(WJW) — A 2-year-old took life into her own hands recently when a snake bit into her lip.

Rather than letting the reptile get the best of her, the child bit back, killing the animal, Newsweek reported.

Neighbors in the small village near Bingol, Turkey, reportedly heard the child screaming in her backyard during the attack on Aug. 10. Running to her aid, they found a 20-inch snake in her teeth and a bite mark on her mouth.

Newsweek said the child is recovering well after a 24-hour stint in the hospital. Her father told news outlets she had been playing with the snake prior to the bite.

The kind of snake involved in the incident is unknown at this time but there are 12 types of venomous snakes found in the country. The World Health Organization says venomous snake bites can affect children much more quickly than adults.

UPPER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania -- A Pennsylvania man has died following an incident last week where his pet snake wrapped around his neck, leading an officer to shoot the reptile.

Elliot Senseman, 27, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest on Sunday morning, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.

Officials said Senseman died from anoxic brain injury due to asphyxiation by constriction. The coroner's office said the manner of death was an accident.

Police were called to Senseman's home around 2:12 p.m. last Wednesday.

When they arrived, a family member led them to Senseman, who was lying on the floor unresponsive with an 18-foot snake wrapped around his neck.

The coroner's office said it was a boa constrictor-type snake.

One of the responding officers was able to fatally shoot the snake without injuring the man.

"Because the snake was so large, the midsection of the snake was wrapped around the throat. The head of the snake was just far enough away from the victim that the officer made a split-second decision and he proceeded to shoot the snake in the head," said Lt. Peter Nickischer with the Upper Macungie Township Police Department.

Former Nigeria’s deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice will appear in a court in the UK later on Thursday.

Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been formally charged with conspiracy to facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting, London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

They were taken into custody after an investigation by police, which had been alerted in May 2022 to potential offences under modern slavery legislation.

The Nigerian Senate, which Ekweremadu is still a member, said it will work with Nigeria’s High Commission in the UK to hire a lawyer for his defence.
