.. another word for pot-hole filling.. anyway it is better than chasing burly danfo drivers

Unfortunately, pot-hole filling has become very important in a State like Lagos because local government roads are usually never constructed to a high standard of quality and durability. This is self-defeatist false economy in reality because heavier than normal use of roads, due to very high population density, means that roads must be extra tough in Lagos to begin with.

LAGOS REHABILITATES 282 ROADS IN SIX MONTHS

Posted on: 2015-11-24 00:00:00

…Earmarks 189 Roads For Next Phase

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said that over 282 roads have been rehabilitated in the last six months, just as it assured residents that the ongoing construction across the metropolis will be completed in due course.

General Manager of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC), Engr. Ayotunde Sodeinde gave the assurance on Tuesday while briefing newsmen on the work done so far said that the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode’s desire is to see that the roads across the state are motorable.

“We have done 282 roads since June 2015 till date. We have listed another 189 roads and anytime from now we would start. We would work every day and night to ensure we make life more comfortable for residents in the state”, he said.

He listed some of the roads completed and fully rehabilitated to include Metal Box Road, Acme Road inward Akilo, Ejigbo-Ikotun road among others while extensive fixing of potholes were also carried out on other roads. He also listed some roads such as Alfa Nla/Capitol road in Agege, Brown Street in Oshodi, Okota road in Isolo as some of the roads under construction.

“Metal Box Road and Acme Road are special projects, they are not routine projects that we do. The routine projects are like 280. If I start to mention all of them, it would take a lot of time. We are doing the second asphalting on Ejigbo, the place is quite motorable now. We had finished that Ikotun Ijegun. Why I said it is 85 percent completed is because of the drainage system”.

Sodeinde said the rehabilitation of these roads has to a large extent reduced the traffic congestion in the last three weeks, saying that the Public Works gangs are on the road day and night to give the roads a facelift.

“The Governor is not sitting down, he wants all the roads in Lagos to be motorable. He wants the hard life that Lagosians are going through to be alleviated. He cannot stand Lagosians going through hardship and most of these roads”.

“People are testifying now that the traffic is moving. You know when the roads are good, it means economic growth, people will be able to move from one part of the state to another, transport their goods without stress, you will notice that even the hoodlums and pickpockets, they operate when there is gridlock, as far as gridlock that is being caused by potholes are concerned, we are on our feet to ensure that we put the road in order to reduce the traffic.

He assured that by the end of December, the LSPWC would have rehabilitated more roads across the state.

He said the ongoing rehabilitation works have also seen the repair of 117 federal government roads in the state, adding that if funds are available, more roads will be fixed.

Also speaking, Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde said in continuation of the government’s effort to fix the roads, the Governor approved the award of 114 roads, two from each of the 57 local governments across the state.

He also assured Lagosians that the process or road rehabilitation and reconstruction is continuous and more roads will be rehabilitated in the next quarter.

“All these roads which would be done by the local government will come with standard drainage system, walk ways and street lights. The state government had nothing to do with choosing the contractors, the local governments have been mandated to do that and this will create jobs within each local government”, Ayorinde said.

Ubah the charlatan can only fool the gullible. He is one of the crooks, like Dasuki, Allison-Madueke, Otedola, Maina et al, who benefitted from the slackness and corrupt backbone GEJ operated with. This is why this fake patriot bankrolled and led TAN with the hope GEJ would get a second term so the looting can continue.

His time will come when PMB initiates a probe of the fuel subsidy scam they used to cart away billions of dollars belonging to Nigeria.. Until then let him continue forming "patriotic Nigerian". Intelligent and aware Nigerians are not fooled. We know Ubah, Otedola et al fall firmly into the category of AGIP (any government in power) and enemy of Nigeria.

Some of us are now vindicated. We warned that everything GEJ and his associates were doing, including the $1 billion 'midnight' loan, would be exposed as fraudulent after the PDP is defeated. The deceit, lack of transparency and scamming nature of the GEJ government is just puke-inducing. Now they are even saying it is unclear whether the $1 billion was released of not. Anyway, those of us who saw this coming and even predicted it are enjoying the 'show' currently. cool cool

Gbawe:

My dear sister, is this not why some continue to insist that GEJ is literally getting away with murder because Nigeria has never been this divided along ethnic and religious lines. If not for how terribly divided Nigerians are today, along sectional lines, should every single Nigerian not angrily condemn this insanity whereby the GEJ Government has frittered 3 trillion ($18 billion) allocated for defence and security over 3 years only to be insensitively asking for another $1 billion when there is absolutely nothing to show for the massive amount devoted to fighting insecurity under Jonathan? This would spark a revolution in almost any other nation on earth !!! I.e $18 billion devoted to fighting terrorism and insecurity is looted callously by treasonous elements, while the nation becomes far more insecure and significantly greater number of Nigerians are being maimed and killed by terrorist, yet the Government has the nerve to ask for a $1billion loan !!!

All this at a time we are supposed to have healthy 'rainy day' savings facilitated by how oil price per barrel has been significantly higher than budgeting benchmark for the entire time GEJ has been President!!!! Benchmark hovers around $75.00 per barrel yet oil has been above $100 for virtually most of the Presidency of GEJ. Give or take, Nigeria is gaining at least $20 per barrel above benchmark. Given the volume of oil Nigeria sells daily, one does not need to be a rocket scientist to know the sort of savings Nigeria should have put away which means it is insanity for GEJ to now be asking approval to borrow a mere $1 billion we will likely be paying interest on when we this sort of amount should be a small part of what Nigeria has put away in savings for emergency spending !!! This is why I have no doubt $20 billion indeed 'disappeared' as Sanusi revealed.

I am in no doubt that GEJ is running Nigeria like a Ponzi scheme and that Nigeria is indeed broke with brazen deception being the only thing Okonjo-Iweala et al are using to fool the world that the situation is otherwise. The brazen looting GEJ is supervising truly marks him out as inhumanly corrupt. Jonathan , if Nigeria was not so divided currently, should head the queue of leaders to be impeached immediately so that, without any delay, our nation can be rescued from the huge crash she is heading toward at 200 miles per hour!!!! I personally cannot believe, given all we know, that GEJ has the nerve to ask for this loan and I cannot understand why lawmakers should even be considering the request when they should be probing far, far bigger past allocation which appears to now have been embezzled brazenly !!!! How much is the amount Nyako was alleged to have mismanaged, to warrant his 'gra gra' impeachment, in comparison to what was looted n fuel subsidy scam plus the $18 billion pumped into security and defence under GEJ? Is the callous looting of funds meant to keep Nigerians safe and secure not far more grievous and deserving of punishment than anything else? Crazy nation.

Apart fron the president who knows what he wants a FM to achieve for the nation, no other person is qualified to dictate who should be our Finance minister. Not USA, not World Bank, not IMF and surely not The yeye Economist.

Precisely what I said earlier. What constitutes "properly qualified" for them? I suppose, concerning African countries, one would be "properly qualified" according to the economists if you have worked for international organisations like the IMF or World bank. They are comfortable thinking that we are in the dark ages and that the likes of NOI have the appropriate" western 'orientation' and experience that would mean automatic success because they are 'westernised' and can think better than the "savages" they would be leading in Africa. I fully endorse this post. Well-said. Your conclusion is what cannot be over-emphasised enough. I.e Dasuki must not be allowed to travel outside Nigeria. This is a matter of national security that trumps his demand of treatment abroad. A compromise should be found that ensures he remains in Nigeria. Many innocent Nigerians have died because of the unconscionable and devilish looting of funds in our Army that left our soldiers badly exposed and unable to protect even women and children Boko Haram were then able to murder brutally and with ease. The whole thing is traumatising when one thinks back to when these people who should be fight terror to a standstill, i.e Dasuki et al, spent their time looting funds only to then deceive Nigerians by demonising Buhari and linking him to Boko Haram when they were the ones empowering the sect directly and indirectly.

We are told Lamorde has fled and also one top Nigerian military officer and two Isrealis. Enough !!! DSS, the Minister of Justice, Chief justice of Nigeria and all others should be up and doing to ensure the law does not become an impediment to justice that will allow all these wicked, murderous and demonic people take flight.

@topic.

Sometimes I cannot believe the arrogance of Western press. Especially Britain with reportage that offensively have an imperialist tinge to their messages. What exactly makes her "poorly qualified"? She has relevant academic credentials and has good/relevant if not outstanding work experience. What disciples of academic/CV 'bling bling' will never understand is that Nigeria's problem are not that complex as to require Einstein-like intervention everywhere. Any averagely decent solution provider with sound academic knowledge (which Kemi surpasses on both count) can do wonders under a president 100% prepared to work for Nigeria as has never being the case since 1999.

Overall, for those who truly understand Nigeria and the dynamics of current issues, it is obvious things are more about the seriousness and political will the government of the day will be operating with. Therefore the most loaded CV (NOI) can deliver zilch under a worthless President (GEJ) whereas an appointee with a so-called modest CV (Adeosun) could perform wonders under a President (PMB) who is brave, has uncompromising political will and is ready to support her 100% to deliver results. As simple as that. Anyone good at identifying problems and capable of devising innovative solutions will thrive under the right President whereas the most impressive Nigerians have failed under many worthless and anti-people Presidents.

The PDP was a very powerful political Party that was going nowhere for the next 60 years because small parties could simply not trouble it.

Tinubu conceived the idea of the merger of political Parties as the only way to take on and defeat the PDP. He ensured it came to pass despite attempt, internal and external, to scuttle the formation of the APC.

Tinubu shielded koboless Buhari, providing the clout and finance, to ensure Buhari became APC candidate with events culminating in a primaries where Buhari got almost 100% of SW delegate votes, courtesy of Tinubu, which was even far more than he got from the North.

Tinubu, with governors he had helped to install in power, delivered 4 out of 6 SW States for Buhari in 2015 when our President did not win a single SW State in 2011 !!!

Buhari became President alongside the VP Tinubu chose to run with him. Today it is Tinubu's boys and girl , that he empowered directly and indirectly, controlling the most critical and important Ministerial portfolio in Nigeria today. There is so much in between the abridged history I have supplied above yet it is crystal clear the man is arguably the most powerful politician in Nigeria if we even discount everything else and only take his feat of leading the sustained and very painful charge to depose the PDP that boasted under Ogbulafor it would remain in power for 60 years. We know some, like you, will never have the clarity of vision and honesty to admit it. Even when you do not like someone, you do not pretend to miss what they have achieved unless a prejudiced, generally hateful or petty person.

Bruv, well-said. Saraki indeed is shameless. I personally think Buhari sees this as the first litmus test of his regime with failure not an option. If saraki is successfully prosecuted then the dividend is massive for Buhari home and abroad. If Saraki somehow wriggles out of it then the perception , home and abroad, will be that the Nigerian judiciary is still very corrupt and easy to compromise. This in turn means Buhari has had nil transformational/reformational effect and that the change mantra is mere rhetoric. Personally l back the President over this one.

As if the ignorance of the Op is not bad enough, others then follow him blindly with lynch mob fervour to carry on the ignorant demonisation of Nigerian governors over what they do not control. Dasuki means it when he says he is not scared of trial.

With his U-turn and contradictory utterance he is, in my opinion, sending a message to others he knows are weakling, and crapping their pants, that he will implicate them. It should be an interesting show because it appears Dasuki will fight being made the scapegoat for others all the way to oga pata pata at the top if una know wetin I mean. like I said earlier, Dasuki is complicit. Ngasky,

Your argument is based on solar panel/batteries/inverters [photovoltaic cells technology]. That's old, low-scale technology.

Different countries now use called concentrated solar power technology which is on a large-scale.

Let me borrow Wikipedia's definition of the technology..."Concentrated solar power (also called concentrating solar power, concentrated solar thermal, and CSP) systems generate solar power by using mirrors or lenses to concentrate a large area of sunlight, or solar thermal energy, onto a small area. Electricity is generated when the concentrated light is converted to heat, which drives a heat engine (usually a steam turbine) connected to an electrical power generator or powers a thermochemical reaction (experimental as of 2013)."

The beauty of CSP is that it doesn't require constant daylight/sunshine. The heat of the sun is stored overnight in special thermal liquids so that the thermal plants run round the clock. And in spite of all, it's cheaper to build than traditional power plants.

That's what is used at the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility [http://ivanpahsolar.com/] in California and currently in development in Masdar City [www.masdar.ae] in the UAE.

President Muhammadu Buhari will host members of the victorious U-17 side, who retained the FIFA U-17 World Cup title in Chile, on November 29 at the Aso Rock Villa.

A key member of the squad, told CompleteSports that NFF officials have informed them about the event, where Buhari is expected to reward the Golden Eaglets.

“We have been informed that the President will host us on the last Sunday of this month (November 29),” he said.

“We are eagerly waiting to know what we will get for doing the nation proud in Chile.

“It will be a great honour to wine and dine with him and we also hope to go home happy at the end of the day.”

in the long run have you consider the enormous challenge of maintenances? cleaning millions of panels at least weekly. replacing millions of batteries every 5 years? loss of thousands of hectares of precious lands. huge cost of replacing faulty parts e t c
mr owelle is only out to enrich himself to the detriment of the nation

Sir, while I defer to your knowledge and experience, it must be stressed that all forms of power generation comes with maintenance challenges. Solar continues to become more reliable and easier to maintain. Today there are even self-cleaning coating for photovoltaic panels.

https://www.asme.org/engineering-topics/articles/energy/self-cleaning-solar-panels-maximize-efficiency

Cleaning dirty panels with commercial detergents can be time-consuming, costly, hazardous to the environment, or even corrode the solar panel frame. Ideally solar panels should be cleaned every few weeks to maintain peak efficiency, which is especially hard to do for large solar-panel arrays.

"Cleaning can cost up to five dollars per panel," says Curran. "That might not sound like a lot of money, but if you have 52,000 panels it adds up quickly."

Robust Coating

To solve this problem, Curran and his nanophysics group in the Institute for NanoEnergy developed a self-cleaning nanohydrophobic material that coats the solar panel to maintain peak efficiency over longer periods of time.

"The coating itself is very robust," says Curran. "An actual covalent linkage holds it to surface of the panel, creating a strong chemical bond. This is a big advantage over spray-on coatings, which gradually degrade with time."

With the batteries, my impression is that this is not an issue if running a solar farm with photovoltaic panels directing energy to an inverter which then supply power directly to the grid (see article below). Batteries matter if we are talking of a solar plant where power goes from the solar panel to batteries and then on to the inverter before output to a grid. In any case, my impression is that battery technology has come a long way and that there are now many near zero maintenance batteries available.

Overall, our VP has stressed that renewable energy is part of a 'mix' to alleviate our power challenges going forward and I think it is an option worth looking into since we have the comparative advantage of very good sunshine all year round and the required land to establish solar farms. Many extremely bright experts contend that solar power is a viable option for Nigeria and I would certainly like to see their detailed proposals I am sure the government has seen to the extent it is encouraged to be moving positively in promoting renewable energy.

http://www.inverter.co/inverter-with-battery-bank-in-solar-farm-system-213029.html

Inverter with battery bank in solar farm system
I need to tell all of you a solar farm with batteries ensure that the power delivered to the inverters is stable DC power. The way these systems are installed is. The solar modules are connected to DC to DC charge controllers. The charge controllers are connected to the battery banks. The battery banks are connected to large 3 phase inverters, the inverters are connected to 3 phase transformers that convert the volts and amps into KVAs. The KVA can go to the substation or transfer station. The transfer stations are grid connected to either the main grid or mini grid or micro grid. The batteries are supplying the inverters stable volts and AMPS. Thus is a cloud or something that would shade the panels the power stays the same because the batteries are the stable source of electric power. Thus there is no power loss due to clouds, fog or rain.

These type of systems we call "Solar Power Plants", not solar farms. Solar farms have no storage thus a solar farm is totally dependent upon the sun to supply power directly to the inverters.

News Tuesday, November 17, 2015

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA-AGAINST the backdrop of the present dwindling international price of oil, the 36 state governors, yesterday, told President Muhammadu Buhari that if Nigeria must be one of the top economies of the world, there was the urgent need for the diversification of the economy.

The governors, who operate under the aegis of Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, said that diversification would help boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, base of the country.

Speaking in Abuja at the beginning of a two-day Internally Generated Revenue workshop organised by the NGF, Chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara State, Abdul'aziz Yari, who noted that the solution to the declining fiscal revenue facing most states lies in the diversification of the economy, said: "Economic diversification is vital to ensuring the long-term economic growth we seek. We must ensure that we are competitive in the way we diversify our economy, and ensure that the private sector plays a stronger role going forward. This event should guide our states to share practical and effective experiences for boosting revenue generation and also provide strategies to kick-start the process."

Jail nko ?

Sorry i forgot that is for hose who steal small small coins.

Will be good if that happens - assuming it is the mandatory punishment and not discretionary . Never say never. Bode George, under Yar Adua, became an 'elewon' when nobody thought that was possible.

America's 240-acre sun farm

The Wild West's new pioneers are harnessing the billion-dollar potential of solar power.

The Cimarron Solar Facility in New Mexico will be the biggest of its kind in the US when it is finished early next year.

By Charles Laurence
9:00AM BST 21 Oct 2010

to one side of the fence, a herd of bison grazes against a backdrop of low mountain peaks, the unmistakable landscape of America’s West. To the other, a workforce in yellow construction helmets and orange safety vests is bolting solar energy panels to steel tresses in rows several hundred yards long.

The 500,000 photovoltaic panels will generate 30 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 9,000 homes

The flat, glass-coated panels, each one measuring four feet by two, shimmer in the sunlight. The men are laying half a million of them, each one guaranteed to last for 25 years, over 240 acres of land, and the overall effect, seen from above or at a distance, is of a lake in the arid grasslands, or the mirage of one.

We are in northern New Mexico, miles from pretty much anywhere, under one of those big skies that distort the eye’s perspective, making the ring of mountains seem a lot further away than it is and the giant Cimarron Solar Facility appear smaller than it is. At closer quarters the builders look like cotton-pickers on some strange science-fiction plantation.
Nearby is Cimarron, a genuine Wild West town on the Santa Fe Trail. It offers a creek, a crossroads and an old hotel called the St James, where Billy the Kid once drank, and in which the bullet holes in the ceiling have been preserved. It is a four-hour drive north-east from Albuquerque, the big city of New Mexico, winding through mountains that are the southern tail of the Rockies.

It is an oddly remote place to find a solar energy plant that will be America’s biggest when complete early next year. On the drive here we have seen several spreads of solar panels, increasingly familiar from rooftops everywhere, laid out in fields about the size of a market garden. They are powering small factories and, in one case, a small shopping centre.

But the Cimarron Solar Facility is on a different scale: it is what the Americans call a 'utility’ – a power station – and it is immense.

Its 500,000 photovoltaic panels will generate 30 megawatts of electricity, enough, in the popular measurement, to power 9,000 homes. It is costing about $250 million to build, significantly less than a gas, coal or nuclear power station, which can easily exceed $1 billion. And it represents a sea-change in America’s energy business.

America has been notoriously devoted to hydrocarbon fuels. Big Oil, Big Coal and big Texan hats in the White House were seen by the rest of the world to be keeping it so, whatever the global interest. Oil barons funnelled money to scientists ready to pour doubt on the science of climate change, and conservative Republicans led the charge to pour scorn on those such as the former Democrat vice-president Al Gore who were urging Americans to rethink where their energy was coming from.
'Energy security’, a catchphrase in Washington, had more to do with invading Iraq, battling terrorists and drilling off pristine coasts than cutting consumption and exploring 'renewables’. Things – quite suddenly, it seems – are changing.
'When we come fully on-line, we’ll be the biggest solar facility in the country,’ says Justin Bloch, the plant manager for First Solar, America’s biggest solar energy company, which is building Cimarron. 'But not for long. We are even having a race against our own company, which is building another site in Arizona. There’s a huge growth in interest, and investment is accelerating. We’re talking about billions of dollars.’
Plants are already planned or in the early stages of construction in most of the sunbelt states of America, rising in multiples of power output from Cimarron’s 30 megawatts to 40, 80 and, in Arizona, 300. First Solar itself is opening a plant capable of 80 megawatts near Toronto in Canada, an area not much noted for sunshine.

This stuff has been happening for years: the hills beyond the Cimarron plant are scarred with strip mines, abandoned oil derricks and ghost towns, relics of boom-and-bust exploitation, and Decker, along with countless others, is left wondering whether the solar panels are offering a clean, green future, or, with their government grants and subsidies, just another way of making a buck.
The truth is, they are both. Which energy sources have the best potential will become clear in the next 20 years or so. Nuclear energy, wind, hydroelectric and biomass will all play their part. Business follows the money, and the money is suddenly leading to green energy in general, and to solar in particular.
'We have the sun,’ says Alex Levine, a clean energy expert at the Sierra Club, America’s most vocal conservation group. 'We should become one of the world’s great solar generating locations. It’s the cleanest renewable energy available, and its role is growing as the incentives to build grow and the policies are put in place.’
America’s workers, beggared by recession, offer the most down-to-earth of all readings of the future. They learnt long ago that opportunity does not come to them, and that they must go to it. That is why Frank Harrington is living in a tent while he sends his money home – he has six sons between eight and 23 – and why he knows what to do next.
'I’ll fold that tent,’ he says, 'and I’ll get down to the next solar plant they build.’

Ngasky:
this is not feasible technically. it is an attempt to deceive the government. the cons against solar or wind power are greater than the pros

I agree about the cons which is mainly the relatively huge initial outlay required to produce renewable energy. Long term use will claw back costs and the energy produced is 'clean'. While financing is a challenge, it is by no means an insurmountable impediment.

The reasons Saraki is trying everything to scuttle the case by any means possible. It will be all over for him if the trail goes ahead and he is found guilty.

3 Things That Will Happen To Saraki If Found Guilty By CCT

POSTED BY: HAKEEEM OGUNYEMI NOVEMBER 5, 2015

Bukola Saraki

Grave punishments await Senate President Bukola Saraki if he is being found guilty by the Code of Conduct Tribunal over a 13-count charge of false declaration of assets.

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki is currently on trial at the code of conduct tribunal for fraud in asset declaration while in office.

The direction of the trial is currently unknown but lawyers have started looking at the consquences of the offence if he is found guilty in the ongoing trial.

According to the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), if found guilty, Saraki shall face any or all of the following:

1. removal from office,

2. disqualification from holding any public office

3. forfeiture to the state, any property acquired in abuse of office.

However the tribunal chairman, Justice Danladi Umar before adjourning the case to October 21-23rd had ruled that the charges are criminal in nature.

Therefore it’s possible criminal punishments be applied. Today’s trial (5th of November) witnessed a walk out by Saraki’s counsel to protest the contination of the CCT proceeding despite the case being tabled at the Supreme court.

How Nigeria can become solar super power.

Patrick Owelle on November 19, 2015 4:42 am

Osinbajo

THERE is a “Green Energy Revolution” underway in Nigeria that can increase prosperity for millions of poor families by harnessing the abundant and clean energy of the sun.

With the right policies in place, Nigeria can easily become a world leader in solar energy and this can also address acute power shortages, and make a real difference in slowing the pace of climate change.

Since being elected in May 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President , Prof. Yemi Osinbajo have outlined the government’s vision for increasing Nigeria’s renewable energy capacity, including a boost in solar power generation from virtually zero to 70 GW. The plan is to achieve these targets by 2020. But to do so, Nigeria needs a National Energy Policy, Regulatory Programmes and innovative financing mechanisms that encourage the development of distributed energy, particularly, applications that combine solar generation with energy storage.

Nigeria has already taken positive steps by announcing very aggressive goals to meet 40 per cent of its energy needs through renewables by 2020. I firmly believe that, with favourable policies and strategic economic investments, Nigeria could meet all of its energy needs through renewables by 2040.

Nigeria is endowed with abundant free solar energy. Using the country’s deserts and farm land and taking advantage of 320 to 350 sunny days a year, Nigeria could easily generate 5,000 trillion kWh of solar energy.

In other words, Nigeria could easily install around 1,000 GW of solar generation – equivalent to 40 times the current peak power demand (about 25 GW) – using just 0.5 per cent of its land. In addition, Nigeria can produce over 100 GW from wind power.

Nigeria is both densely populated and has high solar insolation, providing ideal conditions for the exponential growth of solar power as a future energy source. With GDP growing at about 7 per cent, solar PV is the only renewable energy resource that can bridge the ‘gap’ between supply and demand.

Solar energy can transform Nigeria and help bring about decentralised distribution of energy, thereby empowering people at the grassroots level and eliminating the need for costly expansion of transmission and distribution systems.

How Can Nigeria Achieve Its Economic, Environmental and Energy Goals?
Recent Solar Power projects agreement signed last month by VP Yemi Osibanjo with UK Government/DFID and French Solar Powerhouse, Vergnet points to the seriousness of engagement in Solar Electricity by the Current Administration.

In addition, micro-grids have the potential to change the way communities generate and use energy, can reduce costs, increase reliability and improve environmental performance. Micro-grids can be used to take substantial electrical load off the existing power grid and so reduce the need for building new or expanding existing transmission and distribution systems.

By implementing the following 10 strategies, Nigeria can begin to become a “Solar Super Power”:
Develop National Renewable Energy (RE) Policy – Enact and deploy a comprehensive new energy roadmap or innovative RE policies (e.g., PPAs, Net Metering, FIT, etc.) without delay. In addition, set National Renewable Energy Standards/Policy such as 20 per cent by 2020, 40 per cent by 2030 and 100 per cent by 2040 – to create demand, new industries and innovation, and a new wave of green jobs.

Invite International Developers to meet the revised government targets of 70 GW of Solar and 75 MW of Wind by 2022 and beyond.
Electrifying Transportation – Expedite a move to electrify transportation by encouraging expanded use of Electric Vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrids, and deployment of solar-powered EV charging stations around the country. Develop and implement time-of-day pricing to encourage charging of vehicles at night and other times when peak demand is low. In addition, launch the public transportation system of the future with zero-emission battery-powered Electric Buses in all major cities to reduce air pollution and reverse climate change.

Energy Efficiency – Make Energy Efficiency a high priority by expediting the development and implementation of cost-effective energy efficiency standards. To reduce the long term demand for energy, engage states, industrial companies, utilities and other stakeholders to accelerate energy efficiency investments such as large scale nationwide use of LED lamps.

Utility-Scale Projects – Phase out conventional energy subsidies, and develop a long term plan to replace fossil and nuclear plants with utility-scale renewable generation.

Innovative Financing Solution – Provide innovative financing (including Tax-Free Solar Bonds or Green Infrastructure Bonds, accelerated depreciation mechanism, and access to credit at globally competitive rates, etc.) to instil more confidence from potential investors and decrease the cost of financing for renewable energy projects. Create and fund a national smart infrastructure bank for renewable energy.
However, for Nigeria to meet its future energy needs, it can no longer afford to delay deployment of solar energy.

Last time I checked this discussion is about why the government should spend a huge amount of money as commission when they can spend less of that amount in purchasing a similar Software. So, let me ask you, do you support the government to continue paying commission for eternity or they should just buy one?

How many times will you be told this is a payment system and not just a "software" ?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_system

A payment system is any system used to settle financial transactions through the transfer of monetary value, and includes the institutions, instruments, people, rules, procedures, standards, and technologies that make such an exchange possible

Indeed. Is it too much to ask Melaye, a serving Senator, to be sure of his fact before going public with such? If Melaye is performing oversight duty, even if his figure is off by many billions, then what is Fayose doing by asking the Government to reveal the owner of Remita? look at the thug governor in his element below only to now stand disgraced since we know that no one company took the entire 1% fee, as alleged by Melaye and fayose, to then make N25 billion. The 1% fee is shared between SystemSpecs (0.5%) , Commercial banks (0.4%) and the CBN (0.1%). These guys are giving leadership a bad name.

http://authorityngr.com/2015/11/Fayose-to-FG--Tell-Nigerians-owners-of-REMITA/

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has challenged the Federal Government to unmask the owners of REMITA, a consultancy company which allegedly collected N25 billion fee in a day for transferring N2.5 trillion to the Treasury Single Account (TSA) on behalf of the government.

The governor said on Sunday that he would not attend the meeting called by the Federal Government with state governors on the TSA because his administration is not interested in the TSA policy, describing it as fraud against Nigerians by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and the New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, the governor asked the Federal Government to rather "remove the veil on the face of REMITA so that Nigerians can know the real owners through whom the All Progressives Congress (APC) is siphoning Nigeria's money to fund Kogi and Bayelsa states' governorship elections."

He continued: "From all intent and purposes, this TSA policy is aimed at recouping money spent on the last general elections by the APC, as well as raise money for future elections, especially the Kogi and Bayelsa states' gubernatorial polls.

"It is also meant to enrich some individuals for doing virtually nothing and that can be seen from the discovery of N25 billion that already accrued to just a single company in one day!

"How can the Federal Government justify a transaction in which a single company gets one per cent, amounting to N25 billion in one day?
"In this economic situation that Nigeria is, shouldn't the one per cent commission have been negotiated downward to like 0.1 per cent which would have reduced the N25 billion to N2.5 billion?

"Even manufacturing companies, with thousands of employees don't make N25 billion profit in a month. Therefore, what Nigerians are expecting from the Federal Government is explanation on the alleged N25 billion scam already associated with the operation of the TSA, instead of calling state governors to a meeting that is aimed at imposing the TSA policy on the states," he said.

Fayose, who insisted that he would not attend the Federal Government's meeting with the governors on the TSA, said that the Federal Government cannot force its policies on states that are federating units in the Nigerian Federation.
