An FCT High Court on Monday sentenced five internet fraudsters, to three years in prison each for online fraud schemes.

The convicts are Karo Ijire, Austin Odili, Elvis Ikechukwu, Kelly Iboyi and Rukeme Ejechi.

Delivering judgment, Justice Muawiyah Baba- Idris, who sentenced Ijire, Odili and Iboyi, ordered that proceeds from the crime and other things associated with it be forfeited to the Federal Government and the sales from it be return to the victims.

They were arraigned by Economic and Financial Crime Commission on various cyber crime offence.



The convicts pursuant to plea bargain agreement made individually, with the anti-graft agency, were convicted on their plea of guity.

The judge said: “Cyber crimes are flourishing among the youth to the extent that even secondary school students engage in it”

it is not inconsistent with the court to adopt the agreement intoto.

” Courts have a duty to enforce the provisions of the Act under which an accused is charged.”

Baba- Idris said the section in which they were charged which was section 322 provides;

” Whoever cheats shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both.”

He added that it was most appropriate that the prosecuting agencies arraign the accused persons under the prosecution of the right law.

Idris further held that section 270 (11) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act empowers the court to impose heavier punishment other than the one agreed by the parties.

Nine suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity have shot dead two friends, Wasiu Olaitan, 31, and Frank Mmanko, 29, in the Okokomaiko area of Lagos State.

The suspected cultists, who reportedly invaded the area around 6.15pm on three motorcycles, were said to have shot indiscriminately in the area.

A woman and some residents of Ajasa Street and Ogunleye junction in the Okokomaiko area were said to have sustained injuries during the attack.

A friend to the deceased, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that Olaitan, Mmanko were going to buy slippers when the cultists attacked them.


He said, “The victims were ordinary people. None of them had anything to do with cultism. We were together that day in my house watching television until there was a power outage and we left the room for fresh air outside.

“Mmanko asked us to accompany him to buy slippers because the one he was putting on had become old. The three of us went to buy the slippers.

“As we were walking back home, we saw some guys with guns on motorcycles. While one of the deceased was calling my attention to the fact that the guys did not look like policemen, they disembarked from the motorcycles and started shooting indiscriminately.


“We decided to flee. I ran into one compound and scaled the fence to another building. My friends were running straight and entered into a compound to hide.”

According to him, the cultists pursued Olaitan and Mmanko into the building and killed them.

He added that the residents were able to identify some of the cultists, including a soldier.

A relative of Olaitan said the cultists usually come from Okokomaiko to the area to attack the and kill anybody they meet.


He said, “I learnt that some policemen were eating and drinking at one woman’s shop on Ora Street and parked their vehicle there. The cultists killed my relation, Olaitan, who hailed from Kwara State. He was 31 years old and was an aluminium fabricator.
“The incident happened around 6.15pm on Monday. We are in danger here. People have moved out of the area in large numbers; nobody comes here to rent houses anymore. There are many vacant rooms and flats. The indigenes are not saying anything about the unrest and the killings.”

He stated that on March 24, 2019, some Aiye Confraternity members came into the community through the PPL bus stop around 10am and shot dead one Adekanmi Adaramola, the son of the late Professor of Jurisprudence at the Lagos State University, Funso Adaramola.

He said, “On May 11, during the Ramadan around 8pm, the cultists also killed one boy, who was known as Waifa; he was a soft drink vendor at LASU.

“Two days ago, they killed Wasiu Olaitan and Frank Mmanko. Mmanko was a member of the St. Anne Catholic Church at the PPL. They also shot at a pregnant woman and a nursing mother, among others. A bullet was extracted from one man’s ankle.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the killing of two persons during the cult attack.

According to him, the police have arrested 14 suspects, who have been charged.

He added that investigation was ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to the killings.

Elkana stated, “Two persons were killed in that attack and a woman was injured and she is recovering. We have arrested 14 suspects and charged them. It was a cult attack. We are on the trail of the ringleader, one Sola Okoko Danger.

“The command’s Anti-Cultism Unit and the Operation Crush have taken over the matter. Investigation is ongoing to unravel those who carried out the killing of innocent people in the Okokomaiko area.”

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria also known as Shi'ites have denied repsonsibility for the deaths of persons in the bloody clash with men of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja yesterday July 22nd.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the group, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, says the police killed the Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi and the Depity Commissioner of Police, Umar Bebel, just to tarnish their image.

According to Musa, the image of the deacesed police officer shows that he was shot from the back where his fellow police offiers were positioned during the clash. He argued that Bebel could not have been shot at the back when he was said to have been facing the angry protesters. The statement in part reads

“Yesterday the Nigeria police force headquarters issued a press statement in which it ascribed the death of DCP Usman A.K Umar in particular to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria under the leadership of the illegally detained Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky.

“We vehemently condemn such insinuation which we believe was done in bad taste to once again tarnish our hard earned credit as the only non-violent Movement in the country.

“A quick analysis of images and video clips showed that the Free Zakzaky procession was peacefully progressing prior to the brutal crackdown. It also clearly showed that the protesters weren’t bearing arms as usual and traffic was moving smoothly without hindrance.

Furthermore, the images also showed the police, armed to the teeth, were intent on stopping the movement of the protesters, at all cost. Few other policemen and plain cloth security agents were seen piling used tyres for use to set bonfires. By the time the police struck, about a dozen members of the Islamic Movement had been killed. The police were seen picking the corpses to an undisclosed location, perhaps for mass burial.”

Also shot were the Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi and their colleague, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, whom photographs showed was struck from the back of his head with the bullet exit in front, an indication that he was a victim of friendly fire.

It is a known fact among the intelligence community that you don’t retreat from a mob with your back turned against them. This is one of the tenets of crowd control for law enforcement agencies. As if to hide this fact, the late policeman was hurriedly buried without any form of postmortem examination, which would have revealed the source of the bullet.

It seems the security agents strategically killed the Journalist to turn the media against us. They also killed the police officer to incite the security community against us and to stigmatise us''.

KimOprah in an interview with Pulse following her eviction from the Big Brother Naija reality show on Sunday, admitted dating Gedoni for seven months while they were in University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State. She however said the relationship never worked out and they decided to remain friends after that.

“I dated Gedoni at some point in my year two; that was in the University of Port Harcourt, we were in the same modeling agency in Rivers, you know.
