PoliticsVote For Ambode Or Perish Inside The Lagoon, Oba Akiolu Tells Igbos by godsboy4eva(op): 6:34am On Apr 06, 2015
Igbos living in Lagos were told on Sunday to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else they will die in the lagoon.

A visibly angry Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, in an unconcealed threat, stated that he was not ready to beg the Igbos, but if they repeated what they did on March 28 when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, then they should be ready for the consequences.

The governorship elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, and it is believed that Igbo residents in Lagos will vote for the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje, just like they did during the presidential and National Assembly elections that led to the victory of PDP candidates of Igbo origin and from Delta State in three federal constituencies in Lagos.

The victory of the non-indigenes of Lagos, THISDAY gathered, has not gone down well with the Lagos chapter of the APC.

Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, according to an online news medium, Freedom Online, the first class monarch, who failed to recognise the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you goes against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me.

“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him everyday. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future.

“On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.

“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi (Agbaje) is my blood relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here.

“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”

The monarch said anybody against Ambode did not wish the state well, adding, “I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years.

“He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change.

“From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultations with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time,” he said.

In a veiled reference to one of Jonathan’s predecessors, Akiolu stated that the crisis Nigeria was facing was not caused by the Jonathan administration but by another person he refused to name.

Continuing with his tirade, he said: “If not for the appeal from Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) and my highly respected maternal father, the Awujale of Ijebu-Ode, all what is happening today is not the cause of the present government. The man who caused everything knows himself.”

In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised Akiolu that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode.

“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbos. It is not only the Igbos that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win.

“Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that we are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election,” he said.

abinoam: Going by the degree of success this particular handle has earned my friends in the past, I feel I could get lucky too. I am a Yoruba girl that crossed the threshold of 20s last year and thus been getting the threat of eviction notice from my folks. I have never been single in all my adult life but just haven’t found my IDEAL man. I am slightly above 5:6ft, dark, slim, well-schooled and presently working. Nobody has ever referred to me as being bland rather I get the opposite.

I am presently looking for a Man older than I am with at least one and most seven years( age inferred earlier) He should be taller than me, dark, Godly, Yoruba, well-schooled, huge sense of humour, believe in family, seccy, financially responsible , not averse to exercise and most of all with a beautiful mind. I just want someone with whom I would be as alike as two peas. Anyone? ...thanks.

PoliticsSouth-south, Southeast, Middle-belt Should Find A Political Platform Now by godsboy4eva(op): 9:43am On Jul 26, 2013
For those who have political eyes, the Amaechi drama is a gong. Thousands of southerners and middle-beltans have been murdered in the north, but at no time did the governors see the necessity to pay solidarity visits to their compatriots for their dead. That would have been soothing, provide a signal to the murderers that they’re alone and Nigeria against them. Juxtapose this with the swiftness with which they dashed to Port-Harcourt to tell Amaechi, ‘we’re with you’. Far from the solidarity display, the substantive message is: ‘Amaechi, you’re our man in the south’. As though that wasn’t enough, the western governors followed suit. Theirs was more clever. They made it look like an advisory note: ‘Amaechi, go, visit Jonathan’. Why not? They know Nigerians are asking to know the camp of the head-breaking lawmaker; they know that the scenario of Amaechi being in the PDP but playing their card is a sweet-bitter one that is palatable now they’re the beneficiaries but distasteful when in future the same scenario plays against them. The total picture is: from the north, from the west, PDP is under attack and by implication the political space of Jonathan gradually shrinking. Not done, they’ve begun telling their supporters to quit the PDP en masse and join the ANPP en route the APC. What this translates to is, there should be a support party with geographical root, unlike the PDP which is everywhere but without pivot. The ACN is west, the CPC and ANPP are north; they have defined interests which they’re carrying to the common trough, APC; when the time comes to negotiate the coming Nigeria, they’ll flow out from their concrete bases, not fantasies. Their strategy now is: pursue a national look by knocking on doors, whoever opens, enter. Amaechi has opened and they want to enter. Invariably then, that solidarity visit in flesh is precisely a political conquest visit in bone.

Those who pelted the governors with stones straightaway qualify as the politically disabled. A silly action that depicts helplessness. Reason: they have no platform and not thinking beyond the PDP. Besides, their own person is the gateman on the political harmsway.

If they truly want Jonathan, this is the time to go beyond the frontier. South-south/Southeast governors have met, their traditional institutions/wives have met, but all these mean nothing without a platform to give their desire teeth. The Middle-belt is used by the north as political pawns and they’ve said, ‘never again’, but where’s their platform? None. Naturally then, the south, the east and middle-belt have begun experiencing an emerging political bond. The next natural step is to establish it. Still holding on solely to the PDP is to make themselves vulnerable and a political grab-area which, like the Niger-Delta, exploiters take the grain and leave the chaff to the indigenes. They’ll be used to complete numbers, make exploitation have a democratic face and their interest thrown out at countdown.

What’s their gain having a common platform? The disgruntled elements in the PDP and others will have a new shelter closer to their identity. They can package their interest without waiting for approval from anybody. They have a negotiating platform in case the future Nigeria comes to that. The extent to which renegades can distort the collective interest will be reduced because of increased conformity; this would drastically emasculate political whoredom as it presently is. Jonathan would have a formidable fallback in addition to the provision of the PDP. There would be national political balance: the north have their platform; the west too; the south-south, southeast and middle-belt also. Christians in the north will have a political bench which they currently lack and which makes them look like orphans. The heterogeneity of the block would produce fairness and the tripod structure of Nigeria would still remain but redefined.

They can go about it through registering a brand new party. But there are always unseemly controversies associated with that; besides, the time isn’t quite there. To avoid this, they can review the registered political parties to see which is the most appropriate to adopt after a fair negotiation. There is this newly registered party called the United People’s Party (UPP) which is, as it were, still virgin. Such platforms could present amicable negotiating terms conducted fairly and not spiting the founders – an old, bad practice that never pays. Its high net worth is guaranteed and can translate into a robust take-off.

Now that Northern Elders have bluntly made the presidency the north’s prerogative, saying power won’t return to the south again: they give it when they want and take it when they want; it’s also time to demonstrate that hard-nosed arrogance is a dead-end. Such powers are the exclusive preserve of the DIVINE, not Northern Elders’. Need I say more?

Published on May 3, 2013 by · 2 Comments
The Ondo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Akure, the state capital, Friday dismissed the petitions filed by the governorship candidate of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Olusola Oke, over the 20 October, 2012 governorship election in the state.

The two candidates and their parties alleged in their petitions that the election which Mimiko won, was marred by irregularities and alleged illegal inclusion of 164,742 voters in the register.

Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, Ondo State
Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, Ondo State

Delivering the judgement, Justice Andovar Kaka’an-led three-man tribunal dismissed all the petitions of the two candidates and their parties, insisting that the witnesses failed to prove their case beyond all reasonable doubts.

On the voter register, the tribunal nullified the expert report on the alleged illegal inclusion of 164,742 voters in the register.

The tribunal averred that the issue of voter register was a purely pre-election matter over which it has no jurisdiction.

Their petitions were subsequently dismissed for lack of merit. It was not clear at press time if the ACN, PDP and the candidates will appeal the verdict.

Nice one! While this is commendable, I wouldn't want us to forget that majority of these projects are being financed through money borrowed from banks. It's a fact today that the South West states are some of the most indebted states in the federation. Whoever that will succeed the current SW governors in office may have a lot of debt to settle.
Meanwhile, I will like us to ask our leaders the following questions:
1. At what cost are theses project being executed?
2. Who are the contractors?
3. Were the contracts awarded through competitive biddings or just through the backdoors?
May God continue to bless the SW!
