'Can’t hold this Anymore..... it’s too much for me to handle.'

A mother of three, identified simply as Mummy Pelumi, has reportedly committed suicide at Mangoro area of Lagos State.

The woman, who is also a pastor’s wife, took her life when her husband was on evangelism. Witnesses said the deceased and her children were sleeping in their one-room apartment at Sule Street, Mangoro area of the metropolis, when she hanged herself to a ceiling fan in their room.

It was learnt that it was when the woman’s children woke up that they saw their mother dangling on their ceiling fan. They then raised the alarm which attracted neighbours and some mechanics.

Mummy Pelumi’s mother-in-law, who gave her name as Madam Modupe, said the death of her son’s wife came to her as a surprise. Madam Modupe said that on Friday, before she left for vigil, the deceased was the one who cooked the food everyone ate.

She said: “When we were eating, she told me she just stocked her shop, because of the social activities in our area on Saturday, so that she would not disappoint her customers who might want to buy drinks from her.

“After the vigil, I was still at the church resting when someone came to call me that my son’s wife had killed herself. By the time I rushed down, a crowd had gathered at our house. My son is a pastor and he had gone on evangelism, we decided to leave the deceased till Sunday believing she was going to come back to life.

“I was with her in the room throughout the period monitoring her closely believing that she was going to stand up. But when I noticed she had gone, it was then I called the pastors from our church who came to perform the funeral and she was buried on Sunday.”

Madam Modupe said they were about to bury her when the husband arrived from his evangelism trip. She added: “It was painful, because she was a nice woman to me and everyone that came across her. It is the neighbours who helped me to pacify the husband because he was just crying.



One of the neighbours, who gave her name as Blessing, said Mummy Pelumi’s death was painful to everyone in the house. Blessing said they were all sleeping when suddenly the first daughter of the deceased rushed out of their apartment and called neighbours to come and look at her mother.

She said: “When we got to their apartment, her tongue had come out of her mouth. The children were asked to leave and the door was locked. Policemen from Isokoko were informed.”

A couple have avoided jail after admitting selling illegal skin-whitening products online.

Jonathan and Holiness Ikpere are thought to have earned hundreds of thousands of pounds from selling banned bleaching concoctions from their home in Towpath Mead, Southsea.

They imported large quantities of cosmetics from countries in West Africa before selling them on and were caught in the UK's first national investigation into the online sale of dangerous skin-whitening products.


Jonathan Ikpere, a PhD student studying at Portsmouth University, set up various PayPal accounts to collect orders for eBay purchases, which had a turnover of more than £100,000.

Southwark Trading Standards, who led the investigation, seized nearly 3,000 illegal and dangerous skin lightening products from their home.

Paul Gander, team leader of Southwark Trading Standards, said: "The Ikperes imported a large volume of cosmetics from Nigeria and made a small volume themselves on their premises. A lot of this stuff comes into this country from West Africa, Pakistan and even China.

When officers raided their home they discovered a mixing bowl in the kitchen, where the couple's own brand of skin lighteners were being created. Holiness Ikpere even marketed the products with her own face on the labels.

The Nigerian police command on Thursday, October 3rd said they arrested an Abuja based comedian, Augustine Valentine, popularly known as `MC Fine’, over alleged spread of fake news.

Biodun Makanjuola, Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the force in Bwari, FCT, said Valentine posted a false report on facebook alleging the apprehension of a female kidnapper. “After investigation, we found the report to be fake,” he said.

The middle-aged woman, simply identified as Zulai, was attacked on Wednesday, around Zenith Bank area in Bwari, over the suspicion that she attempted to kidnap a two-year-old male child. The Police, who were quick to intervene, arrested the woman and, during investigation, found out that she was physically and psychologically unstable.

The DPO said while the investigation was going on, Valentine posted a misleading information on the incident, on the social media platform.

“When she was brought here, I asked my people to first take her to the General Hospital for medicals. They came back with a medical report indicating that she was suffering from depression.

The report also referred her to Karu Psychiatric Hospital for proper evaluation. Right now, we are preparing to take her there.

“We were still on the matter when I started receiving calls about a post on Facebook claiming that the woman was a kidnapper. The report claimed that her phone had message conversations on how many children to be kidnapped.

I made efforts and finally discovered who posted the story, brought him here for questioning, and he confessed he only added some of the details to add glamour to the story.”

The DPO, while expressing displeasure over the incident, cautioned against spreading unverified news, pointing out that such actions could cause negative impact on people involved and result into security breach in the affected community. “We are working with the affected families to douse the tension. This town can be volatile, so we are not taking anything for granted,” he said.

Valentine, who regretted his action, admitted that he was not at the scene of the incident when it occurred on Wednesday. According to him, the pictures and the alleged story were sent to him via Whatsapp, a social media platform, by an unknown number. He had earlier raised a fake alarm, through his Facebook account, that a woman was caught in Bwari attempting to steal a child who was playing with his mates around the Bwari market.

Valentine, on Facebook, claimed that “the crowd gathered, checked her phone which revealed how many children she was asked to provide by her accomplices”.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Isaac Promise.

“The former Nigeria striker, who helped the @NGSuperEagles claim silver at the 2008 @Olympics, has died at the age of just 31,” FIFA tweeted alongside a picture of the deceased.
