Health / Mysterious Disease Kills 15 Youths In Delta Community by GIdiata(m): 4:48pm On Nov 01, 2020
Residents of Ute Okpu and Idumesa communities in Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State have been thrown into fear, following the mysterious deaths of over 15 persons within 18 to 25 years age bracket in the past two weeks in the area.

But the State Government has assured residents of the area that it would do everything possible to curb the disease.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye gave the assurance, Sunday when he led a team of public health officials to Ute Okpu with the view to unravel the mysterious disease that has claimed the lives of over 15 persons.

Ononye said: “Delta State Government has received information on seemingly mysterious deaths in Ute Okpu and Idumesa communities of Ika North East Local Government Area of the State which prompted the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, to direct the State Ministry of Health to immediately investigate these deaths, identify the cause/causes and effect containment measures”.

Briefing the Obi of Ute Okpu, HRM Obi Solomon Chukwuka I, of the Governor’s directive to upgrade the Comprehensive Health Center in Ute -Okpu to a full fledged Hospital, he called on members of the community and residents of the State to observe good hygiene as the dry season approaches “by properly covering their food, cutting grasses around their surroundings, eliminate rats in their houses and continue to observe the COVID-19 safety guide lines especially hand washing with soap and running water.

The State Epidemiologist, Dr. Richard Ikwuogu, said his office had sent officers to the community immediately the information reached the Ministry of Health, adding that the active case search that commenced the previous day continues.

Ikwogu said his team has visited the families of the affected persons in the community and also the cases in the hospital in Umunede, collected their samples and interviewed them.

He said though a suspicion of viral hemorrhagic fever, or substance abuse, the outcome of the test on collected samples will give clear information on the disease and that will determine the next line of action.

On his part, HRM Obi Solomon Chukwuka I, thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for giving the directive for the health center in his domain to be upgraded, expressing relief that government’s intervention through the visit has brought hope to them and assurance that the disease would be curbed.

He assured the Commissioner and his team of the co-operation from him and his subjects and encouraged them to feel free and let him know of any challenge they may come across when interacting with residents of the community.

In the Commissioner’s entourage were the Zonal Medical Director Agbor Zone; Zonal Hospital Administrator Agbor; State Epidemiologist; State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer (DSNO); Executive Secretary, Health Ika North East LGA; Council’s DSNO and Health Educator; two
representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) among others.

Crime / LOOTING: Ayade Bans Transportation Of Scrap From Cross River by GIdiata(m): 3:30pm On Oct 28, 2020
Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has ordered the
immediate suspension of transportation of scrap of all
categories out of the state.

The is coming on the heels of the massive looting and destruction of public and private properties as well as businesses in Calabar by hoodlums last week.

Vanguard learned that most of the items that were looted
by hoodlums were being transported out of the state in
under the guise that those items were scraps. The
suspension contained in a statement issued Wednesday, by
the governor’s Special Adviser, Media & Publicity, Mr Christian Ita warned transporters not to aid anyone in whatever guise to transport any item out if the state.

He said: “It has come to the attention of the governor that
in a desperate bid to escape arrest, criminals and their
masterminds who callously looted government and private
properties have now resorted to moving such items out of
the state disguised as scraps.

“Consequently, the government hereby places an immediate
ban on the transportation of scraps of all categories out of
the state”, he stated.

The governor also directed all transporters and motorists in
the state to report anyone that approaches them to move scraps out of the state to security agents.

He further warned that any of them caught transporting
looted items will be regarded as an accomplice and treated
as a looter.

Crime / Enough Is Enough, Reclaim Public Space, Restore Peace Now IGP Orders Officers by GIdiata(m): 8:06pm On Oct 24, 2020
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, Saturday,
ordered the immediate mobilization of all police operational
assets and resources to bring an end to the wanton violence, killings, looting and destruction of public and private property, and reclaim the public space from criminal elements masquerading as protesters in some parts of the
country.

According to the Police spokesman, Frank Mba, the IGP
gave the order to all Assistant Inspectors General of Police
(AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs), Heads of Police
Operational Units, Squadron and Base Commanders in
charge of Zonal/State/FCT Commands, the Police Mobile
Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and the Special Protection
Unit, today 24th October, 2020. In addition, CPs/Heads of
Police Formations in the various states have also been
charged to mobilize their men and work in sync with the
Command CPs in the areas where they are domiciled, to
dominate the public space and ensure peace and safety in
the affected areas.

The IGP, while noting that enough is enough to all acts of
lawlessness, disruption of public peace and order and wanton violence which have resulted to indiscriminate looting of shops, malls and ware houses, damage to property and loss of lives in some parts of the country, further directed the Police strategic managers to personally lead and coordinate the operation and use all legitimate means, to halt further slide into lawlessness and brigandage.

The IGP enjoined law-abiding citizens not to panic but rather join forces with the police and other members of the law enforcement community to protect their communities from the criminal elements.

He further called for the understanding and cooperation of
the citizens assuring that the action was geared towards
ensuring public order and safety and public security in our
communities.

The IGP however warned trouble-makers not to test the
collective will of the nation by coming out to cause any further breakdown of law and order.

Crime / Re: Police Kill 5 Looters In Ikotun, Arrest Scores by GIdiata(m): 12:01pm On Oct 23, 2020
Reference:

You are too dull to be a productive citizen. Instead of calling for calm you are asking for an escalation of the violence. Didn't you read that a police informant was lynched. Don't you consider that these policemen are citizens too and live in local communities. Don't you consider that they and their families can become targets for violence off the job or will they be on patrol forever.

There are levels of incidents and peculiar scenarios that call for reason. Looting is not a capital offence and under no circumstance should people be shot for that except if the police protecting such premises come under armed attack. I'm afraid the causative and lessons of the past few weeks are lost on the authorities and folks like you but like we always say, Nigerians don't learn in classrooms with the brain but in hospitals with the pain.

Citizens outnumber the police almost 1000 to 1. That is not a position of strength by any estimate. It calls for cerebral action not stupid brutality. This situation is about to get very dark, ugly and can easily go underground in just the same way the misadventures of the Katsina police a decade ago plunged Nigeria into a crises engulfing the whole north east, costing trillions of naira and thousands of life.

The police never learns.

you made sense. I agree with you we need calm. BUT THOSE COMMITING THOSE CRIMES ARE THE REASON THE CALM WE SEEK IS NOT COMING.

SO I repeat, any crimanal or group attacking and LOOTING INNOCENT PEOPLE AND going to break prisoners out OF PRISONS

I CALL ON THE ARMY, POLICE, MOPOL to gun them down.

headshot will do just fine.
