I think this randa guy is just a silly goat, a few months ago 28th of May to be precise, he complained about a bank babe that wanted to sleep with him (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=56111.msg1154293#msg1154293). Now another girl is threatening his relationship. Are you the only guy in Kontagora?

BusinessRe: Lagos Imposes Levy On Generator Owners! by gbeborun(op): 7:45pm On Nov 22, 2007
So our governor is hell bent on reaping people off. No light from the govt and when we decided to get generators they want us to do emission test. If they are concerned about pollution then they should make the test very very cheap, at most like #2,500.
This is just another money making venture. I really pity MTN, GLO and CELTEL cos all there generating set around the metropolis will have to be tested. Abeg, we should make the operating environment for businesses tougher.

It's all good, our beloved assembly men/women have started barely 4mths into their four year term, if £2.5million or $5million or #600 can be used to upgrade just two building, i wonder how much they'll need to renovate the assembly itself before they finally leave. It is well. God bless Nigeria.
In my opinion such a thing cannot happen in the UK and with the same publicity and the alleged perpetrators will be remain in office. They ought to have resigned.

If you don't know what KPMG is - that means you do not need to bother yourself with this thread - especially if you are in 400 Level and above.Ma
Maybe you are not the kind they are looking for!
POINT OF CORRECTION, KPMG HAS ALWAYS BEEN KPMG AND NOT FORMERLY ARTHUR ANDERSON (very silly mistake to make!) Guess you wanted to say Accenture.
PoliticsRe: Northern Nigeria And Ministerial Portfolios by gbeborun(m): 9:12am On Jul 29, 2007
this is good reminder of the military days, now strategic portfolio are returning to the north, it's a pity though. Me think the re-Northernization of Nigeria has begun.

CareerRe: I’m Leaving My Job To Go Back To School: by gbeborun(m): 6:47pm On Jul 24, 2007
Some people have very myopic view, buy shares, buy shares, invest in Dangote etc My brother the best investment you can make is to invest in your future! Nobody, i repeat nobody can steal or take it from you. And by investing in your future i think going to school to get a degree is not a bad idea, even if you've a sponsor i'll advice you seek part-time opportunities.
Enron collapsed, remember the dot.com wahala, now those share certificate are worthless, but if u graduate with a good grade, you can always put your certificate to good use. Your degree certificate will be of immerse value in the future.
I admire your drive, pls ensure you start something this year, it is well with you

CultureRe: Why Do Yorubas Classify Every Other Nigerians As Igbo by gbeborun(m): 12:28pm On Jun 17, 2007
WHy do Yorubas classify every other Nigerian as Igbo? Very simple, cos it's easier! Imagine the different languages and people, how can you remember them all?
North East Nigeria - Fulani, Kanuri
North Central - Nupe, Tiv, Idoma, Igalla, Igbira, Gwari
North West- Fulani, Hausa, Kanuri
South East- Igbo, Anioma,
South- South- Urhobo, Itsekiri, Ijaw(Ezon), Isoko, Kalabari, Ikwerre, Andoni, Bini, Akoko Edo, Ibibio, Efik,
SOuth West- YORUBA

Me think a distinction has to be made between LANGUAGE and PEOPLE!
Or better still refer to people by their state of origin e.g Omo Delta, Omo Edo etc. Cos no be everybody know the sub divisions for nigeria. Dont blame any that makes the mistaken of callin non -Yorubas Igbo, Ijaw or Hausa. Simply correct them.
CultureRe: Why Do Yorubas Classify Every Other Nigerians As Igbo by gbeborun(m): 11:56am On Jun 17, 2007
dakmanzero:
The reason is simple.

The english have a culture

The americans have a culture

Nigerians have no culture

what we have is a fake quasi-anglo-american frankenstein cultural facade dripped over whichever archaic stagnated tribal customs we choose to hold on to, depending on which corner of the country we come from.

As a so-called Nigerian, I speak English and Yoruba. Neither of those languages is spoken in landmasses spanning over 75% of the country. Funny enough, I am better off than millions who do not speak English, instantly cutting themselves off from more than half the rest of the country, and since whatever their local tribal language is is unlikely to be recognized internationally, unless it is Hausa, they are cut off from the world as well.

And please don't give me some shit about some cultural dances being 'culture'. Because we have chosen to seperate civilisation from out native customs, we have stagnated them in the dark ages and turned them into archaic relics of a dead age.

Of course anyone who steps out of the country will get 'assimilated'. Because he has one of 2 options if he chooses NOT to be assimilated

(a) stick to the nigerianized version of western culture. Since its simply a poor imitation of what hes trying not to be assimilated by, this is equal parts futile and stupid.

(b) stick to his local tribal customs. And act like an uncivilised baboon, disgracing his people and country with every step. Marrying multiple wives and slashing the faces and genitals of his children.
Didnt realise we dont have a culture in Nigeria. Silly you! I strongly agree with the person that said Nigerians are going thru identity crisis.
Most people make the mistake, just like people in Africa (Nigeria) consider everyone in England/United Kingdon to be English, when some are Welsh, Irish, Cornish, Scottish etc. My bro that mistaken identity is not peculiar to Yoruba people!
PropertiesPutting A Stop to Building Collapse in Lagos by gbeborun(op): 11:42am On Jun 17, 2007
What can be done to avert this recurring problems of building collapsing in Nigeria especially in Lagos state. Me think this needs serious attention because the lives of lots of people is at stake from greedy landlords and shady contractors. Lack of maintenance culture and i too know (ITK) mentality of the local contractors as well. Please what can be done?

Quote from: docokwy on June 14, 2007, 10:20 PM
When the Yoruba stop ogboni and its fetish practices (to which at least 70 % of Yorubas belong), stealing Nigeria's money by their elites and burying Obas with human heads; and the hausa stop sharia and religious riots, almajirism and marabouting, they (eg Laudate) can advise the Igbo who practise Osu to end it. Balderdash

Let's talk more docokwy, check out the true meaning of marabout, almajiri and sharia etc what you listed are not meant to discriminate among people of the same stock!
Lastly, i'm just so glad that you have made the yorubas nigeria's elite now, kudos. Please check your facts b4 u start blabbing.
CultureRe: Let's End The 'Osu' Problem by gbeborun(m): 10:14am On Jun 16, 2007
I think we've got very few enlightened people on this forum. Using the internet has really made it worse cos illiterates and semi-literate feel really cool and adjourn themselves to be among the enlightened people simply because they can browse and post topics on Nairaland! I wonder how Ogboni issue compares with the Osu issue. And for those of them that havent seen an Osu person, i wonder if they expect the Osu people to put a tag on their head proclaiming they are osus (as if it's something to be proud off).
Talking about fetish practices, it's not a Yoruba problem, the last time i checked Okija is in Anambra not in any Western state and if what they practice there is not fetish then i wonder what is then (maybe we shld check from Chris Ngige).

funny both true, do you guys know that about two and half years ago, some councils in Delta State, Nigeria notably Warri-South and Udu LGC introduced Borehole charges for residents that have borehole in their premises. Can you beat that? The council dint provide water, ordinary nigerians sought to help themselves and the council resorted to tax. Na wah o. Please how can we get rid of retards in our government?
BusinessRe: Lagos Imposes Levy On Generator Owners! by gbeborun(op): 2:14pm On Jun 02, 2007
Insensitive, wicked, callous, greedy etc what else can be used to describe some of our leaders. I guess Fashola needs more money to battle PDP, cos he needs a massive war chest to face them in another four years. Little wonder he has already started saving money towards that. Ride on guv'nor, milk the people dry and when there's nothing left, i guess they'll sell off every individual in the state.
