The family of a four-year-old girl, Aisha Taiwo, has become distraught after she went missing during the monthly thanksgiving service at the national headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Ebute Meta, Lagos.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Aisha and her nine-year-old brother, Malik, accompanied their 60-year-old blind grandma to the church.

According to Aisha’s uncle, Abdulwasiu Esuola, the church had a combined thanksgiving service in the main auditorium.


The four-year-year old reportedly went missing when the children were called out for special prayers.

Efforts by the family to find her have not yielded any result.

Esuola said, “Aisha’s mother is my sister and she usually comes with her children to visit their grandma every weekend. Due to grandma’s visual impairment, it is only Aisha’s brother who usually follows her to the church. On Sunday, Aisha decided to follow them to the church because her mother, who worships at a different church, was attending the burial rites of a family member.


“Children usually worship at a different hall, but being a thanksgiving Sunday, the RCCG had a joint service in the main auditorium. When the children were invited to the altar for a special prayer, Aisha and her brother held each others’ hands but they got separated while returning to their seats and when her brother returned to where they were seating and couldn’t find her, he raised the alarm.”

The Oyo State indigene expressed disappointment in the church for not having closed circuit cameras on the premises.


According to him, officers at the Denton Police Station, Ebute Meta, and the Lagos office of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team said it would be extremely difficult to investigate the incident without CCTV footage.

Esuola said, “I was informed of the incident about 40 minutes after she was declared missing in the church and I immediately went to the church to request the CCTV footage of the premises. To my surprise, I was told that no CCTV camera was installed on the premises. All they had was only their media coverage which showed only the altar; there is nothing exclusive that the church has as a security measure.


“On Monday, I had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint and I went to the Lagos office of IRT and I was able to get a police report. We’ve been doing all we can as a family to find my niece and we expect that the church will also be swift in its response by setting up a committee on this unusual situation.

“I went to the church on Tuesday and a service was going on. I approached one of the pastors and I told him my grievances. While I was making my point, he said he wanted to mount the pulpit and I suggested that I should come back to see him at 2pm.


“Rather than tell me the time that would be convenient for him to see me, he said angrily that how could I just assume that he would be free anytime I chose to see him. The least he could do was to show some level of empathy.”

Esuola, who described Aisha as a quiet child and someone who does not mix freely, added that the complacency of the church in the matter was disheartening.

When the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, was contacted, he said efforts were ongoing to find the girl.

“The girl is actually missing. She went to the church with her grandma and we are still searching for her,” he stated.

However, the Head of Media and Public Relations, RCCG, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, said the church was doing all in its power to find the girl.

Olubiyi stated, “The girl and one other young person followed an old woman to the church. The woman is visually impaired and nobody in the church knew that anything had happened until much later in the evening. An alarm was raised immediately and the premises of the church were thoroughly checked.

“The pastor at the headquarters parish told me that between that Sunday and now, they had gone to the police station around to make a complaint; they have made fliers and they have gone to some radio stations. Together with the family, they are still working on finding the girl.”

Nigerian national, two others arrested in India for cheating women on matrimonial site

Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday, July 9, busted a racket involved in cheating women in the name of marriage proposal through a matrimonial website and arrested three accused persons including a 43-year-old Nigerian national.

Seven mobile phones, 11 SIM cards and one laptop have been recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Smart Egharevba alias Andrew from Benin City, Edo State and residing at Mahipalpur village Delhi, a lady from Jharkhand but living at Mahipalpur, and Balram from Karnal, Haryana.

Police acted on the basis of the complaint by a lady that she was allegedly cheated of Rs. 14 lakhs in the name of marriage proposal through the matrimonial website. The complainant alleged that in December last year, she received a request from a person named Dr Neil Seed Kumar through the matrimony website, who during conversation provided his WhatsApp number and his email address to the complainant.

Thereafter, the complainant and the said person started communication via WhatsApp chats and voice calls and the person subsequently told the complainant that he has been sending some valuable articles like gold and huge cash on her address.

However, on the pretext of custom clearance and other taxes, the said person asked the complainant to deposit money to the tune of Rs.14 lakhs in four different Indian bank accounts.

The Crime Branch team first arrested Balram from his residence in Karnal, Haryana.

"Balram disclosed that he provided the Debit/ATM Card of his bank account to an accused lady living in Mahipalpur, Delhi. On the instance of accused Balram, the lady was also arrested from Mahipalpur Delhi and during interrogation, the accused lady disclosed that she further provided an alleged account to one Andrew who also lives in Mahipalpur, Delhi. Thereafter, accused Andrew has been arrested on the instance of accused lady. He was living in Delhi illegally with his expired visa/Passport," stated a press release from Delhi Police.

Fans shared divergent views on social media platforms especially twitter following the epic and blunt diary session of Omasola, one of the housemates of the ongoing reality show BBNaija (S) 4.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 38-year-old model previously caught viewers attention for sharing an emotional life story and breaking down on Wednesday.

He however, switched into humour during his diary session, holding a blunt interaction with ‘Biggie’.

Omasola noted that most of the housemates spoke with foreign accents and were not as lively as he expected.

The Delta-born housemate, who spoke majorly in pidgin English, said he believes he will be a fan favourite because he is different, special and has a story to tell.

True to his words, the diary session seemed to increase his fan base as he was attending at number five on Nigerian twitter.

Some fans praised his sincerity while others felt he was trying to borrow the ‘Warri’ strategy from season two winner, Efe Ejeba.

Music boss, Don Jazzy also praised the diary session. He tweeted @donjazzy, “3 gbosa for that Omasola diary session abeg. #bbnaija”

Omasola said he once got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend and she turned him down!

Now single and focused on building his brand, Omasola comes into the Big Brother Naija House ready to make his dreams come true.

A young man simply identified as Jude was killed during a fight with his friend at Fatade street, Ijegun in Lagos state today July 2nd.

According to eyewitnesses, Jude and his friend who is a barber, had an argument over who would take the last gin they were drinking. The argument degenerated into a fight and the barber broke a bottle which he used to stab Jude on the neck resulting to loss of blood.

Jude was rushed to the Nifib Hospital in Ijegun where he was confirmed dead on arrival.

The barber is now in custody of the Isheri Oshun police station.

A prosecution witness, Ms Elsie Imaikop, on Tuesday told an FCT High Court that her ex–fiancé, an Abuja-based legal practitioner, Emmanuel Omattah, who bites off her index finger, also confessed to her that he had duped some girls.

The Office of Attorney-General of the Federation, charged Omattah who resides in Shagari Dei Dai, Abuja with eight counts bordering on assault, causing grievous hurt, intimidation and deceit.

At the resumed hearing, the witness who is also the complainant told the court during cross-examination, that the defendant confessed to her that he had duped some girls in the past.

When asked, why she did not run away from the relationship, she informed the court that he confessed to her at the tail end of their relationship.

When asked if it was a rod the defendant used to hit her index finger, Imaikop, emphasised to the court that the defendant bit off her index finger and hit her thumb with the rod.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that Imaikop, had told the court that she and the defendant had been in a relationship since 2012 and he proposed marriage to her.

She also reported in her witness statement on oath that she contributed to the successful completion of his vocational training programme at the Nigerian Law School.

She had also told the court that the defendant secretly arranged and got married to one police officer but kept deceiving her with promise of marriage.

NAN reports that the defendant is also accused of beating up Imaikop, tearing her clothes, and damaging her Toyota Camry.

The offence contravened the provisions of sections 342, 264, 240, 396 326, 391 113 and 114 of the Penal Code Law.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The trial judge, Justice Silvanus Oriji adjourned the case until Sept. 20, Sept. 27 and Oct. 31 for continuation of hearing.

The Rivers State Police Command says it has arrested nine persons in connection with the gruesome murder of two Mobile Police men around the Mile 2 Diobu axis of Port Harcourt, the state capital yesterday Monday July 1st.

The officers who were attached to a Beer Distribution Company, popularly known as “Paddy Man” located at Nwachukwu/Ojoto Street in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State. They were on their way to deposit cash for the company in the bank alongside some other administrative staff when they were ambushed by masked men who shot them dead.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni said the command swung into action immediately after the incident and has been able to apprehend the suspects.

The statements reads

‘’The Rivers State Police Command in less than 24 hours after the tragic killing of two Mobile Policemen at Ojoto Street in Mile 1 Diobu, PH, arrested nine (9) suspects, who are currently being investigated in connection with the dastardly act.’’

“Their arrest was made possible barely 12 hours after the Commissioner of Police, CP Usman A. Belel, issued a marching order to all the Commanders of the Tactical Units to arrest with immediate effect the perpetrators of the heinous crime.”

The police spokesperson appealed to the public to support the police with credible information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the gang.

“The public can therefore reach us through the following dedicated lines: 08032003524; 08098880134 and 08182157778,” the statement said.
