The Global Fund, an International Financing Organisation, has announced an additional humanitarian grant of 660 million dollars to tackle HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria epidemic in Nigeria.

Its Executive Director, Mr Peter Sands, announced this at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

Sands noted that the grant was expected to last for a three-year period to include more people on the treatment of the diseases.

“Nigeria has remained a country in which Global Fund had invested tremendously in the past because of its highest burden of Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS.

“We have invested about 2.6 billion dollars to tackle these epidemics in the past and we intend to do more to get more people on treatment.

We appreciate the hard work in the outcome of the partnership between the government and global fund but we believe that we still have a lot of work to do.

“For HIV and AIDS, we want more people on treatment; we also want to prevent mother-to-child transmission.

“We also want to reduce malaria related deaths and we want to ensure that the percentage of people on tuberculosis treatment increases.

“Above all, we will like to see a return on our investments,” he said.

The Director-General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr Sani Aliyu, appreciated the continuous support of Global Fund in the healthcare sector of the country.

Aliyu noted that the country would have continued to struggle to deliver quality healthcare services without the support of Global Fund.

Robotic technology however can help reduce the amount of waste created because of its ability to ensure accuracy and precision. An investment in this technology, like 3D printers for example, may be a daunting task for many businesses. In the long run however, reduced waste and standardized materials will positively impact profitability.

Automated Technology

One of the uses of robotics is to allow for greater automation in various processes. In many aspects of construction, specifically manufacturing, packing and building, automating these processes is becoming the goal. Ensure that community leaders and beneficiaries are actively participating in all project and M&E activities.

Area 51


Otherwise referred to as the Groom Lake. Area 51 is arguably one of the most secretive places on earth. The United States Air Force base’s purpose remains unknown to the public, leading to wild speculations and conspiracy theories.

It is commonly thought that top-secret aircraft and weapons technologies have been developed and tested in Area 51 since the facility was established by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 1955. Others believe the area houses UFOs and that aliens are being held captive there.

Although Area 51 was never declared a secret base, it took until 2005 for the U.S. government to publicly acknowledge its existence. Access to the area around Groom Lake, controlled by surveillance and motion sensors, is off-limits to civilians and the airspace above is a no-fly zone for commercial aircraft.

Club 33

The secret feature of the theme park, Club 33, is an invitation-only private club that was first opened in 1967. Located at the intersection of Royal Street and Orleans Street in New Orleans Square, Club 33 was intended as a place to host dignitaries, investors, and celebrities.

The waiting list for membership is several years long and after an initiation fee (rumored to be between $25,000 and $100,000), members pay an annual fee of $12,000. In exchange, members have access to two dining halls, VIP cards, valet parking, jazz lounge Le Salon Nouveau, and the 1901 Lounge in Disney California Adventure, the only place that serves alcohol in Disneyland.

The Lascaux Caves

Location: France.
The world famous cave of Lascaux are found in every history book thanks to their more than 17,000-year-old paintings of humans and animals. Clearly visible in the over 600 works of art that adorn the complex of caves in southwesternFrance are aurochs, horses, deer, and plants corresponding to fossil records from the Upper Paleolithic period.

Although named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, the caves have not been accessible since 1963. After opening them to the public after WWII, the presence of visitors and influx of light created a number of problems like the growth of lichen, crystals, microbes, and fungi, forcing a permanent closure to preserve the site.

North Sentinel Island

Location: Andaman Island in India.

Against all odds, Tracey Britten conceived at the age of 50 and has carried for 30 weeks. In November, she’ll make history as Britain’s oldest mother of quadruplets once she’s given birth.

Due to her age, Mrs. Britten needed fertility treatment to increase her chances of falling pregnant. Along with her husband, Stephen, the pair opted to have her eggs extracted at the Kolan British IVF Centre in Cyprus.

After fertilisation, the embryos were then implanted back into her womb. Her alibi for the trip was that it was a much needed vacation but their sole purpose was to undergo the treatment.

Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process. Listening is key to all effective communication. Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily misunderstood.

It is probably one of the most underrated leadership and business skills. We all know listening is a critical component of our work, but not everyone invests the time necessary to become a better listener.

Even when we work to become better listeners, we live in an age of perpetual distractions. From ever-growing to-do lists to a burning desire to remain relevant to social media and advances in technology, there are myriad factors that make deep listening a challenge.

When I was coming of age, the only advice doled out about listening was to make good eye contact with the speaker and lean in. The thinking was that leaning in while a person was speaking would enhance understanding and give the impression that you were practicing deep listening.

This is a key component of active listening. When you listen with the intention to understand, you listen with an open-mind, versus a prejudged conclusion.

Listening with the intention to understand means going into a conversation with a genuine interest in grasping what the speaker is communicating and being mindful to take in all cues from the conversation, such as verbal, nonverbal and what is spoken openly versus left unsaid.

Process what you’ve heard.
Processing what you are hearing is all about asking yourself whether your own perspective is unduly shaping what the other person is saying. It is about being honest enough to know whether you are adding context to what someone else is communicating.

Repeat back.
Just because two people are in a conversation does not mean both parties hear the same thing. We each bring our own weltanschauung, which is German for “world view,” to conversations, and this shapes what and how we hear.

If you are a manager, you have likely been in a situation where you assign a project to an employee and anticipate its completion. Once finished, you are mystified to learn that your employee did an excellent job on something you never requested or needed.
Repeat backs are an excellent tool to enhance understanding, communicate your interest in the person speaking and ensure that you heard what the other person intended.

Repeat backs work best in one-on-one or small group discussions. If you’re in a lecture or a large event, you may not have the opportunity to repeat back what you have heard. However, if you’re in a work setting or meeting with a family member or friend, practice repeating back what you have heard and asking the speaker if you correctly captured what he or she said.

According to reports, the young man was caught in the act, stealing female panties on the campus of his school, Midlands State University.

He ran out of luck when two female students saw him carrying out the weird theft and reported him. The police was immediately involved and further search in his apartment revealed he was a hoarder of stolen female underwear.

Today, the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has decided to file a criminal case against DAILY NIGERIAN and its publisher, Jaafar Jaafar, for defamation of character.

Earlier yesterday, the newspaper published exclusive video showing Mr Ganduje receiving bribe from a contractor.

The video, which generated public rebuke, has been authenticated by graphic experts before publishing by the newspaper.

In a statement by the state commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, the government debunked the allegation, saying the video was “cloned” to implicate the governor in the bribery scandal.

TI is calling on young people across the globe to join the anti-corruption movement and be a source of inspiration in the fight against corruption. The innovative drive of young people advocating for fairer and more equal societies around the world can be a huge asset to our growing movement. Now is the time to end corruption.

In light of Transparency International’s 25th anniversary and the International Anti-Corruption Day on 9thDecember 2018, TI is collaborating with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to honour young people from all over the world who challenge corruption through their innovative and inspiring ideas.

People between the age of 18 and 35 are invited to submit a short video clip presenting their idea on new ways to fight corruption.
The FutureAgainstCorruption Award may be conferred to activists from all walks of life. Three Finalists will be selected out of the submitted entries by the general public as well as the FutureAgainstCorruption Award Committee. In choosing the recipients, the need to recognise efforts in diverse fields of civil society and the acknowledgement of anti-corruption initiatives throughout the world will be taken into consideration. The competition will consist of two entry streams: Global and Africa. Two Award recipients will be selected from the global stream and one from the African stream.

The three finalists will be invited to Berlin during the International Anti-Corruption Day festivities to be awarded with the FutureAgainstCorruption Award and to participate at a public ceremony, hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Transparency International. They will have the opportunity to present and discuss their ideas with anti-corruption experts from the German government, Transparency International and representatives from anti-corruption organisations and the media.

• To expose young professionals to an administrative working environment, and;
