Mizsylviah: CHAPTER 17
Sweetheart, why are you crying? What happened? Kola asked as he ushered Chisimdi into his house.
My heart is shattered, i feel battered and i really need someone to talk to.
Baby, take a deep breath and tell me what the matter is.
I know this might sound ludicrous to you but he is my life. When i dare to look into the future, i can't imagine a day without him. He is everything I've ever wished for. How could he get my best friend pregnant? She wailed.
Pregnant! Kola exclaimed obviously shocked by her utterance. He glared at her in quietude and spoke up eventually.
I'm so sorry baby but i knew your relationship with him was gonna turn sour.
How do you mean?
I hired a private investigator to spy on you guys and collated he was a chronic womanizer. I've got pictures as substantiations, just hold on a minute so I'd go get them.
Kola breezed into his room and came back with numerous pictures of Jide with random ladies.
Chisimdi leered at it and felt quite repulsed. Tears trickled down her eyes as she stared at Jide in uncompromising positions with several unclad ladies.
Jide is a World wide womanizer. He proposes to ladies and calls off the engagement after tasting their "honey well," especially the recalcitrant ones. If you don't mind, i could have the ladies come narrate their ordeal. He is an exconvict; the year he turned 18, he was involved in a rape case Abroad and was sentenced to 14years imprisonment but with his father's influence, he served a two year jail term. He got back to Nigeria and was admitted into the Prestigious University of Ibadan. He established a secret cult that claimed the lives of so many students and was involved in several murder cases but as usual, his dad always came to the rescue. He also did drugs and was admitted into a rehabilitation center for a year.
My God! You knew all this and never thought it sage to tell me.
Sweetheart, I'm so sorry but if i had done that, you'd tag me as being jealous. You never believed me because it was obvious you loved him.
Chisimdi was marveled at the revelation and gave gratitude to God for delivering her from the hands of the devourer. She pondered on how he got to know about Jide's private life but she was emotionally drained to ask further questions so she kept mute.
Baby, i wasn't kidding when i said i loved you neither did i mince words when i said i was gonna lay the world at your feet. Just give me a chance to prove my worth and I'd never give you a reason to shed tears.
I'd wanna ask a favour, she said without paying heed to his utterance, she was in no mood for that.
Just say the word and it'd be done, Kola replied.
Please can i put up with you for a while? I don't think i can go back to that house, i need closure and a cool ambience to think things through.
Sure, you need not ask, my home is your home.
Thank you so much, if you don't mind, I'd love to be left alone.
Alright, I'd take you to the room. What would you love to eat so i go get it for you.
I'd pass, thank you.
He however took her to the room and smiled inwardly. Victory at last, "he who laughs last, laughs best," he muttered as he left the room.
****************
Finally, you've decided to come pay your wife and the mother of your child a visit, Kyla said as she welcomed Jide into the house.
Get a hold of yourself, I'm not here for you. I'm here to confirm if my baby is back. Her phone is switched off and she's not been to the office for the past three weeks.
And how does that affect me? Are my her keeper? Instead of you to be concerned about your unborn baby, you are busy getting worked up with someone who doesn't give a damn about you. I mean, what does she have that i can't give you? I've got a pretty face, succulent boobs and a massive behind that'd make a man go gaga and forget his surname.
Jide ogled at her in disdain and shook his head. Have you ever heard of the word "fish brain?"
What do you mean by that statement, she riposted.
It is apparent you've got nothing to bring to the table. Ladies like you are unintellectual and exude the aura of ignorance. My Chisimdi is the definition of a beauty with brain and she is all, i mean all you are not and can never be, he stressed.
You can bloat about her for all i care but you are stuck with me for the rest of your life. Ain't no way I'd allow her come between us, that'd be over my dead body.
If only she knew you were this cocky, she'd be cautious. I think i'd better take my leave now, I'm susceptible to myopic thinkers, he said and stumped out of the house.
Geez! This dude just assaulted my life with his tongue. Well, if you think i'd let you slip off my fingers, you lie! She quickly placed a call across to a notorious friend of hers.
Babe, i think i'd go with your advice, she stands a huge threat to my gaiety and that of my unborn baby. He'd probably come to my waiting arms once she's out of the picture.
Gbam! Glad you've decided to honor the voice of reasoning. I detest that Chisimdi of a girl, she parades herself like the best thing that has happened to planet Earth. She emanates pride and i wonder how you've been able to put up with her all this years.
My dear, i am resolute to take her down and nothing is gonna deter me. Screw friendship!
Yes o, who friendship help? Abeg no let anybody put sand sand for your garri o. I go come your area make we strategize.
Alright, i'd be expecting you.
******************
Baby, it's been thee weeks, you just have to let it go. The nigga ain't worth your tears, Kola said.
It's not that easy, despite his atrocities, i still love him.
Love you say? The sooner you get him off your mind, the better for you. I'm off to go get some groceries, i'd be back in a jiffy, he said and tried to place a kiss on her lips but she withdrew her face. He was trying really hard not to loose his cool; she had refused his advances on several occasions and he was getting impatient. He glared at her for a while with anger in his eyes and stumped out of the room.
She had no iota of love for Kola and she felt bad because she couldn't reciprocate his love. She however decided to take her bath but discovered she had no soap so she went into Kola's room. Just as she was about leaving his room with the soap, a beautiful book caught her attention and she decided to take a glimpse. She flipped through the pages and discerned it was his diary. She knew it was unethical to go through someone's diary but the urge to read about his life enveloped her.
9/11/2009 Dear diary, she read. It feels good to finally gain admission into the prestigious University of Ibadan, it is an achievement on my part and i am determined to make the best out of this golden opportunity. I made a friend today, he is my doppelganger and he seems like a really nice guy. His name is Jide Bankole, sole heir to Banko Finance Firm. I am loving this 1 Like |

Before you catch feelings.....
*****
Chapter Five
Martha rushed back home with an excitement in her body she hadn’t felt in years, and just a little amount of fear. Today had gone far better than she had expected, but even more, she had gotten Alex to do something- and ended up further complicating her life.
She had tried to numb down on her excitement since she left the house ,but it was proving almost impossible. She felt like a teenager once again, and while that left a bubble inside her, it also made her feel a bit conscious. She didn’t want to go in over her head with this man for various reasons, not only was he totally out of her league, there was also the fact that he lived in another city entirely and would soon have to leave Abuja. When eh got back to Lagos, he would be reunited with the women there and would soon enough forget about her.
That thought was enough to douse her excitement just a little as she finally reached her house and went in. she locked up the gate and headed toward the building, where she found her father sitting in the veranda.
She slowed down her steps and smiled at her father, “Papa, mmekom o.” (Good evening)
He returned her smile, “mmekom eyen mi, idem mfo abadie?” (Good evening my daughter, how are you?)
“Idem mfo o” (I’m fine)
“Utom ake abadie?” (How was work?)
“It was fine, sir.” She responded, her smile reaching her ears when she remembered just how fine work had been today. Easily the best day of work for her since she began this job.
Her father nodded, “That’s good to hear, welcome oooh.”
“Thank you sir.” She stated once again, she made a move to walk past, and then decided to ask for her mother’s whereabouts, “Papa, where is mama?” she asked. It was only fitting that she take the success story of her latest trial to the person who had come up with the plan to begin with
“Aye mmoba ke esid ufok, I think she’s arranging some of the goods she received today.” (she’s inside)
“Okay, thank you sir.” She said, that damned grin refusing to leave her face.
Her father’s expression took on a confused form as she walked past him, “Martha.” He called just before she stepped into the house.
“Sir?”
He observed her for a while before asking, “Adodie abadie?” (Are you alright?)
She figured at that point, that her smile probably made her look a little out of it, so, she forced it back a little before responding, “Afon.” She responded.
He seemed like he wanted to ask more, but she didn’t stay any longer, to avoid whatever interrogation he had planned for her. She went into the house and headed straight for her parent’s room, giddy with excitement.
She knocked at the door and barely allowed her mother respond with her usual ‘Come in.” before bursting into the room, “Mummy, you’re a genius!” she exclaimed as soon as she was inside, she closed the door behind her and rushed to her mother’s side.
Edith looked a bit surprised at her daughter’s entrance and confused as well, “Ahn ahn, Martha, this one you are so excited, how was work?”
“He kissed me.” She blurted out.
Her mother’s eyes widened dramatically, “Ewurade!” she exclaimed as she moved the pile of Kente she had been taking stock of aside and focused on Martha, “Tell me all about it.” she said
“Well, I did as you said, paid him no attention and was as civil as you suggested. At first I thought it wasn’t working because he wasn’t flipping out on me or anything like that, then this afternoon, when I brought his father out for lunch, that’s when it happened….mama, it was so much better than I imagined. Alex is everything.”
“Calm down Juliet, no need to get all jumpy because of this man. Did he say anything to you?”
“It’s not what he said mama, it’s what he does. There’s this intensity about him, I can’t explain it, but, he doesn’t have to say much, he just does these things….” Her words flittered away, she found herself unable to describe Alex’ ways to her mother. He wasn’t like any of the men she was used to, there was no brashness in his ways. He was a man of actions and boy, did those actions make her head spin
Edith raised her brows in surprise as a smile brightened her face, “Darling, it sounds like you’re in love with this man.” She observed. She had never seen her daughter so love struck over anyone. It wasn’t like Martha to be all googly eyed over a man, she had had some crushes when she was younger, but none of them had ever been like this and she was no child.
Martha sighed and buried her face in her hand, hiding her goofy smile, “I don’t know mama, I don’t know what I feel for him. I just know I like him a little too much.”
Edith smiled and took Martha’s hand, “Well, I’m happy for you my child, and I pray you continue to have more reasons to smile and glow like this, but I want you to always remember to protect your heart. Never get too involved in your feelings especially with a man like your boss’ son who could be out of your life in a few days. I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
Those solemn words from her mother brought to fore, her own reservations about what she was feeling right now and caused her smile to falter. The truth in those words weren’t lost on her and while she wanted to live in the moment and not worry about the consequences of falling for a man who lived hundreds of kilometers away, a small part of her was still hopeful that even if Alex had to go back to Lagos, maybe, she would leave an effect strong enough to have him coming back for her.
However, for now, she nodded at her mother’s words, “I understand mama.”
