TravelRe: Why Are Some Nigerians Abroad Scared Of Going Back Home? by gbeborun(m): 6:18pm On Mar 17, 2007
@alabiyemmy,
I'll never quote that, never!!!!! Nigerians survive the world over becos of sheer determination! Think it's foolhardy to compare the quality of nigerian education to western education. This aint about patriotism bruv, let truth be told. nigerian educational system is in shambles and total ruin! It needs to be overhauled and quickly too, b4 the launch more ekpoma like graduates out again.

alabiyemmy, i guess you were having a laff when u said that (nigerian education is better) Pls there's just no basis for comparison abeg. Nigerian graduates are very good, but that aint de to the effort of the schools but the determination of the students to succeed and better themselves. In all, nigerian education is in SHAMBLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing them they teach/lecture, nothing at all. being there before!
TravelRe: Why Are Some Nigerians Abroad Scared Of Going Back Home? by gbeborun(m): 12:15am On Mar 17, 2007
@alabiyemmy
it beats me that you can compare western education to nigeria education. my brother, if you've tasted both sides then u are definitely not telling the truth. Haba, nigerian education (at least for the past 10years) is rubbish and nothing to write home about. The curriculum is filled with outdated and irrelevant course models. Abeg, there's no way you can compare a foreign graduate (that is worth his/her salt) to a nigerian graduate at all. na ogboju na graduates they do. nothing them they learn for school. i can pick you up on this any day at anytime.
pls stop beefing!!!!!!!

They are still in existence and currently have just three branches in Lagos - VI, Ikeja and Apapa. They also have a branch in Port Harcourt. They seem to be more into corporate banking than retail/mass market.
thanks jare, people no bother to answer me because no be job notice! anyways thanks, i just hope they pay their workers well

CareerRe: Tony Elumelu Of UBA Graduated With Third Class? by gbeborun(m): 1:01pm On Mar 13, 2007
I believe it's people with very poor results that will start a thread like this. Why bother about the grades of successful people? People's comparism of technicians in Alaba mkt to a university graduate who is worth his/her salt is rather stupid. No nation can survive with half baked graduates and bunches of illiterate!
If u think consoling yourself by refering to Gani and Elumelu because they had 3rd class will make u feel better, all well and good. Stand up and be counted, in present day Nigeria, it'll be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a 3rd grad to be given the opportunity to prove themselves.
If you guys talk about drop outs that made it, i wont refer to such examples. I'd rather refer to successful graduates that turned economies around, started world class business with their wonderful ideas and are making a nice living for themselves.
CareerIs Standard Chartered Bank Still In Nigeria? by gbeborun(op): 12:47pm On Mar 13, 2007

@ Hotstepper
Toronto most diverse city in the world? haba my sister, wetin happen to London? How are you enjoying Canada? The place sucks! And annoyingly cold. Visited calgary and toronto, wasnt impressed at all. (Who no go, no know!) had to endure a gruelling flight from calgary to toronto for 4hrs (half the time it took to come from London). Anyways, enjoying ur post
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by gbeborun(m): 9:03pm On Mar 08, 2007
LondonCool:
Student visa's have nothing to do with age but rather with the relevance of the course to the applicant and the financial ability to pursue the course without having to rely on UK public funds or work. I have seen lots of Police Officers and Civil Servants in their 40's coming for first degree courses. Also, last October the Age Discrimination legislation came into effect so it would be wrong to prevent a qualified applicant from pursuing a course because of his age.

ECO Checklist for Student Visa
Valid passport,Current educational qualification,Relevance of course,Sponsor details,Acceptable Financial outlay to meet the cost of the course ,accommodation and maintenance in UK,Acceptance by UK School approved by Dfes ,Proof that student would return to country of origin at the end of studies,
@Akolawole
wont argue about this age thingy, meant a guy some couple of years ago and the reason he was refused was because he applied for a college diploma @ 25yrs and that the diploma can be obtained at a cheaper price in Nigeria, saw the letter me self, so wont argue any further. U said lots of civil servants and police officers in their 40's coming for 1st degree courses, very true cos they already have a career and the programme will be very beneficial to them. Mind you said they came for degree courses and not college diploma!
Akolawole and LondonCool, how can they prove that a student will return to his/her country of origin upon completion of their studies. Dont you guys think it's a bit vague and ambigous?
PS: Not tryin to discourage anyone o, cos anything can happen. This thread is just meant to share ideas.
TravelRe: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by gbeborun(m): 5:32pm On Mar 07, 2007
@Akolawole
yea i did mention age, as an ECO if a 26yr old applies for a college programme how would you treat/see the application. same point should be used to access a graduate applying for a college diploma, sounds dodgy innit? I leave you to it.
BusinessRe: Woolworths Lagos Closed Down: Any Idea Why? by gbeborun(m): 12:14am On Mar 07, 2007
went thru the threads, for me Nigeria really has a lot of catching up to do. As a nation we cant be relevant in today's competitive business environment if we fail to develop ourselves. But have we really developed ourselves? Answer is NO, we complain about foreign multi-nationals, point accusing fingers at them, but we no they try as a nation. We need to do away with somethings and improve in some regards. Saw the pix from singapore, malaysia and i was impress, incase some people dunno, malaysia got the palm seeds from naija and today the are leading in that are and not solely dependent on oil. I find it very disgusting for someone in America, Amsterdam, London, Toronto where ever sha to sit in the comfort of their homes and chant ways for naija's growth.

TravelRe: Why Go Abroad And Never Coming Back? by gbeborun(m): 11:20pm On Mar 06, 2007
debosky:
If people are allowed to contribute i'm sure they would, whether they live in Nigeria or not, the question is: how is the environment being created for people to contribute or help their father land? and the 1960 excuse doesn't work, things have gotten worse not better so that isn't the issue

when things begin to settle to a reasonable level, Nigerians will flock back in droves, we all love our country.
My brother, well said. Some people just fail to say the truth because of some unfounded patriotism.
