Politics › Re: Why New Ebonyi Airport Will Adversely Affect Enugu Airport by Gjrich(m): 3:03pm On Nov 16, 2024
The Ebonyi Airport serves as a prime example of a white elephant project, characterized by high maintenance costs and low economic returns.

Its lack of viability is exacerbated by the fact that 90% of Ebonyi residents cannot afford air travel.

Instead of prioritizing such costly endeavours, investments in human development and essential infrastructure would propel Ebonyi to become Nigeria's richest state.
Key areas for investment include:

1. Free education (primary to university)
2. Free healthcare in state-run hospitals
3. Vocational training for youths
4. Empowering farmers through sustainable agricultural research and development
5. Agricultural livestock (cattle, goats, pigs, poultry)
6. Crop farming (rice, cassava, palm oil, plantain, banana, mango, oranges, maize, sorghum, cowpea, groundnut oil, cashew, rubber, soybeans, coconut)
7. Essential infrastructure (borehole water in all villages)

Inspiration can be drawn from the Governor of Niger State's initiatives, investing in massive Rice farming.

Currently, Ebonyi indigenes struggle to make ends meet, resorting to street hawking nationwide.
The prioritization of grand projects over people-centred initiatives facilitates the embezzlement of public funds.

Leaders must adopt sustainable, people-focused approaches, avoiding white elephant projects resulting from:

1. Poor planning
2. Inadequate demand assessment
3. Misallocated resources.

It's time for leaders to prioritize the well-being and prosperity of their people.
Politics › Tinubu Backs Two-State Solution In Gaza, Issue Warning To Israeli by Gjrich(op): 5:30pm On Nov 11, 2024
President Bola Tinubu, on Monday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, called for an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Tinubu warned that “empty condemnations” are not enough to end the conflict in Palestine, which, he said, “has persisted for far too long.”

The Nigerian leader made this argument at the extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit, convened to address the current situation in the Middle East.

President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

The one-day summit was a follow-up to the Riyadh summit of 2023 and was attended by Heads of State and Government from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, revealed Tinubu’s statement in a release signed on Monday, titled ‘At Saudi Summit, President Tinubu demands an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, calls for realisation of the two-state solution’.

The ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza began in October 2023 after Hamas’ attack, which left scores of Israelis dead.

Since the escalation began, over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed, with approximately 70 per cent of the casualties being women and children, according to the United Nations Human Rights Office.

The conflict has resulted in widespread destruction of infrastructure, including schools and hospitals, exacerbating the dire living conditions for Gaza’s residents.

International organisations have repeatedly called for immediate ceasefires and increased humanitarian aid to address the escalating crisis.

In response to the prolonged conflict, there has been a renewed international push for a two-state solution as a pathway to lasting peace.

European, Arab and Muslim nations have launched initiatives to garner support for Palestinian statehood, aiming to build institutions and promote the two-state framework.

Reiterating Nigeria’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, President Tinubu affirmed the country’s support for a two-state solution, where both Israelis and Palestinians can co-exist in security and dignity.

He noted that this solution remained a viable part of lasting peace in the region.

“The conflict in Palestine has persisted for far too long, inflicting immeasurable suffering on countless lives.

“As representatives of nations that value justice, dignity, and the sanctity of human life, we have a moral obligation to collectively bring about an immediate end to this conflict.

“It is not enough to issue empty condemnations. The world must work towards an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has persisted for far too long.

“No political aim, no military strategy, and no security concern should come at the expense of so many innocent lives,”
Tinubu stated.

The President called on parties in the Middle East conflict to respect the principles of proportionality and the basic rights of civilians, consistent with global legal and diplomatic frameworks.

He argued, “In a rules-based international order, states have the right of self-defence.

“But self-defence must take proportionality into account, in line with global legal, diplomatic, and moral frameworks.

“An entire civilian population, their dreams and futures, cannot be dismissed as collateral.”

Explaining Nigeria’s principled and consistent stance on the two-state solution, President Tinubu noted that it stands as a beacon of hope, representing the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to self-determination and peace.

“It is not just a diplomatic article of faith; it is a vision grounded in the principles of equality and mutual recognition.

“Achieving this vision requires a commitment to dialogue and respect for history. We all know this conflict did not begin on 7th October 2023.

“It can only be resolved through principled compromise, based on appreciation of the proper context,” he affirmed.

Tinubu described the conflict’s impact on history as “so visceral that the ripples of division spread far and quickly.”

“The corrosive impact of the images of endless violence, repeated on a billion smartphones around the world, is huge. We need to find new pathways to peace, without delay,” he continued.
The Nigerian leader commended King Salman of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for convening the summit, describing it as a vital opportunity to renew diplomatic efforts and work toward sustainable peace.

He assured the OIC that Nigeria, given its own experiences, would continue to support international efforts that advance peace and stability in the Middle East.

“Our own experiences, domestically and regionally, have taught us that identity politics are no substitute for respecting the nuances of diversity,” he said.

According to President Tinubu, “The path to reconciliation may be fraught with challenges, but it is through honest conversation that we can foster understanding.

“The international community has the opportunity to bring to bear new thinking on this most relentless challenge.

“It is our duty to engage in this dialogue with sincerity and resolve, recognising the complexities that each side faces.”

Tinubu also called for the establishment of a secretariat to implement the resolutions of the summit.

He urged the leaders to mandate select Heads of Government to canvass support globally and oversee the implementation of the summit resolutions, providing regular reports to a joint OIC and Arab League leadership until permanent peace is achieved in the Middle East.

In his opening remarks, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and Lebanon, including the targeting of civilians and the continued violation of the Al-Aqsa mosque.

He also condemned the Israeli ban on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees from delivering relief aid to Palestinians and the displacement of Lebanese people.

He emphasised the importance of preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Crown Prince highlighted Saudi Arabia’s role in promoting Palestinian statehood based on the 1967 borders, mentioning international recognition and the establishment of a Global Coalition with the European Union and Norway.

He urged more states to join the Global Coalition.

Politics › Re: Electricity Consumers Demand Disconnection Over Rising Tariffs by Gjrich(m): 8:48am On Nov 11, 2024
nairalanda1:
Not surprised.....the fact is after years of thinking power was cheap, we are waking up to the cold reality.

I'll leave this post i made earlier

The fact is, if we want power, we got to pay for it at high prices. But most of us don't want to because we won't be able to afford the prices needed to kick start the sector.
The basic truth is that only people from the South are paying for electricity. In the North, 90% of residents do not pay for their electricity. Our government is aware of this, which means it is only Southerners who are shouldering the financial burden in this country.

What’s even worse is that you can't disconnect their power supply.
For instance, in Niger State, some households pay N500 electricity bills monthly, while some villagers do not pay at all, yet they consume more electricity than we Southerners do.

This country is not united; Northerners are benefiting from the facilities provided by the federal government.

Well it didn't help you guys by mocking the murder of prominent northerners like the PM, Sarduna and military officers of northern extraction.

I heard Ibos in Kano went about telling their northern hosts that they were now fully in charge of the country.

There was even a record released celebrating the murder of the Sarduna.

Ibos even printed and circulated banners and calenders mocking the Sarduna being slaughtered with Kaduna Nzeagwu portrayed as Angel Micheal standing over a dead Sarduna that was depicted as Satan.

You brought this to yourselves.

But let's not ignore that Ibos also began murdering northerners in the occupied Midwest and across Biafra. The Ibos also systematically were murdering and genociding entire minority people in both the Midwest and occupied coastal lands of Biafra.

You were no saints.

What happened was simply instant karma in the form of FAFO (Fck Around , Find Out).

I used to have some pity for you guys over what transpired in the north but the hidden atrocities you committed on my people in the SS has made me come to realise that whatever the northerners did to you was justified.

Politics › Governor Obaseki Recalls Vigilante, Defies Inspector General Of Police. by Gjrich(op): 2:52pm On Nov 07, 2024
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has directed members of the Edo State Security Network to resume regular duties, in the wake of the deteriorating security situation in the state.

The directive may put the governor on a collision course with the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who placed a ban on the vigilante before the state governorship election held on September 21.

The Inspector General of Police, in the build-up to the governorship election, banned the security network from operation in the state.

Members of the opposition All Progressives Congress had fingered personnel of the network in the killing of a police Inspector, Akor Onuh, of MOPOL 45 Abuja, an orderly attached to its governorship candidate and now governor-elect, Monday Okpbholo.

The police orderly was killed at the airport, during a welcome reception for the deputy governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, after the Appeal Court nullified his impeachment and reinstated him to his position.

Following the hostilities and tension in the state, a few weeks after the election, the IGP banned the security network to allow peace to reign.

Obaseki protested the decision, as he even faulted the IG order, with the PDP and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, refusing to sign the peace agreement.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said the governor gave the directive for the resumption of duty of the security network, after undertaking a review of the recent rise in homicide in the state.

The statement read, “Governor Godwin Obaseki has directed members of the Edo State Security Network to resume their regular duties in the wake of deteriorating security situation in the state.

“The governor gave the directive after the State Security Council meeting on Monday, during which the council undertook a review of the recent rise in homicides and other security incidents in the state.

“The government noted that the current state of insecurity in the state would not be tolerated, and the Edo State Commissioner of Police has been mandated to ensure the restoration of order and sanity in the state.

“Obaseki restated the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.”

In the past three weeks, many lives have been lost to renewed cult war in the state, while the battle for land also intensified in some parts of the state.

When contacted, the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, promised to get back after finding out the true position of the matter.

He has yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.

Politics › Major Marketers Fighting Dangote In Court Over Control Of Petrol Import Market. by Gjrich(op): 2:20pm On Nov 07, 2024
Three subsidiaries of Dangote Group listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) saw their combined market capitalisation rise by N513.69 billion on Monday, the first trading day after the announcement of the start of production at the conglomerate’s oil refinery.

Three major oil marketers, AYM Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited, are fighting back in court against Dangote Refinery over the control Nigeria’s petrol import market.

The oil marketers contend that granting Dangote this monopoly could destabilise the nation’s energy sector, driving up prices and increasing economic hardship.

The marketers have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a suit filed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.L

They argue that Dangote’s refinery cannot meet the daily fuel demands of Nigerians, noting that competition in fuel imports helps keep prices manageable.

The marketers contend that relying solely on one company could result in supply shortages and put the nation in jeopardy.

The marketers, in a joint counter affidavit marked, FHC/ABJ/CS/1324/2024, and dated November 5, 2024, which was a response to an originating summon filed by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, argued that granting the application of Dangote refinery would not mean well the country’s oil sector.

They emphasised that the plan to monopolise the oil sector is a recipe for disaster in the country.

Dangote refinery in its originating summon dated September 6, 2024, had sued Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited, AYM Shafa Limited, A. A. Rano Limited, T. Time Petroleum Limited, 2015 Petroleum Limited, and Matrix Petroleum Services Limited as 1st to 7th defendants respectively.

The refinery had prayed the court to declare that NMDPRA violated Sections 317(cool and (9) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) by issuing licenses for the importation of petroleum products.

It stated that such licenses should only be issued in circumstances where there is a petroleum product shortfall.

It also urged the court to declare that NMDPRA is in violation of its statutory responsibilities under the PIA for not encouraging local refineries such as the company.

Shafa, A. A. Rano, and Matrix Petroleum, however, responded that Dangote refinery does not produce adequate petroleum products for the daily consumption of Nigerians.

They noted that Dangote refinery has not placed anything before the court to prove the contrary.

They argued that they are well qualified and entitled to be issued an import licence by NMDPRA to import petroleum products in Nigeria within the meaning of Section 317(9) of the PIA.

They also noted that they are fully qualified for the issuance of the import licences issued to them by the 1st defendant, as they duly met all the legal requirements for the issuance of such import licences, before the same were issued to them.

“The import licences lawfully and validly issued to the defendants did not in any way whatsoever, cripple the plaintiff’s business or its refinery.

“The import licenses issued to the defendants by the 1st defendant are in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act, 2018, and other relevant laws,” they contended.

They contended that giving Dangote Refinery the power of monopoly in Nigeria’s petroleum industry would kill the competitive pricing of petroleum products in the country, noting that such would further hurt the country’s critically economy.

They also added that it would “unleash untold hardship on Nigerians, all of which constitute a recipe for disaster in the polity.”

“That in the event of any breakdown in or obstruction to the production chain of the plaintiff which stops it from producing Nigeria will be thrown into energy crises because it does not have the reserves that would last it for at least 30 days that it would need to order, pay for, freight and import refined products into tanks in Nigeria.

“That amidst the glaring absence of any credible and demonstrable proof that the plaintiff refines and supplies adequate petroleum products for the daily use/consumption of Nigerians, is a recipe for disaster in Nigeria’s energy sector.”

They further told the court that granting the reliefs sought by the plaintiff was a design to leave Nigeria and Nigerians at the mercy of the plaintiff with respect to the availability and cost of purchasing petroleum products in the country.

The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo fixed January 20, 2025, for a report of settlement or service.

Politics › Ritual Killings On The Rise In Southwest, Nigerians Are Advice To Be Vigilant by Gjrich(op): 2:51pm On Nov 05, 2024
Ritual Killers On Massive Prowl, Hunting For Vitims In South West

The teenagers with the roasted head of their victim in Ogun State

The spate of ritual killings in the country for money rituals has assumed an alarming proportion in the South West.
The culprits are mostly youths, including teenagers.

Dozens of teenagers, youths and the elderly have been arrested over the murder of innocent people for ritual purposes.

Many of them were found with body parts and the in the course of interrogation by law enforcement agents, many of them admitted that some traditional worshippers or ritualists asked them to kill, or to produce body parts of humans to pave the way for them to become rich.

Residents of the South West states including Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti now live in trepidation with experts blaming poor upbringing and failure of diligent prosecution as motivators for the rising cases of ritual killings.

Girl’s head decapitated, burnt in Ogun

Three teenagers and 20-year-old Mustekeem Balogun were arrested recently for beheading and burning the head of Sofiat Kehinde for money rituals. Our correspondent gathered that the chilling incident took place in the Oke Aregba community in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

A trio of the culprits, 17-year-old Wariz Oladeinde, 19-year-old Abdulgafar Lukman and , were said to be boyfriends of the deceased girl.

While being paraded by the police at the state headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the boys admitted that they saw on Facebook the guidelines on how to perform rituals and get rich.

Majekodunmi stated that when the victim visited him on Friday, he strangled her, then beheaded her with the support of the other boys.

He also explained that earlier, he and the accomplices had contributed some money and purchased other ingredients needed for the ritual and waited in anticipation for the d-day when they would pounce on the lady, who was introduced to him in December last year.

Human heads, hands found on suspects in Ondo

Recently, 30-year-old Timothy Odeniyi was arrested with fresh human parts in Ondo town by men of the State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun.

Olaniyi, who claimed to be a trailer driver with a popular brewery company where he resigned in 2020, admitted that he was caught with a bag containing two severed human hands and two human legs at the Sabo area of the city.

He also confessed that he was promised N30 million after delivering the human parts in Lagos State.

Weeks earlier, policemen in the state also arrested a self-acclaimed cleric identified as Alfa Tunde Olayiwola with a fresh human head.

Olayiwola was arrested at the Ajagbale area of Ondo Town with a bag containing a fresh human head.

The suspect, according to the police, confessed that he wanted to use the head to ‘better his life.’

11 in possession of human parts arrested in Lagos

Eleven suspects were also arrested by the Lagos State Police Command between September and December 2021, for being in possession of human parts.

Under graduate’s head cut off, roasted in Osun

A few years ago, a 400-level student of Osun State University, Oluwafemi Shonibare, was abducted, killed, butchered and allegedly used for money ritual in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The victim was said to have been killed and used for money rituals by some teenagers.

After killing him, they cut off his head and roasted it as part of the money-making rituals.

The culprits, who were arrested by security agents, confessed that they hit the deceased with a pestle on the head and later butchered him. They also admitted that they roasted the head, but luck ran out on them when they were apprehended by the police.

Rofiat Adebisi, another 400-level student of the same university was also killed for money ritual at Iragbiji area of the state.

The deceased had boarded a car while returning home from school. The driver was said to have hypnotised her after which her lifeless body was found along Egbeda Road.

Justice Jide Falola of the Osun State High Court sentenced the murderers to death by hanging.

‘Don’t blame filmmakers’

Speaking on their alleged role in motivating youths to go into ritual killings, the President of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Bolaji Amusan, said bad parenting and government should be blamed for increasing money rituals among the youths.

He pointed out that for every money ritual in a Nollywood movie, there is always a consequence that serves as a deterrent for viewers.

Amusan said: “Those who are pointing accusing fingers at us, that’s their own thinking. I have never seen a movie that anybody will do rituals without consequences. And our movies are being categorized 15, 18, PG. If it is categorised as 15, it means if you are not older than 15 you can’t watch it. If it is 18, it means if you are not older than 18, you can’t watch it.

“Can you say it is because American actors are shooting in their movie that’s why crimes are rampant in America? No. It is the society, parents and government. They have neglected a lot of things. Some parents are not even taking care of their children. A 17-year-old will come home with a car and the parents will not ask him where he gets the car from.

“You watch a movie halfway and you are telling us it is those people that are celebrating crimes. Why don’t you watch the movie to the end to know what happened to the person who played the role?” he asked.

He, however, promised that movies makers and actors would continue to play their roles as a mirror of the society in propagating morals and values in the country.

“This is an era of social media and definitely we have to play our roles as the mirror of the society to correct what’s wrong and live a very worthy life worthy of emulation,” Amusan said.

Piqued by the appalling trend, the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association has called on the government to clamp down on self-acclaimed ritualists that claim to have the power to enrich others through human parts. It argued that no Yoruba deity had been recorded to have used human parts for wealth rituals.

The Oyo State Branch of the body said the current trend in Nigeria and Africa, where youngsters flaunt cash, jewellery, posh automobiles and other material wealth on the social media, thereby inviting unsuspecting members of the public to subscribe to the same venture, was horrible and should be sanctioned by relevant authorities.

The Chairman of the Ibadan Branch of the Traditional Worshippers Association of Nigeria, Surveyor Adefabi Dasola, and the Secretary, Mogaji Fakayode Fatunde, noted that the progenitors of Ifa oracle never claimed to have used human parts to seek prosperity.

The traditionalists added that Ifa adherents would rather call on ‘Eledumare’ to bless whoever that sought wealth through them and whenever appeasements were to be done, sugarcane, salt, banana and other relevant items were used.

“The world no longer has respect for our traditions. They think we are all guilty of human rituals. No history of Africa or Yoruba gave credence to wealth through the use of humans for rituals,” they said.

The group, which also blamed the government for the high rate of unemployment among the youths, also called on religious leaders to reorient Nigerians on the dignity of labour and hard work.

“We should give much of the blame on the doorsteps of our leaders in the society. Their display of wealth in the face of widespread poverty, where the majority of youths are jobless and what belongs to the people are kept in the hands of a few, are the major causes of the problem.

“Today, TikTok, Instagram and other social media platforms are being used by these people to escalate the rate of ritual killings in our society as our young ones now believe that it is easier to access wealth through rituals with human parts than doing a noble job. We call on the government to quickly establish an understanding with owners of social media platforms to either ban those displaying horrible content on the platforms or make upload of such content impossible,” they said.

The traditionalists also called on Nigerians to step up campaigns against ritual killings which, they said, had become a recurrent decimal in the country.

They also called on regulatory bodies to censor Nigerian movies, especially Nollywood that have contents that project the use of human beings for money rituals.

They stressed that the projections, which are sometimes fictitious, have made gullible youths believe in the make-believe shows which propel them to venture into money ritual activities, especially killing and selling of human body parts.

Experts have blamed family backgrounds for the rising cases of ritual activities among youths.

A senior lecturer with the Department of Psychology, Lagos State University (LASU), Dr Ajala Alimi, said that Nigeria did not find itself in this situation accidentally.

He blamed the trend on changing societal values.

“The society has changed drastically. Most of the values we were known for are no longer there. The emphasis today is materialism. Parents of today have no time for their kids because they are always rushing in search of money. They leave them under the care of some individuals. So, what we see in return is the get-rich-quick syndrome.”

He called on the federal government to provide jobs for the teeming youth so that they will not be idle.

The Principal of Igbobi College in Lagos, Reverend Adedotun Akanbi, also blamed the home for the failure of the society.

“It is the background where the child grew that determines what he will become. It is obvious that in Nigeria, the home has failed, the average kidnapper came from a home,” he said.

Osun State Commissioner for Information, Mrs Funke Egbemode, appealed to parents to monitor their children adequately, especially the girl-child so as not to fall prey to ritualists.

Egbemode said the state government would embark on sensitisation in schools to inculcate good morals in youths and teach them to shun negative tendencies such as ritual killings.

‘Religious leaders have role to play’

The chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lagos State, Rt. Rev. Stephen Adegbite, described the situation as unfortunate.

He tasked the youth on patience, hard work and dedication and encouraged them to wait for their own time.

“How will a boy of 15 years or 18 years want to use a car that his father or grandfather could never afford to buy throughout their lifetime?
Unless they change, they will continue to face these problems they are facing. We just pray that God will touch their hearts and they will also release themselves to be used by God.”

Bishop Seun Adeoye of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Okinni, Osogbo, called on the government to reintroduce both Islamic and Christian Religious Studies in schools across the country and to teach youths good values such as hardworking.

The Chief Imam of Ifelodun Muslim Community in Osogbo, Osun State, Dr Waheed Bamigbade, also charged religious leaders to educate people, particularly the youths to not get carried away by materialism.

Security operatives vow to go after culprits

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, admitted an increase in ritual killings, especially among the youths.

He blamed the incident on bad parenting and urged religious leaders to ensure they play relevant roles towards restoring a culture of hard work and morals into society.

The state Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State, Adetunji Adeleye said that the crime trend had started shifting from kidnaping to ritual killings.

He warned those looking for quick money to desist as the corps is battle-ready to apprehend culprits.

Politics › Labour Leaders React As Niger State Targets ₦1 Million Minimum Wage. by Gjrich(op): 8:39am On Oct 30, 2024
Labour Leaders React As Niger State Targets ₦1 Million Minimum Wage.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago has announced a bold vision for civil servant pay, revealing an ambitious target to establish a ₦1 million minimum wage.

Speaking at the Government House in Minna on Friday, Bago emphasised his administration’s commitment to enhancing worker welfare through substantial wage increases.

The governor confirmed that, effective November, civil servants in Niger State would receive a new minimum wage of ₦80,000, which was settled upon following extensive discussions with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) leaders in the state.

Bago expressed confidence in the state’s ability to sustain this increase, citing plans to fund the wage hike to leverage agricultural growth.

“This ₦80,000 is sustainable. We are sure that with our stride in agriculture, we can pay. We are creating a civil service farm so that civil servants can be productive. With that, we are sure that we can do ₦1 million as minimum wage,” Bago stated.

The governor assured that the wage increase would apply to civil servants in state and local governments, and October’s salaries have already been disbursed.

NLC Chairman Idrees Lafene praised the development, acknowledging that while ₦80,000 falls short of current living costs, it marks a positive step forward for state workers.

“It is not commensurate with a bag of rice, but at least, it is a step forward,” he commented, reflecting on the pressing economic challenges facing civil servants.

This initiative signals a significant shift in Niger State’s approach to worker compensation, sparking hope among civil servants for continued improvement.

1-Physical assault (Slapping)
2-Threat to life and bodily harm. (I will make you disappear)
3-False Misrepresentation and impersonation ( You are not a senator, you are a member house of representative.....)
4-Disregard for the law. (You can go ahead and call the IG of police)
5-Destruction of property. (Tore his cloth and damaged his phone)

The right thing to do is to remove this member by having him face the house disciplinary committee and then expelled. He has brought enough dishonor and disrepute to the house. There is nothing "honorable" about ikwegech. He is nothing but a thug using his office to abuse people. I also strongly believe he is on hard drugs.
You are not far from the truth.
He is on hard drugs.
A reasonable man will not behave like that.

Politics › Oil Marketer To Nigerians: Be Ready To Pay N2,500 Per Liter For Petrol. by Gjrich(op): 12:46pm On Oct 23, 2024
Group Managing Director, Rainoil Ltd, Gabriel Ogbechie, has asked Nigerians to prepare to pay full market prices for petroleum products as a result of the full deregulation of the downstream sector.

After President Bola Tinubu announced that the subsidy was gone, the pump price of petrol rose from N198 to N545 per litre, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) regulated pump prices at its outlets nationwide.

But two weeks ago, NNPCL exited its middleman role, forcing the pump price of fuel to sell between N998 and N1,250 per litre.

While appearing on Channels Television’s Business Morning on Tuesday, Ogbechie lauded Tinubu’s decision on the removal of fuel subsidy, saying that it allowed for healthy competition in the downstream sector.

“President Tinubu did the right thing by saying the subsidy was gone. He removed the subsidy and then we saw the price of petrol slide upwards.

“At some point, I think the government had to intervene to calm things down and then NNPCL went back to fixing the prices of petroleum products.

“But in October, we saw the government now saying such would not be allowed anymore, directing marketers to source their products and fix prices.

“I also don’t believe that the exchange rate has been floated. Every day you go to the market, it is now a willing buyer, willing seller situation.”

When asked if prices of petrol at the pump would continue to rise, he said; “The key thing is that deregulation is here to stay. Petrol is anything between N1000 and n1060 per litre towards the coast, and maybe N1300 as you go further north.

“As long as the price of crude oil keeps changing, as long as the exchange rate keeps changing, prices of petrol too will keep changing.

“If we see a massive drop in the price of crude oil, the price of petrol will also drop. If we see a drop or devaluation in the price of the exchange rate, there will also be a drop in the price of petrol. “Nobody can exactly tell you what will happen in the next six months. But Nigerians should just be ready to pay the market-determined prices for petroleum products.”

Verydarkman Finally Meets His Imitator Veryfairman; Prepares Him For The Battles To Come.

VDM threw a direct challenge to the young imitator, who had once entertained followers with lighthearted impressions but now stands on the threshold of something far greater. The mantle of responsibility was now his to bear, and VDM made it clear that there would be no room for betrayal, no tolerance for backing down in the face of societal wrongs.

Verydarkman has made a bold and unexpected move by officially welcoming his impersonator, Veryfairman, into his inner circle, forging an unlikely yet powerful alliance.

In a video that has taken social media by storm, Veryfairman was seen kneeling before VDM in a symbolic act of submission, as the crusader handed him an amulet.

This shocking link-up between the original and his impersonator has ignited a fiery reaction among their followers, sending ripples across the internet.

Martins Otse, known to the world as Verydarkman (VDM), has finally crossed paths with his impersonator, Veryfairman, in a dramatic turn of events that has set social media ablaze.

What could have been dismissed as an amusing act of mimicry has instead evolved into a powerful alliance, as VDM officially endorsed Veryfairman to join him in the fierce fight for justice that has captivated the nation.

Veryfairman, who had long admired and imitated the popular social critic, could hardly contain his excitement when he met his mentor for the first time, sharing a heartfelt video in which his joy and respect for VDM were on full display.

However, it was their next encounter that truly shook the online community. In a striking video that has since gone viral, Veryfairman was captured kneeling before Verydarkman, head bowed, as VDM performed a symbolic ritual that resonated deeply with their followers.

With gravity and purpose, VDM placed an amulet around Veryfairman’s neck—a powerful, almost ceremonial gesture that instantly elevated their bond from mere admiration to a shared destiny.

Verydarkman’s words in that moment carried weight: a stern warning to Veryfairman, telling him to never stray from the path of justice, to never compromise in the face of corruption or power.

“I’m fully fortified @verydarkblackman I’m grateful. I cherish this gift so much This worth more than gold,” Veryfairman wrote in a caption.

Northern groups plot to draft Jonathan into the 2027 presidential contest

Northern groups plot to draft Jonathan PDP hails Jonathan as ‘exceptional leader’ at 64

SOME power brokers from the northern part of the country have initiated moves to draft former president Dr Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race.

The permutation is that Jonathan is only eligible for a term of four years, having served as president between 2011 and 2015. The project is led by a North East state governor and a retired General from the North West.

Saturday Tribune learnt that the leaders weighed their options based on the collective interest of the North before electing to bank on the fact that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) allows a maximum of eight years of four years each for president.

The move is part of the latest efforts by those described as members of the highly influential caucus in the northern power bloc to abort President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

There is, however, a counter-group which includes some governors and influential politicians who are rooting for another southern politician for the top job. Both groups are against Tinubu’s re-election.

Although talks and consultations are still at the exploratory stage, the promoters of the Jonathan-for-2027 project recently launched intense lobbying of certain critical stakeholders in the Nigeria project to get them to join in the bid to convince the former governor of Bayelsa State, who has been mostly engaged in diplomatic and other activities to foster peace and democratic norms around the world.

A source within the fold told Saturday Tribune that the northern leaders working behind the scenes on the Jonathan-for-2027-presidency lobby are bigwigs from across the political divide in the North who are united and determined to stop what they called Tinubu’s mismanagement of the country.

According to another inside source, to bolster the effort, forces within the coalition have reached out to like minds across the six geopolitical zones, civil and pro-democracy bodies and other pressure groups to rally their commitment and support for the project.

Jonathan, who served as the vice president from 2007 to 2010 under the administration of Umaru Yar’Adua, is said to be the choice of the northern leaders because he took the oath of office as president in 2011 after contesting and winning at the poll following his completion of the term of his boss, Yar’Adua, who died during a protracted illness.

The promoters of the move also believe that given the prevailing circumstances in the nation’s political space, Jonathan is sellable because of his goodwill across the three geopolitical zones in the South and because his candidature could galvanise maximum support in the 17 states in the axis.

The permutation is also that the southern support could complement the goodwill Jonathan still enjoys in most of the 19 states in the North nine years after his presidency.

In August this year, there was a report that certain leaders had tinkered with the possibility of persuading Jonathan to contest the 2027 race.

The initiative coincided with the position canvassed by a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the Jonathan administration and current governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, that he would step down the possibility of running for president if Jonathan bowed to pressure to take a fresh shot at the presidency.

After an event organised by a pressure group, Save Africa Initiative (SAI), the governor was quoted as saying that Jonathan had more experience and would do a good job if he had another opportunity to lead the country.

“With regard to your call for me to present myself, I am still contemplating my chances as the leader of the opposition. I know there are good leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), especially my boss, Goodluck Jonathan.

“I have always said that as long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for the leadership of this country unless he decides not to run. If we can persuade him to come forward, I will support him with my blood. Out of modesty, he is still not ready. I hope you will meet him and encourage him to run.

“He will do a better job because he has the experience. We know the prices of things; we know the level of inflation. His leadership recruitment was exemplary. We need leaders like him – young people with energy, foresight and drive,” Mohammed argued.

Besides, there were attempts by certain individuals and groups to drag the former president into last year’s presidential race, especially under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, on February 4, 2023, the APC denied the widespread rumour that it was planning to field Jonathan as its candidate for the election.

This followed reports that some governors from the North were working hard to guarantee the former president the APC ticket, which the party said was a figment of imagination.

Also, Jonathan declared that he was interested in the APC ticket after months of speculations and after a group of his supporters from the North had paid for the nomination forms for him to contest in the APC primary.

But his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze, said in a statement that Jonathan did not authorise the purchase of the nomination forms for the contest.

Jonathan was president between 2010 and 2015 under the PDP, now in the opposition.

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians for Dr Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 presidential election, we wish to state that he has not in any way committed himself to this request.

“We wish to categorically state that Dr Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it,” Eze stated.

Interim national committee chairman of the APC then, the governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, during a BBC Hausa Service interview, dismissed insinuations to drag Jonathan into the race for the party’s ticket.

He said: “Those peddling such information are afraid. But for now, there is nothing in APC that has anything to do with the aspiration for 2023.

“Even if someone wants to base assumption on our recent visit to him during his birthday, we were there because of his status as a former President of Nigeria.

“Again, even if there is nothing when we are talking of peaceful coexistence, we must give credit to former President Jonathan on the issue of peace, how he accepted defeat in 2015 and resigned to fate. That has qualified him to be a statesman and he is now among our fathers.

“Our visit to Jonathan was pronounced because of his status as a former president that could be why some may think there was something beneath it.

“There are numerous such visits to leaders of PDP and APC; why are others not being mentioned but Jonathan?

Politics › Breaking: Bola Tinubu’s Govt Increase Cost For Number Plates, Driver’s License. by Gjrich(op): 5:46pm On Oct 10, 2024
BREAKING NEWS: Nigerians Faces Another Tough Time As Bola Tinubu’s Govt Increase Cost For Number Plates, Driver’s License.

Amid the economic hardship in Nigeria, the Joint Tax Board (JTB) has announced revised rates for national driver’s licenses and vehicle number plates, set to take effect from November 1, 2024. Under the new pricing structure, Nigerians will now pay N15,000 for a three-year motor vehicle driver’s license, while a five-year license will cost N21,000.

Motorcycle and tricycle operators will also experience a price hike, with the three-year license now set at N7,000 and the five-year option at N11,000.

In addition to the driver’s license rate adjustments, the cost of vehicle number plates has seen a considerable increase.

Standard private and commercial vehicle number plates will now be priced at a minimum of N30,000. Fancy number plates, often used for personalized identification, will be sold at N400,000, while motorcycle number plates will cost N12,000.

Dealer motor vehicle number plates have been set at N100,000. Government vehicle number plates have also been affected by the revision.

The government fancy motor vehicle number plate will now cost N120,000, while the standard plate will be N80,000. For motorcycles, the government fancy number plate is priced at N50,000, and the standard number plate is at N20,000.

According to the JTB, the new rates will support the implementation of enhanced security features aimed at improving the identification processes for both drivers and vehicles across Nigeria.

Olusegun Adesokan, Secretary of the JTB, emphasized the importance of public awareness and education concerning these changes.

He said in a circular: “The secretariat has requested that the FRSC notify the JTB of its public engagement and sensitization plans. “This is to enable relevant inputs where necessary, as we are confident that a very robust engagement arrangement will ensure the seamless implementation of the revised rates as approved by the board.
