But times have changed. Back in those days, a man typically made enough to take care of his household, but now, even two income households are bearly making ends meet.

I believe people have to be matured mentally before getting married and one has to reach a certain age to achieve mental maturity. You also have to consider the financial implications inherent with being married. If a 17 year old man marries a 14 year old girl, how are they going to support themselves in today's world ?

Well, prior to paying off the debt, the federal govt was paying $100 million monthly to service it ($1.2B per year). So this money should be channelled to improving our infrastructure, healthcare, education etc .

So, it looks good on paper.
