You don't think the per cost of that conversion is already detrrmined?

KarlTom:
I forsee 60+

Reasons:
In other not to cause too much dilution, they need the SP to be as high as possible before the debt-to-equity conversion.

$300m (or ₦450bn @₦1500/$) of RBL is to be converted to equity

If SP is ₦50 = 9bn units
If SP is ₦60 = 7.5bn units
If SP is ₦75 = 6bn units

Engagements with citizens and players in the market is part of building confidence in the system and very important in building an inclusive govt. I beleive that is what they are currently doing.
For you to stay on nairaland and continue to boast of disobedience to the laws of the land is simply empty chest beating. If and when govt is ready to enforce the law, bro, you will enter the tax office yourself and file your tax returns. Thank you.

mikeapollo:
Is Lagos the same as NGX or you think every investor lives in Lagos?
They cannot do nothing if I offload my shares and move my loot out of the jurisdiction. The govt itself cannot be serious with implementation because the Implementation Committee itself has realized and acknowledged the problems and impracticability of the CGT law
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 10:29am On Feb 16
Plan your trade and trade your plan.

Harddiskng:
My question is even if market price finally meets up with the right issue price (N50).

What is the guarantee that price doesn’t slide back to 40s once right issue period is over.

It looks like monkey hunting to me.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 10:25am On Feb 16
You should get used to Tinubu's face till 2031 and whoever takes over from him must continue to push necessary reforms to continue the growth we are currently seeing. National growth and development trump any primodial sentiment!

mikeapollo:
The govt that is harassing us will not be in power for ever. That is what matters most!
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 10:07am On Feb 16
grin grin but you will eventually need to take money out nah

awesomeJ:
Make it any % but keep the reinvestment clause 😁😁😁
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 10:01am On Feb 16
Dey play. Ask the people in Lagos how they enter banks themselves to pay tax, even penalty for traffic offence sent by sms to their phones without anyone chasing them. If govt is serious with implementation, you've got no escape route.

mikeapollo:
So when I sell my stocks and keep my money cash inside my room(assuming), they will come and collect the tax from my room?
Or when I convert to foreign currency and wire it to my foreign domiciliary or fixed deposits accounts in Europe, US or Ghana or S/Africa?
You think the proceeds would be sitting idle in my local accounts till end of the year?

When I say the ''end'' of NGX, I mean it would lead to exodus of investors and the index would crash!
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 9:58am On Feb 16
Yes. Make it 10% but be very aggressive with the implementation.

Agbalowomeri:
Anything above 10% for stocks is not sensible, considering the risks involved
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 9:57am On Feb 16
Yes, you will. I think 25% but you don't pay tax on re-invested gain within the same financial year.

Sunrisepebble:
I don’t really understand the tax laws. If I make 100m in profit (realized) and I take 5m from that amount outside the market. Do I pay tax on the 5m?
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 9:45am On Feb 16
The NGX is not ending!!
It is normal to want to resist change. Give it time, I assure you, you will enter the tax office yourself to file your tax. That being said, I believe the current CGT rate is too high and should be reviewed downward.

mikeapollo:
That would be the end of the NGX! It wont happen.
The same way we had CGT at 10% in the Finance Act 2021 but was never enforced nor implemented. They just raised the rate to 30% but the implementation would be extremely problematic. This is probably why the Implementation Committee set up by the finance minister said they may have to keep the status quo in several aspects of the law.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 9:30am On Feb 16
If you fail to pay your tax, the law gives govt the right to take that tax from wherever you are keeping money even from your stockbroker. dey play

mikeapollo:
Will you voluntarily file and pay your CGT to govt at the end of the year?
Nobody will voluntarily file or pay the CGT.
People initially thought it would be deducted at source when you trade on the NGX but since it is now said to be voluntary, nobody would do it except for corporate organizations like institutional investors.

Don't be too hard on yourself and it will also do you no good if you continue to look in the direction of village peole for your misfortune.

The people you see here as successful have given years into the business and learnt a lot of leasons along the way.
Number one, you need to modrate your greed. Two, buy/borrow/steal patience, it is the bedrock of success in this business. IT IS NEVER A GET RICH QUICK VENTURE. Three, acquire basic education on how to spot good prospects. This forum is heaven-sent in this regard. And, just take it one day at a time.

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 12:39pm On Feb 14
Do you all actually believe that Agba is just there observing the market, waiting for his much talked about 'November 100% yield' and just watching all these endless opportunities fly by? No nah. I don't believe so. Man is undoubtedly invested in the market. He is just catching cruise as they say grin grin

Mankind2024:
Yes, Mr. Agba is humble. Was reportedly clocked billions in gains around 2017/2019, right in the thick of that brutal market downturn. Zenith Bank plunged from over ₦40 to as low as ₦16, and it got so intense that Jim Ovia had to step in and urge investors not to panic-sell. His famous words: “We have been in this situation before, and we will get over it.”
The irony? The only real thing that worked against Mr. Agba in recent years seems to be his own intelligence.
In most professions—engineering, law, medicine, accounting—the more knowledge and expertise you accumulate, the higher your earnings climb. But in the capital markets, the opposite often holds true. History shows time and again that too much knowledge, over-analysis, or a high IQ can become a serious disadvantage.
Overcomplicating things, timing the market, second-guessing the obvious, or holding on too long or too short because of "smart" reasons has tripped up even the sharpest minds—including Mr. Agba—from 2022 till now.
The lesson? In investing, discipline, patience, and simplicity frequently outperform raw intellect. Sometimes, the best move is to know just enough... and then act decisively without overthinking.

IPO means ( It is Probably Overpriced)
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 7:47pm On Feb 12
I asked chatgpt. Below is the response:

Seplat (now Seplat Energy Plc) listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in April 2014 as part of a dual listing on both the NGX and the London Stock Exchange (LSE).

Key details:

Listing date: April 2014

Offer/Listing price: ₦576 per share

Board: Premium Board (NGX)

Also listed on: London Stock Exchange (LSE)

This was one of the most significant dual listings in Nigeria’s capital market at the time.

If you want, I can also pull the IPO size, shares offered, and original valuation.

GeeKudi:
So, from around 700 in 2014, it went down to as low as sub 200 in 2016? Was 2014 the year it listed?
Those queueing up for Dangote IPO must watch this interesting history.

Tried it for a few days in January. The harvest can be a major motivation but the mental stress of having to comb the market for what to look for the next day and the share attention it requires all week were just too much for me. Maybe he has some tools he deploys. Big kudos to him.

aj8:
Sounds like…..

“Goes fishing Monday to Friday. Like 10 lines all in the stream. Whatever tugs at the line he hauls in. Pulls in all the lines at the close of the day and goes home to prepare for the next day”

The lines could be e.g 10 million, 1 million, 100,000, or anything. Requires a lot of discipline to pull all the lines in at the end of the day. Not a strategy for just anyone. Luckily on NGX no loss ( line) can exceed 10%. Maybe awesomeJ would throw more light on his strategy. Main issue...how to pick the daily winners.

With an EPS of N30 (debate this for as long as you wish grin), I see OANDO rising to N100 in the shortest term.
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 9:18am On Feb 02
Please, get the facts straight. OANDO didn't 'pay off' some shareholders. The shares were retrieved from company (oando) debtors who couldn't pay their debts to the company but instead forfeited their holdings in the company in exchange for their debts.

pluto09:
How much was OandO share price when the company retrieved the share and paid some shareholders off??

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by GeeKudi: 6:27pm On Jan 30
I bought a Toyota Camry from Canada for a total cost of N2.2m in June 2020. If I had put that sum in NAHCO at the time, returns from dividends alone would even buy a better car now but I knew next to nothing about the stock market at the time. Life; time and season.

emmanuelewumi:
If you know you know .

Imagine buying a stock for N2.20k on 30th January 2021 and you will earn a dividend of N8.30k from the stock by May or June 2026
