Nigerians are set to enjoy more hours of electricity per day as the national grid transmission has gone up by another 111 megawatts in two days. The management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Thursday announced that the transmission had recorded another peak of 4656mw – a few days after hit a record 4545mw. According to Seun Olagunju, general manager, public affairs of TCN, the new peak was attained at 10pm on Wednesday. On Monday, the TCN management had announced the attainment of 4545MW peak transmission in the national grid. The previous record peak power transmission was 4517MW attained on December 23, 2012. “Power generation and transmission have been above 4000MW following improvements in gas supply to the generating stations as well as equipment/infra-structure upgrade and enhanced human capacity of system operators,” Olagunju explained. “TCN assures that it would continue to work at enhancing the capacity to transmit more quality power to the distribution companies.”

The President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has said that he is willing to work with any leader of the Senate, irrespective of what part of the country he or she originates from.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, May 13, Mr. Buhari described as false, insinuations in the media that he was in support of any particular Senator’s emergence as Leader or that he belonged to any camp pushing for the emergence of a leader from a particular part of the country.
“I am prepared to work with any leaders that the House or Senate selects,” Mr. Buhari said. “It doesn’t matter who the person is or where he or she is from.”
He added that the insinuations were probably born out of people’s expectations based on the way things had happened in the past, but reminded Nigerians that CHANGE had truly come.
“There is due process for the selection of leaders of the National Assembly,” Mr. Buhari said, “and I will not interfere in that process.”
Mr. Buhari added that the media and the public should begin to get used to no more “business as usual”.
“Nigeria has indeed entered a new dispensation,” he said. “My administration does not intend to repeat the same mistakes made by previous governments.”
