Foreign AffairsRe: What Exactly Is The Cause Of The War In DR Congo? by God1000(m):
flyinnizam:
Someone should please educate what is the main cause of the war. We know Russia Ukraine cause, Israel Hamas war but this one is confusing even after using Google...surely the likes of God1000 and Botragelad will help
It's a complicated story, but here's is a brief history of this conflict, The origin of the current fighting can partly be traced back to the genocide in Rwanda in 1994.

Tutsi is one of Rwandan subtribe living in Eastern DRC since the colonial period. They own properties such as land , houses , farms etc but they've complained of marginalization from the government of congo, accusing DRC of treating them as non- residents or aliens.

The eastern Congo where Tutsi occupies is well endowed with natural resources such as Diamond, cobalt and Gold

Technically Kagame benefits from the minerals through his tribe the Tutsi living in Eastern Congo, the reason for his involvement in the civil war happening in Goma and North Kivu.

We also have other local and international actors who are fighting for their own interest in DRC

Both the M23 rebels backed by Rwanda and Rwandan soldiers are fighting Congolese government in eastern DRC

Similar to what happened in eastern Ukraine when Russia invaded and took crimea in 2014, Putin felt the ethnic Russians living in eastern Ukraine were being persecuted by the government of Ukraine

But I don't support what Paul kagame is doing, he's destabilizing that region

Paul kagame is from Tutsi tribe

I've been trying to understand this renewed congo crisis, the south Africa connection. What's it about? Google isn't helping here.
south Africa is part of the regional coalition fighting in support of DRC, they are more of peacekeeping force but 13 south African soldiers were killed some days ago in eastern DRC by M23 rebels backed by Rwanda

Apart from M23 rebels, Around 4000 Rwandan soldiers are believed to be fighting in support of M23 rebels, south African president accused Rwanda of killing 13 of its soldiers during the capturing of Goma which has led to escalation between Rwanda and south Africa

Goma is the capital and largest city of the North Kivu Province in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The current president of Rwanda is a Tutsi, a tribe in Rwanda whose reminants are located in eastern DRC, the Tutsi in DRC have long complained of marginalization from the Congolese government

Eastern DRC is Rich in solid minerals, so you have various local and international actors fighting for their own interest

I’m not gonna stoop low to your level by throwing around slurs at you just because you’re Black, I’m not about disrespecting an entire race over what you’re doing. But hey, keep doing you.

Say whatever you want about me, I meant what I said. Quit bringing up Netanyahu and worry about fixing your own mess. Terrorists and their terror loving families are gonna pay the price, one way or another.
I don’t care how woke you get or how much you cry about it. It is what it is.

Foreign AffairsDR Congo: Over 700 Killed In Just Five Days Of Fighting - UN by God1000(op): 7:49am On Feb 01, 2025
More than 700 people have been killed and 2,800 injured in just five days since fighting escalated in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) between January 26-30, UN Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters Friday.

The WHO (World Health Organization) and its partners conducted an assessment with the government between the 26th and yesterday and report that 700 people have been killed and 2,800 people injured,” Dujarric said, noting that these totals are expected to rise.

“Humanitarian organizations in Goma continue to assess the impact of the crisis including the widespread looting of warehouses and the offices of aid organizations,” he added.

Goma, the largest city in eastern DR Congo’s North Kivu province, fell under the control of the AFC/M23 rebel coalition on Monday, the rebels told CNN. This was the latest in a string of territorial acquisitions by the group in recent weeks. The Congolese government, which accuses Rwanda of backing M23, has not confirmed the rebels’ takeover in Goma but acknowledged the city was under siege.

On Wednesday DRC President Felix Tshisekedi vowed “a vigorous and coordinated response” against the rebel alliance that has besieged swathes of the nation’s mineral-rich east and forced hundreds of local troops to surrender.

Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix told reporters Friday that “the situation remains tense” in Goma with “occasional shooting” but “overall calm is gradually restored.”

He also warned that the rebel groups are about 60 kilometers north of another major city, Bakavu, and “seem to be moving quite fast.”

Experts have repeatedly warned that the chaos of the conflict would leave civilians in Goma with shortages of basic necessities and at the risk of the spread of disease.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) found on Friday that access to safe drinking water in Goma has been cut off, “forcing people to use untreated water from Lake Kivu with all the risk that entails,” Dujarric said.

He added, “Without urgent action OCHA cautions the risk of water born disease outbreaks will just continue to increase.

Paul kagame should refrain from such utterances and stop destabilizing DRC, he's making mouth because he enjoys western support, he will be up against the regional coalition and possibly AU

But what is Felix Tshisekedi of DRC doing to address this problem, he's a weak president, I will never tolerate such thing as president.

This is a problem for south Africa, they can't pull out now because of shame
Foreign AffairsRwanda Ready For Confrontation With South Africa - Kagame by God1000(op): 1:52pm On Jan 30, 2025
Rwandan President Paul Kagame says Rwanda is prepared for a confrontation with South Africa if necessary.

This follows South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s claim that M23 rebels and Rwanda’s defence force were responsible for the deaths of 13 South African soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Kagame says Ramaphosa had not warned Rwanda about its military activities in the DRC but instead requested logistical support while acknowledging South Africa’s efforts for peace.

Kagame asserted that South Africa is not in a position to act as a peacemaker or mediator and warned that if South Africa seeks confrontation, Rwanda will respond accordingly.
