Politics / Re: Excerpts Of Major Nzeogwu’s Coup Speech by GodMode: 1:31pm On Jan 15, 2016
rigarmortis:

brother, read history well, the major factor that caused the war was when thousands of people were killed in the north for reasons they don't know anything about, they didn't demand for their own country until they felt they were unsafe in the old one.

picture this, someone, a military officer, from kogi whose name is bayo, kills a prince whose names is abu, now this led to a mass roit which was deliberately left unchecked where thousands of people who don't even know bayo gets killed with impunity, just because their name doesn't sound like abu.

they go home and demand they want to be on their own, that's the simplest cause of the war.

even murtala demanded that the north secede, if not for gowon who told him to calm down, after the first wave of killings, ojukwu called for the takeover of power by the most senior officer, I think his name was bamidele, the guy refused, another senior offcer from the west couldn't control soldiers from the north beneath him, who took orders from a captain of northern origin.

the next most senior was a naval guy from the west too, but murtala and co insisted that they must have the power otherwise they would secede, eventually the two most senior officers from the west relinquished their power and gowon became president , ojukwu however refused to recognise his power, plus as military governor of the east, his people, smarting from the brutal and senseless killings insisted that they wanted their own country.

the rest is history

consider the above before you apportion blames

It was foreigners that told murtala not to secede...

The entire Yoruba tribe should be grateful, they have a long history of tribalism and subsequent tribal wars.

Yorubas the most tribalistic Nigerians should say no to tribalism and tribal wars.

The war was against northerners not intra-tribal..

Can't you see the foreigners there It already generates revenues..... SW economy is already diversified..... FG allocation is just bonus tongue tongue

There are many oil companies in lagos.... some of them have polluted the ocean and farmlands... Dangote's refinery may cause more damage...

Are we the most sophisticated in the world? Why are Greeks, Italians and general western world protect their people's interests before others?

I think it's going to take comfortable and confident youths who can't be bought over to rescue our land.

Ordinary OPC collected money and started vandalizing parts of Lagos... not just to youths, If the leaders mess things up then the youths will suffer..

Leaders like Ironsi and ojukwu (To me, they are the two igbo men that ruined the SE and SS and made Nigeria's current situation possible) is important...

Ironsi did the first coup in Nigeria and abolished regionalism because the north and SW were economically better than the SE. So after his coup he made every region contribute to the Center(federal government).. Ironsi ruled for 6 months before he was overthrown but he had already done the damage..

then

Ojukwu noticed this same thing and they were also killing christians in the north who were mostly igbos... So he motivated( he only gave out orders, he didn't really fight in the war) the igbos to fight against the north and this led to the civil in 1967 which they lost and also lost the natural resources in their region...

2 years after the civil war 1972 there was oil boom and since northerners were in power and ironsi had already made all regions contribute to the federal government, all the northern leaders had to do was assign oil blocks to each other....

if ironsi and ojukwu were patient the SS and SE would be so f**king rich by now and we wouldn't know who Otedola and indimi are...
but the SE could have fought the SS because of the oil..

Ok. If you say so. Obviously i can't convince you otherwise even though the reality on ground proves my argument. I am a prime example. I am not Yoruba. I speak two main Nigerian languages other than my own. I earn extra income and travel extensively strictly because i speak those two languages. If i stuck to my tribe would i have the opportunities i have now? People need to open their minds to new possibilities.

You had the opportunity to live among people of those tribes... that's how you learnt it... You either spent time in the north or grew up in a part of lagos that had mostly Yorubas and northerners neighbors... You attended schools in SW where your friends spoke Yoruba and you were able to learn from them that's why you have preference, you're a fast learner and there are many others like you who didn't have the opportunity you had..

you probably graduated in the 90's or early 2000's...

The way you reason is terrifying to say the least. Diversity is an advantage not an impediment. America, france, germany would not be great without it. When you bring people of different minds together you have a diverse way of thinking and solving issues. That fact that the black race does not understand this concept is no one's fault but yours. You think the Visa lottery America does is for nothing? Albert Einstein is a prime example of the advantage of diversity. Without him America would not be a super power.

Only 2% of China population are foreigners and see how developed they are.... Don't ever mention those three countries, they were built by foreigners and maintained properly by laws that protect their interest...

Diversity is only an advantage when it is seriously monitored...

I did not really get your argument but the Nigerian federation is a fake one and its faulty ,A real federation with separate laws and policies can also help you has a Yoruba man in your province ,region etc.Example is security ,the police man that will guard your area will probably speak and understand you and know all the criminals.

You said Nigeria needs an official language and if you read and understood that comment you'll have read the part that said "It's a pity that the colonial masters formed Nigeria (African countries) the way they did, grouping major tribes(people with different identities) together."

The European countries that were multilingual have since dis-integrated and are more peaceful....

If English wasn't Nigeria's official language a South Easterner/Southerner, northerner and foreigners would have to learn how to speak Yoruba fluently before they can school or work in the SW and Yorubas too would need to learn their languages if they want to move out of SW...

The recent sacking of some Virgin Nigeria staffs defends my argument.... they were sacked because Nigerians speak English and since English is British why not just bring British staff.... they didn't sack india and others because of the language barrier...

Your name is online moniker is bidemi and you're denying your heritage... This is I and Wyttcat are talking about...

Yes, a new party or an organization that will keep them on their toes.

Its not self-hate.. They're always trying to form "sophisticated" and "liberal"..

Now I know why what happened in kwara happened, most Yoruba leaders are just took dumb!

Lagos is being labeled as NO MAN'S LAND without state of residence, what will now happen with it?

Kwara is still 90% yoruba... But northerners have used the "north-central tag" to claim political appointments when in reality Kwara is a SW state not "north central" as we are made to believe.

well the integration program that i know about use to be NYSC and Nigerians are more divided than before and you can divide Nigerians in 5mins if you want to when you meet with them .How many Nigerian languages do you speak?Do you have friends from all over Nigeria.some Nigerians cannot marry other Nigerians because of cultural beliefs. We need an official language that will include the major languages spoken in Nigeria apart from English. It will be compulsory for you to speak ,read with the language of your country. The CRK and IRK divides students from secondary school.

This is fundamentally wrong. If you want to kick against tribalism (if at all it's possible), you start from the basis. I'm not necessarily being tribal, but I'm a Yoruba first, before I'm a Nigerian. That's fact, and no one can take that identity away from me. It's a pity that the colonial masters formed Nigeria (African countries) the way they did, grouping major tribes(people with different identities) together. Though we've got to live with that. This is not so in most western countries. That's why we hardly here of tribal unrest among them. If western countries were formed like we have in Spain and such, they will also be singing the same song we sing in Africa. Left to me tribalism can't be ended, same with racism, this act will only create an avenue where tornado meets with volcano.

No one goes to the SE.

No one can talk about state of residence in the face of Daggers up north

We already know what obtains in SS.

Yoruba people will regret this!

Can one imagine America going to the meeting of the Americas and declare open border to everyone?

MAY GOD ALMIGHTY PUT THE LOVE OF YORUBALAND FIRST AND FOREMOST IN THE HEART OF YORUBA LEADERS! Can someone please say a BIG AMEN to this!

Modakeke bitter war with the Ife is due to the same problem . Yoruba people will never understand that their tribalism is the cause of Naija problem . They want another man's resources to develop their land for themselves . Fools can't even see that they can be Yoruba in England USA or even in China and still be citizens of those places . They are too daft to understand that residency status does not remove their Yoruba ID .

Nigeria's problem started with two igbo men: Ironsi and ojukwu

It is mediocrity to say that 'we have to leave with that'. Leave with a hurriedly arranged and motive based system of coexistence?

It took america, Lincoln and co, almost a decade to package a good enough constititution such that the great multiplicity of ethnicity in America makes no difference, even till tomorrow

Now that we are better civilized why not everyone sit and draft a near perfect referandum to help us stay together.

The traffic situation, agberos, bad roads and now traffic robbers are the undoing of Lagos tourism. Lagos has beautiful and modern places of attraction but for the highlighted issues, they are not being fully utilised. I wish things were different sad .

All those places shown by the OP don't have bad roads.... the standard of living on the island is EXTREMELY DIFFERENT from the mainland and the rest of Nigeria as a whole.
