The metre is operating as post paid metre, the minus 7k plus is the recent total use for that month, at the end of the month it will push it to the outstanding sum while the new debt for new month start accumulating. Get the Ibed official to do something about it.

I recently ordered 3 meters and I can tell you that the outstanding you’re seeing is from the postpaid period before the prepaid was installed. The estimated billings you were giving before installation wasn’t paid in full so it rolled over and you’ll be debited 25% times very recharge (note you can’t offset the bills at their office).

As to why it’s not reading…… are you sure it’s not tampered ??

If it’s not then it could be a technical error but for 4 months… just stylishly make friends with one of the officials, open up to the person and see if they can come fix it without a heavy charge but I doubt.

If I have the meter number I can help you do a deep check.

There was no postpaid account, although maybe the PHCN can generate that as we register for the meter. There was a previous meter which they abandoned and since they abandoned it, they were not connected to any light which prompted me to request/register for a new meter..

I can not guarantee if it wasn't tampered with as there was a time the dashboard/control box caught fire and got burnt and I have to replace it with a new one. So during the process of replacement, I cannot say if the wire has been tampered with..

Meter can read negative if you borrow.

My disco allow borrowing of credit, which is limited to 10kwh.

An electrician also suggested this. He said maybe the meter was borrowing units on its own.

Guy, this has happened to me. I believe the meter is a single phased meter. The installer did not connect the wire from the meter box that is supposed to read the consumption of the user, rather it is another wire straight to the fuse board.

Later, when the unit in charge of meter would come for inspection, they would charge you for bypass and despite it not been ur act of wrong doing, they would still charge you for loss of revenue.

Solution.

Find another person or building that is using meter and buying units normally, review the connection of the wires from the box to the fuse box and get an electrician to effect the change. If u report urself, they would still penalize you over their own mistake/ negligence.

I paid 10k to beg the guy that identified this blunder and I rectified it myself.

It is a double phase meter. It was a PHCN official that install the meter thou I still saw where u said they'll still penalise me for an error made by them. An electrician has already examine the meter and what he said was that the meter is borrowing units on it own and that's why the meter hasnt trigger off since all this while for them to recharge it...

AEDC(Abuja electricity distribution company) has the best customer care service, if it where to be Aedc, a click of a button, someone will immediately take over your case for instant resolution..
I had issues with my prepaid meter recently I called a meter engineer I knew he was telling me long story that they have blocked my meter . Immediately I googled their website I saw a number for both calls and watsap I sent them messages on watsap immediately they attended to me and activated my meter..

I have sent an email, I hope they will respond asap thou I'll going to their office physically.

It is definitely a bypass. If you are not going to be affected, report it officially to the nearest office to avoid bearing the penalties and accumulated debts. It is an economic crime to be using light for 8 continous months without paying.

I am so certain that it wasn't a bypass. When the meter was brought for installation, it was installed by a PHCN official though, I don't know if the wiring must have been tampered with...

A basic case of negative meter reading.
Solution:
* recharge that meter with an amount well above that debt you see there. It will wipe away the negative reading and put your meter reading in the positive.
i. You can either continue topping up your meter unit ANYTIME you discover it is about to go negative (you/your tenants have the little box to check your unit balance. Use it!!) and all will be fine between you n the power supply company.

OR

ii. You can reach out the customer care unit of IBEDC (IMMEDIATELY after recharging that meter AND ENSURING your unit is in the positive) to report the negative reading issue.
If for any reason you do I too know and report this to IBEDC without first clearing your outstanding debt, the kain penalty wey dem go bill you for using light free for months (called free riding) will make you lose appetite for days.

The outstanding debt on it even came from them. A new meter came with an outstanding debt, how is that so. During the duration that the meter was requested for, no light was used oooo.

Oga It happens. I think it has to do with the negative. Mine on likedc did like so when I got it, they said it was negative Abi neutral wire, they were meant to come check it, but I did not follow up since it was me using it personally and would not let it get to negative.
What you should do immediately is write a letter about your complaint, take it to their office and let them stamp it in acknowledgement. Keep a copy. Make your complaint. To follow up, you can call their customer service number to complain too, but I also prefer email since it is hard copy and evidence.
You have to pay the outstanding since it was used, on the other hand you can decide to challenge it through nerc forum, claiming the meter did not stop reading and so the accumulated debt by your tenants are not your concern and see how it goes.

They usually give free 200 units for a start. When you exhaust it, they start billing.

Yes I am aware of this, but then when I requested for outstanding bills on the meter, the negative amount added got me confusing. Then again, since 4 months ago are u sure the 200 units wouldn't have exhausted for people of six. There are refrigerator users among them ooo...

I am actually avoiding that estimated bill. My single phase meter damaged, I had to switch to the meter that was abandoned by the occupant earlier and I have start paying the debt on it bit by bit..
The price of a single phase meter is now up to 150k while 3 phase meter is up to 230k, then the estimated bill they will place me on before they bring the meter which can span up to over 6 months to take them to bring a new meter.
Estimated bill for over 6months, it will be too huge...

The meter is faulty obviously.

You can repair it by engaging a meter engr unofficially, which is a better option.

Officially, they don't repay faulty meters, can only be replaced, and you'll pay heavy estimated bills for the period, as they'll treat it as a bypass since you didn't report to them since it happened.

I just got to know recently that they haven't made recharge on it since 4 months ago it was installed. I purchased the meter through a senior phcn official and I'll suggest the possible way to fix it to him if I should bring it back to him or have it fixed through a private meter engr.
Actually they will delay the repair so as to calculate huge estimated bills before they bring it back.
This is uncalled for tbh.

The old debt the shops had before the meter was installed will be added to the outstanding bill of the meter they will be deducting on every recharge till the debt is fully paid, I have same issue 2k Is deducted to pay my outstanding bills on every of my recharge

The old debt is on a separate meter which I have even start offsetting it. It has 369k on it...
I got a new meter when some of the occupant start their ranting and randy behavior as they refused rechargimg on the old meter citing they can't pay for what they didn't use. Now there's new meter yet none has recharge it for the past 4 months ago it was installed. My assumption is that they are waiting for the meter to trigger off before they recharge on it yet the meter sef no off ooo....

It is a prepaid meter, I'll escalate it by going to their office...

That's the only way you can solve this issue.

They will sit you down and look at your back office to know what's happening.

Make sure you do it while those Tennant's are there so that you can bill them if there is another bill to pay.

Bypass,no meter should read on negative.Either there is a bypass or the meters are sharing a common neutral capable for it to be reading negative,but in this case I sure it's a bypass

If it is a bypass, I'll seriously deal with the occupants. What manner of stupidity, they abandoned the previous meter citing too much of debt on it, then a new one was gotten and they still refuse to pay their bill...

Why not go to the nearest Phcn office and do official complaint to avoid paying the incurred bills yourself when the current occupants will leave.

The meter is faulty. It was suppose to trigger off when the credit finished but it didn't. Not new to me.
I would say you are in luck if it was for your personal use because you can use and pay anytime you want, no pressure.

I will like u all to please help me on this issue.
4 months ago, I requested for a new prepaid meter for 11 shops, even though 5 of them requested to be disconnected from nepa light while 6 shops was connected to the meter.

My concern now is, since I acquire this meter 4/5 months ago, this meter has not trigger off so they can recharge on it which has started giving me concern lately then I log on ibedc (Ibadan electricity distribution company) to obtain the outstanding bills for this new meter and from the look of things, aside the amount placed on the meter (by phch through their dubious means) from estimated billings prior to the insurance of the meter, I noticed a negative amount reading on the meter which I find very confusing.

I am beginning to think maybe the meter has started borrowing units on it own with what I read somewhere online.

These guys has been using light for over 8months without paying light bills.

I will like to act fact on this issue as this shop occupants abandoned a previous meter they were using earlier citing no amount of unit they purchase on it quickly exhaust which prompted them to go request for an outstanding bills on the meter and it was discovered that about 350k debt was on it incurred by the previous tenants.

I don't want such occurrence on the new meter so I want to act fast.

Please I will like someone knowledgeable about metering stuffs to please take a look and possibly give next line of action..

Dere is big difference... First of all check if the meter is owing outstanding bills, then u hv to minimize somethings because as u use that's how money will be going, for the beginning it will not be easy bt as time goes on u will get use to it

You're very correct on whether he wins or lose in court, the landlord will force him to park out. I'm in such dilemma too.. Just moved into a 2 bedroom flat and discovered when I wanted to recharge units that there is debt of 100k plus on my meter's account. Brought this development to my landlord's attention who said he has no business with it and that I should go sort it out. Now for every recharge I make, I'm being deducted 60% of the amount I pay to offset bill while I get 40% worth of electricity unit.
I won't say pim.. What I'll do is be settling of the money, when I know I am ready to move out of the apartment I will use months worth of that 100k before I move out.
Sometimes one needs to deal with unscrupulous peeps in their own coin.

Be innovative. Find ways to conserve power. Switch off power from the change over when you're not around. There are times when you really don't need power on. One of my friends uses one AC from the living room to cool the entire house (apartment though). Everyone just opens the bedroom door to collect share.
