Elder and Barrister Imoh Williams, the chairman of Abak Local Government Area, was today, suspended by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly after his aides were captured on video assaulting an artisan. The Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel, on Wednesday condemned the assault, describing it as “unacceptable in a civilised society and does not represent our core values”. The assembly in a plenary on Thursday, directed Williams to proceed on indefinite suspension and mandated its committee on local government to investigate the incident and report back to the House within a month. The artisan, Godwin Abraham, was assaulted at the premises of the local government council in Abak, on April 13, 2019, by two men said to be aides of Mr Williams. They accused accused Abraham of taking to Facebook to “insult” the chairman because of some unresolved indebtedness – the artisan claimed he has not been paid N75, 000 for some decoration jobs he did for the chairman. There are indications that President Buhari might be considering the proscription of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as Shi'ites. According to Premium Times, the proscription, which is likely to come in form of an executive order, is expected to be made public before Wednesday July 24th. President Buhari convenned a meeting with security chiefs at the State House on Monday afternoon after the bloody clash and it was reportedly concluded that the Shi'ites group should be declared an illegal organisation in Nigeria. “This proscription will put an end to the madness of Shiites in Nigeria,” a source in the presidency said Another source said President Buhari would cite the Terrorism Prevention Act to ban the Shiite movement in Nigeria. The law was introduced under President Goodluck Jonathan to proscribe Boko Haram as a terrorist organisation and intensify the crackdown on its members. The mystery surrounding the missing ear of a baby at the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State, has been linked to canivorous rats. A police report released on Sunday, cleared the hospital, its management and workers from blame over the 2015 incident which left the deceased baby's family thinking it was for a ritual purpose. “This deals with a case of an alleged mutilation of a newborn baby girl’s ear reported to the Inspector-General of Police by Mr Solomon Igwe against Dr. Oliver Umeh, the owner, and staff of the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha. “On July 30, 2015, around 7.30am, Solomon Igwe, upon unwrapping the corpse, discovered that the right ear of the baby had been severed from the body. “He reported to the Central Police Station, Onitsha, where he accused Dr Oliver Umeh as being responsible for the missing ear. “While the investigation was ongoing, Dr Oliver Nnamdi felt dissatisfied with the police arrest and detention , and from one level of investigation to another as he was neither at the hospital during the admission/treatment and the death of the said baby hence, he petitioned the Inspector-General of Police. “The said petition was subsequently forwarded to the Commissioner of Police, Homicide Section, for harmonisation and consolidation," the police report read in part. It added “While investigation was ongoing, the parents made a demand for the sum of N10m for Dr Oliver Umeh to be vindicated, but he sensed a foul play and an attempt to extort and blackmail him using the then investigating team. “Consequently, he wrote a counter petition to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, urging the transfer of the case to Abuja for an unbiased investigation. “In the course of the investigation, statements of parties to the case were recorded and the scene of crime was visited. Detectives also viewed the corpse of the deceased baby. “An autopsy was conducted on the remains of the deceased baby, but the parents contested the outcome. “This occasioned the parents of the deceased baby to arrange for another pathologist, who conducted a second autopsy. “In the course of investigation, it was established that Mr Solomon Igwe and his wife, Bridget, brought their five-day-old baby girl to the Victory Children’s Hospital, Onitsha, as a referral case from St. Mary’s Hospital, Okpoko Onitsha. “It was also revealed that 45 minutes after their arrival, the baby died in the presence of the parents while on admission, but the parents could not collect the corpse on that fateful day, but on arrival for the collection of the corpse the following day for burial, it was discovered that the deceased’s right ear had been severed; they alerted Dr Amadi Ifeanyi of the development and subsequently reported to the police. Years after the police arrested some staff of the hospital, it was uncovered that rats actually ate the baby’s ear following results from the first and second post-mortem examinations conducted on the insistence of the father of the deceased baby. “Consequently, this evidently resolved the contention as to the cause of death and the severed ear. “There is nothing of evidential value linking Dr Oliver Umeh to the alleged crime in the course of investigation as no enough evidence abound on the allegation linking Dr. Oliver Umeh to any crime.” See more here; http://gistmore.com/rats-ate-dead-babys-ear-at-anambra-hospital-police

When Albert Flick came before a judge in Portland, Maine, in 2010, he was in his late 60s, and had spent roughly a third of his life in prison. . After doing time for killing his wife, he had assaulted another woman and gone back to jail, only to get out and attack a third woman. . Flick’s violent tendencies didn’t seem likely to go away with age, both the prosecutor and his probation officer warned. . But the judge chose to sentence him to just shy of four years in prison, noting that by the time he was released in 2014, he would be 72 or 73. “At some point Mr. Flick is going to age out of his capacity to engage in this conduct and incarcerating him beyond the time that he ages out doesn’t seem to me to make good sense,” Maine Superior Court, Justice Robert E. Crowley, had said. However, eight years after that hearing, Flick struck again, fatally stabbing a woman outside a laundromat in Lewiston, Maine, as her 11-year-old twin sons watched. . Now 77, he was convicted of murder on Wednesday, and, this time, it looks likely that he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. The charges carry a minimum 25-year sentence, and prosecutors plan to request that he be placed behind bars for life. Niniola Apata is many things weaved into one. Known for her energetic dance moves, the 32- year-old musician tells ERIC DUMO why she left the teaching profession for the entertainment industry. It was so much fun as I was raised in the same house with my brothers, sisters, cousins and others. We played pranks, engaged ourselves in fights, laughed and did several other things together. It was fun. My late father owned the school. With the way my father brought us up, there was no special treatment as he was a disciplinarian and wouldn’t accept anything less. So, as it was his school, he was still very firm with us. Looking back today, what aspects of your childhood would you say you miss the most? I guess that will be the good times I had with my father because I was his favourite child and I got all I wanted. No one could ever lay a finger on me back in those days. Before embracing music, what ambitions did you nurse? I worked as a teacher for a while. I taught during my teaching practice at Clegg Girls Secondary School, Lagos and I had so much fun with the girls before going to my dad’s school where I became a supervisor for a couple of years before music eventually took hold of me. Actress and fashion model, Amarachi Amusi, recently surprised her mother on her birthday. Sharing the special moment with her fans on her Instagram page, the actress noted that many people told her mother that she would end up as a prostitute, adding that she was grateful to God that the story was different today. In an interview with Saturday Beats, Amusi noted that what some people said about her in the past pushed her to make a success out of her career. She said, “It is very interesting when an individual is unpredictable. When I heard those things, I felt that my achievements in future would shock them. I felt they gave me a chance to surprise them, I knew I was going to get into school and do very well in my studies. They later realised that I was intelligent and not a prostitute. It motivated me and helped me to do better. “All the negative things they said about me motivated me to do better in my career. I am very hard-working and focused naturally. When you know people are expecting you to fail, you’ll make sure you disappoint them.” Speaking about her acting career, she noted that she switched to making skits on her social media pages when she discovered that the stress involved in movie production was not commensurate with the pay. “I don’t look for roles anymore; I only go on movie sets when I am invited specially to avoid being underpaid. Acting takes my time as a woman and I would need time for my family in future. For now, I am using my skits to chase my passion for acting. “The highlight of my career was when I started noticing a significant growth in the number of views my videos were getting; this was towards 2018. Before I knew it, I started getting contracts to run adverts for people,” she said. See more; http://gistmore.com/peoples-opinion-that-id-be-a-prostitute-pushed-me-to-succeed-amarachi-amusi

Singer and songwriter, Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, popularly known as Peruzzi, has said that he found it hard to believe his distant cousin, Chioma, when she said she was dating popular entertainer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. Peruzzi told Saturday PUNCH that around the time when Chioma told him about her relationship with Davido, he noticed that the ‘Assurance’ crooner was always showing love and support towards his songs and brand on his social media platform. He said, “After my mother’s burial; I was going home and someone sent me a message on Twitter, commending my song. The person asked if I remembered her. After she explained who she was, I remembered her. She told me Davido sent my song to her. I didn’t believe it. She further told me that they were dating and she is like my distant cousin, so I didn’t even see it coming. “I felt like how can she be dating Davido and I wouldn’t know since. She was able to convince me after she sent me some pictures; she told me he was going to be around the next day. She invited me to his welcome party and I went there around 2 am at Club 57. “Once Davido entered with his entourage, I was scared. He was facing me, but I didn’t know what to do. I moved to see him carefully. He looked at me and called my name. I was happy and I held him. He told me he loved my songs and that I should come to his house. That was the best night of my life. I sent Chioma a text; that I was with him. “I couldn’t sleep that night because I was too excited. She (Chioma) is my mother’s cousin’s daughter. But she is my cousin; that is how we refer to each other. I don’t have a proper contract with Davido; he is my guy so I am not worried about that. Some people have lived with him for years without any contract.” In the past, Peruzzi has been insulted for wearing Davido’s clothes, but when asked if he felt bad about it, he said there was nothing wrong in wearing his ‘guy’s’ clothes. He said, “How would you see something you like and you can’t tell your male friend that you like it? I told him I liked an outfit and he gave it to me. I have come to realise that no matter what I do, people would talk. I don’t let it get to me.” The singer, who left medicine to pursue a career in music, also spoke about some of the challenges he went through before he rose to stardom. He said, “I was born into a family where everybody sings. I have two sisters, and I am the last child and the only son. My dad bought me a piano when I was seven years old. The first song I ever learnt how to play was a gospel song. I was a member of the choir; I was born into a Christian family. “My dad was an engineer and my mum was a nurse. After high school, I went to university to study medicine and surgery. In my first year, I didn’t do music because I had to be serious. In my second year, I was at the dinner of a Valentine’s Day party and my guys set me up to sing. People liked my rendition and wanted me to continue singing. “I continued, and they started paying me to perform at shows. I started battling with doing music and medicine. I was doing it like that till my third year. After my fifth year, I had issues after my passport was stolen. I travelled to get a new passport and that was when Extreme Music contacted me. I was stressed out and decided to return to Nigeria. “I needed about $400 to complete the money needed for my flight ticket back to Nigeria and my girlfriend gave it to me. We packed my things together and she was even crying. I didn’t tell my father I was coming (to Nigeria); I only told my immediate sister and mother. When my father saw me, he thought l came home for a holiday. “When he realised I left my studies, he called a family meeting. I had to leave the house and rent an apartment close to the house because I still needed food from home as I didn’t have money at the time. There was no pocket money coming from my father anymore. “My mum used to send me food. I tried my best but it wasn’t working out. One man from Malaysia listened to my song and signed me but it still didn’t work out. I went to Abuja but my father was still disturbing me and asking me to go back to school. “The pressure was too much and I had to break up with my girlfriend at the time. I started drinking but I decided to channel my anger into writing songs. I didn’t listen to any Nigerian music for three years; I was trying to find myself. I was writing songs and singing it to the people in the house. “Three years later, I recorded a song and after that, I lost my mother to cancer. I cried but I still released the song because I was determined. I kept sharing the song. Even though I got blocked by people on social media, I persisted. I went to Abuja to do radio rounds. “I slept and woke up one evening, only to check my phone and saw messages from people telling me to check Davido’s Snapchat account. I saw that he liked my song; I was excited. I still didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t tempted to send Davido a message on social media. My song, Amaka, with Tuface also changed my life financially; I got a lot of calls for shows.” Peruzzi also talked about how he sold his car to buy some drugs for his ailing mother before she died. “When we realised my mother was diagnosed with cancer; I had to put my car on auction immediately. I wanted to quickly send money to people to help me get the drugs she needed. I could only get the drugs from India but they still didn’t work. I still see myself going back to complete my degree in medicine and surgery but I don’t see myself sitting in the hospital.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/i-didnt-believe-it-when-chioma-told-me-she-was-dating-davido-peruzzi/amp/
