Timeline below:
Decided that Nigeria was not for me: May 2019
*1st IELTS: August 2019 (I got good scores but didn’t have Masters/extra certificate, so my CRS score was 432 I was hoping to get PNP, but I never got a nomination)
*CRS Score from year 2019 to 2021 = 432
*TCF French exam written: May 2021
*TCF French exam passed: June 2021
*New CRS Score in June 2021 = 500
*1st IELTS expired in August 2021, so I rewrote it in July 2021
*2nd IELTS passed July 2021 (with higher scores than last time)
*New CRS Score in 2021 = 506
*September 2022: Moved to the UK for Masters. Original plan was to do the Msc in Canada after becoming a PR but 1 year Master’s compared to 2 years in Canada is better for me.
*ITA received: 28th September 2022
*Medicals done in London: November 2022
*Submission & AOR: 25th November 2022
*Biometrics in London: 22nd December 2022
*PPR letter received: March 1st 2023
*Passport received by London VFS: March 7th
*Passport/COPR received: March 15th

Extra Notes: I am single and in my late 20s, so I never had issues with losing marks since 2019 when I started the journey.

It’s funny how whenever I tell people my CRS score they think that I was lucky to have had a high score but they forget that I was in the pool for 3 whole years before getting ITA. My EE profile expired 3 times.

This journey is not for the faint-hearted but by the Grace of God, with your hard work and resilience. You will also give your testimony too!!!

Aie Courage. For the foreseeable future, the French exams will still be worth it. To pander to Québec and French Canadians, the Canadian government is very receptive to French speakers and has a goal to increase the quota for French immigrants or it may even conduct French-only draws in the future from bill C-19, who knows?

For now just enjoy the French learning journey. Feel free to ask questions, as the journey can seem quite lonely sometimes.

Thanks a lot. I started in July last year when someone enlightened me on the impact of french on CRS score and gave me his echo A1 book. But the book was so boring to me until I stumbled upon a post by @Cooooooks about vite et bien and it was a game changer. I employed a private tutor that same month and she was like the perfect icing on the cake. I did a month subscription with ‘learn french with Alexa’ too while I was also listening to the Michel Thomas series at any spare time both at work and at home. Immediately I finished the vite et bien B1 book, I focused my attention on ‘the communication progessive du français ‘ by the same author of vite et bien and also started streamlining my practice towards the TCF exams bécause I discovered I had learnt enough vocabs. My tutor was a major booster and I couldn’t have pulled through without her efforts.

So in summary, I used

Books:
Vite et bien (A1 to B1)
Communication progressive du français
Essential French grammar
The Ultimate French (couldn’t finish reading this)
Vocabulary in dialogue series (Couldn’t finish this)

Private Tutor: For the entire learning period. Also, my Tutor was very determined to ensure I succeeded. We became very close. I got to know her through a website called Superprof which someone recommended for me because I needed a physical tutor and not an online one.

Also, I already knew I was writing TCF , so no need studying TEF materials but I participated in their speaking sessions in various platforms.

Overall, the best way to learn the language is to love the language first and then immerse yourself. I’d sometimes speak french to my colleagues and patients at work just for the fun of it LOL. The books and michel Thomas Series made me keep going back for more. Each time I felt like giving up, I’d come to this thread to read People’s testimonies and that would fire me on again. So this thread played a crucial role too. Since my colleagues knew I was studying french, they easily covered for me at work too. Not failing to acknowledge the help of God who is the orchestrator of all things.

To do this in 5 months no be beans, my bro. Most people need 5 months to go from B1 to B2.

My brother, my sister, I take your future beg you, go and apply to Quebec, whether to work or as a student (local tuition rate if the school is outside Montreal in certain STEM, Social work, Health fields).

There are agencies (paid by the government at no cost to you) looking for people to take up jobs in the smaller cities and rural towns of QC. Salaries are high (McDonald's is paying $20/hr and hiring 14-year-olds).

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I'll send your testimony to a couple of family friends who are dragging their feet, even after offering to pay for their french classes.

UPDATE!!! Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread. I started learning french from Ao when I posted this comment. Took the exam in my 5th month of learning but didn’t get the desired B2 in the CO. Took the exam again in the 7th month and God did his thing! Special thanks to @Cooooooks for recommending vite et bien, the book actually made me love french. I would be writing a detailed breakdown of my study path later.

start with the michel thomas french séries or primsleur series. They are available free online. Then get vite et bien A1 to A2 book. A good tutor would also fast track your learning but 80% of the work would be done by you.

The meaning is highly contextual and, therefore, not easy to explain. I will give you 10 instances. It's going to be another epistle, sorry.

1) At a glance:
Voila => there is
Voici => here is

Example:
Voila la femme de mon fere (there is my brother's wife)

2) However, "voila" can also mean "here is". This means it can replace "voici" in a sentence and this is usually the case except when the difference needs to be made explicit.

Example:
Voila ma nouvelle voiture (here/there is my new car)

3) "Voila" is also an exclamation used to express agreement. For example, when you say something that indicates you've understood what I am explaining or something that shows you agree with my argument, I could say "voila !". In this case, it means "that's what I'm saying!" or "that's right!".

4) In some contexts, "voila/voici" could also mean "there/here you are", "there/here I am", etc.

Example:
Me voici => here I am.

5) They can also be used to introduce a reason or an explanation. In this case, it could be translated as "thus" or "that is".

Example:
J'ai perdu mom chat, voila pourquoi je suis triste (I lost my cat, that is why I'm sad)

6) They are used as fillers. In this case, we don't translate them (even though it means "that's it" ).

Example:
Je vais juste tout oublier, voila. (I'm just going to forget everything).

7) "Voila" can be used to say how long something has been happening.

Example:
Voila 3 jours que je suis à Paris ! (I've been in Paris for 3 days!)

8 ) "Voila" can mean "see" or "take a look" or "over there"

Example:
Voila un elephant ! (See an elephant!)

9) It is used to indicate the simple or unwanted end of an activity.

Example:
Arretez le bruit, vous allez réveiller le bébé... et voila ! (Stop the noise, you'll wake up the baby... now see!) [They eventually woke up the baby]


10) I can't remember any other instance but you can hardly go wrong with "voila". Lol
