That last sentence and question is so succinct. I hope he has a reasonable answer and not shift goal post in his usual manner. Better than the "average Nigerian" my foot

It is possible. Although I do not use an interest bearing savings, what I use is the local piggy bank (kolo)

What I do is after the close of work, I set aside 1500-2000 that I put inside my ‘kolo’, I make it the first thing to do when I get home and I have been doing it consistently since January 4.

I used the piggybank app in December and set it to automatically debit my account of 3k at 11:59pm daily.

That app is a life saver, been using it for more than 3 years and it has done wonders for me

Personal savings in the U.S. The economy might be strong in the U.S., but nearly 70 percent of Americans have less than $1,000 stashed away, according to GOBankingRates' 2019 savings survey. The poll, released December 16, revealed 45 percent have nothing saved.Dec 18, 2019...

What makes you think an average working Nigerian can save for raining day ?

But at the sametime the ones that can save, lack discipline and focus .. But the truly educated and well expose hard working ones that bust their tails off ,cannot save due to the economic conditions .. This is my p.o.v

Lol, why do you at any chance you get try to demean Nigeria or Nigerians, and you embellish it with the phrase "the average Nigerian" you do it subtly, I have not been here for long but I have noticed it.

The US or whatever country you usually compare with Nigeria didn't just become what they are today, they had their challenges.

Nigeria may not be all you want now but it will be someday whether you believe it or not.

The funny thing is most guys I have seen talk about Nigeria being this and that are quick to run here to make money because they know Nigeria is a gold mine.

Now, I am not saying Nigeria have it all together, but She will get there, every country has their challenges, it just depends on where you are, at your challenges.

If it's not that you have high moral standard than the average Nigerian, it is that our insurance companies are shit or that the average Nigerian can't save for rainy days, who told you all this?

You can simply say what you want to say without having that air of being better at everything than the " average Nigerian" because you reside somewhere that is supposedly better than Nigeria.

I actually enjoy you when you give out your business experiences, the few times I have come across them, I learn alot from them.. Cheers

From the bolded, I don't think you've used any insurance company here. Maybe you listen to all the bad reviews people dish out , to form your opinion

Insurance companies in Nigeria have improved. AXA Mansard, Allianz, Leadway, Wapic are all good. We have seen people like slam.stan.lee change his side mirrors courtesy of his insurance. Even Gazzzz, on one of his rebuilding threads, had his insurance pay for the respraying of his car(Honda Accord)

Please don't listen to roadside gossips. You own a car of 1.5 million. It's wiser to use a 100k max or lesser to insure it incase of any damage, as little as a broken side mirror.

If you had insured that Elantra, the windshield and bonnets will be changed by the insurance. No arguements. Or if your driver was enlightened, he would have demanded for the third party cover of the person that caused the accident (that's if he wasn't at fault)

Insurance is very vital in this business. Sometimes, it may not be a driver's fault, but other road users. I saw an accident where a truck cleared almost five vehicles and damaged them all. Anybody with comprehensive insurance will just go and sleep.

Insure your cars sir. It's the wisest thing to do

What of cases of theft, insurance takes care of that, yeah?

Unnecessary panic/fear?
I'm not even sure you understood what I typed sef

Now, Uber drivers carry people from Point A to Point B. The moment there is a decline in the movement of people, it will take a toll on driver's earnings

From Monday, schools will probably be shut. This week, large church gatherings will be suspended. This is not to even talk about offices that have sent memos for some workers to work from home. Or do you think it's only bankers they carry on Uber?

I did not raise panic about the virus. I only said "If you know you won't make your rental payments because of the pandemic, give your partner his car until you feel the sphere is conducive"..

How is this panic, sir?

It is not panic at all, it's common sense

Also, that's what insurance is for though they might deny her claim because of the violation.

From what I read from from the person who put out the story, the issue was the land on which she has the facility and there is a case in court over the said land, so how do you go destroying things over a case that is in court, if not high handedness...

When i pick u up at home and drop u at ur office or vice versa i have no problem with u on transfer even if d alert didn't reflect on my app instantly. U can go, i will call u in an hour if i dont see it.
But when i pick u from say a beach or hotel to probably a shopping mall or a market. I must see alert. We all will be patient till it gets in or we go to an atm point.

Some day i picked up a rider from festac to ebutte meta, federal medical center. Then go back to drop d boy friend at ago palace. Fare was 3600.
Boyfriend said it was the babe that will transfer d money. Called babe and she said her battery was low she will send it later.
I just zoomed off. (i know her house, and office. No qualms)

She spoke so soft and looked responsible. I trusted her.
Called in d evening to tell her no alert yet, she said something came up....
Next morning another stroy, next evening another story. At a point she won't pick all my calls.
I sent her a simple message: Please pay my money to avoid my troubles.

She ignored.
3rd day a trip took me to ebutte metta early morning. At around resumption time,
I got there and waited for d yeye girl.

She got down from a tinted corolla, with a straight face, as if she had seen me but trying to pretend. I trailed behind her as she walked into d hospital, i dialed her number to be sure it was her... She somehow, stylishly silenced d phone.

I didn't want to stop her and harass her. I may be wrong, she may not be d person.

I walk to a staff nurse and asked where is d management office, that i wanted to lay a complaint about a staff.

They said SERVICOM department.
I downloaded a fresh true caller app, put in her number.... It showed Dr oyinye. A Doctor! Wow

Told SERVICOM d gist, gave them the name and number, in less than 5 minutes they fished her out. Same girl o.

Took her to one room and start questioning her, through the walls i was hearing stuff like: u cant be complaining low ba3 and poor network for 3 days....

Another staff was busy telling me to hav patient, it will be resolved soon.

They called me to d room she was... In her hand was cash.

They apologized, and equally said it could be network, but that doesn't mean they are supporting her ooo.
She apologized, wit a very drained, pale face.
I pitied her that moment. It was so embarrassing...
Handed me the cash, 4k.
I told her i have change in d car.

Funny girl followed me to d car park, apologized again, for any inconvenience she might have cause.
I actually talked less that day. I said no problem.

Take 500 change i dont have 400.
She said she didn't have 100 to balance too.
Ok you can keep it, i said.

She walked back like d ground should open and swallow her up.
I kind of felt bad for dragging her to this point. But well, she pushed me, trying to be smart.

Make una no vex for my long story... I get time small ni cheesy

Now, this is how you handle a case.. Bravo

Make we see shall, I doubt it wil work well from experience, but you never know till it starts. If I wanted I could have about 20 cars now on rental.. No matter how rentals are low , drivers still will not pay .,no matter how sweet the deal is for drivers, unfortunately only a hand few will do well

Why will drivers not pay though, is it that they don't make the money or they don't just want to pay..I want to understand

Lolz, dont believe everything you read online.

Someone said he started this uber journey and was able to buy 8 cars in two years. This feat is almost very impossible to achieve except by Grace or fraudulent act.

Now let me break it down.
If said person relied solely on driving on uber this is what u get :
We gat no idea if the 8 cars were bought as toks or fairly use but let me place a value of 1m on each car...

8 cars in 2 years, which means he maybe bought 4cars in a year.
1m X 4cars : 4m

To achieve 4 million naira driving solely on uber / taxify (maybe) in a year
This simply means :
4m ÷ 12months : 333,333 (meaning u should be making at least 333,333k monthly)
333,333 ÷ 4weeks : 83,333k weekly (this means u should be making 83k weekly)

To achieve 83k weekly, that means your gross should be about 150k weekly.

You are prone to certain issues that would pop its ugly head once in a while, these issues will take a chunk of the profit made.
issues like this can never be avoided : mechanical and electrical issues (shock, brake pad, tyres blowout, steering pump, compressor, ball joint, fuel pump, alternator, bad kickstarter), servicing... You have lastma, vio to reckon with once in a while. Bad riders, Bolt app malfunctioning cant be left out. Then unforeseen issues like accident, robbery etc.... remember, you also have responsibilities as well, i dont know if you are married or single but one thing is certain, you are responsible for yourself (feed yourself poorly, dont have enough rest/sleep and the resultant effect is a health breakdown and this will affect your earnings)

On this story, there are so many loopholes which makes it very difficult to believe. Dont be like those motivational speakers : my first salary was 5k and in 6 months I bought a house in banana island without stating how the money was made. If you can't state how it was made, then dont bother saying it as you could be passing a message in a wrong way.

On another note, it's really sad to know that people are juxtaposing Nigeria with countries that are miles ahead of us in almost everything (aside corruption).
Using U.S and England as a yardstick to support your argument is really not nice.
They have good healthcare, good roads, good basic amenities etc but what do we have here other than bad roads, epileptic power supply just to mention but a few...

My point here is, if you are blessed, do not use that opportunity to look down on anyone or talk with reckless abandon... In the game of chess, the lowest ranked officer (pawn) can still become a Queen (the most powerful piece). Life na turn by turn.
If you wanna encourage someone, then apply emotional intelligence to it...

You couldn't have said any better.. Thank you Jare!

Your rental is very cheap, my driver is remitting 40k weekly, uber is now charging 1k/km, 500 Naira/minute, while drivers go home with 100% bonus of their weekly earnings.

Before I forget, don't accept anyhow guarantor, consider angel lucifer, leviathan, etc, they rock
Then finally, go get hackney permit.
