After spending more than 10 years in Lagos State, I should be able identify the traits and behaviours of many Lagosians, that’s why I am here to expose to you, some 5 traits you would find in many Lagosians. Lagos at night. In every state in Nigeria, there are some traits and behaviours you would find in the people inhabiting the area and people living in Lagos are no exception to this, in fact Lagosians have unique traits and behaviours that would make many people want to come to the city to witness it. Now let’s head on to the main point that brought us here, and it’s the 5 traits you would find in many Lagosians, irrespective of their gender. 1. Lagosians are Always Busy: The business of Lagos people is one thing that distinguishes Lagosians from other people living in other parts of Nigeria. 24/7 you would see someone hustling without rest. It’s very hard to find Lagosians just having enough time for themselves, let’s a relaxing somewhere very cool at least once a week although this happens once in a while during festive periods. 2. They Wake Up Early and Sleep very Late: There is an adage that says “Early to bed and early to rise” but Lagosians would always disobey the first part of the adage. Even if you wake up by 5 am in the morning you would still find some shops open around Ogba, Ikeja, it’s a norm in Lagos to find such things happening rather than my state’s capital where civil servants go to work by 9 am and return back home as early as 4 pm. That’s why you would realize that if a person from Lagos relocates to a town like Calabar, he would find it hard to adapt to the environment and this goes vice versa for some who lived in Calabar and relocates to Lagos. 3. They Could Be Very Arrogant Sometimes: It’s hard to find a Lagosian who just too cool and takes everything calm. Just try stepping on the toes of a random person in Lagos and before you open our mouth to say sorry, you might have being insulted. Not all Lagosians are arrogant, but many of them have the trait of being arrogant, due to stress, depression and many other problems. 4. They are sharp: It is actually hard to find a hardcore Lagosian, who is dull and does not take things seriously. Lagos is just like an open field where everyone tries to play his or her own game of being the smartest, while some may be good others may want to use their to exploit from people I may better describe as “Jolly Just Come”. If you have a business idea or you need to achieve something fast, you can head on to Lagos and very smartly and you would find out that you would achieve success easily. 5. They Spend A lot: The last but not the least trait you would find in many Lagosians, is that they spend so much in the city. In Lagos there’s lot of competition, everyone wants to show off. The poor wants to be rich, the rich want to be richer. In many cities in Nigeria, there are few people who have more than a car they use but in Lagos state, everyone wants more and more cars and everyone wants to take it out, maybe that’s one of the causes of heavy traffic jam in the city. Some people may end up living their whole lives in Lagos without remembering to establish something in their hometown, be it building a house or even starting a business. So if you are in Lagos and you haven’t started investing in your own community, you should start making plans to own at least an asset in your own community because a time is coming when you would be too old up with the Lagos hustle and struggle and you would have to retire to your hometown. I hope you enjoyed the article and also learnt at least one or two things that you can relate with the people living in Lagos state called Lagosians. http://www.lasgidionline.com.ng/2017/02/5-traits-you-would-find-in-many.html lalasticlala |

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, February 16, 2017, arraigned one Adetoro Fisayo Femi (a.k.a Bawa Mohammed Sanni) before Justice F. A. Odubanjo of the Federal High Court of Ondo State sitting in Akure, on a 6-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, conspiracy, forgery, uttering of forged documents, retaining the proceed of crime and money laundering. Adetoro however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him. In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Oluwatoyin Owodunni prayed the court for a trial date and for the remand of the defendant in prison custody. However, counsel to the defendant, A.O. Oyibanji informed the court of a pending application for bail served on the prosecution today. Justice Odubanjo adjourned the case till February 22, 2017 for hearing of bail application and April 12, 2017 for trial while the defendant is to be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of the application for bail. One of the charge reads: “That you, Adetoro Fisayo Femi (a.k.a Bawa Mohammed Sanni) and Olawale Ayeni (at large) on or about the 29th day of July, 2016 at Akure within the Akure Judicial Division of this honourable court did transfer and remove from your Wema Bank account to the bank account of one Ibironke Adebayo the sum of Four Hundred and Sixty Nine Thousand Four Hundred Naira (N469, 400) only, which money is part of the sum of Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (950,000) only you obtained from Straight Hold Global Services Limited and with the aim of concealing and retaining the proceeds of crime and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 17(1) (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibuited) Act No 11, of 2011 (as Amended by the Money Laundering (Prohibion) Act, 2012) and punishable under section 17(1)(b) of the same Act". Adetoro’s journey to the dock followed a petition to the EFCC alleging that the defendant and his accomplice, Olawale who is now at large, used the internet for fraudulent activities with which they fleeced unsuspecting victims of their money. Adetoro and his accomplice conspired and forged fake drivers license titled “Nigeria National Drivers License NO.RBS691520AB” in the name of Bawa Mohammed Sanni but bearing Adetoro’s passport photograph purporting it to have been issued by the Federal Road Safety Commission. The defendant thereafter altered the said forged document to one Ayodele Mary, a staff of one of the new generation banks (name withheld) with the intent that it may be acted upon as genuine in facilitating his operations and maintaining an account with the said bank. He further laundered N496,400.00 using one Ibironke Adebayo account and subsequently purchased a second hand engine for Amanda Jeep with the help of Olawale. http://www.lasgidionline.com.ng/2017/02/efcc-arraigns-internet-fraudster-in.html |
By Ati Terkula Only penultimate week the national media was sopping with news of the release and subsequently, more drowning the news of his triumphant entry into Delta state where he was welcomed by thousands of state indigenes who thronged the streets right to his home in hordes singing chants of praise and glorious victory songs at a man whom they called their leader and hero. James Onanafe Ibori was the Executive Governor of Delta state from 1999 to 2006 where as state marshal in-charge of its commonwealth, helped himself to the state’s largesse with reckless abandon. He was believed to have bankrolled the campaign of President Obasanjo’s successor, Late Umar Yar’ Adua and seemed to have believed in his invincibility until the administration started its war against corruption where he cried wolf tagging his investigation as politically motivated. Then came the call of the British Authorities who accused him of committing similar crimes in their land, thus the invincible Ibori had to answer the accusations, though not without the accompanying customary Nigerian shenanigans. He went, faced the law, was sentenced, served the jail term(not minding his political status in Nigeria) and has been released from a Uk jail after six years, earning him a triumphant entry. Today the same Ibori who looted 40 Billion Naira meant for building of Schools, Hospitals, Roads, salaries and other basic amenities; the same man who helped take Delta state back another twenty years became a celebrated a hero. Even though fresh news is rife that the Economic and Finacial Crimes Comission (EFCC) is said to have prepared a fresh 170 – count charge against him, it is rather ironic that from pictures splashed everywhere in the media the Nigerian society has lost all moral values in the kind of rousing welcome accorded a man who looted the future of millions of Deltans born and unborn, with same poor and less privileged whose futures were lavished celebrating alongside a good number of law enforcement officers, whose job it is to track crime- what a shame! Celebrating with the man who caused their predicament. I bet these same people will go about lamenting how their government and that of Buhari has visited suffering upon them. Today Benue state a microcosm of the Nigerian Nation, is in the same paradox. Only yesterday I read stories of how two prominent members of the patito’s gang styled clique were arrested in Enugu state by the EFCC for taking part in the financial rape of Benue state and were bailed. The same write up called for solidarity welcome for these who in sane and normal climes would have been banished and avoided by any morally sane person as if inflicted by the seven plagues of Egypt. This is just one of such paradox. It is already a common sight to see the home of former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam turn into a Mecca of some sort whenever he is in town, as the poor and morally debased throng the house to pick stipends from him - monies that originally belong to them. This “would have been pariah” has become the toast of every burial in the state attending and making bogus speeches amidst spreading in sprinkles, the loot he grabbed from the state’s treasury. What a shame! The hunt and quest for prosecution for the loot 107 billion of the poor civil servant state’s money is gradually drowning in the longing of the people for stipends and the celebration of pilfery by the robbed. A quest which should be a project for the poor who are hungry, sick and deprived because eight long years were spent pillaging the state’s wealth and setting it back to the dark ages, are instead selling their birthright like the biblical Esau for red porridge. Nigerians and indeed Benue people shall remain in the same insensitive era of corruption and immoral acquisition of wealth as long as we slay our morality for crumbs from the king’s nay thief’s table and complaining shall remain our lot. Ati Terkula writes from Makurdi. http://www.lasgidionline.com.ng/2017/02/opinion-iboris-triumphant-entry.html lalasticlala |
As the protest by pensioners entered its second day, two members of the pensioners are feared dead as they slumped and passed out during a match to the Benue State House Of Assembly and have been rushed to the Benue State Teaching Hospital. Tears filled my eyes as I saw this elderly people for the second day running walk the streets of Makurdi demanding for their ten (10) months pension arrears. As they approached the gates of the Assembly to press forward their demands through the speaker of the house, they were pushed back by the security details saying that they were given others from above to deny them entrance into the complex. The pensioners resisted and were eventually allowed to enter. This is just to tell the Benue people how insensitivity and wicked this government is. The question here is this, what happened to their money as captured in the bailout remains a mystery? Please remember to pray for the quick recovery of the two Mr Sunday Agbo and Mr Lawrence Ateke.
