Music/Radio / Country Music Star Kenny Rogers Dies by godspeed: 8:32am On Mar 21, 2020
Can't believe this is not here.

American country music legend Kenny Rogers has died aged 81.

A family representative said he "passed away peacefully at home from natural causes".

Rogers topped pop and country charts during the 1970s and 1980s, and won three Grammy awards.

Known for ballads including The Gambler, Lucille and Coward Of The County, his career spanned more than six decades.

He once summed up his popularity by explaining that he believed his ballads "say what every man wants to say and that every woman wants to hear".

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and, that same year, received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Country Music Association.

In their statement his family said he "left an indelible mark on the history of American music".

A keen businessman, Rogers also led several ventures over the years, mainly in property and the restaurant sector.

He was married five times and had five children.

Traveling long distances was extremely uncommon in those days unless you fall afoul of slave raiders and nowhere has it been suggested that Yorubas came from India.

But they definitely came from the middle East, probably from Arabia ( who are neighbors with India) at least this is one of the myths about oduduwa the progenitor of the yorubas

There are NO tigers in the wild in Africa. It's not just that it is not common. They don't exist. Same reason Yoruba don't have a name for Kangaroo is the same reason they won't have a name for a Tiger.

It's not that simple.

First, you have to look at the origin of the Yoruba language and how it has developed over the centuries.

No doubts, contact with foreigners either thru trade, slavery or colonialism would have had a large influence on the Yoruba language.( Much like the English language is heavily influenced by Latin and French) .

That the yorubas never saw tigers does not mean they never heard about it or didn't at least get a description.

Remember, one of the stories about oduduwa is that he came to Ife from Arabia haven fled the peninsula when Mohammad the prophet was ridding Arabia of idolaters, infact, oduduwa brought the IFA religion from Arabia.

No doubts, oduduwa arrival in Ile Ife would have had an effect on the local language as a lot of new words would have been introduced into the Yoruba lexicon.

So as regards' Ekun' , it could have been a borrowed word from oduduwa's language, or a coinage from the description of the animal as given to them by oduduwa.

Remember, Arabia is neighbors with India, so the tiger will not be strange to them.

BTW, amotekun means Leopard, cheetahs also not native to west Africa.

Oh...if so the Voc of most 250w panels is about 38v, thus 3 in series will exceed 100v, which is the max rating of your cc..some cc cant accept a lil above, some don't..so to play it safe, getting 2 more 250w panels and doing a 2s2p setup may be the best route

Thanks man. The 150 watts I found is 18v.

How do I incorporate this to my existing setup of 24 v.

Do I connect in series or parallel or both?

Hahahaha.
You obviously skipped ur elementary solar class..
Have been asking you about Vmp and Voc, you are yet to answer. Its the Voc that is key.since ur panels are 150w, the Voc shud be btw 18v and 23v.
Since ur system/inverter is a 12v system, would recommend dont exceed 3 panels in series.you could do 4 panels in series if ur Voc is below 24v, however this is slightly less efficient for a 12v setup.

Morning star corp regularly organizes online webinar for solar folks, try and register, so as to fill the knowledge gaps in ur solar journey

Thanks bro.

My current panels are actually 2x 250 watts.

I didn't do the set up myself, a professional installer did

Errrrm..wrong.
Go tru the manual again..or better yet, s3nd a picture where you saw the 24v, it shud be 60v or 100v, unless u bought an elcheapo mppt

My bad!

I'm seeing this for the first time.

Does that mean I can connect 4 panels in series ( they're 24v each) and get more harvest in amps?

2 x 150w is better, try and ensure the Voc is close to ur old panels..guess u intend to share on each side of ur roof, whats the max pv input of your CC?.
Maybe you do 3s2p

Yes, I'll share on each side of the roof.

The max PV input is 24 v

ahhha, i see the problem, the effing ROOF INCLINATION.
Part of the reason i hate this send down the rain use, i dont see why people like that roof .makes a building look big and ugly for no good reason, gimme a flat roof anytime..any day. in nigeria/the equator, the sweet spot for solar panel inclination is 5deg to 15 deg max. that your roof is over 60 deg already. so instantly, you are loosing 30 to 70% of your installed capacity due to wrong inclination alone!!.
i simply shake my head when i see installers/home owners placing panels on such steep roof angle.

your plan of separating the panels on both sides of the roof is a good palliative measure.
the best option is to relocate the panels to a flat surface, you should consider, erecting them by the fence..to form a car shade/etc

Thanks for the forensic analysis bro.

I'm planning to get at least another panel to augment what I have.

Between getting a 300 watts panel and getting 2 150 watts panel, which do u recommend.

I'm asking because of the amps I should expect in harvest

dont buy more panels yet till you send more pics, so we can see the shading you are talking about. 14amps is low, for an mppt cc. seems your cc is working like pwm. try wiring the 2 panels in series, cos if you do the maths..if you get abt 300w from your array...thats about 25amps x 5hrs , which will give you about 125ah daily, so its either the shading you complained about or your CC, or the cabling.
whats the size of cables used for panels to cc, cc to batt??

Now, the first two pictures are the east side of the building, it is 8 am and it is facing the rising sun. The last picture is the panel on the west side, you can see the sun obscured by the height of the roof.

Before the sun reaches the panel on the west side, it'll be Around 11 am.

Now, when it is beyond noon, the sun stop facing the panel on the east side but hits it by the side , at this same time, the panel on the west faces the sun directly. This is my temporary fix for now.

The third picture is my cc and u can see the instantaneous harvest at beyond 8 ah and it's 8 in the morning.

I am surprised that topmost PMW charger is doing almost the same as my MPPT despite similar set up.

How good are your diy skills?
Possible causes could be

1. 1 of the panels is bad
2. Wrong cable size and/or distance
3. Wrong/poor CC setup

Does your CC display instantenous harvest?.
If yes what is the max you have seen?...
If u jvnt taken note b4..turn of 2 or 3 fans+ tv on a sunny day...and observe your harvest readout..if its not between 300w to 550w....then you are a problem with panel /wiring /CC?

Which state are u

I won't mind u coming to take a look at this set up

I didn't do the set up myself, a professional helped me and it has been low harvest since last year.

The max instantaneous harvest I've noticed is 14 amps, each of the panels is 8 amps if I'm correct.

Fan? I don't even have, the only load on the set up is my 80 watts television and decoder and 2 watts bulbs which I seldom put on.

My guess is that sufficient sunlight doesn't reach the panels cos my building is flanked by two gigantic buildings on the west side, hence why I moved one of the panels to the Eastside.

I'll send some pictures tomorrow

Do u think it's advisable to buy more panels?

Imo, I tire ooooo.

The max I've ever gotten was 85 ah in a day.

I just don't know what's wrong with my set up.

Have u ever harvested above 200ah in a day?

Same explanation i gave previous poster.
In your case.i can see from your description, u have a 12v system 500w panel...is ur charge controller mppt or pwm?. Whats the config of the panels?..
Theoritically you shud harvest btw 1.5kwh to 2.5kwh daily from ur 500w array on sunny days.
1.5kwh @12v is abt 125ah, 2.5kwh @ 12v is 250ah, thus enough to charge to full a totally empty battery..

For you to be getting only 60ah on sunny days shows something is wrong with your setup...or even your battery, as capacity of a bad/failing battery is reduced.
Infact a 200ah batt may be derated to 80ah after 1yr or 2yrs of abuse/improper usage

Thanks for your explanation.

The CC is MPPT and it's about 40 AH rated

The panels are 24 volts connected in parallel.

I doubt if the battery is failing cuz it's relatively new and it's a tubular flooded battery.

In fact it charges full whenever I travel away for the weekend.

May I also add that I'm completely off-grid.

What in your opinion could be the problem.

I'm even thinking of getting two additional panels of 330 watts each
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by godspeed: 8:20pm On Dec 12, 2019
earthrealm:

the rule of thumb is 300 to 500% of installed solar array capacity, so btw 3.6kwh to 6kwh, on a sunny day, all things being equal
note that your batt bank can only take abt 5kwh,to charge to full if empty. so unless your bank is very depleted or you run some heavy loads [dont exceed 500w - 700w on a sunny day} you might not have room to accept the harvest from your panels

What?!

So what is supposed to be my harvest(in amps pls) for a 500 solar panel and 220 AH battery.

I have never gotten a full charge on a single day, in fact today, I harvested 60AH again.

Is this the best I can hope for?

This may sound elementary but how accurate is the measuring device? Have you benchmarked against another known good value?

The measuring device is the MPPT charge controller itself.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by godspeed: 8:28pm On Dec 11, 2019

Hello house, been a while.

Pls I have a set up similar to this.

2 250- watt solar panels
220ah luminous battery and
A 40 ah mppt charge controller.

When I changed my controller from pwm to mppt, I was getting harvest of around 85 ah per day, that was around July last year.

But since around October last year to today, the harvest has dropped sharply to about 35 ah per day.

What could be the issue?

So I washed the panels as advised and changed the position of the two panels putting one on the east side and the other on the west site in an inverted 'v' format, aligning with the top of the roof, now the harvest has improved to about 60AH.

My question is: is this the optimum I can get for this set up? There is a guy with a similar set up here who claims he gets a full charge everyday
