CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by GodMode: 12:38pm On Jul 22, 2014
iwonbaoko: Fact is they learnt more about reading and writing in America and came to Nigeria for the practical side of things.Clearly there is a huge advantage for Nigerians if they can take time to learn how to read and write too that is my point. THEY WERE NOT FLUENT BEFORE THEY CAME and even now one can hardly say they are fluent but they have done well
It seems u haven't studied a language at a university before or u don't have friends that have studied languages in university.

If someone studies a language like French in Nigeria, during your 3rd year in school, u'll spend a session or some months in a French speaking country (even International Relations students do this).

SO I CAN CONFIDENTLY TELL YOU THEY COULD SPEAK IT FLUENTLY BEFORE COMING TO NAIJA.

From the level of knowledge u have shown from your comments... I guess u're still a fresh undergraduate or u haven't entered uni yet.
CultureRe: Any Regret Not Knowing How To Speak Your Dialect? by GodMode: 12:16pm On Jul 22, 2014
iwonbaoko: No I cannot decode sorry. What evidence do you have that they had already learnt it fluently before coming to Nigeria please show it.
The purpose of posting the video is to show others that they are in an even better position especially those who claim to "understand but cannot speak" if they follow a similar programme. i.e learn how to read it and then "total immersion" That is the reason for posting and not to indulge in meaningless rumination
because of what u said, I decided to watch titilayo's video... In the video, she said she learned yoruba for 3 years in U.S. before coming to Nigeria.. And she spent over 6 months in Nigeria.

I am watching the video right now cos of u.

iwonbaoko: I do not know why there is a need to manufacture a meaningless argument. What is YOUR point because honestly I cannot see any. [b]Do you have videos before they came to Nigeria[b]
They started learning in America and came to UI for further studies and also were embedded in a Yoruba family home for further training . Are you disputing those facts?
It Seems u can't decode english well... No I do not dispute those facts. They had already learnt it fluently in America before coming to Nigeria and NO I am not trying to argue.

benbuks: could understand & speak to some substantial extend , though not much . kinda regret sha , but all the same am not ashamed ( at least no be food ..lol.)'

But come to think of it , if you observe most developed/ technologically advanced countries today e.g China , Japan, Germany ,America , Dubai e.t.c . they kinda have unified /unique languages , kids are taught math/sciences & other subjects in their own mother language right from tender hood , no wonder they understands the concepts well enough as to be creative & innovative in their researches & explorations . unlike we Africans (esp. 9ja ) where we have tons on languages & ethnic believes disagreeing with others ,you find tribalism , sentiments & resentment , ( tell me how the country will progress ) .

Now just image if kids are taught say physics , math, chemistry biology e.t.c in their best- understood (mother ) tongue /language (with the teacher being an expert in both the said language & the subject /course he/she teaches ) . don't you think that will go a long way in revolutionizing our education sector & even the country's state .? I don't have to cram all the formulae & theories cause i grasp the reality of what the teacher /lecturer is talking about ( being in my own language , best understood ) . but in a case where we have to understand & master the so called official language ; "ENGLISH" , it phonics & vocabularies to be able to absorb /decode the ideas the teachers/lectures are yarning about , which till date is our ever enigma making it tough for us to substantially improve educational performances & the nation's development .

so we need a unique /unified language in Nigeria or better still subjects/courses should be taught in a best-understood mother tongue which i believe will solve many problems ..

than you.

1love..

Gracia.

Nigeria needs to dis-integrate to move forward or each region should let schools teach in their dialect except for some universities.

There was no Nigeria for over 2000 years and yet I'm sure there were inter-tribal marriages during those days...

iwonbaoko: What is "yankee" ?
They learnt both in Nigeria and America. They spent several months at University of Ibadan and also in an "immersion " programme meaning they lived with a Yoruba family that only spoke Yoruba to them and also exposed them to cultura aspects. They also had some exposure to broadcasting with a radio station in Ibadan
No.. I have their videos... They learnt it for 2 years in America (not really sure I'll have to watch it again).. Before going to Ibadan. What I mean is they were already fluent in Yoruba before their first visit to Nigeria.

iwonbaoko: Don't blame anyone if you make an effort ( in particular spend some money) you will be surprised what you can achieve in the next 2 years.
This is a foreigner who came to Nigeria to learn Yoruba

They learnt it in yankee...

ProgrammingRe: Are Programmers Born Or Made? by GodMode:
dhtml: I took that into calculation as well. I know people that have great passion for programming, went through hell to learn programming, but their brain is not just for it. And remember also that programming is a lot like mathematics, and we do know that mathematics is easier for some people and very tough and impossible for others. Mastering programming is tough - filled with frustration and lots of things, some people simple cant cope with the stress and run away when they start facing such challenges.
lordZOUGA: you can look at it this way: Some people might have never been programmers if they hadn't decided that programming is something they want to do everyday. I mean, they could also be good at mechanical engineering or music or electrical engineering.
Keep in my mind that by programming, I mean the ability to solve a problem using a computer by supplying to it a set of instructions.

Like I said, programmers are made. a lot of people have the ability but whether they want to do it or not is the issue.
You two are wrong... Programming involves critical thinking abilities and just some maths...

The problem with learning programming or any other thing is TIME.

In advance countries, most of them start learning how to code at a young age (mostly before age 15), at that age they are just learning for the fun of it, nothing else is on their mind.

In developing/underdeveloped countries, people most times don't have computers at a young age so they don't really about coding. The ones that have computers don't really know about coding. Mostly, they end up playing sports for fun or watching entertainment during their free time (In my opinion, 90% of Nigerian youths and students are guilty of this), cos they already see school as a means to be successful not learning something as technical as coding.

The important thing about coding is, knowing the syntax, in-built functions and some other things off hand, which is usually not an easy thing to learn without practice especially in the first year of learning to code.

That's why google (having internet access) is important.. Even pro coders use google... But what surprises me most times are people like Bucky and others that do video tutorials...
They explain as if they're the ones that created the language... I have this belief that they rehearse before they start but that would mean I'm jealous (typical judgemental Nigerian)... those guys are very good and they are below 30. If those freelancers are that good, I don't want to imagine the type of coders that work for google, yahoo, apple, activision, rockstar games, ubisoft e.t.c

I'll only give myself headache...

In summary,
I regret not knowing about coding at primary school level......

Technical skills.

BadBoy25: this might sound like blasphemy , I just have my own personal belief . I think God is ALL. That is my own personal conclusion i came up with . I dont want to say that he is both The good and evil. it's too complicated . What I am trying to say is that God is simply ALL.
the good and evil are complimentary . the light and darkness are complimentary. God is All.
I've also thought about that... But its humans that have that evil... Just that the evil is displayed on the wrong people(the innocent).

Satan and his "like minds" going against God is display of emotions.

Angels killing first born sons is display of emotions.

Angels that destroyed sodom is display of emotions.

There is no God, no angels...
Christianity EtcRe: The Mightiness Of God’s Name by GodMode: 9:20am On Jul 20, 2014
BadBoy25: yes thats true . there are invisible angels and beings watching us all the time ,they probably shake their head at the crazy things we do ,but they also understand that it's human nature . God is watching us all all the time ,we think we are actually alone . if we really were fully aware of God's presence and angels watching over all of our activities ,I Think humans would be more Cautious or even fearful.
God left us alone in the world to experience what it feels like without him, fear, suffering, hopelessness, anger, jealousy uncertainty etc. he wants us to make mistakes and learn .
U're wrong.

Angels too have emotions... Afterall Lucifer went against God.

Interval: i pray you dont encounter problems in life before you recognise that there is God i.e almighty Jehovah
I used to believe in God until I encountered problems at an early age life.

I realised that what the Creator wants is for humans to use their brains and work hard and help one another instead of believing in a God.

The problems I have encountered are what made me overcome religion, hate, anger, self-center lifestyle and many more.

The Creator made me believe I am also a creator like "it".

"It" made me to choose between

1) Praying and been emotional towards a God I can't see.

And

2) Been a god(a creator) that I can see and controlling my emotions so that I don't affect the people around me negatively or violently.

I chose been a creator...
