A talented young boy has left Nigerians in awe on social media - According to reports, the boy constructed a transformer which people have been using to charge phones - The event reportedly took place in Aba, Abia state.

Nigeria might be described as many things to different people, but let it not be said that the country lacks talent. Talented and hardworking citizens are one thing Nigeria can boast of amidst the other ills plaguing the country. Even with limited resources and a society that can stifle anyone’s dreams, many Nigerians still find ways to break boundaries and do things that will leave others believing that truly, e go better. 

The report of a talented young boy who has built what they referred to as a transformer that people use to charge their phones. This remarkable feat took place somewhere in Ngwa road, Aba, Abia state. Photos of the work were shared on a Facebook page called Happy Africans as they urged people to celebrate the talented chap.

Former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has expressed that the hate speech and social media Bills currently being debated by the National Assembly are the greatest threats to Nigeria’s democracy.

These two Bill’s have generated mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some describing it as an attempt to take away the freedom of expression of the masses, while others argue that it is good to curb fake news.

Joining the debate, the former minister pointed out that the passage of those bills will undermine the democracy of Nigeria.

He wrote;

The Social Media Bill and the Hate Speech Bill are the greatest threats to democracy and freedom of expression in the history of Nigeria. If the National Assembly makes the mistake of passing either or both of these two Bills Nigerians will suffer the consequences for many...1/8

Said Jammal, the owner of the popular Aeroplane House in Abuja has explained why he built the unique residential apartment for his family.

The father of 6 said he built the Aeroplane house because his wife travels a lot. He further disclosed that he felt the building he started off in 1999 will give his wife the feeling of being in an aeroplane at all times.

Said's son, Mohammed told BBC Pidgin that his father began building the house in 1999, when he (Said) was 12 and they helped out in their own little way. He further disclosed that building is a legacy his father will leave behind.

The Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, says the only functional vehicle in his convoy is over 16 years.

He stated this on Wednesday at the inauguration of 50 fifty new Toyota Hiace buses for commercial transport.

He noted that out greed and lack of service to humanity by the previous administration made them to sell vehicles estimated at over N300m for N11m.

“The vehicle that brought me to this place was purchased some 16 years, during Goje era; that is the only functional vehicle of a governor. Because of greed, avarice and lack of service to humanity some people decided to auction functional vehicles in government.

“The governor’s vehicle that is worth N300m was taken away for N11m. I’m happy to say some have returned the vehicles. I will ensure that whatever is taken out illegally is returned to Gombe State. “ he said.

The Managing Director of Gombe Transport Corporation, Alh Umar Abdulsalam, said the measures put in by the governor would turn the corporation around for better.

In a surprise move wednesday, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the prefix “His Excellency” should no longer be attached to his name officially.

The governor, in a statement he signed renouncing the prefix, said “in the last five months that I have been privileged to exercise the mandate freely given to me by the great and hardworking people of Lagos State, it has come to my consciousness to review certain features of citizen-government relations which impede the genuine expression of the democratic spirit of our society and the meaningful exercise of the sovereignty of our people.

“The office of the governor has been celebrated as the paragon of excellence, a temple of perfection and a throne of purity. This demi-god mystique spreads over the entire machinery of the executive arm of the government, symbolising an authoritarian disposition on the governed. It has deformed the orientation of elected and appointed persons who are paid from the taxes of the people to see themselves as oppressors who can do no wrong and must be served, rather than serve the people.”

The governor added that for whatever reason, he’s human and should be seen as such. “Whatever might have been the reason for this myth, let us be honest, the office is occupied by a mortal who has been called upon to serve the electorate with humility – and sincerity. The office of governor is a public trust that calls for sacrifice, modesty and willingness to add value to the lives of the people.

“Fellow Lagosians, I have concluded that for us to change the narrative of governance, we have to strike down this seeming symbol of executive arrogance that commands popular obeisance and undermines the democratic role of citizens as the masters of those they have elected and appointed to
serve.”
It is a conviction that I believe will send the right signals to all politicians and civil servants that service to the people has brought us here. It is the duty we are obliged to do. It is the responsibility that we bear wherever we find ourselves; whenever we are called to serve.

“Only God, the Almighty, the Creator, the Protector is the Most Excellent. No man can share His eternal qualities.

“Thenceforth, I wish to be addressed simply as Mr. Governor, a title that will constantly remind me that I have been chosen out of so many fellow compatriots to lead a collective salvage of our political economy. A salutation that sanitises the paraphernalia of office and reminds us of all of our imperfections and mortality. To give official effect to this announcement, I shall issue tomorrow an executive order that will formally ensure full compliance with this new policy,” he said.
