The Lagos tenancy bill seeking to reform landlord-tenant relations has passed the second reading at the state house of assembly.

The proposed law, titled ‘A bill for a law to regulate the relationship between landlords and tenants in Lagos, including the procedure for the recovery of premises and for connected purposes,’ seeks to clarify the rights and obligations of tenants, landlords, and agents across the state.

If passed, the law will redefine tenancy agreements, outline responsibilities, and establish clear procedures for eviction, aiming to bring order and fairness to the housing sector.

Sa’ad Olumoh, the member representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun constituency I, said the bill will promote harmony by setting out payment structures such as monthly and annual rent options, alongside eviction notice protocols.

Aro Moshood, a member representing Ikorodu constituency II, called for the establishment of an enforcement body to discipline landlords who impose arbitrary rents beyond legal limits, stressing the bill’s potential to ease tenants’ financial burdens.

Other lawmakers, including Stephen Ogundipe, representing Oshodi-Isolo I, and Femi Saheed, a member representing Kosofe constituency II, praised the bill’s inclusiveness and comprehensiveness, noting that it addresses agent roles, rent payments, and dispute resolution and affirms the jurisdiction of courts in tenancy matters.

Ajayi Oladele, representing Ibeju Lekki II, said the bill will help resolve conflicts often caused by estate agents by clearly defining stakeholders’ legal positions.

Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the house, urged lawmakers to consider tenants who rely on end-of-year bonuses and leave allowances for rent payments, while also acknowledging landlords’ dependence on rental income amid rising building costs.

He called on the government to fulfil its housing delivery promises.

The bill has been referred to the committee on housing for further review, with a report expected in three weeks.

Former Niger Delta militant and leader of the defunct Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has declared that he will no longer support Yoruba politicians because they have betrayed him and the Ijaw people.

In a video shared on social media platforms on Monday, Dokubo insisted that he is now politically aligned with politicians from Northern Nigeria because they are not traitors like their Yoruba counterparts.

The ex-militant accused Yoruba politicians and elite of turning against their long-standing allies from the Niger Delta after benefiting politically from them.

“The Yorubas have betrayed us.
After all we did, they turned their backs on us,” Dokubo said in the video.

Continuing, he stated that given recent political realignments and what he perceives as a lack of loyalty from the South-West, he feels more positioned to build strategic alliances with Northern leaders, who he claims have shown more consistency and respect.

“The past sacrifices made by the Ijaw for the southern solidarity were not reciprocated,” he noted.

He referenced political cooperation during previous elections and governance battles as moments where the Ijaw stood firm for the South, only to be left out in the cold.

Security has been beefed up around Benin City and other local government headquarters following planned celebration of the anniversary of confraternity otherwise known as 7/7.

The deployment of security personnel to black spots and other critical areas across the state was to prevent breakdown of law and order.

Edo Police spokesman, Moses Yamu, said the deployment of security personnel followed intelligence reports received by the Command that certain cult groups were planning to cause mayhem on July 7th.

Yamu said the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, warned hoteliers, lounges and bars owners, and other places that could serve as a harbour for ‘these criminals not to allow any unlawful gathering in their business places or face the wrath of the law.’

Coalition Leaders Relocate To Regions
The leaders of the coalition movement under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have begun their mobilisation drive in their regions.


LEADERSHIP Sunday checks revealed that the coalition leaders, namely, its interim national chairman, Senator David Mark, and the national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, returned to their states, Benue and Osun, to galvanise their bases.

It was further gathered that as part of measures to firm up their bases, the coalition leaders had been assigned to oversee the platform’s outreach in their geo-political zones. According to a source, who is close to the operation, Atiku would be in charge of the North East zone; David Mark would head the North Central zone, while El-Rufai would head the North West zone.

In the southern geopolitical zone, Obi would lead the Southeast zone, while Aregbesola would head the South-South zone and the South-West zone.

A source confirmed that while the former Senate president is in Benue State for the wedding of his granddaughter, “he is likely going to engage with leaders and sympathisers of the movement across the zone.”

Aregbesola was greeted by his loyalists when he arrived in Lagos State shortly after the unveiling of the party in Abuja.

On his part, Atiku met with some ADC leaders from Gombe State in Abuja, led by former minister and Senator Idris Abdullahi, late Friday.

A source told LEADERSHIP Sunday that the party leaders “returned to touch base with their regions and set the stage for a proper engagement party with the people.”
“Nigerians are already mobilising. The crowd at the gathering was organic. That is what is happening in the state,” he said.


Confirming the mobilisation drive in the regions, the national public secretary of the ADC, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the leaders were given two weeks after which they will return to Abuja for another meeting.

He said, “Our members and leaders have returned to the regions to galvanise the people, mobilise them, and talk to the people.


“Our strengths are in the people, not in guns or thugs. The people are our strengths. After talking to them, they will return to Abuja in two weeks.

“It is after that we will sit down, analyse their reports and other things will follow,” he said.
Other coalition leaders seen mobilising their bases in their states over the weekend were former Minister of Police Affairs, Maina Waziri, in Yobe State and former Imo Governor, Hon Emeka Ihedioha.

Can The Leaders Of The Coalition Deliver?
The ADC was unveiled last Wednesday in Abuja as the coalition platform is reshaping Nigeria’s political space ahead of the 2027 general election.

ADC’s emergence has seemingly revived the opposition as former leading opposition parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party – are embroiled in protracted leadership crises.
The roll call at Wednesday’s event showed how intense the push to democratically remove President Bola Tinubu from office has become.

Prominent opposition politicians, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, were at the unveiling of the party in Abuja.

The duo ended second and third, respectively, in the last presidential election, which Tinubu won with a minority of votes.

Other key political figures at the venue include former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung, publisher and PDP chieftain Dele Momodu, former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha.

They hope to re-enact the 2013 opposition parties’ merger that birthed the APC through which it claimed power at the centre in 2015.

While the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), FCT minister Nyesom Wike, Aviation minister Festus Keyamo, and former ADC presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu have dismissed the ADC as lacking the gravitas to unseat Tinubu, the party’s interim chairman, Senator David Mark, insists the party is bent on rescuing the country from the APC government.

LEADERSHIP Sunday had exclusively reported that the coalition leaders had been assigned the task of overseeing the platform’s expansion in their geo-political zones as part of measures to firm up their bases.

According to a source close to the operations, Atiku would be in charge of the North East zone, David Mark would head the North Central zone, while El-Rufai would head the North West zone.
In the southern geopolitical zone, Obi would lead the South East zone, Amaechi would head the South-South zone, while Aregbesola would head the South West zone.

The source, however, said the postings would be subject to further work and authorisation.
Most of the leaders have since visited their states. Aregbesola was received by his supporters in Lagos on Friday en route to his state, Osun. It was also learnt that Mark visited his home state of Benue shortly after the unveiling.

Nevertheless, questions are being asked about the coalition’s ability to give the APC a tough fight ahead of 2027. This is despite the national appeal and experience that key leaders of the coalition have.
While some analysts acknowledge the household names of the coalition leaders, their influence, especially in their home states and regions, will be put to the test going into the make or mar election.

Reactions
Meanwhile, Chibuike Amaechi has declared that the 2027 elections would not be the same as the previous elections, declaring that rigging and the use of thugs would not be allowed.

He contended it was wrong to assume that the leaders of the coalition are not popular in their home states, saying he was sure that a majority of the leaders would deliver their states.

“Who told you that we aren’t popular in our states? We were governors and senators elected by the people, and we served them diligently. They are happy with us.

“Look, the next elections won’t be as they used to be. The elections are between the people and a few others and I’m sure that the people are ready for a genuine change. Just wait and see.

“We won’t tell you our strategies. How many Nigerians are happy with this government? How much are you earning and what can it buy? What about your family members? Are they happy?’’ he asked.

On its part, the ADC insisted that Nigerians would not judge the new leaders by their past, adding that what is ahead is beyond that.

The spokesman to the coalition and the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said both the APC and the Presidency would be shocked by the coalition’s gains.

‘‘We are focused. Let those entertaining the people continue with their garrulous words and actions. For us, we stay focused,’’ he added.

Other members of the coalition whose inputs or influence in their states and regions would be looked out for are former minister of Justice and attorney general of the federation, Abubakar Malami; former secretary to the government of the federation, Babachir Lawal; former governor and deputy speaker, Hon Emeka Ihedioha; former foreign affairs minister, Tom Ikimi; and former PDP women leader and minister, Josephine Anenih among others.

“From Atiku to Peter Obi, to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to Rotimi Amaechi, Tambuwal, Aregbesola and the rest — they all have significant followership in their various states and have been part of governance at one time or another. This is a huge strength.

“In terms of weakness, I would say their individual abilities to manage crises in their states.

“Someone like Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President — no one can controvert his reach even beyond politics. His network transcends religion, gender, and regional sentiments. He has been on the presidential ballot three times and made a remarkable showing, except in 2007, when presidential results were allocated.

“He made a significant showing in 2019 and 2023, but for the manipulation of the sitting president coupled with the culpability of INEC and the judiciary.

“What this means is that Atiku’s strength cannot be overlooked — just as with other key members of the coalition,” he said.

Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, has revealed that the federal government is willing to negotiate the release of Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Speaking with journalists in Lagos on Friday night, Umahi, who is also a former governor of Ebonyi, clarified that the issue of Kanu’s release should not be used as a political bargaining chip.

He said: “Somebody asked me about Nnamdi Kanu, and I said his matter is not a condition for the South-East to support the president.

“We are willing to negotiate his release, but no one should make it a condition because the president did not put him there.”

Umahi praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a “listening leader”, and expressed hope that Kanu’s release would be achieved through “divine grace and dialogue”, not political pressure.

His words: “President Tinubu may not be perfect, but he is doing most things right. Look at where he picked up the economy from.

“The international community has confidence in his reforms. That is why we are getting support for our projects.”

The minister dismissed claims of marginalisation of the South-East in federal appointments, insisting that Tinubu has done more for the region than many past leaders.

“The South-East now has a voice at the centre. We will not return to Egypt,” he said.

He said even opposition governors from the region were cooperating with the federal government.

Umahi also ruled out any presidential ambition in 2027, saying he would rather work to ensure Tinubu’s re-election.

“I will not run. I will work for my boss, President Tinubu. APC is the path to achieving what we want,” he said.

The minister called on political leaders in the South-East to unite across party lines and support the administration’s development agenda.

Please don't quote me again with your aggressive language. Go right ahead and do whatever that pleases you. Even if the elections become North vs South, the North will still have the advantage. That's a bitter truth. Tinubu won 5.6m votes from the North. He has since lost more than 80% of those votes and he has largely lost it to Atiku. In 2023, there was huge voter apathy in the North so that is not even the real voting strength of the North. On the other hand, no region ever won an election without alliances. Obi will remain in the coalition, you can go ahead to vote Tinubu.

No one has even said Atiku needs to run with Obi. The coalition can still proceed without Obidients. Infact, a repeat of the 3-horse race in 2027 will see Tinubu coming a distant third. This is because Obi will defeat him again convincingly in the South while he will lose majority of the 5.6m votes Northerners gave him in 2023 to Atiku. The Southwest alone cannot make Tinubu win the election but neither can Obi but Obidients are free to merge their votes with Tinubu. On the other hand, the impending release of Nnamdi Kanu means that Obi and the Southeast actually needs the coalition more than the coalition needs them. No one is in a position to be issuing threats.

Tinubu demands constitutional reforms, says ‘State police no longer optional.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for an urgent overhaul of Nigeria’s security framework through constitutional reform, declaring that the establishment of state police is no longer optional but a “national imperative” necessitated by the country’s deepening security challenges.


He spoke Monday in Abuja during a one-day legislative dialogue on constitutional review and national security architecture, organised by the House Committee on Constitution Review in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The president described Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution as foundational to its democracy but outdated in dealing with modern security threats. He cited the rising complexity of terrorism, cybercrime, farmer-herder conflicts, piracy, and separatist agitations as clear indicators that the current legal framework is inadequate to secure Nigeria’s vast and diverse territory.

“The pace of change in technology, in the complexity of security threats, and in the dynamics of our federal structure has far outstripped the capacity of some constitutional provisions. Our Constitution must evolve or risk becoming a danger to the very unity it was meant to protect,” he said.

Tinubu called for bold constitutional amendments that would move policing from the Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List, enabling states with capacity and political will to establish their own police forces. He said such a move would ensure more accountable, community-based policing while preserving federal coordination and oversight.

“None of these reforms will materialise without legislative courage and political will,” Tinubu declared. “Let history record that in this chamber, on this day, Nigeria’s leaders chose courage over caution, vision over fear, and reform over inertia.”

In his remarks, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen said the dialogue was timely, given the urgent need to review and update existing laws to address current and emerging security threats.

He highlighted the prevalence of terrorism, banditry, piracy, militancy, and oil theft across regions, stressing that the House is committed to taking practical legislative steps beyond motions and bills to support the government’s anti-insecurity efforts.

In his remarks, Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee Benjamin Kalu described the dialogue as a necessary diagnostic process.

He said previous legislation on security was often developed without adequate input from those directly involved in frontline operations.

“As legislators, we must base our reforms on accurate diagnoses. We are here to listen to those who wear the shoes and know where it pinches,” Kalu said.

Also speaking, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, also called for urgent legal and constitutional reforms to address emerging threats like cyber warfare, hybrid threats, and insurgency.

He described the current legal framework as increasingly inadequate and highlighted operational ambiguities such as unclear command authority and detention procedures that hamper effectiveness during internal operations.

He proposed key reforms, including amending the Armed Forces Act and relevant constitutional provisions and establishing field and standing court martials in all military commands.

Constitutionally recognising courts-martial as superior courts of record; empowering the military to investigate and detain suspects during internal operations; authorizing the Nigerian Navy to collaborate with Customs and Immigration on inland waterways to combat piracy and smuggling; and introducing a merit-based nomination process for the appointment of service chiefs.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced plans to begin nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel from August 15, 2025.

The company is deploying 4,000 brand-new Compressed Natural Gas-powered tankers to boost delivery capacity and improve access to fuel across the country.

The offer, according to a statement released on Sunday, is open to marketers, petrol station dealers, manufacturers, telecoms operators, aviation firms, and other large-scale fuel users.

The firm also disclosed plans to support distribution through the establishment of daughter booster CNG stations and a dedicated fleet of over 100 gas-powered tankers.

It noted that the logistics support, including free product delivery, was designed to eliminate distribution bottlenecks and bring down operational costs in key sectors of the economy.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant national initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape.

“Effective 15th of August 2025, the refinery will begin the distribution of Premium Motor Spirit and diesel to marketers, petrol dealers, manufacturers, telecoms firms, aviation, and other large users across the country, with free logistics to boost the distribution network.

“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the company said.

Recall that the President of the Dangote Group and founder of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Aliko Dangote, says there will be an announcement of what he calls a major ‘shakedown’ in the entire country soon.

Dangote said this was not about price reduction, but the complete overhaul of the downstream sector.

He stated this in an interview with newsmen following the recent visit of President Bola Tinubu to the $20bn refinery in Lekki, Lagos.

The move also comes amidst a down tool threat by tanker drivers in Lagos State to stop loading petroleum products on Monday, claiming they cannot afford N12,500 per truck for the E-Call Up system on the Lekki-Epe Corridor.

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP) in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi was among the over 100 passengers reported to have escaped plane crash at the local wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Tuesday.

Aviation sources confirmed that Obi who was in Economy Class was in the Airpeace plane with flight number P47123 when it took off from Abuja on Tuesday.

The take off was scheduled for 12:35 but it eventually took off by 12:59.
The Airpeace plane was to land 1:55 but landed 2:25 with approximately 30 minutes behind schedule, the report said.

“It’s was a nasty experience. The plane made many attempts to land but had to retreat. The passengers were jolted. People were praying and casting out the devil as the plane’s destiny was uncertain.

“At a point it was as if the plane would crash on many houses,” one of the passengers who does not wish to be named said.

The passenger said the experience underlines the fragile nature of Nigeria and how the natural disaster could plunge the country into a major civil strive or even war.

“Nigerian Leaders need to fix the country and avoid potential causes of disasters like this, which has serious implications for national security, ”one of the passengers was quoted saying.

A mother of two said she almost gave up as the plane hovered aimlessly between ascending or descending into chaos, according to the report.

“Peter Obi was in the plane. Many lost hope. We thought the plane would crash. Obi was calm and resolute. He was telling people around him to be calm that all would be well.

“We thank God we survived. No one would have believed it was an accident if the plane had crashed with Peter Obi inside, ”another passenger was quoted saying.

He said while other passengers were in great confusion, Peter Obi was comforting them that they should trust in God.
A businessman in the plane, Dr Benson Onuwaje was said to have summoned courage by standing up to pray for everybody telling them all would be well.

“The man Dr Onuwaje is a man of courage. He is a man of God. He rose up and started praying. He was in the first class.

” He called the name of God and assured us that we would land safely. We thank God our prayer was answered, ”Mathew Adekunle who was on the plane said.

Obi who recently donated N20million to flood victims in Niger State had been visiting some communities in Northern Nigeria after which he returned to Abuja for a scheduled political meeting.

Obi was said to have left Lagos for Abuja that afternoon for another meeting.

“We thank God we all landed safely. God protected all of us including Peter Obi, ” one of the passengers was also quoted.

The Nigeria Customs Service is profiling these stations and will hand over findings to the NMDRA for appropriate action, including licence revocation or closure.

In an effort to curb the smuggling of petroleum products, there are compelling signs that the federal government, acting through the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDRA), may be considering closing filling stations along access roads to neighbouring nations.
The Nigerian government is reportedly considering shutting down some filling stations to prevent fuel smuggling, after being advised by the NMDRA.

The federal authorities closed more than 400 gas stations located 20 kilometres from the country's borders in 2019 due to the same problem.
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, who hinted at this over the weekend, said they had commenced the profiling of petrol stations located on access roads to communities that share borders with neighbouring countries, to try and curb the smuggling of petroleum products.

Although Adeniyi suggested that the findings from the profiling of filling stations would be handed over to the NMDRA for appropriate sanctioning, he added that anyone found to be involved in aiding the activities of smugglers would come under government scrutiny.
Non-compliant Nigerian filling stations could close According to the head of Nigeria Customs, stations that were found to be non-compliant would not only be closed, but their operating licences would also be revoked.
This announcement was made on Friday, May 30, at the Nigeria Customs Training School in the Ikeja district of Lagos while displaying some confiscated PMS items.
Adeniyi, who was represented by Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, clarified that the goal was to identify fuel stations involved in smuggling by distinguishing those that are active from those that are moribund. “And that is the essence of why we have to identify filling stations that are close to the border, those that are moribund, and those that are active, so that we will know which stations the Midstream and Downstream Regulatory Authority will grant licences to,” Adeniyi said.
He emphasised that the NMDRA would be contacted for any necessary action if any filling stations were found to be non-compliant. “I have just mentioned that there are many, and those found guilty will be dealt with by the NMDRA.
It’s not for Customs to handle; we are not the ones who issued their licences,” the Comptroller-General stated. NCS suggested that the findings from the profiling of filling stations would be handed over to the NMDRA.

Adeniyi provided details about the seizure, pointing out that eight vehicles used for transportation, as well as 1,577 jerrycans of PMS (25 litres each), totalling 39,425 litres, were taken into custody. “The duty paid value of the product stands at N39.425 million, and that of the means of conveyance stands at N24 million, cumulatively amounting to N63.425 million,” he said. Adeyemi Isaac Adekitan, who has firsthand experience with fuel smuggling operations, told Legit.ng that it: “Is not just a criminal act, it is an entire underground economy with well-organized operations, structured hierarchies, and a wide network of collaborators.” “Smuggling operations function like a business, with logistics, supply chains, and ‘staff’ on payroll,” he said, noting that “complicity often extends to some members of security agencies who are supposed to enforce border laws.” “The profit from aiding smugglers can far outweigh official salaries, creating strong incentives for corruption. Some officials are even direct participants in the trade,” Adekitan added. He further criticised the government’s enforcement strategy within a fixed kilometer radius from the border as “impractical, particularly in vast border localities,” citing that “a filling station can be legally located 100km from the border and still act as a hub for smuggling operations.” Expert recommends reform, intelligence over crackdowns To effectively combat fuel smuggling while protecting legitimate businesses, Adekitan said Nigeria needs “deep structural, institutional, and attitudinal reform.”
He emphasised that, “There must be an overhaul of security agency operations at the borders, with strict accountability measures and real consequences for collusion or corruption.”
He also noted that “border communities must be reoriented through targeted economic alternatives and civic education,” explaining that “to many residents, smuggling is not a crime but a way of life” because “they share culture, language, and family ties with people on the other side of the border.” Adekitan further stressed the importance of: “Investing in drone technology, satellite surveillance, and community-based intelligence networks to monitor illegal fuel movement in real time.” He cautioned that the government should “avoid blanket policies that penalize legitimate business owners” and instead conduct risk-based assessments to enforce compliance without harming local economies. “Fuel smuggling cannot be curbed by brute-force policies alone,” he noted, calling for a multifaceted approach that addresses “both the economic incentives driving smuggling and the institutional failures enabling it.” Adekitan, however, clarified that his opinions are personal and do not represent the views of any organisations he is affiliated with.

This means a litre of the petrol would be sold at N400/litre. The product was seized over the weekend by the agency’s task force, Operation Whirlwind, which confiscated petrol valued at over N63 million in the Lagos-Ogun axis, as reported by Daily Sun. National Coordinator, Ejibunu, praised the seizure as a significant victory in the battle against economic sabotage during a press briefing at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos, over the weekend. NNPC, Dangote refinery’s partners reduce costs Legit.ng also reported that petrol price battles between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited had led to reductions in filling station prices.

“Nigeria ignored our warnings about France funding terrorism in Africa” – Niger President.

Niger’s military leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, has alleged that France is orchestrating a plot to establish a terrorist base in Nigeria through the Wagner Group, a controversial private military company.

2025 Budget: FG To Establish Ranches In Lagos, Ogun, Imo, others.

The new Ministry of Livestock Development will this year establish ranches in seven states across the Federation.

Checks by Nigerian Tribune revealed that two of the ranches will be in South west states of Lagos and Ogun while another two will be located in Imo and Cross River states in the south east and south south zones, respectively.

Two North East states of Adamawa and Taraba will equally have ranches along with the North West state of Kebbi.
The 2025 Budget sighted by Nigerian Tribune revealed that a total sum of N315m has been allocated to establish the ranches.

Aside from the allocation for ranches, the new Ministry with a total budget sum of N 11.8 Billion also made provision for poultry domestication farms in Delta, Abia and Bauchi states with a total sum of N150 million.

The Ministry budget has an overhead component of N1,800,000,000 and capital component of N10 billion.
A total sum of N600m has been allocated for provision of “Solar Powered in Livestock Production Communities in 30 Federal Constituencies of Nigeria.

Curiously, it also has N50 Million as provision of solar powered street lights for grazing reserves.
Further checks revealed that to address the mutual hostility between farmers and herders, the sum of N86 million has been allocated.

According to the budget, N85million will be spent on Stakeholders engagement with Governors, traditional rulers, leaders of thought on farmers – herders conflict at federal and state levels.

A total sum of N101m has been allocated for “establishments of Farmers and Herders Conflict Resolution Mechanism in Community, Ward, LGA, and State Levels.

The New Ministry also made provision for N97million as total expenditure to ” Establish a performance management system platform to Track Staff Performance.”

Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration had last July approved the creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development at the inauguration of
the Renewed Hope livestock reform implementation committee at the State House, Abuja.

The committee was mandated to provide sector-focused solutions to address the age-long farmers-herders crisis.

Recall that on September 14, 2023, the National Livestock Reforms Committee had recommended that Tinubu create a “Ministry of Livestock Resources” to, among other deliverables, reduce the decades-long gory conflict between farmers and nomadic cattle herders nationwide.
