Winner of the upcoming 2023 Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup Football Tournament is expected to part with the whopping sum of *N1billion* as star prize.

The tournament, organised by Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation, in partnership with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) is under the auspices of the Nigeria Premier Football League Limited.

A release spotted by our reporter on Sunday said the number of participating team has been expanded to 12 and all selected from from the NPFL, Nigeria's top tier league.

The report added that the first runner-up team will smile home with ₦200m while the sum of ₦20m will go for each of the 12 teams for their participation.

The decision to expand the tournament to include 12 top teams from the previous season was made in response to overwhelming demand from fans and stakeholders for more high-level football action, the sponsor Dozy Mmobuosi explained

"Following the huge success recorded in the maiden edition last December, it became necessary to increase the funding and allow teams to invest more resources in players, facilities, and infrastructure to attract top talents to the league, and raise the overall standard of football in Nigeria," Mmobuosi was quoted to have said.

The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NPFL, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, described the development as a huge impetus to the evolving reforms to stabilise the league.

While expressing gratitude over the development, Elegbeleye commended Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation for the partnership with the NPFL.

"The Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation Pre-season Tournament is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent in the league, promote Nigerian football to a broader audience, and inspire teams and players to contribute to the growth of the sport in the country", remarked Elegbeleye.

In his reaction to the first of its kind partnership, Davidson Owumi, the NPFL Head of Operations described the development as consistent with the IMC vision to reposition the league to become financially rewarding to clubs and by extension, the players and coaching staff.

Towards a seamless organisation of the tournament, an organising committee comprising representatives of Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation and the NPFL has been constituted to manage various aspects of the event.

Ebuwa Martins Agbonwaneten, CEO of Dozy Mmobuosi Foundation has reiterated the foundation's commitment to using sports as a vehicle to support social and economic development in Nigeria.

"The Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup Football Tournament is an excellent platform to promote the growth and development of football in Nigeria and we look forward to another successful tournament and the opportunity to showcase the best of Nigerian football", Agbonwaneten stated.

The inaugural edition of the Dozy Mmobuosi Super Cup took place in November 2022 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos, where Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan emerged champions to claim the ₦100 million top prize with all the four participating teams received an appearance fee of ₦10 million.

The leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo (women wing) Chief Mrs. Rita Daniels Chukwuji says she is in solidarity with the Board Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie saying she has demonstrated capacity to pilot the affairs of the commission.

Speaking with correspondents in Abuja on Wednesday, Chief Mrs. Daniels said Onochie is a sad example of how women have been subjected to unwarranted attacks in the country just for being females, calling on Nigerians to have a re-orientation of the mind.

She said the series of disenchantment that greeted the nomination of Onochie as NDDC chairman because of her closeness to President Muhammadu Buhari as his aide was needless and resonates how women have been limited by the system from giving their best in efforts to serve the country.

"As someone with the interest of women, I stand in solidarity with Chief Lauretta Onochie, the Board Chairman of NDDC and all women who have faced society-induced attacks because of their gender.

"Her recent political persecution, including her suspension from her party which has now been reversed is a clear indication that gender-based attacks are very common in Nigeria and must be dealt with.

"In a short while, the once comatose NDDC is now gaining a new life, fulfilling the aims and objectives for which it was created. Kudos to the first female chairman ever.

"I appeal to women across the country to support theirs and shun antagonistic gestures that will reverse the gains being made to have more women representation in government", she said.

She further described Onochie as a grassroots mobilizer who has attracted the love and support of Anioma women through several philanthropic and humanitarian projects she had embarked upon.

She also called on other women across the country to demonstrate solidarity with Onochie and all other women facing persecution because of their gender.

The women of Anioma are also drumming support for their daughter while applauding her for consistency and impact in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Excitement As 2023 Northern Nigeria Peace Conference Ends, Top Personalities Honoured

The 2023 edition of the annual Northern Nigeria Peace Conference/Awards was on Thursday concluded with top personalities honoured for their outstanding roles in peace building

The event organised by Ambassador Kingsley Amafibe is part of efforts to deeply entrench peace and unity across the northern region of the country following an increasing ethnic and religious differences.

The region has, in recent times, witnessed escalating crises traceable to differences in culture and religion.

The 2023 edition, which is the 4th in the series, took place at Merit House Maitama Abuja.

It also featured the induction and conferment of fellowship in Science and Management of Crown Point International College of Health Science and Technology and Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership USA.

The convener of Northern Nigeria Peace conference and award, Ambassador Kingsley Amafibe, said this year's edition is aimed at consolidating the success stories of the conference recorded over the years.

According to him, all hands should be on the desk to raise the frontiers of unity and peaceful co-existence in northern Nigeria and the country at large.

Among those who were honoured include Hon Nasir Adhama, Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Student Affairs, who was honoured with Northern Nigeria Peace Builder of the Year and inducted as fellow Science and Management
