Gjrich:

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has moved to support Abia State in its quest to sustain growth in commerce, through introduction of technological advancement in Aba shoe-manufacturing sector.

This would be done in order to ensure that finished products are exported, thus giving Aba-made products the recognition they deserve, serving as a source of foreign exchange earnings.

Ahunna Eziakonwa-Onochie, assistant secretary general of the United Nations (UN) made this known during a meeting with Priscilla Otti, the wife of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State and her team, at the 68th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, in New York, United States of America.

BusinessDay gathered that Eziakonwa-Onochie, who also doubles as the UNDP assistant administrator and director, Regional Bureau for Africa, expressed the willingness of the UNDP to give further support to achieve the empowerment initiatives of the Government of Abia State.

She expressed joy and excitement over the developmental giant strides being made by Otti in such a short time in office, geared towards the development of the State, noting that she received laudable reports from the UNDP meeting held last year in Rwanda, about Otti, a meeting which the Governor attended.

Otti, in her response appreciated the UN Assistant Secretary-General for her kind words towards the government of Abia State, as well as her thoughtfulness, geared towards supporting activities that would quicken the development of the State, and assured that her husband’s lofty plans and programmes for the State are enormous and would be executed to the fullest, in line with his leadership vision and campaign promises.

The Abia First Lady was accompanied to the meeting by two members of her team, namely, Ifeoma Thomas, special assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable Groups and Poverty Alleviation and Chinwe Onyeukwu, special assistant on Women Affairs.

Politics / Gov. Soludo Vows To Replicate Geometric Power Project In Anambra by Gjrich(m): 12:27pm On Mar 19
Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has promised to address the challenges of electricity supply in Anambra by replicating the Geometric Power project feat of Abia in the state.

Soludo noted that while it took 20 years to bring the Geometric Power Project in Abia to fruition, Anambra State would achieve the feat in a shorter time range.

The Anambra State Governor spoke while presenting the scorecard of his administration’s two- years in office in Awka, the Anambra State capital on Sunday.

He commended Prof. Barth Nnaji, the brain behind the Geometric Power Plant for his innovation, as he revealed that his administration had studied the power plant process and set up a team to work out the Anambra version.

He said his government was struggling to do more with less as revenue available to the state had reduced significantly by over 25 per cent short of previous allocation on one hand and heavy inflation on the other.

According to him, “if you are to line up Anambra people and share the allocation coming to the state among them, it will amount to N2,800 per person a month and that is what we are using to do these things.”

Soludo said he was conscious of the prevailing hard times and as such running what he described as the most austere government such that he was not earning salary from the state and his wife had no official vehicle.

He said he was committed to putting money in the hands of the poor by providing free quality public education, free delivery services and other social services.

He said going forward, he would deepen governance delivery in security, technology innovation and digital economy, education and human capital

Earlier, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, former Secretary General of Commonwealth, said the last two two years had seen extraordinary achievement in Anambra.

Oba Oyelude made the appeal in a chat with journalists on Sunday in his palace in Kuta.

He said the reopening of the border would ease the burden of Nigerians economically.

“At the time the Benin Republic border was closed, the Federal Government was protecting the economy of the country.

“But I want to urge the President to look at the possibility of reopening the border to ease the pain of Nigerians,” he said.

Oba Oyelude also urged Nigerians to be patient with the President, noting that he meant well for the country by removing the subsidy on fuel.

“The gain of the removal of fuel subsidy is coming, but it may not be immediate. And that is why we need to be patient with the President.

“Let us give this administration time. We will surely get there,” the traditional ruler pleaded.

He urged the Federal Government not to completely take every advice and policy of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Oba Oyelude said although there was nothing wrong in domesticating IMF ideas and policies, but the same must be done in a way that will suit the country.

“There is economic downturn and it is a challenge that we are going through, but I believe we will overcome it as a country,” he said.

Politics / Sanwo-Olu Commissions Two 29MVA Power Substations For Surulere Residents by Gjrich(m): 12:35pm On Mar 17
Governor, Sanwo-Olu Commissions Two Power Substations For Surulere Residents.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, commissioned two 29MVA injection power substations in Surulere, Lagos.
The projects were facilitated by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gbajabiamila said that efforts that lead to the commissioning of the two substations is a significant milestone in the collective journey towards ensuring a reliable and sustainable power supply for the people and the nation.

Represented by Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun, he said: “I am happy, and particularly, enthusiastic about the expected improvement of the power supply this project would bring to my people in Surulere. When I briefed Mr. President about today’s event, he was pleased about this public–private sector partnership between the Federal Government and Eko Distribution company. We owe this dividend of democracy to Mr. President.

“As the Chief of Staff to the President, I am honoured to witness the culmination of a vision nurtured through collaboration, dedication, and unwavering commitment. The Tinubu administration has shown its dedication to solving the power supply challenges of Nigeria from the get-go with the signing of the 2023 Electricity Act just days into taking over the reins of power of our country.

“ Stakeholders and professionals have been engaged to achieve our dream of attaining a 24/7, uninterrupted power supply in our nation. Today’s commissioning is a testament to the power of partnership and the tireless efforts of all stakeholders involved.

“Our collaboration with Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), alongside other stakeholders, has been pivotal in bringing this project to fruition. We have demonstrated what can be achieved when public and private entities join forces with a shared purpose. As earlier mentioned, one of the two units of the 20MVA Injection substation was facilitated during my tenure as Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives to restate further our commitment to the improvement of electricity supply in our community.

“I commend the automobile technicians of Randle Mechanic Village for their understanding and cooperation in allowing us to put this facility in a section of their workshop.

“The Randle Injection Substation’s significance extends far beyond its physical presence. It represents progress, empowerment, and the promise of a brighter future for the residents of Surulere and beyond. With enhanced capacity and reliability, this substation will alleviate the burden of power shortages and catalyze socio-economic development in the constituency.”

Gbajabiamila maintained that access to reliable electricity is not a privilege; it is a fundamental right that drives productivity, fosters innovation, and improves the quality of life for all citizens.

“ I like that the mantra of Eko Disco resonates with that. While we celebrate this achievement today, let us reaffirm our collective resolve to build upon this success and continue to invest in projects that empower our people and propel our nation forward.”

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu commended Gbajabiamila for facilitating the projects, noting it will positively impact the residents.

Represented by the Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Gbenga Ogunleye, Sanwo-Olu said the state government is creating the environment and working towards ensuring that in less than two years sections of Lagos will bid farewell to darkness in all facet.

The governor implored residents of Surulere not to do anything that will make the DisCosto think twice when the government calls them for partnership. He enjoined them to pay their bills and not beat up DisCos staff or by pass metres thereby making their business unprofitable.

Politics / Solution To Nigerians To Avoid Unprecedented Suffering, Consider It Now by Gjrich(m): 11:28am On Mar 13
Starting today, initiate preparations for relocating and your family from Nigeria to Abroad, especially US, Canada, or Europe.

Given the dire state of Nigeria, which appears to be irreparable, it's essential to consider a move.
Additionally, projections suggest that next year, conditions in Nigeria will deteriorate further, becoming more challenging and turbulent.

The Bola Tinubu-led government appears perplexed, lacking viable solutions for Nigeria's economic challenges.

Despite claiming to remove subsidies, citizens now face significantly higher fuel costs, while subsidies persist, worsening poverty. Instead of hastily removing subsidies and floating the naira, a responsible government would combat subsidy corruption, prioritize equitable distribution of resources, and reduce excessive budget allocations benefiting the ruling elite.

However, Tinubu's policies have only deepened citizens' impoverishment, padded the budget with trillions of dollars, and perpetuated corruption.
All policies ultimately benefit him and his cartel at the expense of the populace.

If You Capture Power But Can't Use It To Drive The Economy, What's The Use ? - Aburi

The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, heavily criticized the Bola Tinubu-led administration for its widespread destruction of all sectors in the country. He urged opposition parties and Nigerian citizens alike to challenge this poor governance with action.

Abure expressed his deep concern that all developmental indicators suggest a significant decline in progress as hardships such as hunger, insecurity, economic devastation, and political opportunism continue to afflict innocent civilians.

During a press conference held yesterday in Lagos, Abure emphasized that acquiring power is not enough; it is crucial to utilize it wisely. Winning an election does not suffice either; what truly matters is how one improves individuals' lives and promotes their welfare through transformative measures.

According to The Sun Abure said, “If you capture power and you cannot use it to address security challenges, the people are still being killed, you cannot use it to address infrastructure, you cannot use it to make the economy work, then what is the use of being in office?

“In all ramifications, the Tinubu-led APC government is a failure, and the Nigerian masses have never had it as bad as this.

“At present, Nigerians are begging for food. Is it not a shame that Ukraine, which is at war, is sending us grains and all that? Nigeria has all it takes to build a great nation, but sadly, this APC government is presently taking us backward. Nigerians must unite to chase away this oligarchy in power.”

Abure urged Nigerians to remain optimistic as the LP is determined to emerge victorious in the upcoming 2027 general election. Despite the presence of saboteurs within its ranks, Abure emphasized that the LP's leadership remains steadfast and committed to addressing Nigeria's challenges and implementing effective solutions

Politics / BREAKING: Again, Terrorists Kidnap Scores In Fresh Kaduna Attack. by Gjrich(m): 8:38pm On Mar 12
BREAKING: Again, terrorists kidnap scores in fresh Kaduna attack.

Suspected terrorists have attacked the Buda community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, abducting about 61 people.

The state and police authorities are yet to confirm the attack, but a resident of the area said that the bandits invaded the village on Monday night at about 11:45 pm, where they kidnapped 61 people.

According to a resident, Dauda Kajuru, the kidnappers invaded the community in large numbers and started shooting sporadically.

“What happened yesterday was terrifying. The bandits came intending to abduct scores of people that’ll outnumber that of school pupils in Kuriga Village of Chikun Local Government Area, but the swift response of soldiers who were not more than 2 kilometres away from Kajuru curtailed the number.

“My siblings were part of those abducted yesterday and based on the information available as of this morning, the bandits with their victims are yet to get to their destination, ” Manyu said.

He lamented that since the removal of an Army Commander popularly known as (Tega), banditry activities have resumed in full force around the Kajuru Local Government villages.

“I’ll tell you in confidence that when Commander Tega was around, their activities stopped, and one could go on occasions without any fear of being kidnapped because he knows their terrain and the mode of their operations.

“It is unfortunate Commander Tega was removed from Kajuru Local Government when we’re experiencing the return of peace in our villages,” he said.

Another resident, Lawal Abdullahi, who escaped the incident but whose wife was among the victims, also confirmed 61 people were abducted.

He said men, women, and children, including a nursing mother of two weeks, were among the victims.

“The situation devastates me because we have not heard from them since the incident happened on Monday.

“We’re appealing to the government to take action and ensure our loved ones return immediately,” he said.

I Can End Farmers, Herders Crisis In Two To Three Weeks – Tinubu.

President Bola Tinubu on Monday expressed readiness to end the perennial farmers, herders crisis in the country.

Tinubu vowed to draw up programmes that would end the crisis within two to three weeks.

He spoke during the inauguration of the mechanised agricultural project in Minna, Niger State.

The President, however, noted that state governors should provide lands that would help in facilitating his programme.

According to Tinubu: “We must reorient our farming population, including livestock programme.

“I don’t see why Nigeria can’t feed all our pupils with one pint of milk a day if the dairy system is well harnessed
“I know what it means as an economic sabotage for cows to eat up the crops and vegetations of our land.

“When we reorient the herders and make provisions for cattle rearing, governors must provide the land and I as the President is committed to giving you, in two to three weeks time, a comprehensive programme that will solve this problem.”

Politics / Minister Of Power Wants Death Penalty For Vandals Damaging Power Equipment. by Gjrich(m): 1:16am On Mar 12
Minister Of Power Wants Death Penalty For Vandals Damaging Power Equipment.

The minister said the issue of power infrastructure vandalisation is one of the pains the sector is going through.

The minister said this in Abuja on Monday while reacting to the frequent vandalism of power infrastructure. He said the issue of power infrastructure vandalisation and theft was one of the pains the sector is going through.

He said, "The Ministry of Power and agencies under it is pushing for capital punishment for those involved in vandalisation and power thefts of all forms.

"Capital punishment is not too much because they are gradually killing the nation. They are killing the economy. They are killing the people.

"Vandals are getting too many comfort all over transmission and distribution power assets. This is not only frustrating our efforts to achieve uninterrupted power supply,, It is driving the nation backward," he said.

Adelabu said Nigerians must realise these assets belong to them, so they must jealously protect them, adding that it was the taxpayers' money that was used to acquire them.

He said the Ministry of Power was collaborating with office of the National Security Adviser and security agencies to protect them as it costs a lot of money to replace them when damaged.

The minister said the ministry was also collaborating with states to have their protection framework to protect the infrastructure. According to him, the Federal Government is also trying to provide at least two million meters on a yearly basis.

"So that in four to five years, the huge metre gap will disappear or significantly reduce."

"We already have a seed fund of ₦75 billion to start working. And we are also going to have some debt injection from the Nigerian Sovereign Investments Authority to complement the fund.

"There is even a possibility of increasing the fund to a ₦100 billion. We have a planned intervention to reduce the metre gap. But the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) must also sit up.

"We need to interrogate their metering plans and give them the minimum target they must achieve in a year," he said.

The minister said that as the metre gap was being reduced, there were new connections as new communities were connected to the grid so we need to be aggressive on this.

Politics / FG Orders NERC To Revoke Licenses Of Non-Performing DISCOS by Gjrich(m): 1:00am On Mar 12
Federal Govt Orders NERC To Revoke Lincences Of Non-Performing DisCos.

The Federal Government, on Monday, ordered the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to withdraw lincences of non-performing electricity distribution companies (DisCos).

The government accused the DisCos of not doing enough to improve supply despite the availability of power on the national grid.

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu who stated this during a meeting with the head of the agencies in Abuja, said the distribution segment remains the weakest link in the electricity supply value chain.

Adelabu stressed that NERC must look for creative ways of getting the DisCos to improve supply including the imposition of stiff sanctions on utilities which fail to pick their allocations and outright cancellation of lincences.

The minister insisted that the franchise areas covered by the DisCos were too large, adding the government would pursue a restructuring that would create smaller DisCos with companies restricted to one state each.

“Distribution is our weakest point and it is the closest to the consumers. If we don’t get distribution right, to Nigerians, we’re not doing anything. So, efforts need to be put on this. In fact, we must intensify our efforts in ensuring that we address all issues relating to distribution.

“It is true that the distribution companies are in the hands of the private sector. We don’t have direct control. But we need to compel them for performance. They must perform. If they do not perform, all our effort in generation, in transmission is zero. I’ve also had a meeting with the Chairman of NERC on how we’re going to address these performance issues of the electricity distribution companies across the nation.

“Why we have new policies in our power sector policy framework, which we’re going to finalize to address long-term issues in distribution, we must proffer short-term solutions to the lingering crisis. Before we get to that, we’re talking about the issue of the capitalization of the discourse, for them to inject funds, to improve infrastructure.

“We are talking about issues of restructuring the DisCos along state lines, to make them manageable in size. Also, issuing new franchises to smaller DisCos to take over areas not being served by the existing ones or that have been underserved by the existing ones.

“I’ve said it before now that non performance of DisCos in terms of epileptic power supply qualifies as a basis for revocation of license. Any DisCo that is found-wanting will be severely dealt with because their actions or inactions directly affect the performance of the sector”, Adelabu said.

The Minister noted that wilful refusal by any DisCo to take up available power “is a qualified basis for the revocation of lincences too”, adding that the distribution companies must be ready to pick up 90-99 percent of load allocated to them.

He described the ongoing electricity rationing across the country as unacceptable, disclosing that the government plans to improve power generation from the present 4,000MW to 6,000MW in the next six months.

This, he said, would be achieved by paying off substantial debts owed to power generation companies and gas suppliers. “So what we are looking at is to have an agreement to ramp up to a minimum of 6,000 megawatts within the next three to six months. I know that the highest we ever generated was 5,700, about three years ago. That was specifically November, 2021.

“And this 5,700 was also distributed. If we could achieve 5,700 at that time, I believe we still have infrastructure to generate between 6,000 and 6,500. In terms of the generating companies, I have no doubt in my mind that the existing capacity can give us 6,500 once there is stability in supply of gas.

“I’ve been to a number of the generating companies and I confirmed that they have this installed capacity. And a large percentage of this installed capacity is operational, but they are not available because of low or shortage in gas supply. Once there is gas supply, we want to ramp up generation to a minimum 6,000MW”.

Adelabu, who noted that while the Federal Government would continue to pay electricity subsidies in the short-term, said there are plans to gradually phase it out in the next three years and return the sector to a commercially driven tariff.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Engr. Sule Abdulaziz explained that the fire that engulfed its substation in Kano happened while its engineers were trying to fix a leakage from one of its transformers.

He disclosed that power has been restored to most parts of the commercial city, adding that the remaining feeders would be restored before the end of Monday.

“The transformer involved was having some leakages. So our engineering team went there to work on it. They took an outage, followed all the requirements to do a maintenance job and they did it successfully.

“Now as they were putting back the transformer oil on the transformer, unfortunately, the filtering machine they were using caught fire.

“And before they could do anything, the fire had spread even to the second transformer. But thank God, with the help of the fire brigade, we were able to quench the fire”, he added.

A report by Goldman Sachs forecasts that by 2075, Nigeria is set to become one of the top economies globally.
The "Giant of Africa," Nigeria, is quickly establishing itself as a major economic force on the international scene.

Nigeria is positioned to play a key role in the global economy because of its expanding population, wealth of natural resources, booming tech sector, and dedication to economic change.

Currently, Nigeria stands as Africa’s largest economy, with a GDP of $477 billion, and a lot of wiggle room for fiscal expansion. Additionally, the country is estimated to grow at a rather rapid pace, taking its economic dominance past the African landscape and onto the global stage.

A report by Goldman Sachs, a world-leading investment bank, buttresses this point. In one of its research reports titled, The Path to 2075, the investment bank noted that Nigeria is set to become one of the top economies in the world by 2075, standing only behind, China, India, the United States, and Indonesia.

The report identifies four major themes for the global economy, “1. slower global potential growth, led by weaker population growth, 2. EM convergence remains intact, led by Asia’s powerhouses, 3. a decade of US exceptionalism that is unlikely to be repeated, and 4. less global inequality and more local inequality.”

The report also notes that by 2050, Nigeria will be amongst the top 15 economies in the world, coming in at the 14th spot.

An extract from the report reads, “The prospect of rapid population growth in countries such as Nigeria, Pakistan, and Egypt implies that – with the appropriate policies and institutions – these economies could become some of the largest in the world.”

elhakiimed:

Sons/children of God isn't a word unique to Jesus alone. All pious people, men/women, and especially prophets are sons of God.

If Jesus miraculous birth is a reason to call him Son of God, how about Adam? Adam literally had no father and mother, and was created when God blow into his clay mould.

Whether figuratively or literally, calling Jesus Son of God, would insinuate that God's glory is shared between son and holy ghost, we believe this is a mistake from Paul and his students. These ideologies were strange to the disciples that's the reason for numerous doctrine disagreement between the disciples and Paul. Research the Council of Nicea.

I hope this is true and other things reduce too

Tomato is a perishable food which is why the price has reduced due to the inability of the traders to export to neighboring countries.

Other food items like Rice, Flour, yam, and beans, Palm Oil prices can not be reduced because they can be easily stored in a warehouse.

Angry Northern Children Hit The Street In Protest With Harmful Objects.

Concern Mounts As Angry Northern Children Hit The Street In Protest With Harmful Objects
In the aftermath of three days of relentless bandit attacks on multiple villages in Katsina State, last week saw hundreds of children left to roam the streets unattended, drawing attention to a stark indictment of the nation’s security apparatus and prompting accusations of governmental neglect.

Bandits carried out a series of assaults across various villages in Katsina last week, notably targeting the Wurma community for three consecutive days without any intervention from security forces.

In response to the brutal killings of their parents, enraged children took to the streets, brandishing sticks and chanting, to express their frustration over what they perceived as a lack of concern from government and security officials regarding their safety and well-being.

The protest in Wurma, primarily led by children aged between 10 and 15, showcased the village’s abandonment following the relentless attacks, with security personnel conspicuously absent.

A viral video captured during the demonstration depicts the children passionately voicing their grievances about the recurring bandit raids that have claimed lives in Katsina.

One of the protesters, Jamil Mabai, lamented the desolation of Wurma, emphasizing the absence of security forces and the vulnerability of the residents. He stated, “Our parents are being slaughtered like animals. We are helpless and that is why we are crying out to the whole world to come to our rescue. The government has abandoned us.”

The protest elicited diverse reactions among Nigerians, with some interpreting it as a poignant plea for international attention to their community’s plight due to perceived governmental apathy.

Conversely, concerns have been raised about the potential long-term psychological impact on the children involved, as they grapple with the traumatic experience and uncertainty about their future.

While Vice President Kashim Shettima assured strengthened security measures, skepticism persists among Nigerians, who view such pledges as mere political rhetoric echoing familiar promises.

Shettima reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives and properties nationwide, extending assurances not only to Katsina but to all of Nigeria.

Federal lawmaker Shehu Dalhatu Tafoki, representing the Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa constituency, expressed deep concern over the incessant banditry attacks on his constituents, describing the situation as intolerable and highlighting the displacement of residents from their homes due to the ongoing violence perpetrated by criminal groups.
