Barely a month after thunderbolt allegedly killed over 30 cows at Ijare in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, lightning has struck eight cows to death at Ikare-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the incident, which happened at Ekan quarters of the town on Tuesday, was planned to be concealed by the herdsmen, who owned the cows with the intent of allegedly selling the meat to unsuspecting public.

The herdsmen were said to have roasted and started selling them to butchers in Akoko area before they were caught.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has banned sales of cow meat allegedly struck to death by thunderstorm in Ikare-Akoko.

The Director of Environmental Health Services in Akoko North-East Local Government, Mrs Yemisi Adeniyi and her counterpart from Akoko Northwest, Mr Ojo Anthony, said they had arrested some butchers from taking the cow meat to markets.

The environmentalists, who mobilised other experts on Thursday morning to the scene of the incident, seized the cow meat for immediate fumigation.

The health experts, therefore, cautioned the people of Akoko to stay away from cow meat in the next few days to avoid consumption of such traditionally and medically cow meat allegedly killed by the thunderstorm.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Butchers’ Association in Ikare, Mr Kabiru Ismaila, said he was working with government’s environmental health officials to ensure such cow meat was not sold in Akoko markets in the next few days.

A girl touted to be a mermaid by some students, was found at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) female hostel.

Giving a summary of the incident, an anonymous writer wrote: “A girl named Blessing who is being squatted by Olamide in Fagunwa hall had a misunderstanding with her. The misunderstanding was caused by a missing wristwatch. Upon losing her necklace, Olamide suspected Blessing and immediately sent her packing from the room and also wrote long notes stating and threatening her not to ever mess with the Marine spirits frankly stating that she is one of them.–

“This statement and notes written by the “mammy water” sparked speculations that she was an actual water goddess. Her roommates said that: 1. She only baths in the morning.

2. Upon waking, her bed is always soaked.

3. She wakes up to soak and pour water on her leg.

4. Praying to a necklace over her bed every morning.

“These statements provoked her roommates who dragged her outside while still emphatically insisting that she’s a mermaid.

“These frustrations caused her (mammy water) to reveal that the missing necklace (the one that causes fight) makes her turn into a fish. After these confessions, the Able-bodied Alpha base were then invited into the hostel to lead her out.”

A 32-year-old Nigerian, who was previously found guilty of raping a woman, has been accused of raping another in the same week.

On Tuesday, he was charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance for allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman he met online.

Khaleej Times quoting public prosecution records, said the incident was reported on December 29 last year at Al Barsha police station.

The defendant, who works as a jewellery designer, went to meet the complainant, a Ukrainian, in a cab. He then took her to his flat, where he allegedly forced her inside “after threatening to inject her with a shot”, according to public prosecution records. He then allegedly raped her repeatedly at knifepoint.

The 33-year-old complainant said the accused raped her again four times the next day and then told her to leave.

The defendant had been convicted of raping another woman (a 53-year-old Serbian) 20 times in an incident that was reported on January 4 this year. He was sentenced to one year in jail and deportation in that case.

According to prosecution records, the two women are not related.

The trial will continue on November 3.
