Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross Rivers State, on Thursday, September 26, 2019, convicted and sentenced 6 Facebook Hackers to one year imprisonment each, with an option of fine of Five hundred thousand naira (N500,000.00). The convicts are; Lawrence Nnamdi-Mba Ebesike, Prince E. Udeh, Chijioke Victor, Promise Odimba, Ugbor Ifeanyi and Prince Anthony.

They were arraigned on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 on separate one-count charge, bordering on impersonation and fraud, before the same court and they all pleaded "guilty". In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Usman Shehu, informed the court of the plea bargain agreements entered and executed by the prosecution and the defence.

The matter was thereafter adjourned to September 26, 2019, for conviction and sentence while the convicts were remanded in Afokang prison, Calabar.

Delivering judgement on Thursday, Justice Amobeda convicted all the defendants and sentenced each to one year imprisonment, with the option of N500,000 fine. He ordered that the convict "shall forfeit all the items recovered during arrest." The items are; 6 laptops, 12 sophisticated mobile phones, 1 International Passport, 4 Airtel Sim Packs, 3 MTN Sim Packs, 2 Glo Sim Packs,1 Smile Router and 2 Modems.

The convicts ran into troubles on September 2, 2019, when operatives of Uyo Zonal Office of the #EFCC arrested them in a two bedroom apartment, located on 54 Church Road, off Calabar Itu Express Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, following an intelligence report on their nefarious activities in the town.

During interrogation, the suspects said the apartment which served as their home and office, was rented by the kingpin, Ebesike, for the purpose of training facebook hackers.
Confessing to the crime, Ebesike who claimed to be a musician with the stage name 'Lawre Blue', gave a detailed account of how they carried out their operations on Facebook.

"I am into internet fraud. Part of how I operate is, I edit Facebook accounts, go to google and search for pictures of United State military personnel." .

CCTV shows Mr Ali, 35, landing several punches on the man, before also taking on his two accomplices who followed him into the house.

After being forced into the garden, one of the men threatened to kill Mr Ali before going back inside Ali's house and arming himself with what is thought to be a screwdriver.

But Mr Ali ran to the kitchen, grabbed two knives and chased them outside once more.

Mr Ali said his first thought was to protect his wife Charlotte, 30, who was upstairs in bed when the raid took place.

He said: "I was on a business call when I heard the dogs barking really aggresively.

"I went to see what was going on and there was someone standing there dressed head-to-toe in black. He threw a punch at me and we started to fight.

"I didn't know what I was doing. Instinct just kicked in - I just trying to get him out of the house.

"A second man came in and I thought he was trying to get upstairs where my wife was. I didn't want them anywhere near my wife.

"I got them outside, but they were pulling at the door, then one of them pulled out what looked like a knife, but the police think it might have been a screwdriver.

"He said 'I'm going to kill you'. He started to walk back towards me. I ran back inside and grabbed a couple of kitchen knives and chased them back out."

Mr Ali released the CCTV footage in order to catch the robbers and offered £5000 to anyone with information.

Organisers of the on-going Big Brother Naija reality show have announed that 'surprise eviction' will begin tonight, Thursday, September 26th as against the regular Sunday night evictions.

Currently, there are 10 housemates left in the house with barely 10-days to the end of the season and 5 of them are already nominated for possible eviction come Sunday.

The five housemates up for eviction are, Tacha, Mike, Ike, Elozonam and Cindy.

Seven suspects have been arrested by the Anti-Vandal Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Lagos State Command, for alleged involvement in oil theft.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, Paul Toge, Jeremiah Towhome, Joshua Dosa, Saraphim Husa, Segun Ayoola, Alabi Owolabi, Gbenga Azamesu and Sunday Sanni, were arrested on the Badagry waterway while they were returning in boats to Seme with about 250 kegs of 25 litres loaded with petroleum products.

It was gathered that one Ogunlolu Babatunde was apprehended on the Seme Road with a Passat Vento vehicle loaded with 40 kegs of 25 litres loaded with petroleum products.

The suspects were paraded at the NSCDC headquarters in Ikeja on Wednesday along with the exhibits recovered from them.

Dosa, who spoke to our correspondent, said he was engaged by a woman he simply identified as Aunty to convey the products.

He stated, “I am a fisherman. I was by the seaside in Seme when one of our customers, who we call Aunty, told us to help her convey some products and when I asked her what kind of products, she said petroleum products; because the fishing business was not going well, my colleagues and I agreed to convey the products since she was going to pay us N10,000 each.

“When we asked where we were going to meet, she said she would send a telephone number to us when we moved and when we called the number, the owner said we should call him when we get to Ikare and he directed us to where the products were by the waterside, but we were arrested around the Badagry area on our way to Seme.

Also paraded were seven other suspects – Musiliu Salaru, Oke Samuel, Hunga Augustine, Ojo Mekonu, Alawe Sibeko, Agosu Anthony and David Peter – who were arrested by the Nigerian Navy with 80 drums of 250 litres of petroleum products, 100 empty drums, two outboard engines and one pumping machine.

They were subsequently handed over to the NSCDC.

Augustine told our correspondent through an interpreter that an unidentified man contracted their boss in Benin Republic to help him convey petroleum products from Nigeria to their country.


He said, “We are from the Republic of Benin. Someone contracted our boss to convey the products and we came to Nigeria for that purpose. We were on our way when we were arrested by the Nigerian Navy in Badagry. Our boss didn’t tell us what we were to convey; he only told us that we should go and convey some products from Nigeria.”

The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Cyprian Otoibhi, who noted that the suspects would be prosecuted at the end of investigation, added that the corps would continue its fight against pipeline vandals and would ensure that their activities were eradicated.

As the Rivers State Police Command continues the manhunt for more serial killers of young women in hotels, some commercial sex workers in Port Harcourt have decided to get pepper spray to ward off attackers.

The commercial sex workers explained that since they were not ready to leave their trade, they were also not prepared to be victims of serial killers, who had been on the prowl in the state since July this year.

Last week, police arrested the prime suspect behind the serial killing of young women in some hotels in the state, Gracious David West, who confessed to the crime.

Asked why the news of serial killers on the prowl had not stopped them from the trade, one of them, who gave her name simply as Stacy, told Southern City News

that she and some of her colleagues had decided to get pepper spray to attack any man that would come after their lives in hotel rooms.

“I have been in this trade for a long time and when we began to hear about the killings of girls in hotels, some of us agreed to be moving with pepper spray. We will apply the pepper spray on them if they come to kill us,” she said.

Another commercial sex worker, who gave her name simply as Sabina, said she was not moved by the news of the serial killers, adding that she had plans to begin to mix pepper with water and put in a small bottle. “With the small bottle, I can target the eyes of the bad man. I cannot allow anybody to use me for rituals. With pepper in his eyes, I will shout and people will come to see what is happening,” Sabina stated.

But another sex worker, who gave her name as Miracle, told Southern City News that she had decided not to follow any man, who offers to pay more than the normal, adding that men, who were into ritual killings, always promise to pay higher for a night.

“The normal charge for a night is between N6,000 and N7,000. But if someone comes to me and says ‘I will give you N30,000 for a night’, definitely, I will not follow the person. Which man will pay a sex worker N30,000 for a night if he is not planning evil?” Miracle queried.

However, another call girl, who said she returned from Ghana last year, said though she had never gone to hotels with her patrons, the news about the killings of young women in hotel rooms had reinforced her belief that it was senseless following a man to his hotel room for sex till the following morning.

On how she manages to make money without following men to hotels, the young woman, who refused to identify herself, said she usually takes any willing man to the place (pointing at a place by her side around Casablanca), where they would have sex between 30 minutes and one hour. “I don’t follow men to hotels. Again, with this news about the killings of women in hotels, I will never follow any man to a hotel, no matter the amount he is willing to pay,” she stressed.
