Didier Drogba will finally hang up his boots in 2018 as he prepares to bring his 20-year professional career to an end, the former Chelsea striker has told RMC.
After leaving Montreal Impact following the end of the 2016 Major League Soccer season, Drogba, 39, became the first player-owner in the history of the game when he took over United Soccer League outfit Phoenix Rising FC in 2017.
The 2012 Champions League winner scored 10 goals in 14 regular season games to help his franchise into the USL playoffs, where they lost to eventual championship runners-up Swope Park Rangers.

Drogba believes he has another season left in him, but after making his professional debut at Le Mans in 1998, the ex-Ivory Coast international, who will turn 40 in March, acknowledged it will be his last.

"I think next year will be my last season. There comes a time when you have to stop," said Drogba, who is reportedly aiming to follow in David Beckham's footsteps and attempt to launch his own MLS franchise.
"I need time for my other projects. It's good to play, but at 39, it holds me back a bit."

A Magistrate Court sitting in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State, presided over by Magistrate Abubakar Atiku has ordered that two accused persons, one Bashir Samaila and Faruq Abubakar, be remanded in prison for allegedly defiling minor and having anal sex with a teenage boy.

The accused persons were arrested by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Gwardu and Argungu towns of the state for unlawfully having sexual affairs with their victims which violated sections 245 ,283 and 284 of Panel Code.

First NSCDC Prosecutor, Felix Ogbeke, told the Court that on November 5, 2017, Faruq defiled a minor, who was sent to his shop to buy wheat by her father for their animals. The accused person grabbed the victim identified as Umuh and raped her.

The offence contravenes section 283 of panel code and asked the Court to adjourn the case to enable the Corps to conclude it investigation on the matter.

The second Prosecutor, Habib Sani, also informed the Court that “sometime in September 2017, Bashir unlawfully used his manhood to penetrate through anus of one Abubakar Muhammad, a teenage boy, without his consent in Argungu town,Kebbi State.”

He argued that, after he had committed the crime, he allegedly poured ‘chemical’, on the victim’s head, causing grievous hurt on his victim.

The offence, he said, contravenes sections 284 and 245 of Penal Code and prayed to the court to remand the accused in prison till next adjourning date pending the conclusion of investigations on the matter by the NSCDC.

The accused persons, however, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty.

While ruling on the matters, Magistrate Atiku ruled that the court has jurisdiction to entertain the first accused person’s case and ordered that he should be remanded in prison pending legal advice on the matter.

On the second case, Magistrate Atiku ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to try the accused person on natural offence (Homosexual), but said that the court would continue further hearing on the allegation of grievous hurt level against him by the complaint.

He, however, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison till November 20,2017 for further hearing.

For the first time in 69 years, the University of Ibadan (UI) has produced its first graduate with a First Class honours degree in History.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Idowu Olayinka said Ozibo Ekele of the Department of History was one of the 186 students who made First Class at the 2015/2016 convocation ceremonies, which began yesterday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Olayinka said 5,629 students graduated in various academic programmes from 12 faculties, including the Distance Learning Centre.

According to him, 186 passed with First Class honours, 1,538 finished with Second Class Upper, while 3,133 finished with Second Class Lower.

Also, he said 434 students made Third Class, while 81 others graduated with Pass degrees.

The vice chancellor urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university, saying they should impact positively on their world.

He noted that the students would have graduated a long time ago but for the strike embarked upon by the academic and non-academic workers’ unions.

According to him, the breakdown of the graduating list showed that 3.5 per cent and 28.6 per cent finished with First Class and Second Class (Upper) honours.

Prof Olayinka hailed Ekele for breaking the jinx as the department had never produced a first-class student since inception.

He said: “We warmly congratulate Ozibo Ekele, who is graduating today with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 6.6 out of a maximum of 7.0.”

A suspected ritualist, Yewunu Tanlaju, has confessed that he sold the severed parts of a 17 -year-old girl ,Taye Gusinu, to a herbalist for N8, 500.

The 35-year-old suspect allegedly killed the victim last Thursday in Idosemo, Ipokia, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State and then removing seemingly vital body parts.

Tanlaju while speaking with our correspondent at the police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital, said the victim was hawking puff-puff, and he lured her into an isolated area and murdered her.

The suspect was paraded with two accomplices, a herbalist, Olusoji Asamo and Joyi Suru.

Explaining how he killed the victim whose decomposing body was also brought to the parade ground, Tanlaju said he seized her from behind, tied her with a rope and slaughtered her.

Tanlaju said Taye was not the first victim he had killed. He said he had earlier killed a 40-year-old woman whose body parts he sold for N10,000.

He said, “It was this man (Olusoji Asamo) who told me to bring human parts. It was at that time I saw the girl selling puff puff in one school. I called her and bought puff pufffrom her.

“When she finished selling, she was going, I seized her from behind and tied her down and I slaughtered her myself. She attempted shouting but I blocked her mouth.

“This is the second time I am killing, it was in the same area but I was not caught then, it was the same Olusoji who requested for human parts then, although I didn’t know what he wanted to use them for.

“When I delivered the parts, he gave me N8,500 because we haven’t agreed on any amount but it was N10,000 he gave me when I delivered the first parts.”

Asamo confessed that the body parts were brought to him immediately the crime was committed, he, however, denied giving out the contract.

The State Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspects said they were arrested after a complaint by the father of the victim, Jimoh Gusinu.

He said the arrest was successful with the collaboration of the Ogun State Command of ‘Vigilante Service of Nigeria’.

The father of the deceased, who was visibly angry while speaking with journalists, demanded justice and warned that under no guise must the suspects be freed.

He said, “The government must also kill them, they are from Tube and I am from Ijofin, we ply the same road and I can’t afford to see police releasing them and I set my eyes on them again.

“If I set my eyes on them, I will not be happy and I will attack them with whatever I can get, the full weight of the law must be allowed to take its course.”
