In our age when nothing seems permanent the idea of being permanently separated from God strikes people as too final. We wonder, shouldn’t there be, perhaps, a second chance? No wonder the belief in reincarnation is so popular. It gives people the false hope that if they ruin this life, they will get another chance, and another, and… This is not picture the Bible presents. It presents us with one life per person, a life that can be used in the service and worship of God or a life that is lived without God. God made us free, able to make moral and spiritual choices. So we can’t really accuse him of “sending people to hell,’ as if he took some delight in punishing us. Far from it! But since we can- finally and forever say ‘No’ to God. “As sure as l live, say the sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, o people of Israel! Why should you die? Ezekiel 33: 11 You can enter God’s kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for they are many who choose the easy way. But the gateway to life is small, and the road is narrow, and only a few ever find it” Matthew 7 : 13 |

Every staff and student of the University of Lagos will get a personal laptop each by the end of March 2009 at subsidized rate through a Partnership for Technology Access (PTA) with Microsoft Incorporation Limited. This was disclosed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Tolu Odugbemi, FAS, NNOM, OON in an interactive session between the University and a representative of Microsoft Incorporation, Mr. Martial Nogbou, held in the Senate Chamber on Friday, November 7, 2008. The plan of a computer to one staff, one student is in line with the vision of the administration to give staff and students access to be connected to the information superhighway. Speaking further at the interactive session, Prof. Odugbemi quoted from Page 18, item 6 of “Actualizing the University of Lagos of Our Dream” which is a publication on his vision and mission for the University of Lagos as follows: “Computer Literacy and Internet/Intranet Services will be a priority. Efforts would be made to expand the current capacity and distribution, students to be given access to connection in the hostels and academic areas through secure means, and all offices to be connected. Efforts would be made to activate and ensure the use of campus wide intranet. The University website to be updated on a daily basis and made more interactive. The University would liaise with various agencies to ensure that all staff can each own a personal computer or a laptop, which can be purchased on instalment. Computer laboratories will be maintained to ensure that our students have easier access. On line lectures will be encouraged” The Partnerships for Technology Access is to create new opportunities for students and staff to carry out research activities. It is aimed at delivering benefits of technology to traditionally undeserved population. The partnership with Microsoft Incorporation, which is the brainchild of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tolu Odugbemi, is being handled by the CITS Management Board under the chairmanship of Prof. J. A. Adepoju. |
