You have never raised alarm on the ethnic cleansing going on in your backyard simply because you are living in Ibadan and you think you are excluded. Real Time" host Bill Maher said on Friday's episode the killing of Christians in Nigeria by Islamist groups is being ignored because "the Jews aren't involved."

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., noted during the panel's discussion that the media has failed to cover the tragedy occurring in Nigeria and thanked Maher for bringing the issue to light.

"Well, because the Jews aren’t involved. That’s why," Maher responded. "It’s the Christians and the Muslims — who cares?"

The "Real Time" host said Boko Haram, an Islamist group in the region, is "literally attempting to wipe out the Christian population of an entire country," asking, "Where are the kids protesting this?"

"They are systematically killing the Christians in Nigeria. They've killed over 100,000 since 2009. They've burned 18,000 churches. This is so much more. These are the Islamists, Boko Haram. This is so much more of a genocide attempt than what is going on in Gaza," he said.

Maher said the tragedy had not garnered the attention he believed it deserves, arguing that if "you don’t know what’s going on in Nigeria, your media sources suck."

"You are in a bubble," he said.

The U.K. division of Open Doors, a global Christian charity that advocates for Christians persecuted for their faith, told Fox News Digital, "The crisis facing large areas of sub-Saharan Africa is hard to overstate. It is potentially existential for the future peace and stability of several nations in the region, not least Nigeria.

"Around 150,000 people have been killed in Jihadist violence over the last 10 years. Over 16 million Christians have been driven from their homes and their land across the region."

Nigeria is considered one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a Christian. Recent Open Doors research shows that more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than the rest of the world combined.

The White House previously confirmed it is working closely with the State Department to find ways to stop the killing and support stability in the region.

Slovenia’s government has declared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is persona non grata in the country, citing the genocidal war he has waged on Palestine’s Gaza.

An EU member, Slovenia recognised the State of Palestine in 2024 and imposed an arms embargo on Israel in August. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Spain has announced it will send a naval “action ship” from Cartagena to the eastern Mediterranean to defend the Global Sumud Flotilla on its mission to break Israel’s illegal siege of Gaza.

The decision follows a night of Israeli drone attacks—14 strikes in total—that targeted humanitarian boats and left several vessels damaged.

Defense Minister Margarita Robles said Spain has both a legal and moral duty to act, stressing that unarmed humanitarian workers cannot be abandoned to repeated assaults in international waters.

Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, one of Europe’s clearest voices condemning Israel’s genocide in Gaza, has now taken a bold step by directly committing Spanish military protection to those risking their lives to deliver aid.

Italy earlier deployed a Navy frigate under the same justification, also calling the protection of humanitarian workers a legal obligation. With both Rome and Madrid now standing openly against Israel’s war crimes at sea, pressure is building on other European governments to move from words to action in defense of Palestinian life and dignity.

Italy's Defence Minister Guido Crosetto sent a navy frigate to assist a Gaza-bound flotilla on Wednesday, after organisers said several of their boats had been targeted by multiple drones off Greece.

"To ensure assistance to the Italian citizens on the 'Flotilla'... I spoke with the Prime Minister and authorised the immediate intervention of the Italian Navy's multi-purpose frigate Fasan, which was sailing north of Crete as part of Operation Safe Sea.

"The vessel is already en route to the area for possible rescue operations", he said.

Crosetto expressed "the strongest condemnation" of the "attack" on the flotilla using "drones by currently unidentified perpetrators".

At the same time, Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said he had asked Israel to ensure the safety of "Italian citizens, along with members of parliament and MEPs" among the pro-Palestinian activists.

The ministry had already informed Israel that "any operation entrusted to Israeli forces must be conducted in compliance with international law and the principle of absolute caution," the ministry said in a statement.

‘Absolute protection’

"Minister Tajani has asked the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv to gather information and to reiterate its previous request to the Israeli government to guarantee the absolute protection of the personnel on board," it added.

The remains of Deborah Okwori, the slain interior designer from Benue State, have been laid to rest.

Her body which arrived from Lagos on Wednesday morning was interred in her ancestral home, Ugaga Ohuhu, Oju Local Government Area of Benue State.

Her aged mother, Mrs. Okwori, wept uncontrollably as she watched her daughter’s burial. In a final message delivered in the Igede language, she urged Deborah to fight for justice and never allow her killer to find peace

Deborah was brutally murdered in Lagos by her former lover, Lintex Ogale, two years after she ended their relationship. She was reportedly attacked and hacked to death in her apartment before help could reach her.
