true talk my brother. People come here from all over the world and have an oppotunity to make something of themself as long as they are willing to put in the hard work. The country is not perfect, but it is a really great country.

God bless the USA.

FamilyRe: Men: Would You Carry Your Baby On Your Back At Home? by GNature(m): 11:39pm On Jul 04, 2007
Well david,

spoilt's post was written right after mine and I felt it was totally uncalled for. I didn't think what I wrote warranted such a response. People cannot express their views without being addressed anyhow.

I have seen how you yourself have gone after people like omo eko on a different thread because of this. If people want to be respected, they should learn how to respect themselves whether one is male or female.

Was tonim right in questioning spoilt as a mother ? No
Did what I wrote warrant such a response from spoilt ? No.

that's my 2 cents.
FamilyRe: Men: Would You Carry Your Baby On Your Back At Home? by GNature(m): 10:32pm On Jul 04, 2007
Tonim:
That is exactly what I am getting at, someone who calls herself a mother should not act so abrasive just because someone has a different point of view than hers. All this damn and fuss - for what ?

We women always want men to treat us with respect, but a lot of us don't conduct ourselves in a respectable manner.
You are so right my sister. Please just let the matter go so the thread is not derailed wink

@topic, i apologize for going off topic.
FamilyRe: Men: Would You Carry Your Baby On Your Back At Home? by GNature(m): 10:23pm On Jul 04, 2007
@tonim, spoilt responded that way because I had a different point of view than hers. It's just that simple.

I have been on a thread with her in the past where she acted in a similar manner. It is so unfortunate that she'll conduct her self as such.
EducationRe: Which Is The Best Course? by GNature(m): 5:53am On Jul 04, 2007
Donzman:
Take Economics man, you can learn mathematics in a good economics program too. There are very few economists in Nigeria so you can make a lot of noise with Demand and Supply graphs even when you know nothing.
Yes, but If you major in economics (and really want to do economics work), be prepared to go to school beyond the baccalaureate degree. In some quarters, you need to have a PhD in economics to really be considered an economist (but an MA could suffice).

oghos2k:
you guys are just so shallow in your thinking.Engineering is the only course one can study and affect lives and maybe medicine. Engineering deals basically with the safety of individuals.when working on a project, an engineer puts many things in place just to make sure the user of the finished product doestnt get himself injured or even killed.
A famous quote from Herbert Hoover illustrates this engineering view:

Engineering is a great profession. There is a fascination of watching a figment of the imagination emerge, through the aid of science, to a plan on paper. Then it moves to realization in stone or metal or energy. Then it brings jobs home to men. Then it elevates the standards of living and adds to the comfort of life. That is the engineer’’s high privilege.
true talk @oghos2k.

Engineering without a doubt, is one of the best courses to study. You get great analytic skills and can work in other disciplines such as IT or Business especially if you major in electrical engineering. Anyone who is really good in math should get a degree in engineering and proceed for an MBA. Before you know it, you'll be making six figure$.

But it really boils down to one's aptitude. You will excel in life if you study in a field that you have a high aptititude in. People like Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe wouldn't be where they are today if they studied medicine like most of our parents want us to.
PoliticsRe: Good Things Happening In Nigeria by GNature(m): 4:10am On Jul 03, 2007
I recall vividly that one of the reasons given for the banks to shore up their capital base to 25 billion naira was because they didn't loan money to the real sectors of the economy [not even close to what they should]. A good chunk of the money the banks made was through round tripping and feeding off govt funds.

So, if at all the banks are still engaging in round tripping, I'm sure it has decimated in this post-consolidation era.

Really ? That's really weird. All the Nigerians I know here can't get enough of Nigerian food.
TravelRe: Nairobi Photos (kenya): A Beautiful East African City by GNature(m): 4:37am On Jul 02, 2007
The first time I saw how beautiful Nairobi was was when I was viewing some satellite pictures on google earth. It was really breath taking. We really have a lot to learn from the Kenyans (and Ghanaians) on maintaining infrastructure.

Chill out oooh my brother. Don't give yourself a heart attack.

@topic

It is going to take time for the project to reach its full potential. The beautiful Dubai took 15 years to manifest into what it is today. Now, the UAE generates more money from tourism than it does from oil !

If properly managed, Tinapa has the potential of generating billions of naira in revenue for Cross River State as well as providing employment for the masses. But the right hands must be on deck as far as its management is concerned. We are not there yet, but we will get there.
PoliticsRe: North Lobbies Yar’adua Over Bamaiyi, Al-mustapha by GNature(m): 3:33am On Jul 02, 2007
Bamaiyi and Al-Mustapha should either be tried and jailed or released. The state just can't hold on to these folks indefinitely.

The US and UK are not begging Nigerians to come to their country, so what do they have to lose if we boycott their embassies ?

I mean, what do we stand to gain by boycotting their embassies ?
PoliticsRe: What Would You Do If White People Start Talking Shit To You And Your Friend? by GNature(m): 4:33am On Jul 01, 2007
you are right on the money BigB1.

I don't think a white person would dare talk shiiit to me in Nigeria, that white person will regret the day he was born.

But if I am in one of these really racist east european countries, my choices will definately be limited. The police might look the other way if their white counterpart talks shiiit to you, but if you retaliate, you could be arrested or harassed.

My first instinct of course is to talk shiit back, but one must proceed with caution (given the location).

denex:
I hope he can multiply Nigerian wealth better than he did with his
As far as the economy is concerned, Yar'Adua needs to surround himself with technocrats like Okonjo-Iweala, Bode Agusto, Ezekwesili, Soludo etc. He needs to appoint people based on their credentials and not their ethnic background or just for political reasons. He should surround himself with people that'll give him advise that'll benefit the country as a whole and not protect their interests. Otherwise, we are going to regress.
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Declares His Assets by GNature(m): 1:12am On Jul 01, 2007
Andy Uba was only an adviser to Baba, yet he is worth 1 trillion naira, ask him where he got his money from? Is it a crime for your president to be rich?
Nairalanders, please help me out. I have read from several people on this board that Andy Uba is worth 1 trillion naira (almost 8 billion dollars), how true is this ? Where is the source of this information ?
PhonesRe: Is The New $600 iPhone Really Worth Investing In? by GNature(m): 1:07am On Jul 01, 2007
It's a pretty cool device with its all in one capacity, but it's too damn expensive.

The best thing is to wait a couple of months/years for the price to come down.

Even if I was a millionaire, I don't think I'll purchase that device for $600.
PoliticsRe: United States Of Africa (what Ur View) by GNature(m): 12:46am On Jul 01, 2007
@kokoA

What kind of system of government is going to make the 100's (actually 1000's)  of cultures live under a uniform african-wide government ?

We are yet to remedy the Nigerian experiment with about 100 tribes

In central africa, you have hundreds of thousands of people that died as a result of ethnic cleansing

Look at the situation in Darfur, Sudan.

And the next thing on your mind is for all these individual states to team up and form a single country ? If anything, many african countries should split further into smaller countries like Ethiopia and Eritrea did. When these smaller "entities" get their stuff together, perhaps, we can entertain the thought of a single african state.

A child must learn how to crawl before he learns how to walk.
PoliticsRe: United States Of Africa (what Ur View) by GNature(m): 12:12am On Jul 01, 2007
Africa is too large to ever be a single country. I'm not sure if the proponents of this idea have seriously thought it through.
FamilyRe: Men: Would You Carry Your Baby On Your Back At Home? by GNature(m): 11:48pm On Jun 30, 2007
If my baby is crying and I am baby sitting, I can hold the baby up without necessarily backing the baby. I have no problem at all taking care of a child even if my wife (to be) isn't busy, but I wont back the baby. In the culture I grew up in, men don't back babies.

Thanks for sharing the LBS ranking with us. I am so happy for the school's accomplishment. I have said before that the establishiment of private higher institutions of learning is going to be a plus for Nigeria. The best is yet to come.
RomanceRe: Nigerian Raised at Home or Abroad: which would you prefer to marry? by GNature(m): 9:38pm On Jun 27, 2007
You can't make blanket statements like that. Something in the lines of "some nigerian guys" would've been more appropriate.

There are some naija ladies who could use some work with their attitude that I know of personally, but that wouldn't make me assert that all naija ladies are useless. This is the point I am getting at. Don't let your emotions take over everything, before you know it, mr. right will come along.

RomanceRe: Nigerian Raised at Home or Abroad: which would you prefer to marry? by GNature(m): 9:24pm On Jun 27, 2007
both abroad and Naija guy are useless, so what is the difference undecided
It is very unfortunate that you'll just label us naija guys like this. If you've had bad experiences with some of us in the past, that's understandable, but haba, how are you just going to call all of us useless ? Take time oh.
