Kidnappers are on a prowl in Abuja, the nations capital, as a lecturer at Base University Abuja, Abubakar Alkali and two teenagers were abducted on Saturday September 14th in Abuja.

According to reports, the teenagers were returning from Quranic lecture at Wuse zone 6, when they were abducted. Also on Saturday, unknown gunmen abducted one Hannah Azuibuike near Habiba plaza in Maitama, and also Ummi Ardo who was kidnapped outside Blickers super market in Asokoro.

In a statement released on Sunday September 15th, Ardo’s father who is an Adamawa-based politician, confirmed his daughter’s abduction and said no one has heard from her abductors.

“My daughter, Ai’shat Umar Ardo (Ummi)), 24, was kidnapped at Blinkers Shopping mall, No.46 Nkwame Nkurma crescent, Asokoro around 7:45pm yesterday. They put her in an ash Camry and zoomed off. Nothing is heard of her since, and no call is yet received from them. Your prayer is needed. Thank you.” the statement read

Spokesperson of the FCT police command, Anjuguri Manzah, confirmed the reported abductions but declined to give further comments.

He shared the private message sent to him by his fan, who revealed one of his comedy skit, “Back to School” saved her life from untimely death.

He shared the message on his Instagram page with caption,

I get mails like this all the time. I remember vividly my prayer to God when I started stand-up comedy professionally; “dear God, I don’t just want to make people laugh. I want to make them happy”.

Mental health issues are real. Let’s not think people are bluffing all the time. Even people who threaten to take their lives but don’t also need help. Lastly, happiness is a choice. Let’s always remember that.

A man has died in London after accidentally shooting himself while trying to shoot someone down, witnesses have claimed.

Officers were called to Sydenham Road in Lewisham at 3.45pm on Sunday, to reports of suspicious activity in the area. Shots were then heard before a man, believed to be in his 20s, was found with gunshot wounds. He died at the scene just five minutes later.

One woman, 56, living on nearby Venner Road described seeing the man attempt to shoot someone else before being hit by the bullet himself.

She said: "He ended up shooting himself. The bullet bounced off a car window. You can see on the car window where the bullet bounced off it.

"After it happened, the boy he [tried] to shoot stood there filming him."

The woman said she believed the victim had no parents.

She said: "He’s been there for three hours covered by a sheet. No mum, no dad. It’s really sad."

A shopkeeper on the nearby high street also said he had heard reports the man shot himself.

He said: "A group of guys were sitting in a car by the bank and a big guy came up to them with a shotgun."

"They all got out of the car and ran so the guy decided to damage the car with the back of the gun. As he was hitting the windows the gun went off and he shot himself – that’s what we’ve been told."

Other witnesses said numerous rumours about the shooting were circulating in the local community.

One man said: "We’ve heard three or four different stories – we’ve heard it was a guy on a moped, someone in a car and then that the [victim] did it to himself."

Police say there have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries are continuing to take place.

Ellie Reeves, Labour MP for Lewisham West and Penge, reacted to the shooting on Twitter, writing: "Shocked and saddened to learn of the fatal shooting in Sydenham this afternoon. My thoughts are with the victim and their family. This violence has no place in our community."

Properties worth millions of naira were on Friday destroyed by flood occasioned by heavy rain downpour in Osogbo, Osun State capital as victims lamented their loss to the incident.

Mostly affected were residents of Gbodofon and Ogo Oluwa area of Osogbo, where houses and business centres were submerged by the flood.

Tribune Online authoritatively gathered that affected buildings include a church, mechanic workshop, a retail outlet of a beverage company, a secondary school a pig farm and other properties along with the areas.

Sources informed our correspondent that the heavy rain downpour, which spanned several hours caused Osun river to overflow its bank, thus affecting houses located along the river bank.

When our correspondent visited the scene, some of the victims, who narrated their ordeal called on the state government to come to their aid in ameliorating their conditions.

One of them identified as Mr Joseph Akinyemi said “the rain didn’t start as something serious. I and my family were scooping the water but I noticed it would amount to a waste of energy if we keep doing this. I got everyone out of the building. This morning when I came and I was surprised to see the whole building being submerged. Thank God we didn’t sleepover.”

Another victim, Mrs Mutiat Ishola attributed the flooding to failure of the state government to carry out the dredging of the Osun river and other water channels this year.

She stated “there has been no raining season we don’t have this kind of experience, though it has been well managed in the last five years because of the dredging done every raining period. But this year, no dredging has been done which is the reason we are experiencing this.

Lagos has been ranked the world's most dangerous city to live in by the Economist Intelligence Unit in its newly released report.

The British business intelligence which provides forecasting and advisory services through research and analysis reviewed the living state of 60 cities using the digital security, health, infrastructure and personal security index.

“Urban management will play a fundamental role in defining the quality of life of most human beings in the coming years. A key element of this will be the ability of cities to provide security for their residents, businesses and visitors.

“A look at the top five cities in each pillar—digital, health, infrastructure and personal security—yields a similar message. In each area, leading cities got the basics right, be it easy access to high-quality healthcare, dedicated cyber-security teams, community-based police patrolling or disaster continuity planning" the report read in parts.

Japan's capital city, Tokyo was ranked the safest city to live in the world. Singapore, Osaka, Amsterdam and Sydney also took the second to fifth spot in the safest cities to live in. This is the first time Lagos will be featured on the list and it took the 56th spot on the digital security ranking and the 58th on the infrastructure security ranking.

The popular city in Nigeria also featured in the list of cities which did not factor disaster risk in their city-level urban plan alongside Cairo, Riyadh, Lagos, Bogota, Caracas, Baku.

A 15-year old junior secondary student, simply identified as Onoriode, was on Wednesday confirmed dead after drowning during a fishing expedition.

The Nation gathered that Onoriode had joined two of his friends to go fishing at a pond in the Ikpirima quarters of Osubi community, Okpe council area of Delta state on Tuesday.

He was declared missing after he reportedly fell into the pond.

Onoriode and his friends, according to a source, who is conversant with the development, were all from Abgbasa community in Warri South council area of the state

The source, who preferred anonymous, added that the pond, originally a borrow pit, had expanded in recent times as a result to the high volume of rainfalls witnessed in the area, coupled with the activities of sand dredgers who had persistently invaded the pond for sand.

“The boy, simply referred to as Onoriode, came in company of three other children within the age brackets of 13 and 14 to fish at the borrow pit beside the Osubi Airport when the incident occurred on Tuesday.

“The deceased hailed from Agbasa area of Warri in Warri South LGA. They came to the area to fish. The place is very deep because of the dredging activities in the area”, he said.

Another source, a prominent members of the community, who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the community had made frantic efforts in the past to stop children from going close to the pool of waters as the depth of the water is quite unimaginable.

According to him: “None of the children from this area dares going close to it”. “You can see that they are all from a distant community”, he concluded.

He further disclosed that incidences of deaths at the pond had become an annual occurrence and called on the state government to do something urgently to channel the water to the existing canals to save more lives being lost.

When reached for confirmation, the Delta Commissioner of Police, Mr Adeyinka Adeleke, said the body of the deceased boy had been recovered on Wednesday evening.

A lady has been arrested for pouring hot water on a 300-Level Statistics student of the University of Abuja who is having an amorous relationship with her daughter.

It was gathered that the suspect has never in support of the relationship, however, out of the blue, the victim got a call from the lady, telling him to come over to their house for a peace talk.

But on getting there, he was allegedly greeted with a pot of hot water and the woman subsequently raised a false alarm, calling him a thief. .

Meanwhile, the victim has been rushed to the hospital, while his girlfriend’s mom has since been arrested.
