Kebbi State, Nigeria — Deep grief and shock have engulfed several communities in Kebbi State following a deadly attack in which terrorists reportedly killed a school principal, several teachers, and kidnapped over 50 female students.

Nigeria has NEVER had a 5 star general (field marshal)!. Even military heads of state like Abacha and IBB never held that honour. So who then is a civilian president to hold the title of Field Marshal? In fact, in the US, only 1 person has ever been a field marshal (Douglas macarthur).

By the book just as a title, a president is a five star general who is above all the military ranks.
I have seen olusegun obasanjo in a field marshall uniform, Jonathan in a field marshall uniform and even buhari in a field marshall uniform as the president.
I am talking about the president here not the military hierarchy per say or are you saying a president will hold a four star general rank and would still lord over a four star chief defense staff general...?!!!
No military officer has attain the rank of a five star general in Nigeria.

A brigadier general is a one star general, a major general is a two star general, a lieutenant general is a 3 star general, a general is a 4 star (e.g president and commander in chief), and a field marshal is a 5 star general.

A four star general is the chief f defense staff CDS. 5 star general is the president/commander in chief f armed forces...

My question Is why do so many Generals go on compulsory retirement whenever a new chief of Army staff Is appointed. I have noticed that there are always a lot of Major Generals in the army. In which there are always no lieutenant Generals, except promoted to chief of army staff.

Also, from my years of observations, all the selected chief of army staff are always major generals before being promoted to Lieutenant Generals, when picked as chief of army staff.


What's confusing me right now and what I still can't get my head around Is why do other generals go on compulsory retirement Even when the newly chief of army staff Is being promoted to a lieutenant General, which Is superior than a major general.

Because from what I have observed, the generals that always goes on compulsory retirement are always major generals, can someone please enlighten me on this?

U can't take orders from your mate or junior so therefore all the senior officers must go on compulsory retirement.
