carefreewannabe: Nigeria's government cannot be blamed enough so I disagree with you.
There are countries in which prostitution is not the result of desperation.
I am not and that makes me even more compassionate to the situation people face in this country.
Not everyone considers prostitution wrong. You do, probably for religious reasons but you is not everyone.
I, for my part, am thankful that some women choose this path, if not because they are forced to due to life circumstances, because I believe that without prosti*tues ra*pe would take place more often. Consequently, I am grateful, some ladies do it.
Just because she doesn't do it because of poverty, doesn't mean others don't.
I don't understand. carefreewannabe: How do you know that majority of them are in it for different reasons than poverty in a poverty-stricken country without any social security system people can fall on?
Do you know majority of them? Are there any statistics?
You cannot compare prostitution to robbery. Prostitutes help people and at worst harm themselves. Robbers hurt others to help themselves.
What other alternative has a lady got in Nigeria if she cannot find a job and has to feed her illiterate mother and her younger siblings? Rubbish... |

ChristyG: says who?the yoruba slaves that were sold to brazil took it there, when there was nothing like nigeria There were never "yoruba slaves" The name "yoruba" was made in the 19th century by the british because there was no general name for them i.e some factions were called Awori Yoruba(I think the ones in lagos, togo and benin republic), there was ijebu yoruba and so on... They were called Lucumi... If you doubt me just ask google. |

edwife: And i ask where?in Nigeria or where?
In the UK,NHS is free A government should be able to make basic health care free for his people as long as the people pay their taxes. You can only pay with insurance if you make more in a year, but for any citizen health care is free.
I live in one and i know what i am talking about. As long as the victim has an NHS number. |
Car Talk › Re: Victim Of 3rd Mainland Bridge Accident Wakes From Coma,Identifies Self(Pictured) by GodMode: 9:06pm On Feb 13, 2015 |
edwife: wrong why?what makes it wrong?so free health service is now wrong? Treatment is free but the victim has to pay either through insurance or other means. |
Car Talk › Re: Victim Of 3rd Mainland Bridge Accident Wakes From Coma,Identifies Self(Pictured) by GodMode: 9:01pm On Feb 13, 2015 |
edwife: YES Which is wrong... The victim will be treated but not released even if the victim is released it'll be on record that the victim is owing. |

Keegan: This is how they do it in developed countries. We too can do it, let's come together and make it real. God bless the management of this hospital. you obviously haven't heard of NHIS( National Health Insurance Scheme) which has been active for years. |

edwife: Is he suffering from amnesia that he cannot give them his relatives details or he just doesn't want to because of the cost?
This is the problem with Nigeria, whereby in other country the health system is free and here we have to pay through our nose just to be alive. Nothing is free... |

customized13: my point too, igbos should work on do dominating Nigeria, and I think the economy of Nigeria is already in the hands of ndigbo. Which economy When there are lebanese, indians and chinese there... Leave the tribes alone... If the indians and chinese are keeping quiet and living rich and peacefully don't call hausas, igbos or yorubas... Those foreigners are more loaded than you think. |

Frankmishael: god punish you I am not religious... To me, there is no god and satan... So I can't be punished. To me, there are just humans who have the "free will" to choose whether to do good or evil. Life is what I decide it should be. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Rescuing Nigerian Children From Witchcraft Accusation by GodMode: 12:58pm On Feb 12, 2015 |
Frankmishael: just be fooling your self until witches kill u or member of your family then your eyes will clear and u will know they exist. fool like u bushdoc9919 Read the comment I quoted... If people like frankmishael are tracked down and prosecuted for spreading "false alarms" based on religious beliefs then people will desist from such. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Rescuing Nigerian Children From Witchcraft Accusation by GodMode: 12:54pm On Feb 12, 2015 |
bushdoc9919: There is a lot to be said for respecting elders.
But this article by the op is largely about elders who do not have the resources to discipline their children adequately...and who as a result of the bad behavior...rush for quick fix solutions offered by quick fix Christians.
(One thing about Christianity....it is not a religion of quick fixes.). One thing about life... There are no quick fixes. The elders lack common sense because of religion, nollywood, government e.t.c. If the government prosecutes elders/people that refer to youngsters as wizards and witches then people would think thrice before labelling someone as such. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Rescuing Nigerian Children From Witchcraft Accusation by GodMode: 12:36pm On Feb 12, 2015 |
bushdoc9919: Yes...but humans do not need to be religious to do the wrong things.
The other day...an elderly man shot dead a teenager for playing loud music. No religion involved.(Man is now in jail). Religion is involved... Religion says respect your elders and if dis-respected discipline the dis-obedient youngster.. WHILE common sense says tell the youngster to reduce and if dis-respected call the police or change your location or tolerate the noise for the time being.. People die over stupid things... |
Christianity Etc › Re: Rescuing Nigerian Children From Witchcraft Accusation by GodMode: 12:21pm On Feb 12, 2015 |
bushdoc9919: I am aware of the history of witch burnings....the book ''For the Glory of God'' by Stark...gives a good breakdown of the history of the ''witch burning phenonenom''.
As a Christian myself....I am aware of the less than savoury aspects of Christian history.
Still....Catholics were more likely to burn heretics than witches. We are humans not religious bigots... |

softysparky: My dear I stay in lagos too an I have seen things for myself. As of November last year, I stayed in traffic more than 3hrs just from Cele to Airport road that normally takes less than 15 minutes just because of potholes at Ilasa. People don't have any choice than to look for bike. In fact just go to Alaba international mkt and you will cry at the poor state of roads there.
People queue to board BRT not just because the fare but because once it's filled up, you will get to your destination without delay.
If you read my post very well you will notice I'm not against banning of Okada but at least they make good provision of roads and other means of transportation. the people should protest to state and federal govts. Okada has ended careers, lives e.t.c. Nigeria won't improve if people keep quiet. At least, people can snap pictures of the bad roads and send it to blogs and the media... |
