Travel / Re: Don't Travel To The UK: No Jobs Anymore by Garuba(m): 8:41pm On Aug 09, 2006
@ Osteen

I live in Canada. The french here sucks because it is bush french kinna like Franglais.

Getting a job in Canada is quite difficult because this country has a lot of specialized skilled areas, you can't work here illegally under any circumstance, if you're caught you will be thrown out. The people that will catch you are the Tax people (I work for them tongue) and they are merciless if you haven't been paying taxes.

Romance / Re: Is This How To Ask A Girl Out? by Garuba(m): 9:05pm On Jul 10, 2006
davidylan:

Not a line that should grab the attention of a "prim and proper" lady. As for getting into his car on the first meet (not even first date?), she just cheapened herself. No serious girl will allow you drop her off in front of her house (so you can know the place!)

I agree with the cheapening. I wouldn't fancy a girl who just automatically accepts any proposal of mine on the first instance. I think a man should work to get a lady and just be yourself with no ficticious lines floating all over the place
Business / New Nitel Website by Garuba(m): 6:16pm On Jul 07, 2006
Well congratulations to Transcorp for purchasing Nitel. I'm sure that they will immediately begin revamping the company. One of the things they will need is a new website because frankly http://www.nitelnet.com sucks.

My question is to all those that are webdesigners or run webdesign firms. Do you think, if given the opportunity, that you can redesign the Nitel website and turn it into something spectacular and on par with international utility firm website standards? If so gladly share how or what you would do and if possible show a sample.

We can even turn the samples into a contest and see whos concept wins!!

Webmasters / Re: The Best Way To Bill Your Client For Your Website Design Jobs by Garuba(m): 6:04pm On Jul 07, 2006
Before you bill a client, you should know what your fixed unit costs are for any kind of job. This will be sort of your minimum rates. Then create prices for specific tasks i.e. $30/page or something like that. Then you will have to come up with prices for the custom work that will be done. Those are variable costs that you cannot price right away. You have to consult with the client, figure out what they need, go back to the office, and work out how much its going to cost you to get it done. After that you add your markup (profit) then send a final figure to the client.

Thats just a basic way of billing. It requires more details than that but at least you can get started this way.
Business / Re: NITEL Privatised: Bought By Transcorp by Garuba(m): 5:24pm On Jul 07, 2006
I will also be acquiring Transcorp shares. With the purchase of Nitel you can expect the IPO to be higer than N10/share. and will rise exponentially over a short period of time.

However, I believe that Nitel was bought for chicken change. It was grossly undervalued at $750m for 75% of the company. Please. A company like that is easily worth about $2b for 50%.
Car Talk / Re: Abuja Car Race by Garuba(m): 4:31pm On Jul 07, 2006
I've always wanted to do that. Like, organize a race similar to nascar or formula 1 racing. Would be so sweet. or even have an exclusive club for people with sports cars (porsches, SL500s, mustangs) to come race in a tournament and win money/trophies.

Coolness grin

Business / Re: NITEL Privatised: Bought By Transcorp by Garuba(m): 6:10pm On Jul 06, 2006
Look people, whether you choose to believe it or not, Obasanjo has a significant stake in Transcorp and it is appalling that in a society that claims to be democratic that a president will get involved in any aspect of private business with no regards for conflict of interest.

In well run democracies, presidents/prime ministers are forced to denounce any ties or relations to the business world so as to ensure free and fair governance. Here in Canada our former prime minister Paul Martin when he came in to power was instructed by parliament to divest himself from his shipping mogul of a company and sell off his controlling shares in the company which he did.

What Obasanjo and his kronies are trying to do is to have a hand in every area of the country so they can control the country and money will be flowing into thier pockets "legitimately" through "stategic investments". Its the new wave of political/"agabada collar" crime to milk starving citizens of Nigeria. For participating in such schemes he and his people should be tied up and put into a small oil tanker filled with oil, shipped out into the atlantic and blown up. Or lightning should strike em all dead in the heat of thier supposed successes.

How is it possible that they can acquire a company like Nitel that has been around for eons for a mere $750m. I mean that is such an undervalued price. When transcorp sells the company to another investor within a short period of time, they will make an insane profit far and above whatever they are going to spend to fix the company up.

God help us. God help us all.

Education / Re: GRE And Universities In Canada by Garuba(m): 7:38pm On Jul 04, 2006
kbayo:

Please can anybody help me with the importance of GRE in applying to Canadian Universities. I have a score of 1270 in GRE and 273 in TOEFL. I am of the opinion that the GRE score is low. Should I go to with my application? University of Toronto and Waterloo are my picks for MSc in Biomedical Engineering.

For University of Toronto, GRE scores are not required but will be considered if submitted. For TOEFL taken in a computer based TOEFL the minimum score is 237, and 580 taken otherwise. You also need to score a minimum of 4.0 on a TWE (test of written english) or 7.0 on IELTS (International english language testing system), These are only required if english is NOT your first language. Coming from Nigeria that should not be a problem. You also need a minimum of a UofT B+ equivalent average in your last two years of undergrad. Coming from Nigeria you need to graduate with a 2nd class upper.

Hope that helps

Autos / Re: Good Bye To Molues And Danfos by Garuba(m): 4:03pm On Jun 22, 2006
What I would do if I was running a transit company is hire the molue and danfo bus drivers and train them all as drivers for my new buses. Each bus would be equipped with one driver and maximum 2 conductors. They will all be skilled in driving the buses and some will be trained on the engineering so they can perform repairs, maintenance and troubleshooting.

I was actually thinking of starting a company like that but man the money required is quite a lot. I would need some serious venture capital.
Webmasters / Re: New Website For The Critics by Garuba(m): 5:46pm On Jun 21, 2006
Here are a few things I think need to be worked on:

1. the menu bar needs to be changed, those rounded edges are not professional especially for the type of company
2. Use more of a white background for the main pages. It makes it easier to read
3. Use pictures with a better resolution so they dont look jagged when stretched. The pictures in the header are greatly suffering from severe antialiasing issues
4. Reduce the size of those logo bullets. It seems that they are the focus of attention instead of the text beside them
5. Keep fonts and font sizes consistent
6. I think the different seminars/programs that this company has should be grouped under one page. This will allow for a smoother tree structure
7. The Flash logo should only be on the first page. It shouldn't have to reload on every new page
8. Keep the entire website consistent interms of viewing resolution. If you look at some business websites, they are usually centered so that they look the same on any size screen.
9. Design a more consistent logo because the one on the splash page, im sorry to say, doesn't quite cut it.

I hope these help. Sorry if they sound harsh and direct

I like food, I like good food, I like good home cooked food, I like a woman that can cook good home cooked food, I like a woman that is creative with her good home cooked food, I can cook some good food, but I'm lazy and not creative, my specialty is making money to support the woman that can cook good food after she gets back from work (if she decides to work at all), tongue,

Ladies please learn to cook good food for your men. It will keep them at home in the sense that they will not be galivanting around town lookin for whose house to chop from today, it could be his friend's wife is the better cook and as a result u dont see ur own husband during the crucial time of the day, then argument starts when oga returns home.

Yeah I do, We're into realestate which i predict is going to become a very lucrative commodity within the next 7-15years. Also with the Nigerian government trying to shift focus to non-oil industries for export I believe investing in companies that deal in such areas is a good long term approach. I'm young, i got nothing to lose tongue

Ottawa is as good as ottawa can get wink. Currently workin for the government at Canada Revenue Agency, God! Tax system in this country is insane
