An 18 -year-old man, Hassan Abdullahi, of Kwarin Maikotso village in Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been remanded in prison for allegedly impregnating his neighbour’s teenage daughter.

A Katsina Senior Magistrate’s Court presided over by Hajiya Fadile Dikko, ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody till October 15, 2019 when his case would come up for mention.

Trouble started for Abdullahi when he befriended his then 12-year-old neighbour’s daughter in 2016.


The businessman was said to have earlier indicated interest in marrying the girl, but had a change of heart when the minor was delivered of a baby boy.

Unhappy about this development, the father of the girl, Abdulrahman Abubakar, petitioned the state Commissioner of Police to seek justice for his daughter.

In a letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, dated January 8, 2019, the complainant alleged that the defendant had carnal knowledge of his daughter during the period of their friendship.

This, he said, led to pregnancy and the birth of a child outside wedlock.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested the defendant and interrogated him.

He was said to have confessed to committing the offence while in police custody.

The charge read in part, “You, Hassan Abdullahi, lured one (name withheld) to your shop and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her. As a result, she got pregnant and was delivered of a baby boy…”

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello, asked the court for more time to enable the police to conclude investigations.

The court granted the request and ordered that the defendant remain in prison till the next adjourned date.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu zonal office is currently interrogating Princess Benny Chidinma, Managing Director of a suspected Ponzi Scheme, “Millionaire African Leaders Club, on allegations of providing financial services without statutory license.

Chidinma’s arrest comes two days after her Enugu branch Coordinator, Nwonu Priscilla Chika was apprehended by operatives of the Commission following a raid on the premises of the club at No 79 Nike Road, Abakpa Nike, Enugu, Enugu State. Three promoters and newly recruited staff of the organisation were arrested in the operation.

Under interrogation, Chidinma admitted, that the Ponzi scheme was initially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization(NGO) and that she was running it in connivance with her accomplice, one Ken Onyekwere Okwuikpo who resides in PortHarcourt, Rivers State. .

She further revealed that the scheme pays 70% (seventy percent) interest and not 50% as earlier stated by the Coordinator as annual return on investment, to contributors. .

She also disclosed that their offices are spread across Nsukka, PortHarcourt, Aba, Abakaliki and Enugu.

Investigation is still ongoing, while efforts are being made to arrest other accomplices.

The new 21 obas in Ibadan land appeared to have dropped their crowns in a move seen as surrendering to the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji.

They appeared as part of the entourage of the monarch to the ongoing Southwest security summit at the Internatuinal Conference Centre, University of Ibadan on Monday.

The joint public appearance came two years after they went their separate ways following the crowing of members of the Olubadan-In-Council in 2017 by the immediate past Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The new obas had boycotted the palace since their crowning due to the Olubadan’s opposition to their elevation by the governor.

They were meeting at Mapo Hall.

The monarch argued that the State Government has no right to independently elevate his chiefs.

Though both parties indicated willingness to reconcile while the crisis lasted, the Olubadan insisted that the only condition for reconciliation was for the new obas to drop their crowns and wait for their time to ascend the throne of the Olubadan in line with the custom.

But the obas also stood their ground, stressing that their crowning was already gazetted by the state government

The appearance of the obas at the security summit however indicated that they have surrendered to the tough stance of the Olubadan.

They wore only common hats as they sat two lines behind the Olubadan as members of his entourage.

The outing may be a silent indication that the royal rumble in the Olubadan palace has come to an end without fanfare.

On the entourage today are the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun; Asipa Olubadab, High Chief Eddy Oyewole; Balogun Olubadan, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin; the Asipa Balogun, High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe; the Ekarun Olubadan, High Chief Amidu Ajibade and the Ekarun Balogun High Chief Adegbola.

At the meeting are also the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Olugbo of Ugbo land, Oba Frederick Akinruntan; Oba of Lagos, Oba Rowland Akiu and a host of other traditional rulers.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde commended the reconciliation between the Olubadan of Ibadan Oba Saliu Adetunji and his high chiefs.

He gave the commendation during his welcome speech at the ongoing South West security meeting at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan.

Sighting the high chiefs without their crowns in their attendance with the Olubadan, Makinde said: “In the entourage of the Olubadan, I can see the high chiefs.

” I think it is a positive development in Oyo State. We are talking about security here; and I think it is part of what will help overall security of the society.”

Ousted Sudanese President, Omar al-Bashir was formerly indicted by a Sudanese court on Saturday August 31, after being arraigned on charges which bordered on illegal acquisition and use of foreign funds.

Bashir admitted in court that he received $25 million from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as well as funds from other sources, but denied receiving or using the money for his own benefit.

"My office manager... received a call from the office of Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman saying he has a 'message' that will be sent on a private jet," the 75-year-old former Sudanese President said during the trial.

"We were told that the crown prince did not want his name to appear (linked to the transaction), and if the funds were deposited with Sudan's bank or the finance ministry, the source would have to be identified," he added.

However speaking at the third session of Bashir's trial, Judge Al-Sadiq Abdelrahman stated that foreign funds of multiple currencies were found at the disgraced President's home.

Authorities had "seized 6.9 million euros, $351,770 and 5.7 million Sudanese pounds at (Bashir's) home which he acquired and used illegally," the judge said.

If found guilty of illegal acquisition of wealth, Bashir risks 10 years in jail. He might also be handed a 3-year imprisonment sentence if found guilty of illicit use of foreign funds. Reuters reported that the former Sudanese President was denied bail as the trial was adjourned till September 7.

Recall that Omar al-Bashir was ousted in April after mass protests against his three-decade rule rocked Sudan for months.

A 35-year-old rape suspect, identified as Musa Ibrahim, has been detained in police custody in Kano, for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl, Brandy Thomas.

The incident happened at Rijiyan Zaki area of the Kano metropolis, when the suspected rapist, who have been a family friend, lured the eight-year-old girl with packs of Indomie noodles.

It was learnt that the victim, was conversant, with Ibrahim, making it possible for him to convince and lured her to a corner of a building, where he succeeded in raping her.

However, reports have it that the relative of the suspect, who is an Immigration officer, was allegedly trying to use his influence to sweep the rape case under the carpet.

Contacted, the Kano Police spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the incident, said: ” Immediately the case was reported to the Police, the Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, order for a discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the incident.

”The suspect has been arrested and detained, while investigations has already commenced.

”The victim has been conveyed to the hospital for medical check-up, to ascertain the extent of injury the girl must have suffered.

At the conclusion of investigations, the CP, said the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.

Imo state government on Thursday ordered a citizen’s arrest against Sen. Rochas Okorocha, over alleged assault on a government official, Mr Jasper Ndubuaku.

The Secretary to State Government (SSG), Mr Uche Onyeaguocha, gave the order after the Chairman of the Recovery of Government Properties, Mr Jasper Ndubuaku, was allegedly assaulted at Okorocha’s residence.

Onyeaguocha said that the state had also placed Okorocha on security watch and urged Imo citizens to arrest him and alert the government whenever they found him in the state.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a video, trending online on Thursday, captured some thugs beating Ndubuaku at Okorocha’s residence on Spibatt Avenue, Owerri.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabiu Ladodo, and SSG confirmed the incident to newsmen at a joint news briefing in Owerri.

They announced that a citizen’s arrest had been declared on Okorocha over the incident.

They claimed that Okorocha hired thugs to attack Ndubuaku, who doubles as Special Adviser to Gov. Emeka Ihedioha on Security matters.

They said that the Senator representing Imo West would be arrested and prosecuted anytime he entered the state.

NAN reports that the incident was happening barely 24 hours after traditional rulers in the state issued a stern warning to Okorocha against disrupting the activities of the recovery team.

The commissioner of police said that police would investigate the senator’s involvement in the matter.

Narrating his ordeal to NAN, Ndubuaku alleged that he was beaten at Okorocha’s residence and thrown into a gutter by some thugs.

He further alleged that he was first held hostage for some hours by the thugs in the presence of security men attached to Okorocha’s residence.

He said that the recovery team obtained a court order to search Okorocha’s house.

“We got a court order to recover stolen properties kept in Okorocha’s house and when we got to his house on Thursday, armed thugs attacked us.

“There are twenty government vehicles in his house, four Speed Boats, one movable Crain and generator sets, which we went to recover before the incident.

“We will not give up the battle, we will go back to his house because the property belongs to Imo government,” Ndubuaku said.

Relating to the government’s order, Mr Sam Onwuemeodo, the Special Assistant on Media to Okorocha, said the recovery committee was attacked by the former governor’s sympathisers and passersby.

He said that the recovery team went to Okorocha’s house without a court order, adding that they invaded Okorocha’s residence with no fewer than 50 thugs.
