ono:Debosky, listen, you have to let ono be. Please leave him alone. Look at the statement he made that I quoted. Is this who you want to reason with ![]() Stop wasting your time. |

bombom_911:Be careful of the Nigerians you come in contact with as you seek their help. People have a tendency to take advantage of others that are in a dire situation. My advice to you (hopefully you have a green card) is to get a job and start saving/supporting yourself. While you are working, you need to glance through the newspapers and see how much it costs to rent a room or a 1 bedroom apartment; then save as much as you'll need to move out. You need to get an apartment or a room to rent asap. If you do not have the papers to work, that one na a whole nother issue altogether. I think it is pretty obvious that the folks around you are into drugs. Good luck. ![]() |
I-man and McKren, You both have solid points and make sense. For the most part, government should not be involved in businesses, it should just leave that to the private sector (of course, it should provide an environment in which the businesses can thrive). While the GSM story has been met with relative success in this regard, this is not necessarily applicable to all lines of businesses. I believe there are times when govt funds helps kick start an industry. Many corporations in the west were started by the govt and later privatized. This is what I hope will take place in the power sector in Nigeria, where private investors have been reluctant in partaking in the building of generation and transmission facilities. The govt can build the facilities (as it is now) and then privatize them later. So, you both make sense, its just that the govt has to know when it is best for it to put funds in a business and when not to (and like I said earlier, for the most part, it shouldn't). In short:- Developing country - govt might need to intervene directly in jump starting a business/ industry with its own funds (up to 100%) Developed country - no govt intervention is usually needed at all |
McKren:Why don't you just ask her out ? It's pretty obvious that you are in love with her. |
It is true that southerners engage in more crimes overseas because the bulk of the Nigerians living overseas are southerners (and middle belt folks) anyway. The issue here is, this Nigerian ambassador should not have spoken this way about any Nigerian be it southern or northern. He is not representing northern Nigeria as an ambassador, but Nigeria as a whole. So when he speaks, the only word that should come out of his mouth should be Nigeria and he should never say anything derogatory about the country in his capacity as an ambassador. To me, this is just plain common sense. |
well i believe the thread starter wanted to focus on the Yoruba scarification. i don't think it's singling anything out. What is the difference between "focusing on the yoruba scarification" and singling them out ? The reasons yorubas have tribal marks are the same reasons other Nigerian tribes have tribal marks - for identification. So, the appropriate thing to have done would've been to address the title of this thread to Nigerian tribes that use tribal marks and not just the yorubas. Anyway, I'll appreciate the thread starter to answer the question I originally posed. Quote from Laudate: The point being made here, is that different ethnic groups across Nigeria also have indigenes who carry different types of tribal marks. Thanks so much oo laudate. This is exactly the same point I was making. Great minds think alike. ![]() |
Shouldn't the thread topic say "What is the significance of Nigerian Tribal Marks" ? The yorubas are not the only ones with tribal marks in Nigeria, so why single them out ? |
I believe the Tinapa Business Resort should be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). So, if these aggrieved people from Cross Rivers state want to know the true ownership structure of tinapa, they should contact the CAC Is it really true that Donald Duke owns (or has a stake) in the company that currently manages tinapa ? I hope this isn't true. |
nice. i give it to hajia mariya, she is beautiful,My brother, na waa for you ooh. How do you know she is beautiful, have you seen her picture ? |
laudate:Laudate, na waa for you ooh. I have heared you say you have relations for the south east and south west and it seems you are from edo state. Now, you are saying you get plenty plenty relations for the north too; haba, is there a part of nigeria where you no get relations ? ![]() |
ono:OBJ didn't send the Nigerian Army after Odili because the Rivers State house of assembly has oversight function over the state executive branch. OBJ really shouldn't have to intervene if the Rivers State house of assembly was doing its job properly. I have answered your question, so please answer mine: What has the Rivers State house of assembly done about ex-Governor Peter Odili's looting of the Rivers State treasury ? |
I-man:I understand your point I-man. I don't mind the govt subsidising fuel, the thing is, there should be a cap to it. If the fed govt budgets $1.5 billion a year for subsidizing fuel, then we must stick to that figure. We can't expect the govt to carry all the burden regardless of price fluctuations and other market forces. |

Thanks so much for that insight @sturvs I am really glad to hear about the standard of education at both covenant and babcock. Many people have criticized obasanjo for raising the cost of higher education in Nigeria through the establishment of these (and other) private universities, but like I have said in the past: 1. government alone cannot provide all the educational needs for higher education in Nigeria. It doesn't satisfy the need at the primary or secondary schools, so having private universities only makes sense. 2. No one is forcing those that cannot afford to go to private universities to go there, so the issue of universal increase in the cost of university education is far fetched. 3. The establishment of private universities opens room for those who hitherto would have been unable to attend public universities, since a lot of qualified applicants are denied admission due to lack of space at the public universities. 4. The establishment of private universities will inevitably improve the quality of higher education in Nigeria because it'll foster competition among all universities. |

THIS DOES NOT BELONG IN THE POLITICS SECTION |
He brought GSM to Nigeria. He cleaned up the banking sector Nigeria's own satellite was launched during his term He formed the National Pension Commission - Pecom He formed the EFCC He had more women in top positions than any other head of state He cleaned up abuja and largely restored it to its original master plan He formed the Niger Delta Development Commission - NDDC Thirteen percent (13%) derivation for oil producing states Establishment of much more private universities in Nigeria Allowing the inclusion of private firms in power generation We were owing over $30 billion in 1999, now we owe around $5 billion (paid our foreign debt) He met $3 billion in reserves in 1999 and left over $40 billion in reserves in 2007. He didn't obey court orders - withholding Lagos LG funds against court orders He neglected Lagos Abuse of power - spending funds that have not been appropriated by the National Assembly Greatest Airplane crashes in Nigeria's history during his tenure Excessive Petrol Price Hikes He played a big role in the Anambra/Ngige scandal Lots of politically motivated killings remain unresolved - Bola Ige, Funsho Williams He was selective in his fight against corruption - he went after Tafa Balogun, Adolphus Wabara, but has left Tony Anenih, Sule Lamido untouched. |
