Your words and your actions can have effects on a woman that will last her a lifetime. That cruel comment you made about her mother , that day you were so angry you called her out of her name , those times you ignored her for no reason at all , the times you chose not to text or call and decided your friends were more important than she was , the times you didn ’t open her car door, or walk her to her front door like a lady, she carries those in her mind . And she carries them over to the next man. Women remember every nice thing you do or say in the same way they remember every pitiless thing. When you are good to a woman, even if it ends for whatever reason , she will always remember you. You may never know that, but she will . She will think about the way you made her laugh or the way you dried her tears . She will remember the way she could speak to you for hours. She will remember that you made her feel like a woman , that even when she was wrong , you still made her feel like a woman . You will be the standard for all of the men in her life that follow . If they can ’t compete with you or do better , they become bottom of the barrel. You are the man whose shoes no one has yet to outshine . Continue to be that man because there is a woman who is going to adore you and appreciate you for everything you are worth . A woman may choose to stay with a man who treats her badly because she fell in love with him during a time when he was pretending to be pleasant (somewhere in the beginning stages of their relationship ) . However , she won’ t last with a man who is malicious for the rest of her life . Over time, every mean or hurtful thing that man does will begin to build up inside of her like boiling water . That woman who was once in love and who once catered to her man ’s every whim will begin to fall out of love . She will become less caring , and less nurturing . Her heart will grow colder . He won ’t see it, not until it is too late. He is blind and will continue to mistreat her . An ignorant man will seal his own fate. He will think its okay to treat his woman this way . She loves him so she is sure to stay. That man has no idea that his woman has an icy storm brewing inside of her heart. Where love once lived is a heart now torn apart. She loves him so much or so he believes . He knows she will stay , but what he chooses not to see is her mind has already broken away. So you have an option . Treat your women right or don’ t , but when you end up alone and can ’t figure out what was the matter just remember that woman whose heart you shattered. You can never take away the words you said . They will live with her until the day she is dead . So watch your words and be kind , not cruel , or you may end up sad and lonely. There is only so much one heart can handle ; only so much one girl can handle before she breaks. Most women truly do not want much. It isn’t a lot to send her a good morning text. It isn ’t a lot to call her on your free time. It isn ’t a lot to take her out on dates and spend one on one time with her. It isn’t a lot to watch your mouth. It isn’t a lot to treat her like a woman. She will love and adore you for it. There is a saying that whatever you give a woman she will give you ten times more . That saying couldn't be truer. So if you want to be adored, and spoiled and loved , you must stop being vicious, selfish, and rude. Nice guys do not finish last . Truly nice guys get the girl in the end. At the end of the day , no matter how much money you make or how many muscles you have , a woman looking for real love is going to find her worth , along with a man who deserves her. Your money will be spent , and your looks are sure to go, but if you have a good heart , love can flourish. So be the nice guy or risk losing your women to men who are far better than you ever could be. This does not mean that you allow yourselves to be treated badly either , but it means opening your heart to good women. It means being a compromising person. It means being forgiving , and nurturing … the kind of man who would make a good husband and father. Do not be a doormat for a woman who does not appreciate you; however , if your woman loves and adores you, be kind because if you don ’t , you will lose her in the end. https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/how-a-man-treats-a-woman-matters-a-lot/new/#new |
In a country where its citizens are decrying the spate of corruption in its government , it is hypocritical if the citizens themselves are no better. Considering the bad name given to Nigerians , two citizens who have proven that Nigerians are not all bad showed their honesty by returning a bag of money to its owner. The airport security guard Achi Daniel , and his supervisor, Francis Emepueaku returned the valuables and declined a reward from the owner and have been mocked by people for being “stupid”. Although they are not affected by the mockery since this is not the first time they have returned valuables to their owners. They have been commended for their honesty by President Muhammadu Buhari and awarded a scholarship worth N 250 ,000 by their security company. Why are they being mocked for their honesty? Does it mean that Nigerians are hypocritical about changing the country for the better? https://www.nigerialog.com/random-thoughts/why-is-honesty-mocked-in-nigeria/new/#new |

Medications are substances / drugs used for treating diseases and maintaining health. Drugs may either be prescription or nonprescription drugs. Prescription drugs require a physician’ s prescription before they can be purchased and a major example is antibiotics , says Pediatrician Osueni Gold Oseluese . “On the other hand , nonprescription drugs ( also known as over- the - counter drugs) don’t require a prescription before they can be purchased, for example , paracetamol, vitamins and cough preparations .” Dr. Oseluese said that self -medication means diagnosing and treating one’s ailments without a physician’s prescription. Sometimes, it may involve the use of leftover medications from a previous illness Purchasing prescription and non -prescription drugs are both considered as self- medication , if they have not been prescribed by a physician for that particular illness. Most surveys have shown that over 50 per cent of parents self - medicate their children irrespective of socioeconomic status, level of education and geographic location. In developed climes , the drugs most used are paracetamol , ibruprofen and cough / allergy preparations whereas in developing countries like Nigeria , the most purchased drugs are paracetamol, analgesics, antibiotics and antimalarial. The use of antibiotics without a due prescription from a physician can be considered as irrational drug use and is a major risk factor for the emergence of antimicrobial resistance especially in developing countries like Nigeria . She revealed that another topical issue would be the use of herbal concoctions. A study in Aba , South Eastern Nigeria in 2015 by Okonkwo and Chapp- Jumbo showed that 26 .2 per cent of the children studied received herbal concoctions before arriving at the hospital and there was a significant risk of mortality in these children . “Most parents would say the commonest complaints for which they would chose to treat their children without a physician’s input included fever, cough and catarrh , frequent watery stools and abdominal pains which are very common symptoms in the first five years of a child’ s life . Unfortunately, most of the time , this sometimes leads to double prescription like giving two brands of paracetamol with different names and irrational use of antibiotics because they are under the wrong impression that is the cure for all childhood ailments. Unfortunately, most illnesses, especially in young children , are of viral origin and antibiotics would have no place in their treatment. “Although self -medicating is believed to be cheaper and more convenient by the parents who practice it, the disadvantages far outweigh any possible benefits especially in children. Children are most vulnerable to the untoward effects of medications and would be the ones to suffer the brunt of the emerging menace of antibiotic resistance Imagine a world where bacteria strains are no longer susceptible to all the available antibiotics and unfortunately, pharmaceuticals are not able to create new ones fast enough .” The pediatrician noted that other dangers involved in self- medicating children would include under estimating the illness and ending up with lasting complications and even death in many cases . Overdosing or under- dosing of these medications can result in longer admission time , treatment costs and even death. Sometimes parents treat every symptom the child has and end up with a profusion of medications that really do not benefit the children. Some of these drugs could have harmful interactions with one another . So what is the way forward ? “ There needs to be an aggressive educational intervention for prescribers, distributors and consumers of all medications especially prescription drugs like antibiotics . Even the use of nonprescription drugs needs to be regulated as their abuse can have devastating consequences , especially for children. Strict policies need to be put in place to limit the availability of antibiotics without a prescription . The Primary healthcare facilities need to be running effectively to curb this menace at the grassroots . And ultimately , with a sustainable and functional health insurance scheme, prompt and comprehensive healthcare can be offered to our children, reducing the need for such a harmful practice ,” Dr. Oseluese added . https://www.nigerialog.com/health/self-medicating-your-child-stop!/new/#new |
One of the journeys most frequently asked about is the trip from Nigeria to Ghana. Here's all you need to know. Despite our Jollof wars , Nigerians and Ghanaians are very fond of each other. In the past few years, there has been an influx of tourist Nigerians to Ghana than ever before. Ghana has great street food, great tourist markets and amazing people. Thinking of taking a trip to Ghana? We've compiled information for what you should expect and things you would need for the trip. Documents you need To travel from Nigeria to Ghana by any means, you need a valid international/ECOWAS passport and a yellow card. It is very advisable to get your yellow card before travelling as it is very important and can be a means by which officials extort you. You can get the yellow card for about N1000 at the Port Health office close to the international airport. It is also advisable to have your another means of ID like a drivers license or a student/work ID, and your accommodation details. Choosing your means of transport A flight from Nigeria (Lagos) to Accra averages at 1 hour 10 minutes. However, if you are going by road, brace yourself for a full 17-24 hours on the move (consider your bladder). The journey from Nigeria to Ghana by road is quite a long one but it's the scenic route, so brace yourself for the adventure. There are different ways to cross, if you choose to go by road, you can either choose to go directly with a transport company or hire out a taxi that will take you. For an intense budget trip, you could consider hitchhiking. Money moves Hopefully, by this time, you have already created your budget for the trip. After knowing the amounts you have to spend, best bet is to have your naira in raw cash and prepare to change it for Ghanaian cedis at the Aflao border, which is the border between Togo and Ghana. Travelling with US dollars is a good idea too because even if you don't change it at the border, you can find any Bureau de Change in town and change it for cedis because dollars is widely accepted. Some hotels also accept USD but you can hardly find one that accepts Naira. It is also important to keep up with the exchange rates so you won't get cheated. Naira fluctuates crazily too. It might be scary hanging on to such huge amounts of cash but this is your best bet unless you have a dollar Mastercard , because your naira cards will not work in Ghana. Crossing borders If you're going by road, there are three borders you have to cross. The Lagos-Cotonou border, the Cotonou-Togo border and the Togo-Ghana border. Crossing the borders mean a lot of stress, negotiation and "settlement", especially if you are a first time traveller or you have a "virgin" passport. Most times, if you are using a transport company, they will take care of the crossing logistics for you. However, if you plan on crossing the border on your own, brace yourself for a lot of paying-offs you would have to do at all the stops. Have a wonderful trip! https://www.nigerialog.com/travel/all-you-need-to-know-about-a-trip-from-nigeria-to-ghana/new/#new |
Diabetes is a chronic disease which affects millions of people around the world. It can sometimes cause blindness, kidney failure , heart disease and other serious conditions. The stage known as prediabetes is the point where a person’s blood sugar levels are high but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes . While diabetes developed from genes cannot easily be avoided , here are five ways to prevent diabetes in general : Drink coffee or tea Research has advised sticking to water as a primary beverage . However , studies have also shown that adding coffee or tea , which contains an antioxidant known as polyphenols, in your diet may help protect against diabetes. Cut down on sugar and carbohydrate intake A quick way to develop diabetes is from a huge intake of sugary foods and carbohydrates . To avoid getting the disease , cut down on these foods . For people with prediabetes , the body’ s cells are resistant to insulin’ s action. Therefore , the sugar remains high in the blood and can lead to progressively higher blood sugar and insulin levels until the condition eventually turns into type 2 diabetes. Drink lots of water Water should be taken more often . This helps you avoid other beverages that are high in sugar , preservatives and other questionable ingredients . Studies have also found that increased water consumption may lead to better blood sugar control and insulin response . The brain comprises nerves and nervous tissue. It sends signals through the nerves and the spinal cord to every part of the body using electrical impulses. In epilepsy, there is a surge of electrical activity in different parts of the body . This leads to a variety of symptoms , usually a seizure , but can be as inconspicuous as a loss of attention during an activity . About 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy. Anyone can develop epilepsy as it affects both males and females of all races , ethnic backgrounds and ages . But most common in the following people : • Males . • Children under two. • The elderly. • People with a family history of epilepsy. • People who had seizures as children. • People who have had a stroke. Epilepsy is NOT contagious . When you have a single seizure episode , it does not mean you have epilepsy. However , two episodes of unprovoked seizures not due to a known and reversible medical condition suggest epilepsy. Epilepsy is a lifelong disorder . Seizures can either affect one part of the brain ( known as focal seizures ) and sometimes affect the whole brain ( generalised seizures ) . Seizures may last from a few seconds to several minutes. Epilepsy has no single cause in some people . In others, it is attributed to a few factors which may include genetic abnormalities , brain tumour , head injury , infections , injury at birth, brain diseases like a stroke , AIDS , etc. Symptoms seen may include uncontrollable jerking , repeated twitching of one or both limbs, staring uncontrollably , loss of awareness or confusion , loss of continence, alterations in the sense of taste , smell , sight and tingling sensations , sudden bouts of chewing or repetitive behaviour , and periods of unusual behaviour. An epileptic attack may be triggered by stress , bright lights , loud noise ,illness, caffeine and certain drugs , and a lack of sleep . Having a seizure at certain times , like while driving or operating equipment may lead to serious injury or death . Treatment is only carried after a due consultation and examination . An electrical “analysis ” of the brain ( Electroencephalogram or EEG) is carried out alongside blood tests to make a diagnosis . Other treatment options include avoiding triggers , diet modification and surgery . https://www.nigerialog.com/health/understanding-epilepsy/new/#new |

The struggle to get a job after graduation is very daunting, but if you understand what it takes to be employed in Nigeria, you will start prepping yourself for a career now rather than waiting for the post-NYSC reality to dawn on you. Instead of focusing only on your undergraduate programs, it equally important you start paying attention to your future career and begin to put the pieces together now. Here are five ways you can start preparing for your future career while you still attend classes. 1. Look for experience-based learning The knowledge you gain from the textbook is quite good, but if it's not giving you the practical aspects of what you learn from it, you'll have to put away the books and look for experience-based learning. Take advantage of training, workshops and internship that is related to your future career. 2. Start freelancing If you have no place to intern, consider freelancing. You can freelance as a writer, graphic designer, social media manager and so on. If you have a digital marketing skill, trust me, you won't regret freelancing for any organization. 3. Find a mentor Don't ever ignore the importance of a mentor in shaping your future career. Get a mentor who will inspire you and teach you knowledge and skill that will be useful for you in your future career. 4. Build and maintain your network Building a network is very important to getting employment these days. It will be to your advantage if you start building and maintaining it from your undergraduate days. You never can tell where you'll be interning or serving before or after graduation. Build your network, believe me, it works. 5. Join a club While campus clubs serve as a way to engage undergraduates and keep them together to learn from one another, it can also be a great platform for you to meet people and also gain connections with career professionals. https://www.nigerialog.com/nysc/how-to-prepare-for-your-career-while-in-university/new/#new |
This Sallah is a period of celebration marked by bleating of rams all over the country and the mooing of cows. If you've bought yours, here are the different ways you can prepare your ram meat for the season. Eid el-Kabir , or Eid el-Adha or Big Sallah as it is fondly called, is the occasion that Muslims sacrifice an animal, usually a ram, cow, or camel, to commemorate Prophet Abraham’s great act of genuine submission to the will of God. In doing so, a portion of the meat prepared is for yourself, another portion for your neighbours and friends, while the last portion is for the less privileged. You can decide to spice up your portions with any of the following: 1. Dambu nama Dambu nama is a delicious, spicy-savoury Northern Nigerian dried beef floss. The dried, shredded meat floss can be eaten as a snack or sprinkled over rice or stuffed inside bread. It also goes along so well with masa. However, preparation is very time-consuming. Cooking time : 30-40 minutes Ingredients Ram meat Seasoning cubes Chilli powder Onion Garlic Yaji (suya spice) Vegetable oil Ginger powder Directions Boil the ram meat with the spices and onions till it is very tender i.e. it falls apart. Make sure the taste is quite right. Then, you can shred the meat by continuous turning or by pounding or using a mallet or rolling pin on a chopping board. After shredding, add some more spices (yaji, seasoning cubes, garlic and ginger), heat up oil in a large pan and shallow fry. You can do this in batches and takes anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Getting the right texture for the ‘dambu’ is crucial. If the oil is not hot enough, the shreds will absorb most of it giving a greasy result. If the oil is too hot, the beef becomes dry and crunchy, instead of soft and chewy. Best to try a few small batches and work out your preferred texture and flavour. 2. Peppered fried meat The peppered meat is very easy to prepare and a very delicious snack. Cooking time : 1 hour 20 minutes Ingredients Ram meat Red Bell Peppers/Tatashe or Shombo Green peppers Black pepper Onions Scotch Bonnet (Atarodo) Vegetable Oil Seasoning Cubes Beef seasoning of your choice Curry Thyme Ginger Garlic cloves Minced Salt to taste Directions Wash your meat and boil for 20-30 minutes with salt, thyme, seasoning cubes, beef seasoning, onions and black pepper. While the meat is boiling, chop up all the peppers or blend lightly. After the meat is boiled, deep fry the meat till succulent. Heat up some oil and fry some onions and garlic before putting in the pepper mix. Add seasoning cubes, curry and salt and adjust to desired taste. Then add the fried meat and stir. Leave on low-medium heat for 10-15 minutes. 3. Barbecue/Grilled ram meat Grilling is a healthy way of preparing meat . It involves marinating the meat in flavours, slicing the meat slim and placing on direct heat. Grilling gets rid of excess fat on the meat. To spice it up, you can kebab the meat. Cooking time : 1 hour 10 minutes Ingredients Ram meat Barbecue sauce Yaji (suya pepper) Honey Minced garlic Dry ginger powder Dry/fresh rosemary Paprika Cayenne pepper Stock cubes Salt to taste Directions After marinating your meat in a foil for 30-45 minutes, place on the grill (still in the foil) for about 15 minutes. Remove from the foil and put some more marinade on the meat. Place directly on the grill for another 10 minutes on each side. 4. Peppersoup You can make use of the ram head and legs to make a peppersoup. The ram head is scraped, washed and cut into essential pieces and prepared as normal peppersoup is made. https://www.nigerialog.com/food/see-the-different-ways-you-can-prepare-your-ram-meat-for-sallahileya/new/#new |
Solo travel in Nigeria is an experience one has to have at least once in a lifetime but there are many things that one should not to do when travelling alone in Nigeria. Many dread solo travel due to the many myths surrounding it. When other people do it on Instagram, though, it looks fun and you think, "why not?" These are the things Instagram doesn't tell you not to do when travelling. 1. Being unprepared for simple health emergencies You might find yourself having a headache or a running stomach from something you ate or even malaria. Because you will be alone, it's either you get health insurance or take some medicine along the way. You don't know what a tablet of Imodium or Paracetamol can do for you on a trip. It is better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. 2. Not researching the area Research is very important no matter where you are going to. It is good to know the language spoken in the area, cost of living, cultural and religious practices/requirements, mode of dressing, weather, security, etc. This will save you unnecessary harassments and distress that come from unpreparedness. 3. Not telling family and friends about your itinerary Spontaneous travel is fun and all, but try as much as possible to keep your family and friends in the loop about where you will be and what you will be doing. If not family and friends, at least let your hotel or host know what you will be up to. 4. Not staying updated on security in the area There are some places in Nigeria with on-going security concerns. When visiting such places or surrounding states, it is very important to stay updated on the security of that area and its neighbours. Also, stick to the curfews, if any. 5. Travelling during nighttime Many places in Nigeria do not have street lighting, so it is advisable to travel during the daytime. Not to mention robberies, cattle, bikers and just general bad roads that can be a good recipe for accidents. Though night buses are more time-efficient, it is not advisable. 6. Not being familiar with the language If you are going to a state or town whose language is different from yours, get familiar with the language before hand or get someone who knows the language to act as a tour guide. For example, when going to Northern Nigeria, Hausa is the predominant language spoken in those parts. Do not underestimate the power of knowing a language in a foreign land as it can save you from danger, being cheated and other difficulties. 7. Taxis If possible, use taxis for locations far away from main town. Do not leave it up to chance. 8. Telling strangers about your place of stay This is very important. You never really know people's intentions. If it comes up in conversation and it seems iffy, you can mention a vague location far away from where you are staying. Also, don't tell strangers you are travelling alone. This is probably more useful for solo female travellers. You can say "I am meeting a friend at the end of destination," or "someone is waiting for me." 9. Not being mindful when boarding public transport Be very mindful of scam artists and pick pockets in these areas. Always be mindful of your luggage and don't take your eyes off it. There's this common scam at local parks, especially in the east, where the bus is fake loaded with passengers to give the impression that the bus is about to depart and then the fake passengers alight one by one to accommodate real passengers, which makes waiting time take longer than anticipated. Be mindful/prepared for this. 10. Not being open-minded If you're around people, don't be scared to mingle and be friendly. If you are in a taxi, try to make friends with the driver too. Best bet is your best experiences and stories are hidden in interactions with strangers. https://www.nigerialog.com/travel/what-not-to-do-when-travelling-alone-in-nigeria/new/#new |

Several research studies have shown that black women are three times more likely to die from a pregnancy -related issue than white women. While there is access to quality healthcare in some developed countries, the same cannot be said of Nigeria . With 87 million of her citizens living in abject poverty, the country accounts for 14 % of the world ’s maternal mortality deaths ( the highest in West and Central Africa ) . Out of this number , the World Health Organisation ( WHO ) states that only 40 % of women in low -income countries visit antenatal care units . Yet , the average Nigerian family has an average of 5. 5 children and continues to give birth due to societal pressure. In March this year , Bill Gates, founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, named Nigeria as one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth. Just when one would expect the government to pay attention to the Health sector in the country , the 2018 Nigerian budgetary health allocation is 3 .9 % . According to RedCare , this means that “only N1 ,888 will be spent on each citizen the whole year .” These statistics show that the argument that a woman and her child’ s health is important is defeated by the Nigerian condition which continues to fight against the basic means of survival . One must question if Nigeria is ready to improve her healthcare system to come to par with hospitals in various developed countries . After all , some developed countries ’ health policies actively cover insurance policies for her citizens , including immigrants. With the continuous out troop of her qualified doctors to seek for better lives. This begs the question : how does Nigeria want to grapple itself from this threatening problem ? https://www.nigerialog.com/health/assessing-maternal-health-in-nigeria/new/#new |

The unlawful sale and use of pre -registered of SIM cards has continued and is now hobbling the efforts to get the true identities of mobile phone users in Nigeria . The sale or use of pre -registered of SIM card carries a fine or jail term or both , according to the Nigerian Communications Commission ( NCC) . For a telecom company , each pre -registered SIM card attracts a penalty of N200 ,000 and for a user an imprisonment. Despite the fine and arrests of some sellers in some parts of the country , the sale and use of pre -registered of SIM cards is still widespread . In effect , criminally - minded people are utilising other peoples ’ identities or fraudulent information to register and distribute SIM cards that are bought by innocent subscribers and criminally -minded ones for the purpose of committing fraud without being traced as the number they use do not bear their identities. Prof . Umar Garba Danbatta , executive vice chairman , NCC, said that Nigerians must stop selling pre - registered SIM cards because it is an act of illegality that undermines national security. According to the NCC, rather than patronise the criminals who peddle pre -registered SIM cards , the public should report them to law enforcement agencies as part of their responsibility , not only as subscribers but also as good citizens. Elsewhere, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris , inspector general of police , described the sale and use of pre - registered SIM card as a severe threat to security sector and governance. He said : “These criminal activities, including use of pre - registration subscriber identification module SIM cards should be of concern to all of us . As a law enforcement officer , it is my belief that in addressing these challenges, we must re -strategise on our noble programme of community policing across communities and give our communities greater stake in securing national assets . But industry experts insisted that there is a need for NCC and the Mobile Network operators to step up education on pre -registered SIM to the populace. In addition to what the NCC has done , experts confirmed that it is time for both service providers and the regulator ( NCC) to collaborate and stop every person bent on derailing the registration process through the sale of pre - registered cards . Chuks Arubalaeze , a telecom lawyer said that cards that have also been pre -registered by wrong persons also need to be identified and destroyed because when they fall into the wrong hands . “The consequence could affect the process and have a devastating effect on National security” she added . The sale of pre -registered SIM cards is unethical and fundamental crime. The implications of the sale of pre -registered SIM cards cannot be over emphasized, as innocent citizens could be wrongfully implicated due to the indiscriminate use of the pre registered SIM cards arising from its sale to seasoned criminals and no good individuals , seeking to perpetuate one form of crime or the other. https://www.nigerialog.com/metro/sale-use-of-pre-registered-sim-cards-booms-despite-fines-arrests/new/#new |

When on a diet, it is important to still get proper nutrition to power you through the day. This is where breakfast comes in. It is not overstated that it is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast is vital and important, and even if you’re on a diet, it should not be skipped. It should, however, be nutritious and filling. Here are some simple breakfast ideas for people on a diet. Oatmeal Oats are filling and healthy, but often boring. Have no fear, this is not just oatmeal. You can add to the health index of this plain meal with some sliced apples, grapes, pineapples (and just about any fruit that catches your fancy). The fruits substitute for sugar, and some coconut milk can substitute for whole milk. Finish off this rounded meal with some plain yoghurt, and you are set for the day. Protein Proteins are an excellent way of getting energy without filling up on carbohydrates. Plant proteins are easier to digest and healthier. Start with some moi-moi, prepared with fish, tomatoes, plenty ginger and garlic with a side of sautéed vegetables. Balance this with some freshly squeezed orange juice (or a smoothie of your favourite fruits). This breakfast works most on weekends. Delicious and filling. https://www.nigerialog.com/food/simple-breakfasts-for-people-on-a-diet/new/#new |

Culture evolves and undergoes various alterations over the generations . This changing nature cuts across various aspects like dressing and traditional rites . Yet , one of the few things that have remained unique over time is the value and influence of natural creatures on man . In Igboland , certain items are revered and considered sacred to the community . This is what guides the belief of totemism, a system where humans are said to have a mystical relationship with a spirit -being . Because of this , religious taboos and laws have controlled the socio -political activities of Igbo communities . The Igbos generally revere certain plants and animals , but this varies depending on the part of Igboland . In Eha-Amufu in Enugu, Ebe ( the spirit of the river ) controls the fish in that particular river. The big fishes are the counterparts of the principal men of the village - group and so, when a villager dies , a fish dies , and vice versa . It is also a taboo to fish in that river. Likewise , the deification of pythons is common in Idemili , Anambra State . It is generally believed that the pythons are representatives of the gods of Idemili. In the Afikpo area of Ebonyi state , the Oziza group deifies crabs and so , the indigenes cannot eat or kill crabs . This list also includes animals like tortoise , monkey, crocodiles , alligators , butterflies and snails . Plants are also part of this cultural practice. There are tons of trees , some marked using red or white clothes or others left empty but still with huge significance. These trees are regarded as spirits, mediums or curative elements . The okosisi ( Iroko tree) is one of these trees . Others include ogirisi , ofo , oji, udara and akpu . There are sacred groves and other trees, including the sycamore and the baobab , used for religious purposes or associated with God and other spiritual beings . The 21 st century has seen a lot of changes . There are a lot of human activities responsible for causing environmental changes which may , in turn , hurt animal and plant species. These activities, not limited to deforestation and hunting , have affected the observance of these totem animals . While the locals who have utmost reverence for these plants and animals have kept them from being endangered and going extinct , there is still a lot of work to be done to create a balance in the ecosystem. A notable means for the preservation of some of the distinct animals from extinction is by maintaining a viable and ultra modern game reserve as a tourist attraction. This will in turn create revenue, thus killing two birds with one stone. https://www.nigerialog.com/culture/much-ado-about-totemism-in-igboland/new/#new |
One area most people tend to neglect is their health . They forget the saying “health is wealth ,” that no matter how much money one has , without good health , the money is worthless .And like money, you do not know the value of health until you lose it.One way of staying healthy this year and beyond is by having regular checkups. A Check -up is important because it could detect a life -threatening disease like a heart condition in its early stage , enabling treatment to commence on time before it becomes fatal . How often you should have a checkup depends on many things, including your age , general health , and whether you have risk factors for certain problems . At a routine checkup, your doctor will ask you questions about your health , diet and lifestyle . He will listen to your heart, lungs and other vital organs and will likely check your weight and vital signs like blood pressure and temperature. Height and Weight Whether you go for a regular physical or for some other checkup, your doctor will likely check your height and weight . He is doing that to measure your BMI, or body mass index. Keeping your BMI in a healthy range helps protect you from problems like heart disease , type 2 diabetes , some types of cancer, and more . Your BMI is based on a formula of height and weight . A healthy BMI is between 18 .5 –24 . 9. If you’re not in that range , your doctor will suggest ways to get to a healthy weight . Blood Pressure Your blood pressure rises as your heart beats and falls as it relaxes between beats . It’s a measure of the pressure of the blood in your arteries . Too high can lead to heart disease and stroke . Normal blood pressure is less than 120 over 80 . Doctors define high blood pressure , also called hypertension , as 140 over 90 or higher . Medics often recommend you get your blood pressure checked regularly especially those prone to hypertension . If it’s high, you’ll need to get it checked more often . Ask your doctor how often you should have your BP checked . Cholesterol This is how much fat is in your blood . High cholesterol can lead to heart disease and stroke. If you are middle -aged or above 65 and overweight and thus prone to heart or blood vessel disease , it is advisable to have regular checks to prevent full blown cardiovascular diseases which can lead to strokes or heart attacks. Talk to your doctor about what ’s best for you. Blood Sugar Test This is a way to check for diabetes or pre - diabetes . Health practitioners often recommend getting tested starting at age 45 . The test is strongly recommended even for younger people especially those that are overweight or have diabetes risk factors like high blood pressure. Then you should be tested at least every year or more often, depending on the results . It ’s a simple blood test that measures the sugar ( or glucose) levels in your blood . Skin Check It’s a good idea to check your skin regularly for any changes in moles, freckles, and other marks. The American Cancer Society suggests you do a skin self- exam once a month. Most skin cancers can be found early that way . And when they ’re found early and treated, they’re almost always curable. If you or someone in your family has had skin cancer before, it might be smart to have your skin checked regularly by a doctor. https://www.nigerialog.com/health/stay-healthy-with-regular-check-ups/new/#new |

Twins, but not quite. Here are some quick differences between Puff Puff and Buns, Nigeria's favourite twin pastries. Puff puff and buns are very similar, being that they are both balled-up pastry that is deep fried. They also have very similar ingredients. However, they require different levels of skills to prepare. While Nigerian Buns is richer in flavour with crunchy exterior and pillowy insides, Puff Puff takes a more oily form, soft inside and out. About Puff Puff Puff puff is a deep fried, spongy street snack that is not peculiar to Nigeria. Known as Bofrot in Ghana, Mikate in Congo, Kala in Liberia and Mandazi in East and South Africa, it is a fun-filled snack for people of all ages. It is also a favourite when it comes to small chops at parties and events. In Nigeria, people have been known to make their puff puff with a twist, adding pepper, chocolate, fruits, and lots more. The process of making puff puff isn't a difficult one, as it has less ingredients and requires less of the level of mastery that buns does. Still, it is exciting in its own way. To prepare puff puff, you need: Flour Yeast (the fast rising type) Nutmeg Sugar Warm water Vegetable oil About Nigerian Buns Buns is also a popular street food in Nigeria, with the difference being the addition of eggs, butter and milk to make it crunchy on the outside while pillowy-soft on the inside. Sometimes, they are called "Rock-hard Buns" due to how hard they are on the outside. To prepare Nigerian buns, you would need: Flour Sugar Eggs Baking powder or yeast Salt Butter Milk or water Vegetable oil So, which is your favourite in the Puff Puff vs Buns wars? https://www.nigerialog.com/food/puff-puff-vs-buns-what's-the-difference/new/#new |

It’s been said over and over again that you never can tell what will happen when you open your mouth and let your intentions be known to the man or woman you have a crush on. Whether you are a woman or a guy, it is important that you shoot your shot. But when you shook it and it is repeatedly blocked, you need to know when to give up and test your throwing abilities in another hoop [we have to keep up the shot throwing metaphors, right?] One downside of this shot-throwing spree, particularly for women, is that this brings a lot of players to the yard; a lot of different guys who all slide in DMs with the hope of scoring big! In the list below, we categorized these men into five categories and you will find all of them in every girl’s DMs. 1. The pervs At least 7 out of every 10 girls active female social media user must have come across one, two or more of this kinda guy. This one will flood women’s inboxes with unsolicited dick pics and will only share sexual content he finds online. He is usually very relentless and always ends up getting called out publicly, cussed out privately, blocked or sometimes, he gets a furious combination of all three. 2. Too-lazy-to-type This one types all the time like he never has time to converse. He’ll abbreviate even a two-letter word. He’s the one that changes the word from ‘OK’ to ‘K,’ forgetting that OK is itself an abbreviation already! Depending on the babe in question, though, this guy may not be that bad. 3. Boyfriend material These are the guys that every babe expects when they say "you can slide into my DM." This guy says hi in a decent way and strikes mature and smart conversations. He’s witty, makes you laugh. Drops good comments on your pictures, sends funny memes to you, but also educational ones and posts about stuff he thinks you may like. Many times, they’re so sleek that you’ll be the one offering your Whatsapp number, and asking for a meet up. This doesn’t end well all the times though. But the chances of it ending in a great relationship is far higher than that of others. 4. Mr. Persistent It does not matter how many times you say no to this one, he won’t go away. He has decided, just by viewing your Instagram feed, that he loves you and he wants to date you. No matter how long or how hard you say no, he won’t be dissuaded. Throwing a block at him is the only way to shut him up. [Oh well, that’s if he doesn’t open another account for your sake] 5. The asshole This is the one who gets angry when you refuse to reply his messages or say yes to him. He switches up from the good guy act he had when he was hopeful of a relationship or a hangout and begins to call you names and all sorts the moment you reject him. https://www.nigerialog.com/romance/5-types-of-guys-in-every-girl's-dm/new/#new |
