The National Assembly also adjourned plenary till Wednesday, March 13 after the members of the red and green chambers agreed to the adjournment on Tuesday in honour of the Oyo rep member, Temitope Olatoye, who was shot dead during the governorship election in Ibadan.

An Iranian couple have been arrested after a marriage proposal in public, on Friday, in Arak

The police say the pair offended Islamic mores on public decency but were later released on bail.

Mostafa Norouzi, deputy police chief in Arak, told the Shahrvand daily that it is unacceptable for the young "to do whatever is common in other places of the world and disregard mores, culture and religion" in Iran.

The pair's "offense is very clear and there is no need for explanation" about the reason for their arrest, Norouzi added.

Also, Fars news agency called the public proposal "shameful" and claimed it could promote "immorality." The agency demanded "harsh" punishment to stop such displays from being repeated by others.

Iranian hard-liners perceive public displays of affection as result of allegedly corrupt influence of Western culture that threatens morals in this conservative Islamic society. The Islamic Republic's strict rules forbid gender mixing in public.

Shortly after casting her votes during yesterday’s governorship and House of Assembly election in Lagos state, wife of APC National leader, Remi Tinubu, was accosted by newsmen who inquired from her what her next plan is since she will be going to the red chamber for the third time.

In her response, Mrs Tinubu said she aspires to be the next DSP, Deputy Senate President.


She lamented the participation of too many insignificant parties in the election, saying it makes it confusing and complicated for most of the illiterate voters, as well as money wasting and time consuming.

There is tension at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State.

The tension is as a result of a stand-off between officers of the Nigerian Army and those of the Nigeria Police Force.

At the time of this report, the area leading to the INEC office had been cordoned off and there is heavy presence of security personnel.

In a video going viral on social media, it can be gathered that the clash was as a result of supremacy battle over whether it was the Police or the Army that should secure the office.
