Politics / Fake News Can Lead To Genocide - Femi Adeshina by GidiParrot: 7:22am On Sep 05, 2017
Monday, Femi Adeshina the Senior Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity in an appearance on Channels Television said fake news about the Nigerian government making the rounds on the Internet are aimed at causing disenchantment and exposing President Mohammadu Buhari to ridicule and hatred.

He continued to say, there are many reasons why people will create and disseminate fake news but top on his list is mischief. In his words, 'there are many reasons; I can’t speak for those who are behind this development but I can hazard guesses why they do it. One will be pure mischief to just cause disenchantment in the country'.

'If you see the last line of that story, they said that the trip may not be unconnected to the President’s health. Can you just imagine that? I took time to read some of the reactions that followed that fake news and you could see people say all sorts of rubbish. That was their intention; so that they can expose the President to odium if possible. So, one reason is mischief. To cause odium, to cause disenchantment. Another reason could also be to de-market somebody. You want to de-market somebody and play up another person. Then, of course, another one is they want traffic to their website.' he said.

Celebrities / How I Escaped Being Shot On My Birthday – Angela Okorie by GidiParrot: 7:53am On Aug 26, 2017
By Lasgidi Online

Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie was almost killed on her birthday last week.

Angela in a chat with Saturday Beats revealed that she was accosted by men of the underworld after her charity event to celebrate her birthday.

She said,

“I am grateful to God for life. I am a humanitarian and I am always happy whenever I give back to the society. That was why I celebrated my birthday with the underprivileged.”

“My brother was driving and since the road was rough, he had to slow down because of a pothole. All of a sudden, he just told me to bend my head in the car because I was not concentrating. By the time I would realise what was happening, some armed robbers had double crossed us and they alighted from their cars with guns.

They approached our car and cocked their guns, ready to shoot. They almost shot us but before we knew it, some officers of the Nigerian Customs Service showed up from nowhere. They intervened and immediately, my brother seized the opportunity to zoom off. That was how we were saved.

“I believe it was God that sent those Customs guys to us because they were not on the road and they came out from nowhere. When I saw the robbers, I was scared but I had faith in God. I wonder what would have happened if God was not on my side.”

Agriculture / Lagos Acquires 32 Tonnes Per Hour Rice Mill From Switzerland by GidiParrot: 6:14pm On Jul 28, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday in Zurich, Switzerland led a team of the State Executive Committee members to sign an agreement with Bühler AG (“Bühler”), a leading rice-mill producer in the world, for the acquisition of a 32 tonnes per hour Rice Mill.

The Governor, who spoke shortly after the signing ceremony, said the development was in furtherance of his vision of enhancing food security and creating employment in the State.

It is estimated that the partnership would facilitate the creation of about 200,000 jobs across the agriculture value chain, while it would also bring about the cultivation of 32,000 hectares of farm land to produce rice paddy, equating to an estimated 130million Kg of processed rice per year (an equivalent of 2.6milion 50kg bags of rice).

Speaking further, Governor Ambode said the landmark event also provides the platform for the State to partner with other South West States in consonance with the region’s resolve towards achieving economic integration.

The Governor emphasized that the partnership with Buhler was in sync with his administration’s economic agenda of diversification of the nation’s economy and conservation of foreign currency reserve.

“The state of the art rice mill will be sited in Imota, Ikorodu and it requires 32,000 hectares of land for cultivation of rice paddy. This investment is expected to create thousands of jobs in rice value chain. In addition to the current arrangement with Kebbi State, Lagos would go into partnership with neighboring states, to ensure sustainable inputs for the mill and foster regional economic integration,” Governor Ambode said.

According to the agreement, the partnership with Buhler covers supplies and installation of the rice mill, including silos. It also covers maintenance and technical support as well as technical training of Nigerians in the ever growing sub-sector of the Nigerian economy.

The rice mill will be the single largest mill of its kind in Nigeria and is expected to be delivered within twelve months.

Aside Governor Ambode, other members of the State’s delegation included the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinyemi Ashade; Special Adviser to the Governor on Overseas Affairs & Investment, Professor Ademola Abass; Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Suarau Oluwatoyin; and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Olayiwole Onasanya.

Politics / Jennifer Tiza Tells IG Wala To Restrain From His Act Of Mischief And Foolishness by GidiParrot: 8:35am On Jul 23, 2017
Leader of the Nigeria's National Consensus Movement (NCM), IG Wala posted on his Facebook page stating that the acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai were supposed to apologize to the families of women police officers that were ambushed & abducted on Damboa road.

He went ahead to allege that the biggest distraction coming from General Burutai is the ultimatum given to the troops in Borno State to capture Shekau dead or alive in just 30 days.

Many of his followers didn't stand with him on the said post which made one of Benue's highly rated entrepreneur, Jennifer Tiza reacted to his post on her Facebook page too.

She wrote:

I see no reason why a sane Nigerian will come out publicly to insult and try by all means possible to ridicule the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and General Buratai. Because an insult to this two, is an insult to the Nigerian Army. Maybe for some coins as usual but this time around IG Wala, you're trading in the wrong path.

No Nigerian in his or her right senses will boldly say the Nigerian Army has not done well except for IG Wala who thinks otherwise and as a result, he has reduced himself to insulting The Acting President and General Buratai. IG Wala you're an elder and as such I expect you to behave or act your age, of course we understand the pain of losing out but again such is life, you can't always expect things to turnout as planned or to your favour.

Do not forget we know you were one of the grass cutters that Siphoned our millions in the north east recently and you IG Wala attempted to defend Babachir until his inglorious exit from the cabinet simply because he couldn't asses funds anywhere.
Again IG Wala an insult to the person of the Acting President and General Buratai Is an insult to all and that's why I write to urge you to restrain from this act of mischief and foolishness.

We can't continue to fold our hands and watch the likes of you drag the name of those who have given up their life, time, energy just so you and me can enjoy absolute peace to the mud, No.

I am Tiza T. Jennifer (An Entrepreneur) and I do not come from the lineage of soldiers but I am a concern citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Not just that I admire the courage of our Gallant officers. God bless you

Politics / LASG Launches Community TV To Scale Up Grassroots Development by GidiParrot: 6:57am On Jul 18, 2017
The Lagos State Government on Monday unveiled a new television programme tagged ‘Lagos Community Updates’ to advance development at the grassroots and engender active participation of the people at the local level in governance.

Speaking at the unveiling held at the State Secretariat in Alausa, Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Communities and Communications, Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, said the programme, which is billed to commence next Monday, would serve as a veritable platform for people at the grassroots to get first-hand information about activities of government, and also serve as a feedback mechanism for government to know the plight of the people.

He said the programme would also assist government and the private sector to know about the activities of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) who have initiated projects on their own but require intervention to complete such projects.

According to Bamigbetan, “The programme is first to bring to public limelight the activities of CDAs in terms of their initiatives for self-help and the way they are taking ownership of the projects and programmes of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode because the Governor has expressed his desire to partner with CDAs and CDCs in areas where they require support and collaboration.

“By developing a medium that is able to do this, we enable the government to also have first-hand-knowledge of the efforts of the communities, and therefore enable government and the private sector to intervene. Many corporate organisations have funds for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects but they do not know where to channel those funds and by bringing up these communities who have initiated projects on their own but require assistance to complete the projects, we allow the private sector to have an inkling into where they can direct their resources in terms of CSR.

“Through the programme, we will also let the government know that the job they have been doing also requires extra efforts because we will bring to the government the people who have initiated projects and want to partner with the government,” he said.

He said aside the showing of the programme on television, all the social media platforms have also been activated to promote the programme with the view to making the people aware of its existence.

He, however, urged all CDAs and CDCs in the State as well as the generality of the people to take ownership and full advantage of the initiative, and assist government in scaling up development, especially at the grassroots.

On his part, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde said the State Government was delighted to come up with the programme, which he said, would go round all the Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the State to showcase the activities of government and equally facilitate feedback.

Also, Chairman of Ojokoro CDC, Alhaji Amusat Azeez said it was gratifying that a programme which would help to highlight the plight of the people at the local level was coming into fruition in the State, just as he expressed optimism that the programme would help the State Government to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

“Governor Ambode is a Governor of the people who is always willing to help the people and I am sure when he sees the plight of the people through this programme, he will adequately respond in the interest of the people,” Azeez said.

Politics / LASIEC Clears 12 Parties For Council Poll by GidiParrot: 7:28am On Jul 13, 2017
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has cleared 12 parties for the July 22 local government election, it said yesterday.

Its Director of Publicity, Dapo Olatunde said in a statement that the parties met its requirements for the poll.

They were among the 23 parties that signified interest in the election.

The parties are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Action Alliance (AA), Alliance for Democracy (AD), Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, Kowa Party, National Action Council (NAC), People’s Democratic Movement (PDM), United Democratic Party (UDP) and United Progressive Party (UPP).

Olatunde said the names of qualified candidates had been displayed at the commission’s headquarters.

The commission, Olatunde added, has begun a three-day “Train -the-Trainer” course for its electoral officers across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.

According to him, the training, facilitated by the International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), is to equip ad-hoc staff engaged for the election.

IFES is a United States-based organisation committed to the deepening of democracy and international best standards in election management.

The organisation operates in more than 100 countries and is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Meanwhile, House of Representatives member, Bolaji Yusuf (Mushin II federal constituency) and former federal lawmaker, Senator Ganiyu Solomon have urged politicians to eschew violence during the forthcoming local government poll.

They and other stakeholders from Mushin Local Government Area (LGA) spoke at the weekend during the annual lecture of A+Vanguard held in Mushin..

Lead speaker Dr. Ferdinald Ottoh, in his paper, titled: “Towards violence-free election in Lagos: A post-mortem of June 12, 1993 election,” said key actors in political system must unite to avert violence.

He urged media houses to help consolidate grassroots election by publishing free, fair and balanced reports of unfolding events.

Ottoh, a University of Lagos teacher, charged the Lagos Independent Electoral Commission, (LASIEC) and the police to ensure that the electoral code of conduct is applied on any political party that foments trouble before, during and after the election.

According to him, if violence must be prevented, LASIEC must ensure that results of the election are released at least 24 hours after the poll, while the government must be ready to deal with perpetrators of violence.

Yusuf, who appealed for calm during the poll, warned that violence would take the state nowhere.

Solomon called on party members to embrace peace and work for the interest of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Coordinator, A+Vanguard, Oyeyemi Ayoola said the topic of the lecture was apt as the council poll draws near.

Politics / Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Condoles With Bisi Akande, Over Death Of Wife by GidiParrot: 7:11am On Jul 13, 2017
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday expressed sadness over the death of Madam Omowunmi Akande, wife of the former Governor of Osun State and All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Chief Bisi Akande.

Omowunmi, died on Tuesday at the age of 73 in a private hospital in Ibadan.

The Governor in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, described late Omowunmi as an epitome of humility, uprightness and one who was a pillar of support for her husband.

“She was a shining example of a virtuous woman, who stood by her husband through thick and thin especially during the period he was incarcerated. She kept the home front together and ensured that his absence did not affect their children adversely,” the Governor said.

While praying for the peaceful repose of her soul, he urged her husband, Chief Bisi Akande, to take solace in the fact that she has gone to a better place and draw strength from the joyful years they shared together.

Governor Ambode also commiserated with the children and relatives of the deceased, just as he prayed to God to grant them the fortitude to bear the great loss.

“On behalf of the good people of Lagos, I want to express our heartfelt condolence to the family of Chief Bisi Akande on this great and irreparable loss”, he said.

The initiative replaces the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC).

Speaking at the soft launch of the CLI held at Agege Stadium, Governor Ambode who was represented by the State’s Deputy Governor, Mrs Idiat Adebule, said since the inception of his administration, sanitation had been given priority as it was important for maintaining a secure and more prosperous State.

According to him,

'to roll back sanitation shortcomings and accelerate seamless cleaning of our environment, the Lagos mega-city was in dire need of an enduring solution that would match the needed technology with the massive investment required for its attainment. “It is this void that the CLI has come to fill by creating an environment for the private sector to harness international best practice in the vital area of solid waste management and consequently free public funds for other beneficial uses'.

Sports / FIFA Bans Ghanaian Footballer, Samuel Inkoom For One Year by GidiParrot: 8:24am On Jun 24, 2017
Ghanaian defender, Samuel Inkoom who currently plays for Bulgarian club FC Vereya, has been banned by FIFA for one year for failing to settle the total outstanding amount owed to his former agent Andy Evans.

Following a contractual dispute between both parties, the 28-year-old was ordered by the Bureau of the Players’ Status Committee on 19 March 2014 to pay an amount owed to Evans.

On 15 December 2014, Inkoom was fined CHF 20,000 ($20,594) by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for failing to comply with the decision of the Bureau of the Players’ Status Committee.

The Ghanaian appealed the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s decision at CAS but the appeal was dismissed and the decision of the Disciplinary Committee confirmed in full.

Evans requested that the one-year ban is imposed on Inkoom in accordance with the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee after the final deadline granted to the player expired.

In a statement, part of the ruling from FIFA read:

“In view of the notification dated 20.06.2017, pursuant to item 4 the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee of 15.12.2014, DS of BFU imposed to Samuel Inkoom- a former competitor of FC ‘Vereya’ Stara Zagora punishment suspension of competition rights for a period of one (one) year or until the date of payment of the entire amount owed to the creditor,”

Celebrities / Ali Baba Blasts Those Calling For The Release Of Kidnap Kingpin 'evans' by GidiParrot: 8:52am On Jun 23, 2017
Veteran comedian and actor, Ali Baba, has angrily reacted to the calls for arrested kidnap kingpin Chikwudubem Onwuamadike aka Evans' to be freed from detention. In the post, which he shared on Instagram, the comedian also spoke on some of the societal issues facing the nation.

He wrote:
'I said it before, that we got here, where our country now stagnates, as a consequence of what we failed to do, what we allowed and a combination of all we did individually and collectively.

But most assuredly, as a result of letting evils in our society go unpunished. Someone goes into government, owning only a bungalow, comes out after a term in office with several properties, serious balances in their domiciliary accounts, several cars yet there is no way, that official's salaries and allowances can fund all those. And when questions are asked, it's witch hunting.

How much was your paid tax since you are the owner of all these wealth indicators? How did you make the money? Can you imagine some idiots are asking that a confessed kidnapper be freed? We are not talking petty thieves, who steal food to feed his family. Someone who caused families pain. Made the lives of their victims hell. And even got some killed. How do you people sleep at night?

I have a friend, a commissioner in Ogun State, whose father-in-law was kidnapped, the ransom was demanded and paid. Yet, over 5 or 6 years on, the body of the man has not been found. Did you see the robbers in the Zenith bank video that went viral? How can you listen to such heartless criminals and say it's ok to forgive.

How would the family of the police officer take it? Now you know why corruption is fighting back. All those who have survived through lawlessness and illicit businesses are the ones fighting back on behalf of corruption. Same goes for so-called unknown soldiers.

There is a disagreement, next thing a bunch of soldiers will hop on a vehicle raze down a police station, burn down a BRT bus, shoot and maim... And this happens every now and then. Yet no heads roll. That's why they will do it again. Herdsmen enter someone's farmland. Trample on planted crops, an on going business concern. Even schools. No consequences.

A legislator opens a colleague's head with a mace. No punishment. Someone kidnaps a sitting governor and brags about it. Nothing happens to him. You embezzle pensions of elders who served Nigeria. And walk free. You burst pipelines. And get Amnesty of 1.3m monthly. What do I know...

We Don't Need Your Jobs, We Will Create Jobs For Ourselves, Give Us Light - Aba Manufacturers Tells Govt As They Showcase Their Made In Nigeria Products

By Lasgidi Online

Here is a photo documentary by Omni Visuals on the locally made products in Nigeria with focus on Made in Aba products.

The photo-documentary is meant to create awareness and publicise the efforts of the struggling local manufacturers whose products experience low patronage by Nigerians.

Read below...

"We don't want your jobs, we will create jobs for ourselves with our brain. Give us light! Give us little grants and we will turn Aba to Dubai!". These were the words of Israel Ubah to the Nigerian government.

These manufacturers in Aba are known for manufacturing clothes, clothing accessories and many other things. This photo-documentary is meant to create awareness and publicise the efforts of the struggling local manufacturers whose products experience low patronage by Nigerians. Nigeria is extremely intoxicated with imported commodities which has made her ignore her inner abilities and empowering, boosting and improving on the locally made commodities so that they could be imported commodities from Nigeria for other nations as well.

When asked whether there is any support from the Government, Sunday Igwe who specializes in the manufacturing of female shoes said,"there is zero support from the government. He further lamented, "the materials with which we produce our products are expensive and we produce all these with manual labour. We need sophisticated machines too, we have assorted designs but we don't have machines, and manual labour slows us down. If only government can give us a no-interest loan...".

The recent contributions of the government towards the promotion of the patronage of made in Nigeria products must be commended. But we further urge the Nigerian government to kindly support these manufacturers so that they may meet the quality and standard requirements of some products which will bring about an increased promotion of locally made products in Nigeria.
