1.5 - 2ml of lime juice to 2litter of their water for five days.

And 5ml of Tridex juice to 2litter of water for five days

If you remove the mucus and inject line juice and the eyes is still swellon the next day ,that means mucus is still remaining inside so you have to open the eyes and remove the mucus again and make sure non is remaining then inject line juice again

Am taking from experience , am a noiler breeder. I keeps noilers , get their fertile eggs and hatch to produce noiler chicks

Your birds are suffering from pox and coryzer

You have to treat each infection one after the other

For coryzer : swellon and watery eyes, open the eyes you will see a white mucus , so remove it and make sure non remain inside and put drop of lime juice into the eyes and , and 1.5 to 2ml of line juice into their water for five days.

For fowl pox : wounds (pox) on the head and face. Clean the spot with lime and apply PKC oil of Jelu on the surface . Get Tridex leave extract and apply the juice 2ml to their water for 5days.

After the first treatment, give them clean water at day six to clear the system and commence the next treatment at day seven. Then give good multivitamins after all the treatment, to help them recover fast

See below for attach picture of Tridex , it's a weed you find it everywhere and people also use it to feed rabbit

Good day everyone

@Azarina thanks for your comments, am looking forward to hatching broiler and turkey, but have not think about the market of other birds, it's a good idea so think this is an opportunity for me to explore more.

Yes ,I will not be reluctant to build for other people on request but maybe it will not be free, and I will also be available to guide anyone that is interested to build its own for free.

I had wiring part is 90% complete what remain is the thermostat to regulate the heat automatically, I do it get this in Nigeria, so I want to other on jumia , it's coming from outside Nigeria and it's going to take months before arrival , not certain but this covid-19 has affected import.

Presently, am doing the test running of the temprature and humidity to know how to make it work for us perfectly,I will post picture below, we have 3bolb as the source of heat 2 100watt and 1 60watt, so making it 260watt together. There are two fan above the lights which is extracting the heat and circulating it in the box, the fan is powered with solar and battery, it uses solar in the day and also the solar chargers the battery, so in the night in absent of sunlight it uses the battery. There is cup of water in the box for humidity

I discovered Challenges during this test run, the first is the battery do low and unable to power the fan before the day break , it do go off around 5am-6am . So am looking forward to adding one additional battery as backup, and also power the fan with both electricity and solar, so we can save the battery power when there is light, another option I thought of is using one fan in the night because the normal night temporary is cool and not like day time, so I feel one fan can work for the night to save the battery.

Will post the thermometer am using Presently, but I want to get another one that has sensor and also display that I will keep outside the box and measure the heat inside, so will not need to be opening the box always

I will keep giving update till we get it right and will update when we finally hatch our chicks from this homemade incubator, but am 100% positive because it has work for some people this way before and even presently.

Good morning everyone And Happy weekend

I want to share with us the dual purpose incubator am constructing . Am done with the building, so remain the electrical part.

It's dual purpose because it will be powered with both electric power and lantern. And it's going to be semi-authomatic because we will fix thermostat to regulate the themprature , the themprature will be within 36.5-37.5 c and 98.5f so when it get beyond the system will go off and when it get Bellow it will on. I will also keep in the digital thermometer to regulate the themprature. And am going to fix fan in there to circulate the heat, am going to power the fan also with solar to it can circulate the lantern heat when there is no electricity.

The electric bolb ,fan lantern will be under the box together with bowl of water for humidity, so the heat is coming from the down and there is small hole at the top of the box to discharge the excessive heat.

The incubator is expected to be around 1200-1500 chicken egg capacity. My birds will start laying soon so am preparing this to hatch there eggs, though my chicken are not going to produce the much egg but it's part of our plan for the future.

You can do it if you believe , I will build my own Soon, if you can wait I will share. There is one farmer youtube channel that I use to watch (Dextoworld) , he build a semi-authomatic with a thermostat that control the heat , and he place thermometer to measure the heat just as we do in brooding room.

Someone on this thread as shared a success story of carton incubator he build , I think that is what inspired me to do more research about incubator. If you search video of incubator on YouTube you will find one simple one you will able to do yourself.

I will also share my story soon , and am sure is going to be a success story too

@Redomi, I believeyou can build your incubator yourself, search Google for homemade incubator for idea , what egg needs is certain amount of heat to hatch .

I have plan for building one for my production when my noilers start laying, they are 4 month plus now .

Thanks for your response @nativechicken,i typeed error in the first post, what u want to say is noiler x fullani not broiler, I think to breed broiler one needs to get the parent stock

@Keycino, at what age do your noiler start laying?
Agriculture / Re: My Pet Project: Is It Economically Feasible To Rear Local Chickens Commercially? by GafarOlatunji: 6:23am On Nov 11, 2020
Good day everyone

@native chicken, if I may ask, do boiler x fullani do better than pure noiler? , or maybe your feeding parten is good, can you share how you feeding them? , do you free range of cage? .

My pure noilers are in there 16 weeks now and the biggest rooster is just 2kg, their average weight is 1.7kg and the smallest is still 1.3kg, am free ranging, and feeding morning and evening, simulated feeds in the morning and kitchen waste in evening , sometimes I feed them waste fruit in afternoon if available.

Agriculture / Re: Turkey, broilers And Noiler by GafarOlatunji: 10:36am On Oct 20, 2020
Op, you do not respond to my question? , what broiler you are using for your breeding, do you get the special parent stock or you using the normal noiler they sell around?
Agriculture / Re: PLEASE HELP THIS TURKEY by GafarOlatunji: 7:17pm On Oct 17, 2020
OP, open the eyes and press the white mucus out, get lime inject the juice into the eyes and also but in the water for five days......

Note : Make sure no mucus remain in the eyes, if the eyes remain swelling the folli g that means the mucus still remain in the eye, so locate and remove until nothing remain gradually the bed will return to normal .......Pls, don't give the bird antibiotic because the bird is stress and antibiotics will stress it more.

This is coryzer, you can go to vet shop around and get medication for coryzer if you do not prefer organic, but you must get the mucus out before the bird will get back to normal

Good day everyone

Today makes it day four of tridax procumberance treatment for fowl pox, it's a success news I will say because the total birds are 21 and all are affected due to late isolation, only 3 birds remain sick yet, and on of them is almost out because everything looks dry but I want it try more before I remove the the dark dirty that covers the wound .

The remaining sick birds not showing sign of improvement yet , the eyes are still watering, I clean it everyday and remove mucus, am thinking maybe I will go back to coryzer treatment for this birds from tomorrow.

Some multivitamins will be necessary from after tomorrow to rest their system from stress of sickness and medication......can anyone please recommend organic multivitamins?

Good Morning All

@Wisdomline , the process is by trying to open the eyes gently and locate the mucus ,and gentle press and remove it, and make sure non is left in the eye....This is why all of my isolated birds are not fine yet, when I remove the mucus some still remain inside and I do not see it probably some of the swallon place are not soft/ripe at the time, so the following day if I see watery eyes I check the bird eyes again and remove the remaining, once everything is remove the birds watering eyes will stop in short time.

@Azarina, Thanks for putting more light , everything started with pox , and I had been applying (jelu) and later palm canel oil....and the first two affected birds got better, but I do not isolate while treating them. Isolation is very important and will not do the mistake again.

I got the weed this morning and I had apply as prescribed but I do not apply pko as am rushing to work this morning but I will do later in the day, and I will report the outcome also

Good Day Everyone

I want to appreciate everyone's in this thread, and more appreciation to every contributors in this group...May God increase us all.

Big thanks to Azarina and Jidestroud for coming to I and my chick rescue , I mean from saving us from disaster of corrizer .

I removed the mucus and injected lime juice as prescribed, and repeat same thing everyday this is day four and I had free 3 out of eight birds in isolation, and the others are also improving. I will say this organic treatment of lime work fine for corrizer..

Tomorrow is day five of treatment, can I continue with the treatment after tomorrow if am not satisfy with situations of other in isolation?

This is one of the sick bed, and it's the most affected , I thought the eyes has spoiled before start of lime treatment, because it real swell and blocked

I forgot to include the bio security measures so far, I washed my brooding cage 3weeks before arrival and apply some kerosine, when I noticed the blood poo I wash the cage again and apply kerosene and also put wood shavings, meanwhile I do not apply wood shavings until I notice the strange poo, but I clean the cage every morning .

Good day everyone, I will say big thanks for everyone for the big share knowledge in this thread, and also to our Oga’s For there continues efforts in research making and helping others.

@native chicken, please, how do you make your organic calcium and multivitamins?

I got 15 noilers and they are of 9 days today and I wish to strict all medications to organic.

Treatment so far, glucose for the first two days, to relax there system from transportation stress, neem leave extract in day 3/5 as antibacterial to treat them with any infection they may have come with, ordinary clean water again at day 6, day 7 I noticed bloody and brown poo , I administered bitter leave, saint leave extract , ginger, garlic, dried pepper and aloe Vera extract.....situation is normal now, but am thinking either to continue this medication until 5days or to stop today after 3rd day, I had prepared tagiri , garlic , ginger extract about 3weeks before their arrival as remedy for vaccination. I feel they need some multivitamin to easy them of previous medications so they will not get too stress, and also some calcium will be good too, but I feed them formulated feeds only , Am not sure if the calcium in the feeds is enough for now? .

Please, what am I doing wrong? , hope fear of losing any birds is making me to over medicate them? . Yes 2 of the birds looks week since arrival and not eating like others, but I noticed some changes in them today but yet they are not strong like others and still cannot rush feeds like others..... what can I do?

@ Farouq94 Thank you so much for bringing this type of thread to life , this is more than a thread is more of school, because me personally am learning a lot from here, and this is also giving courage to push more on my project.

Yes your previous answer to my question answered exactly what I want to know.

Thanks for sharing the process of your incubator and the egg, am eager to hear more. And want to to more about incubator and hatching of egg, other people that know more about this should kindly share.

Medication is another important aspect in poultry management, yes local birds are resistance to diseases but yet they sick sometimes. As for me I had notice blood stain in my chick poo , i think it’s sign of cocidioses , another thing that has happened to me swelling of eyes and raches around the eye.

For the blood stain poo , I treated with saint leave, bitter leave extract, pepper, ginger and garlic, I pounded pepper, garlic and ginger together and mix with the extracted leaves and it work, for the swelling eyes, I clean the surface with spirit and apply injection powder, and also give the above mixture as antibiotics, the swelling eyes treatment is still in progress but seems is working. Please, I personally needs more light on possible diseases and treat to save investment.

@ Faroe, thanks for the encouragement.... Yes I will work on your advice, I will stop getting more for now and see how it goes with the one I already have, I do not think your way before, each of the nest are big enough to accommodate like 3 mature hen so I thought it’s possible they share the nest , I never think of possibility of them laying at same time, this is a good advice, thanks for sharing .

Pls, How do you feed your chick ? , as for me I feed them formulated feeds, stater for now, because the older ones in the picture are six weeks plus, while the remaining are 3&1 weeks,I give them little in the morning and also in the evening, I use my hand for measurement so I give two in the morning and allow them to free range and search for the remaining on there own, and one in the evening before they go back to rest in their nest. I Think this is important in poultry management to achieve good productivity.

I got my chicks from my mother in-law, she is rearing chicken so since I show interest, whenever her hen hatch she will call me to come and pick them up.

If I may ask, how do you get your local incubator, this is a good technology, I will love to have one too when it’s necessary. Do you get someone build it for you or you bought it ? How much dose it cost? , what are your experience so far with it ?.

Thanks and have a nice time, looking forward to read from you soon.

I love this your thread sir, am a chicken lover and like to keep them and like to spend time around with them.

Am a poultry farmer, I had try layer and it was successful. Since November last year I had been wanting to venture into this local chicken, I have been searching for land to rent here in ilorin, I got one but not fence thinking of doing bamboo fence but finance is holding be back. My strong passion for this project is not making me rest since it’s not achieve yet. This year mid May I decided to start with what I have , so I got a carton and six chicks and Started from my dinning room , I got more chicks so I have 13 now and I also got them cage and keep them in my backyard this month. I hope to get bigger farm before they become plenty.

Am skeptical about the duration of local birds maturity and the wight they achieve for business purpose,I think it will be nice if I can get a way to improve their weight to get more income so to complement the time and effort.

I will like this foreign birds for cross breeding too. I was thinking of crossing noiler with local chicken, but now I will not mind this Brahma too , and if their are other you can recommend too. Please, can you drop you contact so I can had you on WhatsApp .

Am unable to upload enough pictures, maybe I will try one after the other. Thanks
