prologue My name is Titilope Alabi, I am a sixteen years old virgin living in Lagos island . Just so you know, i rarely make my V-status a thing of public attraction or throw it on people’s faces but for the sake of this story I feel it’s only proper I put it out there. Well, the thing is my V-status is kind of a big deal to me. All my life I have always been reminded of how sacred that body part is. Even the bible said it’s the temple of the Lord, yada yada, yada. I don’t really want to bore you with this part but that’s one of the reasons why I have held it with esteem for this long. The other reason, pretty much the main reason is that I am married to Jesus. Okay, I know this sounds a bit creepy but just listen. On the night of my fifth birthday, a man with long curly black hair, wearing a white robe with his skin as pale as a banana peel visited me in my room and handed me a ring and then he called me his wife. Creepy right? I thought so too but it all made sense to me later when I watched the passion of Christ and realized that the actor who played Christ in the movie was the same man that appeared to me in my dreams. So now, you get why I say I am married to Jesus. My family makes it even easier for me to stay married to Jesus. My mum, holiness on the higher realm. Women leader of the Christian women association, the state chapter. Tongues rapping apostle -- raarratabaa. Destroyer of a sweet morning sleep. Holyghost first daughter put respect on that. Salvation preacher till you knock yourself out. I am better than pastor’s wife sister Philomina. See, the list is endless. My dad, he’s just there. President of the association of Christian men, our church chapter. Salvation preacher till he doses off. But my dad is the real OG of the OG when my mum isn’t looking. Then my little brother Tobi, not much of a problem but my biggest pain in the ass. Well, I love him that way. See, I was living the perfect life. School, church and home. A triad. I couldn’t ask for anything more than that. I don’t care what anyone says or do. I don't have cool friends. Fine. What do I need them for anyway? This was my perfect life until the new boy arrived. The new boy that have come to test my faith. ©, Gabriel Odigiri, 2020 |

Episode 6 We didn’t want to attract the tabloids again, so driving all the way to Bay beach wasn’t an option and we couldn’t ask Solomon for another favor, cause the last time, he wanted his favor paid back with a three-some. Him, Sophia and I. There was no chance in hell; I was letting a man touch me in a sexual way. I would rather the police lock me up and threw the keys away. l thought of another option. We could incinerate her -- cut her into many parts and prepare her for a barbeque toast. Sophia immediately bought the idea but the problem now was, where do we start the fire? Sophia suggested the garage but then how do we ensure we didn’t get choked by the thick burning smoke since the garage door can’t be left open for the smoke to disperse at ease. You see the thing with burning dead bodies, the smoke that erupts, carries the stench and the air doesn’t do well in hiding it and some of these nosy neighbors of ours could catch the smell, risking details like this appearing in the testimonies at court if we ever get charged for this murder. Sophia agreed to this too, burning a dead body in our home wasn’t the perfect idea but we can’t risk having the smell of dead body permanent on our floor. So what do we do? “We could burn her in an open place,” Sophia suggested. "An open place?” I quipped. “What if we get caught?” “I don’t mean a place we can be seen. I mean…what of the bushes?” The only bush close by was ten minutes drive away. We would just like we did Naomi. Wrap her up in a blanket and shove her into the trunk and drive all the way and get her burnt into ashes. We both bought the idea. This was how we will get away with murder again but it was easier said than done. Just to be clear, the whole burning of the red girl’s corpse didn’t just come to me naturally, I mean I wasn’t born with a serial killer’s instinct. The case of the actress, the drowning in the pool thing, a police detective had knocked on our door on a certain day to ask us questions about her death. One underpaid detective -- Lucas Paul. A very tall, lean, in dire need of three square of balanced meal kind of lean with a back, almost hunched suspected foul play. How can a pool that could barely reach her shoulder drown her? Even if it was possible, not Laura who has a gold model in swimming at south African swimming competition when she was a teenager. He asked me a round of questions. What was our business with her before her death? Did we speak before she died? Was I cheating on my wife with her? Very annoying questions, that one slip could have landed me in a big shit but I answered them meticulously. She worked as an MC once for my wife. I don’t have any need communicating with her after the event. I will never cheat on my wife. Sophia answered hers, equally intelligently and we were off his trail for the time being. I agreed with the detective though. His suspicions held the right amount of water. The pool seemed too shallow for her to drown. But all these actresses have many enemies so it could be one of them who drowned her but definitely not us. He came back weeks later, with the blackmail messages in Laura’s phone. We asserted to the blackmail but that wasn’t evidence enough that we drowned her, after all we had a strong alibi. We stayed up late at a friend’s house warming party until the next day. He left us again but we feared for the time being. Then, we met Ana months later and had to deal with her corpse after Sophia mistakenly killed her. We can’t risk another body been found and tracing it to us, so cremation was the perfect way to get away with this murder. I drove that night alone, so I could get it all done with quickly even though Sophia argued I couldn’t do it all by myself. She doesn’t trust I have defeated my phobia for dark places and I could shit my pants being alone with a dead body but I disagreed, I was the man. A man don’t fear the dark or the dead. Okay, that’s a lie. Sophia knew me too well, I would shit my pants left alone with Ana’s corpse in the dark but I needed to put my ass together and get this done without Sophia breathing hot air on my neck. I dragged her body through the shadows of the dark bushes and spewed fuel all over her but I couldn’t keep the fire in the match stick burning. The wind kept putting it out and my balls shriveled. It was easy to blame the wind despite I was visibly shaken, lighting that match. After many struggles I got a steady fire and threw it on her but the lights goes out even before it landed on her. The night sky was slowly getting bright and I had no choice but to roll her body in a trench and drove back home. When I got home Sophia was already asleep. Sleeping so peacefully like she hasn’t just killed a human being. The redgirl’s blood formed a shape on the floor. Something that looked like a bleeding heart, I really can’t say. I got down on my knees with a bucket of cold water mixed with chlorine bleach and scrubbed till the whole stain was washed away. I returned to the living room and slept on the couch, thinking that maybe this was it. A sign to call this marriage quit. When I was still a marketer at that insurance bank, I dated this lady colleague. Things weren’t really going well for us cause I couldn’t give her the things she would demand for. Not like I was been paid a higher salary but I understand as a man I ought to meet some of her needs. Then fortunately she got a job as the secretary for a big politician and I was so happy she wouldn’t be all that demanding anymore. But just a few months she started working for this politician, I received a text message from her that it was over. I tried reaching her to find out what I did wrong but to no avail. Went to her house but she wasn’t always around. I went to the office but couldn’t pass the security men. I got really frustrated and had gone days without eating but I needed to man up and move the hell up. One day I woke up to the news that she was getting married to the politician as his third wife. Nothing could have been more painful. She left me because someone could give her the life I couldn’t give. After that day I vowed to make the kind of money that a woman wouldn’t have the guts to break up with me through a text message. Then I met Sophia, the woman who didn’t need my money and fortunately for me, I got her to fall in love with me after stalking her for months at events and finally growing the balls to slide into her dm. I think at first she used me to get back at Solomon but she caught feelings after. I really played my cards right. We got married, well you know the circumstances that led to that. And I had ever since lived on her wealth and became her boy toy instead of her husband but I was done with this life of sexual pervasion and now murders. I told her in the morning that I wanted a divorce but she didn’t say a word. Not the following day or even the following week but on a certain Sunday morning, I opened the door to Detective Lucas flagged by two policemen armed to the teeth. One of them holding a handcuff. "You are under arrest for the murder of one Ana Bernard.” Before I could say a word, I was already at the back of their van, heading for south. Hands in cuffs. Mind racing. This was the end for sure. Sophia did this. ©, Gabriel Odigiri, 2020 |

Episode 5 As she sank deep into the ocean, there our horrors sank too. We could then heave a sigh of relief and have a glass of strong wine. Not many rookies had gotten away with murder, so it was something to pop a bottle of champagne over but we drove home that night, quiet as the cold shivering night. The week after that night was slow and the nights were even slower. Sophia kept waking up every spilt hour to drink water from the fridge. I suspected she was having nightmares about Naomi but I didn’t ask. I had mine to deal with. A lady in white, floating in the mid air with blood gushing out of her mouth stood like a giant portrait in my dreams, written in letters of blood on a placard: MURDERER.. It gave me the creeps every freaking time but I try not to jolt from the bed screaming help. We never really talked about the murder or the cover up, having narrowly escaped getting searched by the police because somehow the whole choking on my air bubbles didn’t work out and desperation finally led Sophia to call Solomon. Solomon who was now a member of the green chambers had threatened the policemen that he would put the IGP on call, if they didn’t let us go and the threat got to them. We drove into the night to baybeach and lifted the body of Naomi with Sophia on the head and me on the legs and dumped her into the ocean. It could have been my imagination but she felt heavier than when we first carried her into the trunk of our car at home. To think, dead bodies are suppose to be lighter, bewildered me. Over dinner, over lunch, I waited for Sophia to say something. What really happened? Did you catch her red handed with the gold? Did she try to attack you? What? I wanted answers but the day I gathered the courage to ask Sophia, she looked me dead in the eyes with no memories. "Who’s Naomi? That gave me the creeps but I let it slid. We all needed the amnesia from that event anyway. We moved on. Things were to go back to normal but on a certain Saturday morning, the doorbell that haven’t been used since we packed into our duplex, rung high in the air and when I opened the door, a man with the stomach of a pregnant woman greeted me with a set of yellow tooth. "I am from the state CID…” He flashed his ID card in my face. I could swear that wasn’t him. A slimmer looking fellow, better looking than the man in front of me. "How can I help you officer?” "I just want to ask you a few questions.” That week had been a no TV week for us. We had killed every urge to turn on the TV and see the news of the drowned body of a young girl found by a fisherman or washed off the shores but it was rather too hard to keep off social media. Most blogger went for the photos of her in dubai on a horseback and to think, I was the one that took those photos of her was just unnerving. I couldn’t read how her body was found. Just couldn’t burden myself with those details while I was already burdened with the guilt of drowning her body. "Why if I may ask?” I asked the policeman. I had grown quite some balls. Standing there, not pissing my pants, trying hard not to look guilty of even killing a cockroach. "Of a missing person,” He replied. "Do you have a warrant officer?” I asked. This was borne out of many nights binge watching police procedurals in my laptop and hoping that police warrant was actually a thing in this part of the world. "Just a few questions Sir, I won’t take your time.” "A warrant or no questions Sir.” I maintained a tough face, like somehow it finally got to me, the many years of Sophia’s teasing that I don’t have a bad guy’s face. The policeman left that day without questioning me and didn’t return again either. We only later got to find out that the missing person he wanted to question me about was the house help of one of our neighbors that absconded with their valuables. We could breathe the free air throughout the rest of the year, having finally brought out our expensive blanket from the storeroom and set it ablaze. No evidence associating us to the crime, we move. For the rest of the New Year, I promised the universe a new leaf. No extra marital affairs with some girl we met on a vacation or picked off the streets. Naomi’s incident was sign enough that God wasn’t in support of our sexual adventures. Then came Laura Damini, a Nollywood actress Sophia met at some funding raising event and decided to have her MC an upcoming event of hers. "She’s so pretty in person,” Sophia couldn’t stop gushing over her when she returned home that day and I couldn’t help but search for her on instagram. Sophia didn’t lie. She had the most charming set of brown eyes. The clearest of skin. Tall, with hips that don’t lie. A Sharon stone with Angelina Jolie as the icing on the cake. I could bend her over and in minutes I would have splashed sperm all over her but she wasn’t worth me breaking my new year’s resolution Sophia invited her to the house on a certain day to run over some details about the event she would be MCing. I came home that day, craving a cold bath for my sun afflicted skin and went straight to the room after exchanging pleasantries and complimenting her beauty. After taking off my cloths, I made my way to the bathroom and submerged my naked self in the foamy bath tub and grabbed my erected cock caused by the steamy images of Laura’s naked oily body in my head. I stroked my cock, feeding on the images till I cum all over the bath. That evening I didn’t know how to tell Sophia that I wanted so badly to have sex with Laura. I feared she would be upset that I wasn’t adhering to our resolutions but I wasn’t certain she was adhering anyway, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring this up but on a second thought, Sophia would tell me if she wanted us to go back to our former selves. A day to the event Laura came visiting again. Sophia had gone for a meeting so I was home alone. I offered her a glass of wine and we sat in the living room talking everything pop culture and surprisingly about politics. Laura’s father was a big time politician rumored to have been assassinated by the rival party. She talked passionately about finding closure about his death some day. She seemed like an intelligent strong willed woman, I was so wrong to have pegged her a bimbo. Sophia returned twenty minutes after Laura left. She wore a confusing grin throughout and I was forced to ask her what was exciting her. "I wanted to ask you why you are not excited?” She asked me back. "Excited over what?” “Laura?” Laura? It explained the whole sheepish grin. Sophia had the whole Laura coming to the house planned, it was so obvious. “Why should I be excited over Laura?” “Nothing happened?” “What were you expecting to happen?” “Come on Bash…” She gave me the look that she didn’t believe me. That evening I got to find out that Sophia was as fed up of our resolutions as I was. We started plotting ways to bring Laura on board but then I remembered Laura wouldn’t be an easy target and informed Sophia but she had a hard laugh over it. "Aren’t all Nollywood actresses the same? Sophia was right; it didn’t take much convincing Laura for a party. The money we paid her could buy her the latest benz to show off on social media as the product of her hustle. We had many threesomes over the course of four months but on the fifth month, Laura was either tired or she saw a bigger opportunity to wreck us. She asked for hundred million naira bribe or she will expose us to the world. I think she figured, we had a lot to lose if our arrangements came to limelight. Sophia’s father was recently elected by his party as the presidential candidate, a scandal like this could destroy his chances and we wouldn’t want to deal with his wrath at all. Laura didn’t really have much to lose, the bad publicity would somehow exonerate her dying acting career. The showbiz world is that crazy. So we decided to pay her off but on the day Sophia was suppose to do the transfer, we heard that Laura drowned in her swimming pool. ©, Gabriel Odigiri, 2020 www.thegabrielodigiristories. |

Episode 4 The police man with a burnt scar covering half of his sullen face refused the money Sophia offered him. He insisted we open the trunk of our vehicle or he will open fire on us. By this time, I had given up. It was over. I had imagined myself, in kirikiri, living on hard labor and uncooked beans and had imagined Sophia in the female wing, getting tossed around by masculine looking female prisoners for breakfast. Do something Bash…Sophia needed not to say these words, her eyes did. But what can I do to prevent these men from joining our hands in cuffs and shoving us into the trunk of their van, when they discover Naomi’s stiff body wrapped in our expensive blanket imported from China. I could tell her what’s on my mind but unlike her, I haven’t mastered the art of flawlessly communicating with the eyes. Why don’t you use your father’s contact to get us out of this mess? But I knew that would be impossible, especially when it involved me. Sophia’s father, Honorable Clark Badmus, former Lagos state governor and present seating senator in the red chambers would have made these policemen scurry back to their van at just a call away. They didn’t call him the jagaban of Lagos for nothing. The man had connections at every extension. Federal, local, international, he even had the present seating governor Tope Benjamin at his toes. A man with such status, tell me, why wasn’t she calling daddy? That’s because, many years ago when Sophia took me to their family’s mansion in VI for her mother’s birthday dinner and also to officially introduce me as her boyfriend to the family, honorable Badmus had mistaken me for a clown, that had probably come to entertain the guests, not like I wore a multi-colored wig and had ridiculous make up on. I wore the Italian suit Sophia brought for me the day before, so I couldn’t tell why he was laughing so loudly that everyone at the table had to join him, excluding Sophia and I. "Laraba, tell me another joke…” He goofed again, causing another laughter around the table. "Dad, you are embarrassing my guest,” Sophia spoke with poise as ever. The intimidating presence of her father. The big man that his billboard stands tall at Ikeja bridge, that have had me staring into his non responsive big face anytime I drove past that road, couldn’t make her lose her might. "We are getting married,” She dropped this bombshell, that had me shell shocked cause I didn’t remember proposing marriage to her. The room was now quiet. I had expected another round of laughter but everyone seem shell shocked as I was. Sophia reached for my hand under the table, it was shaky and sweaty. I felt embarrassed, I needed to be just as poise as my new fiancée. "This must be another joke?” Honorable Badmus, finally broke the silence and he wasn’t laughing or goofing around this time. His face looked serious like all his political posters plastered all over Lagos. "It's not a joke Dad, we are in love and we are getting married.” For the first time, Honourable Badmus steadied his eyes on me, like he was trying to somehow find in my face, what his daughter must have seen in me to want to marry me. He couldn’t find it. "What about Senator Tamuno’s son… Solomon, I thought you were in love?” He asked, now focusing his eyes on Sophia. You could tell, this man was on the verge of losing it. For whatever other reason, he must have thought me unworthy of been his daughter’s husband, one stood out. I wasn’t from a family of elites but Solomon was. "Dad, it’s obvious you haven’t been paying attention. Solomon and I haven’t been together for two years now.” "Why?” he asked, almost in a pleading tone. "He bleeped a man Dad. Don’t you remember?” The night Sophia and I met, with the whole lips locking out of nowhere and the alert that got me all crazy and fuzzy. It was ploy to get Solomon’s attention, cause he had arrived the party with another woman, the daughter of some state commissioner. She wanted to get him jealous or give him the impression that she had moved on from their dirty break up. But this whole new information about Solomon been gay didn’t add up. She needed not to make him feel jealous, if he was into man. but I thought "But I thought you have settled that a long time ago?” Honorable Badmus, in the same almost pleading voice, asked. "What? You want me to share my husband with other Lagos men?” Honorable badmus shrugged like that wasn’t enough reason to break up an engagement. Like he was fine with his daughter been unhappy in her marriage, as far he got favors from Senator Ebiokpo Tamuno, Solomon’s father, who was the present senate president. "No marriage is perfect and beside he promised he was going to change.” "People don’t change from been that…Dad.” At this point, Honorable Badmus was tired of the back and forth. He was going to leave Sophia to her mother to speak some senses into her but for me, there was no chance in hell I was marrying his daughter. We drove from the dinner that day, listening to Sophia’s all time favorite, Jon Bellion in silence. I wanted to ask her, if the engagement announcement was a ploy to get her father vexed, cause it seemed like she derived a great deal of joy doing that but I didn’t, I let us mull over the silence and Jon Bellion’s soothing voice. Days later, I pawned my V-booth for an expensive diamond ring and officially proposed to her and she said yes. We got married at Lagos registry, with no family member either from my side or hers. Months later, we received news that her mother passed away, after fighting cancer for such a long time. We went to the funeral in matching outfit but Honorable Badmus almost gunned us down, if not for the prying eyes of other guests and flashing camera lights of newsmen. We later found out at the will reading that her mother had bequeathed her estates and a large chunk of money to Sophia, so we didn’t need Honourable Badmus to live the affluent lifestyle. l was living my best life, everything I had dreamt of. The sweet boy association lifestyle. But on a certain day everything became clearer to me why Sophia had chosen me over Solomon. I caught her in bed with her gym instructor and she urged me to join them. My Jaw dropped to the ground and I couldn’t pick it up. The life of affluence comes with a dreaded price, so as long as I enjoy it, I was to pay the price every day. I had started to hyperventilate, shaking like I was having a aeizure. This was the plan. This was how we were going to escape not searched by the police and Sophia knew it and she shrieked loudly. "Officers help, my husband is dying.” But the policemen got distracted by a pug ant stench oozing out of our trunk. ©, Gabriel Odigiri, 2020 www.thegabrielodigiristories. |

Episode 3 A lot of options danced in my head. Wrap her up in the sheets and drive all the way to bay beach and drown her corpse in the sea. Cut her into parts, small enough to flush down the toilets. Dissolve her remains with acid but that would require me driving to the store to get it and in all, it’s quite complicated. A lot of options but I needed to make one, before her body protrudes and starts to smell. Moments like this, my thinking cap came very handy but I was blank, maybe it was the drink we had earlier, I really couldn’t tell and Sophia was looking up to me very impatiently to clean up our mess "Do something Bash, don’t just stand there, staring at her... “ Sophia snapped, typical of her to want to put this on me. “I am thinking.” I snapped back. "Thinking?” She furrowed that her demon eyes brows. Just send me to hell woman. Send me… That’s my crime for marrying you. “We will have to drive all the way to bay beach,” I needed to say this really quick, so we didn’t start off with a fight and end up in cuffs in the morning. "Bay beach… For all the places in Lagos?” "What do you then suggest? Put her in a waste bin?” "That’s better than driving all the way to bay beach, risking the police pulling us over.” God… If you know Sophia like I do. She’s just your perfect definition of a pain in the ass. The actual ass. I was scared like shit here, standing over a dead girl. Not just any dead girl. The red girl I was just intimate with a couple of minutes ago and I was suppose to just throw her into a garbage bag and send her off to olusosun dump site. I know I am cold sometimes but Sophia is antarctica kind of colder. "Say something Bash. I think she’s starting to smell.” The red girl was the third girl in our dead by accident list but by this time and I was not about to convince myself again that this wasn’t premeditated by Sophia. The first girl. Naomi, if that was her real name. We met on one of our trips to Dubai. Beautiful with a perfectly sculpted body. I am talking plastic surgery sculpted. Ultimate light skin with an imported accent. British or whatever but she’s a south-south girl, calabar precisely. I took a photo of her riding on a horse in the desert and she thanked me with an embrace, rubbing her full breast over my chest. We could have left her, riding away into the sunset but Sophia grew a rather odd liking for her and when we later got to find out she was Nigerian that sealed it up. We went almost everywhere with her. Took pictures to last a life time everywhere. Went to night clubs and stayed up till morning. Crashed on the sofa in our hotel room. I teasingly named her our adopted sister. Then, she let me have a view of her black hard nipples, leaving the bathroom for our room, baring her breast as a trap for me and I couldn’t go to sleep that night, stayed up dreaming about her breasts. We couldn’t make a move at her in Dubai, cause we feared it could be illegal, not like worse things don’t happen over there but just so we were not about to violate some moral codes. We left her behind in Dubai, she was to meet up with her friends coming from South Africa or so but she promised to find us once she arrive Lagos. I think it was about six month later when Sophia informed me that she called and was coming over that weekend. I fantasized about the many things I would do to that breasts of hers but she didn’t show up that weekend or the weekend after that and we gave up. Then one Friday night when Sophia and I were huddled up on a couch, watching on TV, a Mexican house wife turned mob-queen extract the penis of her cheating husband, Naomi called that her uber guy just dropped her off in our estate but she forgot our house number. I picked her up at the gate and we kicked off from there. She asked why I never made a move on her in Dubai when it was so obvious I was dying to bend her over and beat up her bare flesh in every direction the room would allow. I laughed, trying to avoid answering. "Was it because of your wife?” She asked. "Well, yeah…” I lied. "Too bad cause she was having her own fun under your nose.” I halted for a moment for some explanation. What she meant by her own fun under your nose? But Naomi had suddenly turned mute. "I don’t want to come between you two.” "You are already between us…” She took her time. Some not very served theatrics. Beat. Beat. I knew she was eager to serve me this hot disclosure. "I caught her in the ladies’ with this Arabian man, trapped in between her legs, five minutes straight.” But she never told me. We went on the trip, fantasizing about having a party with either an Arabian woman or man. Favorably, a woman, looking like a model out of a banned x-rated Dubai magazine and she went on and had it with an Arabian man and never told me? I tried not to wear it on my face that I didn’t know. Didn’t want to give Naomi the ground to divide us. Maybe Sophia had her reason for not telling me or this was all a cooked up lie by the woman we were about to let into our home. Sophia and Naomi hugged like long lost sisters when we got home. We later had a bottle of wine and Naomi introduced us to this game where we impersonate celebrities and the others had to guess who it was. And then into the room. We finally had the party. This was the first time, I saw Sophia kiss another woman. I never pegged her for a bi when I saw in that party in VI and made it my life mission to get her to fall in love with me. That’s a story for another time. Two naked ladies all for me. One my wife, the other the lady we met on a trip. No divide. Just for that gratification and sexual fantasies and when it was all done, I felt it in my gut that I was no longer that boy brought up in a catholic home to refrain from sexual perversion or incur the punishment from Sodom and Gomorrah. I was a man in a picture perfect marriage and many dirty skeletons in the cupboard. I left them for the living room to crash and got woken by the sound of a scream in the middle of the night. Ran upstairs to find Naomi lifeless on the floor with her neck twisted and her eyes open and staring blankly at me. “Sophia, what have you done?” In Sophia’s defense, she caught her trying to steal her gold but it was all an accident. We rolled her up in a blanket and drove that night, with her corpse in the trunk and got pulled over by police men on night duty and there I concluded that Sophia would be the death of me. ©Gabriel, Odigiri. 2020 www.thegabrielodigiristories. |
