descendants. A Sierra LeoneanIronsi is from Republic of Sierra Leone, remember dumb-dumb Always eager to claim other people! |

Katsumoto: What do you call a man who faced the Japs in Burma in WW2 for 3 years? Until you accomplish such a feat, you are not fit to call the man's name.
'Another serious rival of Ironsi's, Brigadier Ogundipe, had the advantage of not only being the only senior Nigerian officer who had actually seen combat in Burma during World War2 but had also been the first Nigerian to command a Brigade formation at Lualuaborg in the Congo (before Ironsi assumed overall command of ONUC).'

Egbe Omo Oduduwa From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article includes a list of references, related reading or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. Please improve this article by introducing more precise citations where appropriate. (April 2009) Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà, was a Nigerian political organization established in 1945, when Chief Obafemi Awolowo along with Dr. Oni Akerele, Chief Akintola Williams, Professor Saburi Biobaku, Chief Abiodun Akinrele, Chief Ayo Rosiji and others, met in London. Their stated aim in setting up the organization was to unite the Yorùbá in a manner similar to the tenets of the Ibibio State Union and the Ibo Federal Union; which were political action committees of the Ibibio and the Igbo respectively. The Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà grew in importance in 1948 when it was launched in Lagos with great fanfare by prominent Yorùbá politicians associated with the Nigerian Youth Movement. These politicians included Chief Bode Thomas, Sir Adeyemo Alakija, Chief H. O. Davies, Dr. Kofo Abayomi, Dr. Akinola Maja and others. The revival of the Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà in 1948 was not accidental, because that was the year heated debates were being held to the decide Nigeria's political orientation; nationalism or parochialism. During this period of the struggle for independence from the British, radical nationalism had been on the ascendancy since 1938, but it became very pronounced, between 1945-1948. This period was marked by the General Strike of 1945 and the 1946 Nigeria-wide NCNC campaign against the imposition of the Richards Constitution. Yoruba politicians in Lagos led by Chief Bode Thomas formed the group in response to the afore-mentioned ethnically specific organizations, and also to chart a specific course for the development of Nigeria's Western Region, populated overwhelmingly by Yorubas. On March 21, 1951 the Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà set up a political party called the Action Group. The party was to serve as the vehicle for realizing its primary objective of mobilizing the Yorùbá into one political umbrella. The Action Group, was therefore formed to implement the ideals and objectives of the Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà; and was led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The Egbé Ọmọ Odùduwà was relauched again lead by Adesegun Musiwa as a political forum to support for all children of Oduduwa. EgbeOmoduduwa@live.com. Other organization within Egbe Omo Oduduwa are (OSIA) Oduduwa Economical agency (OEA) Oduduwa education foundation (OEF) Oduduwa development agency (ODA) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egbe_Omo_Oduduwa |

Cachez: I can see that majority of people that have made comments are really ignorant of situation on ground. It may be true that the purported elevation of the president of court of Appeal to Supreme court is a promotion, but it is actually a demotion in disguise. The president of appeal court is equal to a judge in supreme court. The seniority in Supreme court is determined from the day one is confirmed to the supreme court. So going by this u will agree that many of Justic Salami juniors that he had recommended to the supreme court in the past while occupying the position of the president of the appeal court will now be his seniors. So it is better and more honourable for them to leave the man to retire as the president of the appeal court. I think the elevation is politically motivated to pave way for some politicians since the elections will soon commence.Remember court of appeal handles tribunal cases related to governorship election. You are paranoid He is not the only competent person around and no one, and i mean NO ONE, is indispensable. With him as the President of the Court of Appeals or not, what will happen will happen. No one is bigger than due process and no judge is bigger than Nigeria. Let him get off his high horse or else he would be disgraced from his position. |

Johndoe100: It is only in Nigeria that someone who is an employee can dictate how and where he/she will work. Employers are he ones who dictate. If the employee is unhappy with the new adjusted duties he can resign. That is the honorable path. Is the position his own? Does it belong to his familly? I wonder what example these politicized Judges think they are setting. You brought out a cogent point. As a professional, it was unbecoming of him to have complained, and even more disheartening is the fact that he made it public and personal between himself and his superior, and in the process tarnished the image of both his superior and the Presidency, and by his own actions, he has left his superiors with no other option that to fire him, or at least, take some disciplinary actions against him He is definitely setting a bad precedent and you'd thing he would know better but, eh, this is Nigeria, everything, and anything, goes! |

eku_bear: We lack an army. That is the cold, hard truth. Once we have an ethnic army like the North does, or even the ND militants do, then the reality on the ground in Nigeria will be very different.
That is really all it boils down to. Nobody listens to you in this country w/o the threat of violence. Things are changing OPC has been doing great, if not for the in fighting between Gani Adams and Faseun, they would have been more formidable and better organised than they presently are. Hopefully, going forward, they both can work on their differences for the good of the SW. |

eku_bear: It is what it is. He lost the mid-west territory, lost control over the Western region to Akintola and allowed the enemies of the Yoruba people to cause chaos in the land, got himself imprisoned on trumped up charges, and kept trying to make alliance with the Igbo when it is clear they meant nothing but harm for him.
Only reason why things turned out halfway decently is because of the incompetence of the Igbo coup plotters and Ironsi. If they'd be somewhat reasonable in their actions (capture rather than kill leaders, place less trust in Northern soldiers, consolidate their hold on the army), the counter-coup would never have occurred and they'd be dominant in all of Nigeria today.
Anyway, I'm sure he tried his best. But results are all that matter to me. And the end result would have not been very good without a fortuitous miscalculation by his enemies. not sure if that is the right way to put it. anyways, how would you have handled the situation? |
