Explorers: 6. Jose Mujica, Uruguayan President(1978 Volkswagen Beetle).
Jose Mujica, president of Uruguay since 2010, is known to be the world’s poorest president. Jose donates more than 90% of his $12,000 per month salary to benefit the poor and to help small entrepreneurs. If we need more of anything in this world, it would be more people like this. This man doesn’t put value on his appearance or clothes. He is criticized for his posture and clothes, but Jose puts more value on other things in life instead. The president and his wife work the land themselves, growing flowers. This austere lifestyle and the fact that Mujica donates about 90% of his monthly salary, equivalent to $12,000 (£7,500), to charity has led him to be labelled the poorest president in the world." I'm called the poorest president', but I don't feel pooI, ive lived like this most of my life," he says, sitting on an old chair in his garden, using a cushion favoured by Manuela the dog. "I can live well with what I have." His charitable donations which benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs mean his salary is roughly in line with the average Uruguayan income of $775 (£485) a month.
source: http://astoundable.com/worlds-poorest-president/ The current Nigerian President can also do such but I doubt if those law maker will allow him |

zimoni: Akokos are just like every other Yoruba sub-ethnic group. They speak general Yoruba and their local dialects.
What's funny about Akokos is that each community/town has its own dialect. I as a Yoruba hear some of the dialect when they speak while I don't understand some. Some Akokos don't even underatand each other. For instance Ibaramu Akoko, no one understand them when they speak apart from a native of Ibaramu Akoko.
I studied at FUTA and had some Akokos as friends. Let me invite one of them to show up. Ogbeni tolababa, your attention is needed here.
Where is Prof Katsumoto nah? How I wish he could make contributions to the thread.
What a lovely thread. Please I want to sleep na That is what am saying, I also graduated from FUTA, had some friend from their. My roomate in 200l is from Ikaram Akoko whenever he is on call I was like OH GOD! This guy don start again |

Aareonakakanfo: The yoruba Okun people speak is as clear as the one the yorubas in Lagos speak Ho! Is that so, well those are the part of Yorubaland I haven't been to anyway, so I haven't listen to them whenever they speak on their soil. |

superstar1: Really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am shocked.
I thought there is always this story of Nri and Eri and the link with the Igbos. I have always felt they are Igbo's cousin, the same way Itshekiris and Binis are ours. Yea they quickly understand Yoruba Language whenever they move west also cos of the little Language similarities. |
Politics › Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Funjosh(m): 8:51pm On Oct 26, 2015 |
Missy89: Yea they do see themselves as Yorubas. They have full Yoruba names etc and the language is not really similar but i am not sure how i can explain it to you.Yoruba is generally spoken anyways. But if you only speak yoruba you wont understand it language.
I am from the South East so that is mostly the part that migrated to the West, founded their own towns and mixed with other Akokos and can trace their ancestry back to old Benin. Hmmm. That is one thing I noticed whenever I speak general Yoruba, dey understand. But whenever they are communicating withing themselves I don't pick a single word from it. I think same with the Yoruba of Kogi and some Part of Akoko Edo also. |

superstar1: I do ot even know anything about the Ogori Magogos. Igalas have more link with the Igbos than the yorubas.
Olukumis are descendants of Oduduwa. Likewise the ruling houe of Bini.
I even read that the official language of the Oba of Benin within the courtyard is Yoruba, I do not know how true that is, but taking the eulogy of Oba of benin -- Iku Akpolokpolo -- it might be true. Wrong. Igala people culture and language more closely to Yoruba. Come and eat in Igala = wa ba mi jeun Vigilante = Olode And some other stuff like that. |

How different is your Ondo dialect from Ekiti? Akure Dialect and Ekiti is almost similar, but Ondo Dialect is a different from them. |
Politics › Re: Yoruba Commonwealth and Politics by Funjosh(m): 7:58pm On Oct 26, 2015 |
mandarin: When you study Samuel Johnson history of the Yoruba, it was centred on Oyo Empire and by no means exhaustive of all Yoruba tribes.Basically it was pro Oyo but Oyo was the youngest empire as at then, there were other kingdoms way back before Oyo and even before Ife. Most pro Yoruba groups across the world talked of Ife but ife became prominent at the time of Oduduwa and before Oduduwa became the Adimula Olofin, there has been over 90 kings that had reigned. If for instance a king reigned an average of 10 years(some would be less others could be up to 50) then Ife had been having kings for over 900years. So what about those years? The Revd history never covered all of ife just largely Oyo.The Oyo were referred to as the Yoruba initially which now apply to all.Historically, places like Ekiti to Ondo, Idanre ,Owo and may be Ijebu predate ife and Oyo Alot of Yoruba tribes not captured in Revd Johnson history include most of Ekiti, Ondo states, Yoruba in Kogi, Bini, Itsekiri, Olukumi, Gbagyi and Igala,Ilaje, Ikale etc Am more confused bros u no answer my question |

Missy89: Depends on the part of Akoko you are talking about. Some parts like the South East migrated from Edo Am talking about the Akoko of Ondo state |
